I am a '73 graduate of WHS, and remember the newer section. Sad the older section is gone cause I remember that well...........the wooden floors and the windows that reached up to the ceiling. Remember the fire that someone set in the admin office to cover up a burglary. I still have my '73 annual. Nice that you included a picture of the gals behind the ticket office window.
I graduated from whs In 91. I too, had many Saturday schools but ours were in the room where we did thr drivers ed. So many memories. Thank you for sharing.
Omg you are giving me life... I went to school there for 2 yrs also... I can't remember my middle school... but it was the best school I ever went too. I think Chris spielman was a senior when I was a freshman.Thank you for showing it. I remember detention too....lol
My first year of high school was in the old school. I was there long enough to figure my way around good, then we all got shipped to the new school where nobody knew their way around. Great video dude
That was an awesome tour 🤗, I hated PE, but back in the 50's and 60's there wasn't much need because kids in my days were always on the go, we had bicycles, roller skates snd we used them unlike today!! Great job Nate!!
Thanks :) It was really neat being in there again! I couldn't place most of it, but I definitely knew the drivers ed room, the library, the ticket booth area, and that hall you saw through the doors at the beginning, right after I showed the pool entrance. I distinctly remember standing on the steps leaning on those aluminum handrails, wating for the final bell to ring so I could get the heck out of there lol
To be fair, kids now are told from day one that it isn't safe for them to do all those active outdoor things that you guys did in the 50s and 60s. Not to mention how police treat unsupervised kids (especially boys) outside.
I too hated Phys Ed. I just wasn't good at it or maybe I have ADHD and didn't pay enough attention to the instructions. Maybe they took it for granted everyone knew how to do these things. I got to attend my high school again as an adult learner as they turned it into an Adult Ed Center. 😊
Hi Nate! I used to live across the street from this school and I delivered their newspaper every day! This was about 10 years ago. We lived in downtown Massillon for about 5 years and then we moved away. You actually filmed our old house in your video! My uncle worked for the fire department down the street too. Anyway we love watching UrbEx videos on YT, so you got a new subscriber.
Man you were lucky to only have 1 to 3 hours for saturday detentions. I went to Hoover and ours were 4 hours and nothing in between. I had a couple of those and they were brutal.
My old school recently got torn down, And it’s still hard to think about sometimes, I loved that school because it was small and had good teachers. It was the oldest school around at the time. I wish I could have seen the inside one last time in the year it sat abandoned, But it’s long gone now. I watched them rip it down day by day. I remember watching my grade 3 And 4 classrooms tear and crumble to the ground. It’s awesome you were able to see the inside of your own old school.
My dad Howard Cooper was a long time history and government teacher at W.H.S. You just happened to go into his classroom for a few moments when you were on the second floor. I used to meet him there at the end of the day and we would ride home together. Thanks for the fond memories!
My old HS is Valley Forge in Parma Hts. I graduated there in '69 and the school was only 5 yrs old.... now it's fate is unknown. My grad class was 1,100, lately the grad classes are around 300. The talk is they want to consolidate into the equally sparsely populated Parma High. When I attended VF, population of 10th, 11th, 12th grades totaled almost 3,500 kids - currently they've added 8th & 9th grade in, and entire school pop is roughly 1,500. My old elementary was closed and sat empty for some years, and is now a private charter school. My old jr high is now an elementary school, with about 75% of it closed off. The baby boom caused all that school construction in the 60s, and now that us boomers are old farts, they've converted a lot of elementary schools in the Parma, Berea, and other districts into retirement homes. Odd prospect... you could end up where you started out.
I wish my daughter could have gone to my old high school but it was torn down in 2012. It was built in the 1920s and added on to in the 1950s. Now that I'm older I appreciate the architecture of what the building was. Being in school I just thought it was really old.
Great to see this. Not sure if they still do it, but at least in the '90s they still held swimming classes for the elementary schools as well as the gifted programs. I also remember signing up for YMCA soccer programs there into the 00's.
Graduated from WHS in 1970. No longer live in Massillon. Sometime in the mid-90's I drove my daughters down 1st street to show them where I went to high school. There was nothing there except this section which we always considered the "new part".
So cool! Glad you were able to get inside to film!😀 The pool is awesome!! This school is in great condition! It's too bad it can't be used for a shelter. Homelss shelter, or womens shelter, or a storm shelter for emergencies or home evacuations.
Really cool you got to do this. My middle school is abandoned and has been for close to 15yrs now and it's only 2 blocks from my house and I can't get in, it's such a tease lol
Hi Nate, Im 22 from London, UK. Ive just been listening to a lot of Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon recently yearning for a time and a place that never existed for me- for some reason this video made me nostalgic for that time and place ! What were you listening to back in '91/'92?
oh yeah man and the in car teacher had a brake pedal on her side too, so she would just stomp on that thing out of nowhere if she thought you were driving too fast or something lol
Our lockers were in the old part of the building, mine was right by the gym entrance, and yours was right across the hall, by the hallway that went down to where the keyboarding classes were.
I totally remember that now :) On the very last day at this school as we were leaving you were cleaning out your locker and you gave me a Warrant Cherry Pie cassette!
Wow!!! My parents went here...I went for couple of weeks but they made me go to Perry High. (Being I was the first real Crip ever in Massillon) Police did not want me there around other Black's
no unfortunately I did not. I have tried several times over the years to get permission to film inside, but there have always been tons of no trespassing signs, and when they began to tear it down I was already knee deep in filming Halloween stores.
Hi Nate! I would just like to inform you that, the old Massillon Washington High School is not abandoned. They formed and still currently have a swim team there.
My high school, Woodbridge Senior High School, (graduated in 1996) celebrated it's 50th birthday in 2014, but the building was only 40 yeas old. How is that? That is because they moved into the newly built building in 1974. The old building became the middle school. In 2010, the high school went under a major renovation closing the open classrooms and took out the auto body shop because the school is focused on the Center of the Arts.
Hardtobeabrownsfananymore64 - 0-16!!! Nope, no pool at the new whs thank god. The new school is huge, but I didn’t particularly like school lol, so I skipped allot and just skimmed by. Do you go to Massillon?
That Nate Guy On TH-cam no. I live about an hour away and I was doing some research on the old WHS and discovered your video. I was born in Canton and lived in Massillon in my youth so I wanted to find out if this building was still standing. I only remember it from visiting the YMCA across the street.
Hey Nate, awesome video! One question though, since I'm not from USA, it's not common to me... but, mostly of these abandoned places that you show, just like this high school, have all the stuff still in there, for example the furniture, the weights from the weight room you filmed... why the people don't get all the things before leaving the place? is this common, to leave a lot of thing behind? Here in Brazil, no way this would happen haha, people would remove even the light bulbs before left! Keep up the great content! Loving it
amazingly it is very common here. There are always so many things left behind that could have been salvaged and either donated or sold, it's just crazy. More often than not, people just pick up and go, leaving tons of stuff behind, that ends up getting either destroyed by vandals, or just rotting away and being reclaimed by nature.
iera000 If that were the case with other places, I’m pretty sure abandoned Kmarts would still have shelves, carts, registers, and other things all to be rotten away by nature. I’m assuming that’s why my school district takes EVERYTHING, moves it to the new school, and tears the old one down. That’s why the only middle school was built in 2004, and the elementary in 2012
I have a school like that. Nate parry was a elementary school in the Liverpool new York school district. It was turned in to a office for the district but I think there playground was left behind for the in the area who live near the school. It was odd to go in there one time because I had to pick up some paper work from the office and the chairs were kid size and the rooms look like class rooms. The lunch room was there the gym is still used by school programs so odd to see adults in a school were once kids went to school there. Now yes they have taken out all the kids stuff but the chairs are still there. I think the lockers were there to.
My ex-wife graduated from there in 1988. I graduated from the old Fairless HS south of Massillon, and just recently found out that it has been flattened out of existence upon the opening of their bigger/newer version. This follows on from my old elementary in Navarre also being completely erased around the late 2000's, a building that stood for I believe over 100yrs. The memories.
I can guess your age by you mentioning 91 to 92 school year. That's when I graduated. I went to 3 high schools. Norwalk High, Norwalk CA, Jordan High North Long Beach CA and Kingman High in Kingman AZ. The schools in So Cal will NEVER be abandoned. Long Beach public schools are jammed pack. Jordan was at 3300±. They are bull dozing the school and rebuilding it! Kingman High was refurbished! Only thing standing was the beams! They have also refurbished Norwalk high. They can't leave a school abandoned. I don't know the stats on Excelsior high in Norwalk. But I do know know they outright bulldozed Hoxie Ave Elementary school. It should have been left open. IMO.
no you're right lol the pool is actually the one thing they do actually use on a regular basis, as well as the body shop. The rest is pretty much just like an abandoned building. I wanted to go in the pool area bu the doors were locked
Instead of letting it sit vacant why don't they turn it into affordable housing or maybe a apartment complex or something, typical massillon, that's why i live in florida (1982 whs graduate).
That Nate Guy On TH-cam last time I seen it was the tour of the new building it was bout half way, I haven't seen it recently I'll be that way tomorrow gotta check lol
That's a tough question lol, seeing it in this state made it difficult to remember actually. I would love to go back and walk the halls again and just see if I could get some better placement. Most of what I did remember was in the area that was demolished.
I'm surprised there's so much stuff still left over in the classrooms after all these years and too bad they tore down the old historical part of the school sounds like it was just a tax write-off.
Wow, watching again in 2023, sorry for the swinging camera movements, this is before I learned to use stabilization and to control the shots better.
My high school 120 years old
My school is called Waterford High school it’s was built 1794
It’s really old Ohio school
Hey Nate, how about our Tigers beating Hoban to win the State this year?! Go Tigers!
I am a '73 graduate of WHS, and remember the newer section. Sad the older section is gone cause I remember that well...........the wooden floors and the windows that reached up to the ceiling. Oh man. My niece is currently a senior at my former high school and they haven't changed it at all since I graduated in 2006.
My first year of high school was in the old school. I was there long enough to figure my way around good, then we all got shipped to the new school where nobody knew their way around. Great video dude

oh and of course the Saturday detention room lol!

Hey great video I subbed!!! And I felt really really sad for you I'm sorry your old school looks this way..
Jacob I hate to see that too. I’ll be a 2019 graduate of the new school. I am happy we have the same Alma Mater lyrics, our mascot and colors
My dad Howard Cooper was a long time history and government teacher at W.H.S. You just happened to go into his classroom for a few moments when you were on the second floor. I used to meet him there at the end of the day and we would ride home together. Thanks for the fond memories!
I had your dad for government class.

lol I’m watching this now and I’m going to be a senior in HS. Makes me realize how much high school really doesn’t matter. 😂😂

Couldn’t they use this as an elementary school instead of building a new one?
It went to waste
It’s really sad
Yea it went to waste
Awesome stuff Nate!
So cool! Glad you were able to get inside to film!😀 The pool is awesome!!
This school is in great condition! It's too bad it can't be used for a shelter. Homelss shelter, or womens shelter, or a storm shelter for emergencies or home evacuations.
I love ur videos and ty for the tour❤
Really cool you got to do this. My middle school is abandoned and has been for close to 15yrs now and it's only 2 blocks from my house and I can't get in, it's such a tease lol
lol that sucks :) :)
Dude, that is so cool! I would love to hang out with you and Wallie sometime and explore with yall. Awesome video! 🖒🖒
Nate, another great video, I went to the old Mckinley HS on Market Ave.....
awesome! I actually had some of my nursing clinicals there, and hope to film the old parts of the school one day soon!
My high school looks like this one inside but they took the swimming pool out before I came to my school
Hi Nate, Im 22 from London, UK. Ive just been listening to a lot of Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon recently yearning for a time and a place that never existed for me- for some reason this video made me nostalgic for that time and place ! What were you listening to back in '91/'92?
So eerie and cool at the same time!
I remember when Shawn Moore stopped a man with a gun who was headed to Mr. Hennon's office.
Interesting video. Thanks.
Hey Nate I went to school there I think I may know you ,there is a place over here by me that is empty, hit me back from trisha
I wish my daughter could have gone to my old high school but it was torn down in 2012. It was built in the 1920s and added onto in the 1950s.
Its in pretty good shape considering. Good explore!
You should go back and film more that’s an amazing location filled with memories
Wow I didnt know they used to do drivers ed
oh yeah man and the in car teacher had a brake pedal on her side too, so she would just stomp on that thing out of nowhere if she thought you were driving too fast or something lol
That Nate Guy On TH-cam wow
Only 30 secs in, looks awesome
I miss going to swimming class in elementary school, the tiger painted shark use to scare me as a kid.
My parents set records in this school...
I was trying to tell my story of Lehman Junior High I went there.
Molly Olsen any rivalry or anything with our Massillon Tigers
Molly Olsen or was it you guys job to sit back and cheer on McKinley
Did you get a video of the hospital they are tearing down in Massillon perry ?
no unfortunately I did not. I have tried several times over the years to get permission to film inside, but there have always been tons of no trespassing signs, and when they began to tear it down I was already knee deep in filming Halloween stores.

Stark county is just dead damn

I know the old LCHS of Lumpkin County high school is now the middle school and has been since 2001
That's a huge pool!
Do you know if Westland H.S. in Columbus Ohio is open or abandoned?
When you went to the new WHS was swimming mandatory? Also, what was your experience like at the new WHS?
Hardtobeabrownsfananymore64 - 0-16!!! Nope, no pool at the new whs thank god. The new school is huge, but I didn’t particularly like school lol, so I skipped allot and just skimmed by. Do you go to Massillon?

What year did you graduate because my mom might have gone to school with you!!
Too bad the new high school doesn’t have a pool. I’d love to get in on an abandoned episode with ya Nate
I promise one day when I get some time I can plan :)
Sad how time goes so fast and how things change over time
My ex-wife graduated from there in 1988. Is there any reason why the school closed down?
It looked like the pool had water in it. Am I wrong? I hate to see abandoned schools. We have many here in Chicago.
no you're right lol the pool is actually the one thing they do actually use on a regular basis, as well as the body shop. The rest is pretty much just like an abandoned building. I wanted to go in the pool area bu the doors were locked
Tammy Goulet Schrader im a sophmore at massillon and im pretty positive they use the pool there for the swim team
yay i swim there its always locked
The sad part of my town is when a school closes, it gets torn completely down to the ground. Take PG elementary for example
dont feel bad bro i failed pe to lol
Why was the school closed
Instead of letting it sit vacant why don't they turn it into affordable housing or maybe a apartment complex or something, typical massillon, that's why i live in florida (1982 whs graduate).
I like going through old school buildings btw you missed the tour of the new Canton South High School, it was nothing special though lol
is the old one completely down yet? I drove by this past weekend and it was about half way down
That Nate Guy On TH-cam last time I seen it was the tour of the new building it was bout half way, I haven't seen it recently I'll be that way tomorrow gotta check lol
It's amazing
Which classroom was yours

i live in Massillon

Go Bulldogs!!!!
TIG-ERS🐯💕🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

Does everyone move out of Ohio or what?
I think you went to school with my ex.

It's

It is abandoned
