Hey man, I really need your help regarding getting a fish tank. I am trying to get a betta but I have no space for a 5 gallon what do I do? Is it ok to use a smaller tank for a betta?

I think I know the story behind the arapaimas (yes, there's two)
Guy had a 10,000 gallon above ground pond (tank, I guess) that sprung a leak, this was the quarantine tank. He built them a 25,000 gallon, I believe they were only in there for like a month. How nothing jumped out is beyond me.

my husband used to do maintenance at a high school and found a betta in an awful tank in one of the classrooms. He even asked the teacher if he could rehome it (aka to meeeee) for her, and she was very firm that her whole class just loved it and everything was fiiiiiiine... So we started sneaking in supplies for the tank. After a couple months, the little guy had a heater and two anubias. I still think about that fish :(

It never ceases to amaze me how many TEACHERS can't seem to be bothered to do even the most basic research to make sure they're teaching good animal husbandry, regardless of what species they're keeping in their classroom. Some of the worst ones I've dealt with are SCIENCE teachers, which have even less excuse for such laziness and ignorance than other teachers.

Aww man I feel you… I lost my male betta two days ago as well💔RIP, Pyro… He got dropsy and I failed to save him… :(( Stay strong it’s a rough situation 🤝 If you like to have another give yourself some time before buying… The grieving process may take someone a while so don’t rush yourself ✨🫧 I got over it after a day and a half and bought myself a female betta named Aurora :’) Sorry for your loss and stay strong bc your are not alone!

I am taking Fiona my female with me to college, so now that I have that empty tank I will take that one to school with me and leave Fiona’s tank at home. Through this sad passing I guess it was a blessing as well because I am low on money and didn’t know what I was going to do.
7:37 that's a featherfin squeaker catfish (Synodontis eupterus). Easily one of best catfish to keep with semi aggressive cichlids
yep, I have one for past 4 years. Featherfin catfish. Got mine for $1.00 at walmart when they were getting rid of their live fish.
mine gets fresh veg every other day. I feed kale, broccoli, spinach and peas + fish food , algae tablets and shrimp wafers. he will 'charge' at SDF to get food ( they retreat) but never attacked them nor eaten their slime coat that I have seen.
very personable fish and will come over to side of tank when I speak to him.
I always keep him and the 4 silver dollars I have in low light as they prefer indirect lighting.
I favorite thing about summer is floating in a 700 gallon watertank day dreaming about the day I get to make a giant koi pond for my girl Peppermint and her siblings
I love arapaima but I don't have a 100,000 gallon tank to hold them yet. I know that they say you need at least an 8000 gallon but the ohio fish rescue has 2 in a 58000 gallon pond and I alway wanted to do that same tank just bigger and put it in like a park so people can see how big these species get.
We're renovating an old train carrige and turning it into my house, i'm gonna have a heavily planted 40 gallon with 1 angelfish, a school of cardinal tetras, maybe some red platys, and a cory gang (white ones so you can see them against the fluval stratum) and maybe some khuli loaches 🐠

@@Self_Cancelled When hubby and I were looking to buy a house years ago, that was actually one of the things I put on the list of considerations - whether the house's electric could handle my aquarium demands, and I only had 2 tanks then. Granted, they were 55g and 125g. Hubby teased me about buying a house for my fish. LOL

* about a year ago I asked about loaches w my guppies, you suggested kuhlis, did research to learn more about their personalities, food preferences, water requirements AND finally have my first group of 5!! Yay!

Chris, I wanted to give you a quick thanks. I'm a beginner with a ten gallon guppy tank. I always saw live plants as daunting and I just had a lot of fake ones instead. You are one of the people to help convince me to try live. I switched over recently and my tank has spiderwood, anubias nana, java fern, anacharis, water wisteria, and Pearl weed. I love it way more, it looks so much better. It's definitely not a 5/5 but if you saw my old one im sure I'd get a 2/5 at best. Maybe now I could get a 3.5-4??! Anyways, thanks!
My favorite summer activity? Not being outside XD I react to heat and bugs so badly, so it's better if I just do stuff inside. All the other seasons though? You best believe I'm outside doing all the things!

7:41 I had a similar looking catfish, I think mine was as a Cuckoo Squeaker Catfish, but he had been passed down from my uncles and aunts. I think he was 17-20 years old when they died. He had been in the family all his life.

My favorite summer activity is fishing with my son. It's our weekend ritual. We just catch and release.

@laurenemmett705 Happy to help the environment. It's rich pickings on military bases during the summer. You can find lawn mowers, furniture, tank supplies(the main reason I like dumpster diving), kitchenware, tools, tvs, toys, and even entire houses worth of stuff on the side walk.
QOTW: I grew up going to the lakes near me, so anything involving a boat or swimming is my favorite summer activity. That, and watching baseball, aka the only sport I really care about lol.
Those reddish orange plecos are most likely super red bristle nose plecos. I watched the FTR in the morning then later in the day I went to the local fish store to buy more Betta food and they had one of the plecos left and the type was super red bristle nose plecos. It looked the same as the ones in this episode of FTR, the main downside is they were forty U.S. dollars
Every Sunday night I run to the store to grab a fillet of fish. Monday morning I cook it and eat it over a plate of rice while I watch FTR next to my planted tanks. I am fishes best friend and their common enemy.
Favorite summer activity: hibernating through the hellish heat until autumn

My tanks fully set up and after letting the ember tetras settle, and i just added a baby betta to the tank and everyone seems to be doing good so far!

Also some fishtank updates: I think I have sexed my 2 new kuhlis. I believe Ramen is female and Spaghetti is male. In addition, Ramen has decided to be a little less shy and has been showing herself more, while Spaghetti rockets around the tank and keeps going after the same plant as always to try and dig it up lol

Hey Chris. Maybe you can do a video on this? How do I know when a tank will be overstocked? I've seen recommend minimums for individual species or groups but not for cohabbed species. I'm setting up 25 gallons for a Betta but I also want 5 Loaches, 5 Julii Corys, and some cherry shrimp. This'll be my first ever set up.

I have 2 fluorescent hoods. They were purchased in 2004 and 2007. Yeah, don't use the lights. Don't use the incandescent lights on another hood that was bought in 2004. Retrofit with programmable LED lights.
I don't think that light fixture on the 'like new' tank has a fan. It's more likely it just has holes in the fixture for heat exhaustion without a fan. It was the high power lights that had fans. I still have a couple of both types (high tech/low tech) of old light fixtures, though none are currently hooked up.

I... Didn't know ppl kept arapaimas as pets? Here in my country (Colombia), in the Amazon region they dont grow much anymore because of how much they're eaten. We call them Pirarucú (pee-rah-roo-coo)

Oh god, there's two airpaimas in that tank. The one in the background isn't as old as the one in the foreground. Look at the gill line by the head, the curve is different. It's not a photoshop copy and it's not a reflection. It's a second fish.

In Oddessy aquarium in Arizona they have huge gators sand sharks and even the one and only arapiama it's my fav fish
For me to stay cool. I like to drink up all the water out of my fridge so can stay hydrated. Or just keep the air all day. 🥶🏝
i managed to catch 12 sticklebacks of various sizes from a local pond and add them to my 15g. they are doing well and eating fluval bug bites but i had to remove a fish louse from one of their gills. i hope to add a signal crayfish as the centerpiece and the sticklebacks as the dithers

Speaking of overstocking. Is more than 10 nano fish too many for a 22 gallon tank? I'm asking because a PetSmart clerk humiliated me today by refusing to sell me fish based on my numbers: 22 gallon long aquarium, 12 neon tetras, 3 dwarf suckermouth plecos (wanted to add 5 plecos because they do better in schools). I wonder if the PetSmart employees think their bettas feel great in tiny cups. Oh, the hypocrisy!
