The fork deflector is DEFINITELY the first upgrade for this bike. A life changer!
Hey, great video! IMO the following are required for the AT or any serious Adventure bike. 1) CENTER STAND! Mine did not come with one and after the first flat, the center stand need became clear. 2) Add high quality HD tubes! The stock tubes are thin and they blow up once flat (since there is no rim lock for obvious reasons, once the rear tube starts losing air, and you tap the brakes, the tire slides on the rim and the valve tears from the tube.) 3) Air pump! needed to fix flats.... (reoccurring theme here?) 4) Spare tubes (in case you blow up a tube or your buddy with tubeless tires gets a flat, and can't seal his tire to his rim during the fix...). 5) Tool kit with prudent tools and tire changing gear (don't forget the lube for helping the tire slide on the rim during reassembly). Having been in the middle of nowhere with tire and mechanical needs, the above items are absolutely necessary... TX
List nicely done…would recommend adding these to the list; Basic Tool Roll, Tire Repair & First Aid Kits.
Would those go on the bottom of the list or do you see an item you would knock down the priority list and replace with these?
That's not necessarily related to the Africa Twin. I'd say it goes more on a list for general adv riding, no?
Honestly, id add toilet paper, its a must, i know 😂
My 2016 AT arrives next week have already ordered draft shield and grommets cheers mate.
So glad to hear it and I hope you are having a ton of fun.
Tyres,
Crash protection,
Fuse block,
Heated grips,
Side/rear racks/luggage.
looks like we went overboard on our Mods then! In our recent Video we show the list so far we have done, But bike Mods are never really completed eh!
Very true. We all go overboard on our mods. I think that is why lists like this might be helpful so people can think through what is needed versus wanted and what might be able to get disregarded altogether. Thank you so much for the feedback. I am checking out your channel now.
Good video, you checked all the boxes pretty much. My dealership actually puts a SAE power cord onto them so I didn't have to. It's great because that's where my heated jacket liner plugs in also a battery tender for storage in my off season. I have the fork tunnel air dam for mine too, also better foot pegs too. Rear rack I have because my bike has a top case mounted most of the time because it's just handy to put my stuff for work in there and take off instead of messing with a dry sack and then strapping that down.
That SAE power cord is vital for almost any usage of this bike. If it wasn’t such a pain to remove all the plastic, I would do a dash mounted one. As it stands my current pig tail does just fine. Thanks for the feedback.
Great video.
I own a 2019 Africa Twin.
Is there any particular type or size of grommet that works? Or are they all the same?
Can you provide an Amazon link or perhaps a brand?
This should work for you and you’ll have extras just in case.

Awesome I'm on my 2nd Africa twin
Great list. I've done all five. (Plus the center stand as suggested by others.) It's true; I ride the bike as often as possible. I only drive my car on Saturday to take a load to the recycling depot.
A $14 volt meter / cig plug / with 2 USB is a very useful device that allows you to monitor the electrical system at a glance.
Great additions, especially with all the "extras" we are riding with these days.
Where were you able to find fork tunnel air dam? Also place to purchase tusk Olympus panniers? Seems like they’re hard to find. Even rky mt arc didn’t have any. Thanks
Here are the Olympus Panniers sold through Rocky Mountain ATV - www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/tusk-olympus-pannier-bags-p
and here is the fork air dam - amzn.to/3KJm8uM
I bought a small battery backup to charge everything. I will actually charge my iPhone about 6 times. In the event it needs charging, I put it in my tank bag and run a line to the cig plug and let it charge while riding. Will come to full charge in about 3 hours, Amazon, 30 bucks
I have the same thing and it has been a life saver in plenty of circumstances. The problem is that with all the camera gear, it just won't cut it for the number and size of batteries I routinely bring along. This summer I am going with some new options and we will see how it all works out. Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving feedback.
@@BeGoneForGood your welcome, all I have is the phone, air pump and tire monitor. I can see the extra power needs with camera gear.
Live well, prosper and ride. Jim
Very helpful. Thanks
Absolutely...thanks for checking in.
I have a 2020 ATAS. It doesn't need the wind deflector. Great list though.
thanks for addressing my previous question about the tank bag straps :)
2 is the only one I would adjust. Getting something like a PC8 fuse panel is worth getting, that way if you add more you don't have to deal with the battery.
To me what needs to be added, a Center stand.
Now I'm going to regret saying this but luckily I've never dropped a grommet. Lol
I was going to suggest the same.
the book is great idea, i have one for tenere700
Good list. I recommend a good set of tires if you plan on off-roading. I also recommend replacing the kick stand with something else like Camel ADV because the stock kickstand is prone to bending and breaking.
You took the words right out of my mouth. th-cam.com/video/kBklG31D-HY/w-d-xo.html
The kickstand is a good one as I’ve heard many others has issues though I haven’t seen it myself.
Speaking of tyres.....I prefer the base model 1100. It has tubed tyres, which in my mind are very dangerous if you pick up a nail at speed! Should I be worried, or is today's technology with inner tubes and tyres different from 30 years ago?
I guess you're in Charlotte area. I could join your group for a ride. Coming from 1200GS. AT dct 2021 currently. It's awesome.
Close but I’m coming from the Raleigh Durham area. We’d love to have you along for a ride. We are still assembling plans for our summer ride but stay tuned to the channel and we’ll get all the info out to you.
my upgrades in the order:
Heated grips
Socket
Charging port
Crash bar
Panniers
Tankbag
Camel side stand steel
Batzen Screen adjuster
Fork shield
Barkbuster
LED lights
Double take mirrors
And I’m not done
good to know, where can I find wind deflector for my '18 ATAS DCT?
One day i'll join the ride
I went through Amazon to get mine. If you just type in your year and "air dam" you should get multiple options.
The best upgrade to do on the african twin is install gummy knobby tires! forget the DOT street legal knobbys. GUMMYS stick like glue on road and off! Ching sing 505 rear or the IRC gummys. Real game changing tires for rock or cement.
Great point, especially for the guys that really want to push this bike.
Great video. What was the Amazon # for the windshield grommets
Thank you so much and here’s the link. amzn.to/3wGrH4Q
When a video on a motorcycle?
Very good advice that is mostly valid for other motorcycles
Tealy usefully tips and help thoroughly recommend watching
How about more shots of the bike and the accessories being discussed rather than this guy’s goofy head shot?
There is something sort of majestic and mesmerizing about it though isn’t there?
