We have an updated video out that’s far easier when combined with a new bundle available for purchase at tesbros.com. The bundle includes everything you need to remove and install, including new emblems (black or chrome options) and 3D printed brackets. Totally get that. If you’re still interested in the DIY route, we have a new product that includes everything you need to do this including new emblems so you don’t have to reuse your old ones. It’s got the 3D printed brackets and all. The only tool we don’t give is a drill lol. Here’s the video about it: th-cam.com/video/El91QKxiYgw/w-d-xo.html and here’s the bundle: tesbros.com/products/emblem-kit
Wouldn’t it be a lot easier to place painters tape where the point of the Tesla t is to align? Seems like you did a lot of extra work but it still works.
The whole bonnet was wrapped in PPF so they removed the badge before the PPF went on. Therefore you can’t just put tape where the previous badge was, hence the template
Very nice Video on emblem removal. I am getting ready to install PPF myself starting with the bumper. I will need a little more youtube training for any kind of tips to increase my chances of success.
@@tesbros nice! I’ll be taking the emblems off my Model Y to apply PPF and thinking about creating my own template for the Y. But the aggressive curve on the back trunk can be challenging for a 3D print that doesn’t take forever to print. Might do a 1mm print that is measured to curve with the trunk lid.
Great video, thanks! Did you buy the emblem template in shapeways? Is there an STL file for folks who can print their own? Tried looking and haven’t spotted one just yet.
How far from the front of the hood is the bottom of the logo? I was told 1 3/4” but wanted to make sure. My front emblem was removed so I need to put a new one on but want to have it match OEM
that makes sense ... (then, the next think that popped into my mind is: using the drill like a bench grinder, and applying the emblem delicately to the eraser disc, one side at a time ... just thinking out loud :)
I'm considering investing in a tesla but I live in Texas where your car WILL be vandalized out here for having the logo. I'm a born and raised Texan who doesn't think what you drive should make you want to key a persons car. So I have been wondering if you could remove the logo without damaging the car. Thanks!
Sorry to hear that 😭. But yes, this video will show you how to remove the logo without damaging your car. You can also remove the T in the rear with this same method.
how about ordering a replacement emblem? i've heard of some people doing that if they plan to do a wrap. Reason I say that, I want to plastidip the emblem and wondering if would be easier to do it on the replacement and just apply it instead of the original.
You can order a new one or use the original. It's really up to how much work you want to do to remove it safely and then clean it. Also, after you put it back over the wrap, you can plasti dip it while on the car. OR you can simply order a new one already the color you want and apply that one. Lots of options!
Can you tell me how to get A LOT of gunk off the hood? My emblem was stolen and there is a lot of glue / dark goo or gunk that remains on the hood. I appreciate any help
So sorry to hear that! Goo gone, microfiber, and elbow grease might get it. I would suggest the 3M eraser used in the video around 5 min mark - 3M Eraser (drill attachment) www.amazon.com/Stripe-Wheel-07498-Diameter-Mandrel/dp/B00063VT0G/ref=sr_1_3 - We use the 3M eraser at around 6 min mark in this video as well and you can see there's a lot more gunk to get off here - th-cam.com/video/12LCPq9Yx80/w-d-xo.html - just takes patience
Using a drill and disc to get the residue off is a terrible idea. Just roll the bulk of it off with a finger and then polish. I wouldn't recommend pushing a razor blade TOWARDS your fingers either!!

I read “easy” removal and was like, “cool, let’s check it out”.. then saw 3d printed parts and like 15 tools 😅. I’ll totally let the pros do this.

hairdryer and dental floss are a far more DIY-friendly alternative to heatgun and fishing line
Absolutely! It helps if the dental floss is wax free too
I wish I had seen this comment earlier. I used a heatgun and cooked my PPF. Dental floss worked great though.
Great video was able to remove my badges cleanly in about 15min with the instructions and links. Thanks!
Thanks man! I keep debating to remove mine or not, I think I will now lol
Do ittttt
@@tesbros haha I just did the front last night! I’ll be doing the back today. Looks so much better honestly lol

Good luck!
Do you place on top of the PPF?
Thanks for the video! I have found the 3D print file for the hood but was wondering how you tackle aligning the one on the back.
I have a custom one made for the back as well but don’t have it readily available for download yet. I’ll put that on my to do list for the future!

I'd say it's more 1 7/8" to be exact
thx for the vid ... is there any reason why you don't use the 3m eraser to remove the old foam off of the back of the emblem to speed up the process?
The emblem is a little more delicate and you can’t hold it while using the drill anyway so it’s a bit harder to do it that way
that makes sense ... (then, the next think that popped into my mind is: using the drill like a bench grinder, and applying the emblem delicately to the eraser disc, one side at a time ... just thinking out loud :)
How to remove it: with this tool that you definitely don’t have in your tool kit 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

that fishing line looks like an assassin
thing lol
😅
I need the black thing you used to add the emblem, can I buy it. I purchased a model y that was de-badged because of PPF being added
We are actually in the process of bringing it to market. Working on finalizing 3D print file. Will keep you updated!
What if the badge is already installed on top of ppf will the heat gun shrink or damage the underlying ppf when heating for removal?
As long as you keep your heat gun moving, you can remove same way and can be installed the same way.
@@tesbros thanks getting ready remove and replace mine on my black model 3 that’s already been ppf wrapped but didn’t want to mess it up lol

Where is the link for all the pieces in the video, such as the alignment template?
Check out our blog for more links (blog.tesbros.com/how-to-remove-and-reinstall-your-tesla-emblems/) but there’s some in the description too
Didn't see the link for the vinyl logo template. Will that be put up on the blog post?
It's now on the blog post! Thanks for your patience.

Couldn’t find the logo file for cricut (Svg)
You ignoring that big paint chip on the edge of that hood.
Well, it was a freak accident. Dropped one of our lights on the hood lol. But we are planning on getting a new bumper soon.
Can you use the template on the trunk as well?
Yes! the Model 3 is the same size for the front and rear
When I removed mine in 2018, they were metal then because I sandblasted them. are they plastic now? ty
Yes, they are plastic
@@tesbros that reeks. good thing i didnt do the same with my current Tesla. I just bought the plastic covers for the emblems this time.
Where can I purchase the original logos if my oem gets damaged?
If you want oem, try Tesla parts first - epc.tesla.com/. If not, probably ebay

so this tutorial is on how to remove the Logo when you've already removed the Logo in the morning
No, I put the logo back on in the morning. I had it removed for a while!
thanks for the great video. can i have STL as well? i just email you guys, thanks
Bro all you need is floss and masking tape lol
Damn $30 for a 3D print file just to reapply my badge… absolute rip off. I guess I’ll have to do it the old fashioned way.
