    • @someguy5035
      @someguy5035 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is one of the easiest bikes to do the oil change. It takes a screw on style filter. Everything is easy to get to. It does take a lot of oil though, so that part isn't so great.

    I’ve got a 2021 atas. I’m using the back country 35/25 offset version, would recommend not getting the offset, get the 35/35. I also have the nomax tank bag but am not thrilled, it’s very good but sits back too far on the tank which is a pain when standing and gets full quickly. The 25l scout is very good but a little too small. Bought a knockoff 60L.
    I’ve also outfitted with Altrider crashbars, skid plate, radiator guards, headlight guard and side stand footprint. Skid plate is very tight to engine, had to grind off high points/ rub points. I’ve got the Givi 42 L top case, very good so far and good size.
    Bark busters 2 pt mount bars great!
    Air dam was a big improvement.
    Factory Center stand.
    Yet to add shorty levers.
    Factory wind skirts.
    Allie express gps mount(above display).
    Double take adv mirrors.

    Thank you for dedicating a video to your build! I purchased the same bike a few months before you and was so excited when you announced replacing your GS with the AT because I knew you’d research/report on great aftermarket products.
    I used your links for the Cool Cover and highway pegs from the review video. Already went with the Outback crash bar max which was out of stock until July and went full Tusk rack/luggage/tank bag. I like the 6 liter bag for extra storage on the crash bars.
    Look forward to more AT content!

    I just did a 10 day camping trip packed a tent, sleeping bag and sleeping mat with pillow. 4 pairs of socks, duds, tee shirts and shower jell and toothpaste and toothbrush. Never rode off-road but my Triumph trophy is a perfect pack mule for camping. I see guys with everything strapped all over the damn bike and doing the same trips as me 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ every 4 days I stop,at the laundry mart throw it all in one machine 2 hours later back on the bike. But 10 years in the British infantry taught me you have to carry all the shit you want, so tend to get rid of the crap you don’t really need asap.

    Mosko makes some nice gear but I prefer SW-Motech. Their pro series tank bags are the best because they mount on a tank ring and don't contact the tank at all. No strap crap to deal with also. I also love the RackPack series Top bags. The strapping system is the best in the world. I have the new 2023 Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer and mine came with the Triumph aluminum hard cases. Great video Ian!

    (Sadly) had to test out the outback kit on my bike about 3 weeks ago when an idiot decided to reverse into my bike whilst it was parked in a parking spot.
    On their recommendation I got the protection combo max (which is without the upper bars), as I have a standard AT. The kit did an awesome job protecting the fairings. I did scuf/dent the footpeg, and some slight scuffs on some other things (ex. exhaust protectors, rear foot peg + holder) but that has nothing to do with the OM protection set, which together with a set of barkbusters (also VPS) took the grunt of the impact.
    Highly recommended! As a note to others, the OEM center stand is fully compatible with the Outback skid plate.
    I also can recommend the QS, even in the low RPMs it works quite well.

    • @Paulobrmsilva
      @Paulobrmsilva 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hope it went well in the end. Does the skid plate also work for protection on that kind of crash or its more related with rocks jumping from the front?

    • @tHaH4x0r
      @tHaH4x0r 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Paulobrmsilva In my case no, it didn't do anything because it didn't need to. Parking places are nice and flat, so the bike is fully supported by the lower crash bars, hand guards, and in my case the right side footpeg + passenger footpeg.
      As stated the kit I have consists of the skid plate, engine guards and lower crash bars. When lying on the ground, both the engine guards and skid plate don't touch the ground. I suppose they might help if you fall over on terrain with protrusions such as rocks. I can at least confirm that the upper crash guards don't seem to be necessary for the standard AT model. Also, I am pretty sure the skid plate will hold up to any hit on rocks, that thing is build like a brick.
      It might be helpful to look up the video of outback mototek online, they show a full crash test in their video.

    • @Paulobrmsilva
      @Paulobrmsilva 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tHaH4x0r Thanks for your info. I'm trying to figure out if it worth to spend the extra 250 euros and include the skid plate also. I saw their video but still with doubts if its needed in case of lateral fall or not.

    • @tHaH4x0r
      @tHaH4x0r 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Paulobrmsilva If you only do road riding, or just the occasional dirt road, then I would say the stock skid plate is perfectly fine, no need to get the OM one. Plus you will save some weight, as the OM one is pretty heavy. I dont think it really offers any extra protection in a lateral fall on flat terrain at all.
      I think if you do slightly more 'serious' offroad than a dirt road, or you do off-road riding semi-often, its worth the extra money. If you kick up a sharp/big rock, or worse hit a big log or rock with the plate, it can definitely dent the stock plate, and crack the oil pan. That's a whole lot more expensive than 250 euro, and if it happens far away from regular roads you are in quite a pickle to get your bike out of there.

I had an Africa twin 2020 Adventure DCT that I was hit on and I am debating what to replace it with. I am 5'6" 155lbs and I was a bit intimidated by the size of the AT. Since that, I have seen your video on the Yamaha Tenere 700 and Potentially the New 750ish AT that Honda is rumored to announce in a few weeks. One more item of importance is that I live in Florida and have no intention of riding here as it is just too dangerous. Curious about your thoughts.

    First comment. The only downside with Africa twin for me, is still its heavy weight and some what cumbersome size, compared with CRF300 Rally to cope with some really tight single track. If only Honda consider a 650-700 cc Transalps adv, that definitely would become one of the most popular and well received mid size unicorn bike. (T7 is good but lack some electrical , tuareg 660 and desert X are way expensive, KTM 690 and husquana 701 has reliability issue )

    We are moving from a truck camper to Moto. Looking to do some trips further afield (Asia, Africa, Europe) and some more remote locations. Like many, I have kind of boiled choices down to the new Tiger 1200, BMW GSA or, maybe, an older Africa Twin. I think you recommended the 2016 to 2019 AT. My gut feeling is that I will be on road most of the time and that the Tiger is the best combo of off and on road performance that would suit our percentage of time spent on asphalt / dirt. But, I am worried about reliability and what happens if something goes wrong. I feel the Honda might win out there for service and parts. Just wondered if you had any input for those looking to go further afield .... which ADV would be a better choice?

    Nice bike mate! 🤘
    Do you have to do rev matching when you downshift or this quick shifter pack does it for you?

      Quick shifter does it for you, both up shifting and down shifting. Works best doing all shifts except 1st to 2nd, which can be a bit clunky, sometimes 2nd to 3rd, too. In those situations, just use the clutch lever.

    Add a headlight protector!!! I picked up a rock from a car coming the other way on the open road. I could have almost bought a CRF300 rally for the cost of the headlight unit. 😢

    Went to order the tank pads and the link does not have the Africa Twin as an option. I have a 2020 AT DCT standard.

    You mentioned the Mosko’s rackless 80, wondering about fitment on the AT. Riding a 2018. Thoughts? Thanks

      I ride the 2018 ATAS DCT using Mosko Reckless 80 and it fits fine using the stock luggage rack. The downside is you lose the passenger seat area for people. The leg straps line up with pass. footpeg mounts for tie down just right at the #2 leg angle setting. I use the stock hard cases for round town riding, but they wouldn’t survive a roll over. The Mosko bags are indestructible and hold all you need for one rider. If riding 2-up the rack with panniers would be better, leaving seat space while allowing the luggage rack to hold another bag.

    Great reviews. Thanks. In one word over all prices, quality, performance which one you prefer? África twin 2022 or Pan American 2022? Thanks again

    Great video as always Ian. How does the fork shield work with your Mosko tankbag ? I use the Mosko tankbag as well so do the mounting straps go over the forkshield or underneath ? Thanks !

    Now that you have the AT for a while, would you still buy it over the Tiger 900 rally pro ? (I know that off road performances is a must for you)

      They are tied in my opinion. However, I'd get the Tiger 1200 Rally Pro, I prefer it to the Africa Twin, but it costs more!

    Hey Ian thanks for taking the time to do a fantastic video. My big question is fuel range with this bike, I live in Australia big distance between fuel stops especially “outback” could you let me know roughly the fuel range from a full tank ,I know it depends on how you ride but just a rough average, cheers and thanks

      25 liter tank X 25 km per liter Gives 600 km per tank.
