I'd love to hear what Metallica thinks of it. Chicago heard the rendition of Nothing Else Matters by VoicePlay and they got an invite to the November 17-18 Chicago and Friends concert to sing with them. I think it will be aired in February and I'm looking forward to hearing it. VoicePlay has done a post-apocalyptic trilogy( over a 3 yr period) of Warriors (Imagine Dragons), Dream On (Aerosmith) and Seven Nation Army (White Stripes). Their version of Creep (RadioHead) is amazing, as is In The Air Tonight (Phil Collins). Their nod to video games is iconic: Dragonborn Comes Skyrim and Halo theme. If you haven't reacted to Tennessee Whiskey (Chris Stapleton) yet, find a slot for that one too.
Hoist the Colours, Valhalla Calling and Carry On Wayward Son are definitely some other VoicePlay musts, but click on anything that catches your eye and you won't be disappointed.
The bass- Geoff Castellucci- was also the one who created the vocal arrangement for this song. He tends to share the duty with the vocal percussionist, Layne Stein. They tend to take turns creating the arrangements (sometimes Eli- rhymes with 'jelly'- Jacobson, the rock tenor who mostly took lead here will provide one), and whoever does the arrangement is generally also responsible for the video conception, sourcing and editing. Yep, these guys are 100% independent and always have been, and everything you see and hear from them is of their creation. Layne is the co-owner of a video production studio (Pattycake Productions) with former VoicePlay baritone, Tony Wakim, and a lot of VoicePlay's videos are shot there. Eli does their lighting work, and is a real genius at that art. He also provides special effects such as utilizing Unreal Engine to provide hyper-realistic backdrops. Geoff also has a solo channel which is well worth checking out. He performs his covers by multitracking his voice so that he sings all the vocal parts with much the same incredible harmonies you hear from VoicePlay. And there are no tricks; Geoff's voice spans 5 octaves with incredible tone ad support throughout his range. I'll be looking forward to your further dive into VoicePlay (and hopefully Geoff's solo work as well!)- you're going to have so much fun! Subscribing in anticipation!
This is my favourite Voiceplay of 2023 - followed closely but another request by other commenters below: In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins). You might also (very much!) enjoy "Carry on Wayward Son" (Kansas), "Dream On" (Aerosmith), Kiss (Prince) and Enemy (Imagine Dragons) - their game theme covers are beyone epic (Dragonborn (Skyrim), Halo, Valhalla Calling etc.), they are the KINGS of Halloween and Disney - and they also did some medleys (like Queen in 5 minutes and Boy Bands in 5 minutes). In fact, choose your genre and just pick a song from their catalogue - they are geniuses - so you won't be disappointed. Their minis are also fantastic (Wellerman, TimeWarp, Peaches, I'm too Sexy for my shirt) ETC etc. This is one rabbit hole well worth going down. 🌹🕊
They just killed this! You would not be disappointed with their cover of Dream On either. Fans refer to the violin as the VioLayne since the beat boxer Layne plays it. I say more Voiceplay! Thank you so much
They're about to drop Lion Sleeps Tonight - it would intro you to an entirely different side of VP - not only a fresh view and gorgeous vocals, but I guarantee they will make you laugh. This one is arranged by Layne, the beatbox.
Love Voiceplay, though this track by Metallica is bittersweet, it was the last thing my nephew played on his guitar before he died in a motorcycle accident, we used his playing then faded in Metallica playing Nothing Else Matters as the background music to part of a video of his life and loves, we had spoken to him just a short while before he died and he was having a great time at a race track, a few minutes later he was out on track came over the hill into a hairpin bend and there was a slow bike there and my nephew went into the back of it snapping his neck. Dive Deep into Voiceplay they are great and their videos are very well done. Thanks Joel.
Enjoyed your reaction. Voiceplay is an amazingly talented group that covers many genres of music. Want all the feels - check out their version of Creep, True Colors, or I Can't Make You Love Me. Change of pace and want to get silly, go for Drunken Sailor or their new release The Lion Sleeps Tonight - Post Apocalyptic, Warriors, Seven Nation Army, or Dream On - into Viking. try Valhalla Calling or My Mother Told Me. Great rabbit hole to explore.
I agree with the suggestions you already got. Voiceplay has no bad covers. But I’d also like you to see another side of them. How about Drunken Sailor or Hall of the Mountain King? Yes, that last one has no lyrics, but when Layne arranges and directs that doesn’t matter. Hear their voices and the music itself change each time one of them adds to the cauldron. And imaging if it’s that fun to watch, how fun it must have been to make. Even though you weren’t talking during the video I loved watching you react. You didn’t need to stop and talk to make your reactions clear. And even if you don’t pause the video to comment, you shouldn’t have any copyright holds. Voiceplay likes to have reactors share their music. (Many reactors are now patrons themselves.)
Yes, VoicePlay is able to make arrangements that honor the original yet sound new. No two of their covers are the same and their entire production integrity is one of my favorite things about them.
Their cover of Aerosmith’s Dream On. What they do with that high note has to be heard. They’ve also done Seven Nation Army and the bass may have a surprise for you in that one. ‘Cause this wasn’t his idea of low. 😉
Yeah, this is just insanely good, as you'll come to expect from VoicePlay (and Geoff Castellucci, individually). You so need to check out their cover of Radiohead's "Creep." I think it might be the best thing they've ever done (vocally), even though they have better music videos. You need to check out Aurora's new single / music video, "The Conflict of the Mind," too!
Voiceplay is pure vocal skills and we love em foe it. The song that really semented it for me was boogieman. They just showcased their skills and thst one blew my mind.
Loved your reaction to this epic arrangement - the violin doing the guitar solo took everyone by surprise and has made more than a few reactors lose it! This one is special, and as others have mentioned, got them an invite to sing with Chicago! Subscribed for more and to watch you enjoy your journey down this rabbit hole! 😊
I'm so enjoying your reactions to VP; your face echoes the delight I felt at discovering these talented folks not too long ago. I especially enjoy the little stories you throw in from your own experience. Subbed for more VP reactions.

Vio-Layne is in the building!!

J. None has also been adding songs to his channel that are worth checking out. I sure hope he comes back to VP once he and the Navy part ways.

VoicePlay is the best of the best! VoicePlay and Geoff Castellucci are my fave music channels on TH-cam. ❤🔥
Thanks for the reaction.
For your next VoicePlay I suggest 'In The Air Tonight' by Phil Collins and listen to how Layne does the iconic drumfill.
I read another comment somewhere else that it was this cover of Nothing Else Matters that earned VoicePlay an invite to perform with Chicago.
This group has become absolutely amazing! Very different from their Sing Off days, which I thoroughly enjoyed! 💖

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad you have so many fond memories of him.
If you do decide to check out more Voiceplay - Hellfire and also Hoist the Colours High are amazing.
They do Dream On to perfection. You're going to love it. They never disappoint 😊

Fun reaction! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Would love to see Metallica react to this. Would be amazing to see what they think
Voiceplay is one of the most creative and entertaining acapella groups I have heard.
They are genius! ❤
Great reaction, I look forward to many more Voiceplay reactions
