The day that you stop giving us your honest take on what you’re reacting to is the day that I’ll unsubscribe. It was a great take by VP on the classic by Metallica. You had a critique of one specific stylistic choice within the song and a whole bunch of people got butt hurt. Well, boo hoo. And for all those people that start their comments with statements like “I’m an older person” or “I’m over sixty” or “I’ve heard this original or that original hundreds of times” then you should know that music appreciation is subjective and no one, REPEAT, no one listens to, or hears a song the same way as someone else. It’s sad that some people need to be validated by hearing someone else always agree with them. Michael, I value your input on all of your reactions and I love it when you express a thought that people will take umbrage with. Believe me, it says more about them than it does about you. Keep on doing what you do brother. 🔥
Reactors that hide their true opinions rarely make my sub list. I want to hear thoughts and feelings not just "oh yeah this song that was highly requested was great 8/10 like and sub goodbye"....
I always respect your opinion because you are measured in stating it. You are respectful to the artist and your audience. This is Geoff's arrangement. He said that when he is going to arrange something, he listens to the original over and over and then to as many covers as he can find. Then, if he can't add something to it, her walks away. Voiceplay will always pay homage to the original but it will never be the same. I'm glad to have you back, and glad to see you reacting to Voiceplay. I will always be here for them and Geoff!
I really appreciate that you always give your opinion and are honest about how you feel about the music you are listening to. I also appreciate that your criticism is always constructive and fair, you have respect for the artists and their talent and give credit where credit is due as well. I will be very honest that i dont think i have ever heard any version of this song before Voiceplay covered it and I enjoyed this cover but honestly listening to what you said really gave me something else to think about this song which i didnt consider before this video. I completely understand and agree with what you said about the song needing the grit. I think if Geoff and Eli took the lead on this song together that would have really been something special.
That’s all I was trying to say, music is a puzzle, choices, I’ve actually done it long enough to know, sometimes your right, sometimes your wrong. They were brilliant hear, I just don’t care for that one spot, that’s all
They are adding j none because he is not actively in the group. Being said that he did a fantastic job on filling in that lead role. But considering you are right about Ellie crushing it. Still a great cover.
Opinions are like buttholes, everyone has them, or at least they should. Everyone has and is entitled to their opinion. I have seen Metalica live and on television. I have all of their albums. There will never be any substitute for the real deal, however, I am also a musician. I take every sound I hear in my body with a grain of salt, realizing that it is not the origional. I have to say, that this song is one of their best, but notthe best. I do however, believe that their version, is the best remix of that particular song. We all need to relish in our differences and come together when we agree. Love to you and all brother. Keep up the good work.
I never say I prefer this one or the other. They always change it up and make it their own otherwise they don't see the point in doing it. If I want grit I'll listen to Metallica. If I want to feel the song in a soulful, thoughtful way then I'll listen to voiceplay. It's a mood thing
100% agree with you and at the same time respect their decision to make it their own(as they always do). Kind of a roller coaster of liking it, loving it, liking it. But when Layne comes in with the violin…mind blown, really cool rendition/arrangement.
Geoff's running bass in this shines, and that ending!? What??? I admit I started to watch with a skeptic mind as this is one of my absolute favorite Metallica songs and I really didn't think acapella would do it justice. I am happy to admit I was dead wrong!
The best part about this arrangement and the Matalica original is that the intensity is the same. I believe the best groups in acapella never forget the original feeling one has from the original song. They either keep it real or kick it up a notch. Best part about Voice Play is they boldly go where acapella has never gone before. AND KNOCK IT OUT. OF THE PARK!
The opening to this song (original) is my everyday notification noise. Was excited to sit with you (figuratively- lol) to explore this one! And go after it Geoff!
Never understand people who want carbon copy versions of cover songs. Like if you wanted to hear it done like the original go listen to the original. I love hearing how other people take songs and make them their own whilst still honouring the original. Voiceplay does that on all their songs and I love the unique ways they give songs their own flare.
Eli (the bald one) has an amazing range and has sung with rock bands so he has the perfect voice for this. Personally i like the soulful tones in this and the adding of the violin was pure genius❤🏴
I think the original with the way Metallica sung it had more vocal grit and because they are an acapella group they went pretty and dark instead of rough. The tools they used like the chromatic tones are very hard to incorporate so in their own way I think they challenged themselves. J None sang it in a slightly more R&B style that's smoother and slides down the notes better and less rock and that might be why something seems missing when in reality they just went a different direction. I would have liked Eli to show more grit in just one verse, but his electric high notes I think made up for it in spots. I also thought the electric violin Layne played was a really nice touch that made less of a mockery of the music than vocally emulating a guitar solo would have.
I can see your point and your channel is one of my top 5 out of everything I watch, no BS, and I have been a Metallica fan for decades. That being said, I truly mean no disrespect but I do differ in opinion. I wouldn't call this better or worse than the original. We're talking about two separate genres. The respect to Metallica is in the fact that Voiceplay chose their song out of everything they could have chosen. One problem that older songs have is age. By doing a modern version in a different genre, it breathes new life into it and grants exposure to people that might not give Metal a chance. This could spark some curiosity and get new people to seek out Metallica. I like that they put a fresh spin on a classic. Just like there are some phenomenal metal covers of non-metal songs. Bluegrass as well. If you are looking for an entertaining example, look up "bluegrass Crazy Train". It's awesome. Metallica liked Miley Cyrus's cover of "Nothing Else Matters" so much, they actually teamed up and let her sing lead. She was closer to the original than Voiceplay but she added a few vocal runs in there that was all her.
Thank you Eric, the thing is I never compared the too, I simply said there was drop off in one portion of the song for me, J None who is brilliant wasn’t what I expected in one part as a singer myself I would have approached it differently. This was amazing!!!!! I’ll had one critique, I expressed it, that’s all
@@DramaSydETV I totally get that. I wasn't meaning to imply something you didn't say. You gave your honest opinion and that's what makes your channel awesome. First, you don't just follow the crowd. Second, you are speaking from experience. Keep being you man and thank you for the great content.
Well, I loved J.None’s bit, but not mad. LOL. To each his/her own. Maybe I’m just so glad to hear him with Voiceplay again I don’t really care what they’re singing. Anyway, I agree, this was definitely right up there among Voiceplay’s best.
I appreciate your opinion of this cover. I personally love all of it but it's really interesting to hear another perspective. Imagine how boring it'd be if everyone loved the exact same songs and hated the exact same music. Then these reaction channels would be completely redundant because it'd all be so predictable! We need to have different opinions and discuss things and as long as it's done with respect then that's how it should be. Great reaction, bro.
Eli has the grit, and an amazing range. Plus he a master of riffs and runs. He shines here. As does Geoff, and Layne. If Geoff hadn't felt they could pull this off, he wouldn't have attempted it. That's how he works. I am old, much older than you, have heard most things in my time, and yes, the original is a classic. And i love this just as much. It's possible to love both and I do. It isn't to your raste, and that's ok. I just ask that you judge it on its merits. rather than comparing it with what you want from it. It feels like you're comparing apples with oranges. This is VoicePlay. You don't pick up an apple, say it's a great apple but - it's not an orange. Well Duh! Geoff has said they are not a karaoke act. Whatever they do they bring their own style to, it's what they do. This is who they are.
I respect your opinion very much. We all have our opinions and I've loved the original since it came out. I hear the original thru it, but I also love 💘 the differences too. I highly respect what those guys can do with voices only. My mother was a music teacher. She could pick apart music going and coming just per ear. Not everybody can do that. I feel blessed to have gotten a bit of it from her. I was playing classical on piano at age 8 per ear. I couldn't read music yet. So I hear what your saying and I'm fine with your feelings. But I'm also very fine with this interpretation of a holy grail metal rock song being done acapella. It takes big balls to tackle a holy grail song of any kind due to fans wanting purity of the original. So I applaud Voiceplay for what I consider a masterpiece and I applaud you sir, for your honesty. May God bless and keep you always. 🙏
Hey ya, man, how's it going? I really enjoyed your reaction to this one, thank you for taking the time to do it. I have to say that I'm not an objective listener when it comes to much of what Voiceplay does, I'm a fan. I can appreciate your position, though, and understand where it comes from. I don't personally agree, but that's the spice in life. We don't always have to agree on everything. I mean, everyone has the right to be wrong. ( I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself 🤣🤣🤣)For real, though, I respect your opinion and can even see what you're talking about. For me acapella is supposed to bring to mind all of the things you love about the original piece they're covering, but be different enough that the artists who are doing the cover shine through, too. And, for me at least, that was the case. Every note they sang reminded me of just how absolutely awesome the original piece was. The rough, yet surprisingly pleasing, tone of James Hatfield's voice when he shocked me by being able to actually sing ( a little ), that deep, heavy bass, the constant, restless movement behind the major focus of the song, the sadness in the voice, the pain, and the vulnerability, all of that was there for me. But, hey, it may have hit differently with you. And, that's okay. I still luv yer face, man.
I happen to be friends with a cpl members of the group. I felt the touch of soul as you suggest it was a nice touch sine it was an acapella rendition. I however understand what your are saying! I don't speak to them much as of late but I am sure they will understand your point of view.
Love and respect to you for your reaction. Huge Voiceplay fan. Huge Metallica fan. It came out the year after I graduated from Highschool. I'm dating myself I know. 1992! I completely respect your opinion.
I'm a big Voiceplay fan. The first time I heard this I was disappointed that it switched off Eli to J for exactly the grit reason you explain, and I am not even a metal fan.( I listened to the original so I could appreciate this.) But it grew on me. After listening for a bit I appreciate how they ensure each person has a chance to take point in this song, and I love that they basically say "this metal song is so great it surpasses genre boundaries". Also, the sobbing catch from J at the end is perfect for the unique voiceplay atmosphere. They live the words of this song in their art, making each thing their own, and part of what they do is avoid making a single person a star. It is what makes them unique.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this arrangement, even while seeing how you would have approached it differently, especially with J's part - you clarified that his voice and talent are not what you disagreed with, but rather the direction and execution of that part of the song and I appreciate that insight.
I like your honest reaction. You're not just knee-jerk beefing that is isn't 'canon'. You're disagreeing with the styilistic choices, which is educational. I can't learn more about the choices in music arrangement if everyone fanboys with no disagreement. One great thing VP has done is send me to the original, and I find a new love with artists I never would have listened to otherwise. Thank you for your honest opinion. (subscribed)
One of my favorite Metallica songs. That bass...........NASTY!!!! Holy moly, that vibrated thru my ear down to my throat it was so ridiculous. BTW, I mean this in a good way lol 😆
Did you like the violin part? I saw the shock in your face lol And I understand what you meant, J did take it soulful but I saw that as maybe what James Hetfield couldn't put into words because he's a "metal guy" a lot of people have that mentality that a metal guy can't be soulful you know what I mean? But I'm glad you did like the video
This was a fantastic reaction. Even as a friend of J. None's I understand and respect your take on this even if I dont agree ( I'm admittedly bias). I too am a Metallica fan but I think this is the perfect arrangement for them as it showed everyone's strongest side. J. and Caesar will always be strongest doing more soulful sound, Eli (pronounced EL-EE) has a beautiful clean sound but when he dirties it up, it's magic, Geoff is Geoff, Layne pulling out the violin. Its all crazy. I loved your Shooketh face for the last half of the song. I agree that this was one of their best covers ever and would add that it is one of the best covers of this song I have heard. You dont need to defend yourself for thinking the way you do, we are ALL entitled to our opinion so just do you. I think J.None would agree completely.
@@DramaSydETV I did see that for sure. You just didnt care for that one R&B style section. I get it my man and J wouldnt sweat it at all. He's one of the chillest guys I know.
Like it, don't like it - VoicePlay will always take you on a journey. They're not going to hold one level throughout, they're going to keep things interesting - for those of us that crave variety - I do know the original. I'm old, can't not know it. Revisited it the morning this was released - twice through. I'm not going to talk about better/worse. What I love about VoicePlay is that they keep me engaged and keep surprising me, from one verse to the next, there's never two verses that are the same. But I also know that it's not what everyone wants from music. Choices. Glad to see you back, reacting to VP again.
I have been a Metallica fan since the 80s and i can tell you, as a metalhead, this cover rocked my core and brought tears to my eyes...such a wonderful rendition of an iconic song....this is talent....salute to VP....
Your honesty is why I enjoy watching your reactions. You don't BS, you shoot from the hip. A lot of reactors out there are dishonest, and do it for the views.
I highly respect your opinions and your thoughts on this group, and all the other groups that you react to. You’re genuine and straightforward and I thank you for that. Continue being you and everybody else. Oh well.
True, enough, J. None's voice, has its 'place', maybe Metal-Rock isn't it, but, except for a few places in the arrangement, it was very well done, Most 'reactors' have their ow 'jaw dropping' moment.....and yes, you had yours......>^^
I had faith. They did Wayward Son proud. They did this too! That look when the Fiddle came in. Zak Brown does Sandman with a fiddle, I shit you not, on the SOLO!
Brother Michael, I went immediately and listened to Metallica's original version and was Thrilled with their rendition!!! It's hard to beat the Original version!!! Crystal Clear Vocals by Metallica!!!
I agree with you. There are not many metal songs that I like but this one has always been one that I love. Everyone has an opinion and I agree with you about everything.
I loved this song when it came out. Even went to Metallicas concert 😊 I really loved this rendition of the song mostly bcs of Geoff. Even so, I can absolutely see where you’re coming from. People don’t understand that one can really enjoy something and still feel it could have been done even better. You do you and I hope you don’t receive hate. ❤
Might hold the record for longest "shocked" face by you! 😮 almost 1 solid minute. I felt like we were waiting for something at the end that never came... right?
I still remember when the original was released. I was working in a cassette/cd shop, we had a hard time keeping it stocked. I completely understand and appreciate what you said and even though I love J. to pieces, I also cannot disagree with you. Some songs are just better suited to some vocalists more than others. No wrong or right, just preference.
Thanks for reacting to this, Michael! I love that you're honest with your takes on the songs you react to. I think that's why I miss your reactions so much when they aren't there!
@@DramaSydETV Oh, I imagine saying what I said will get tomatoes tossed my way, too, but *shrug*. It is what it is, y'know? IMO, NEVER stop being you. I don't always agree with your opinions on some of the stuff you react to, but you are MOST DEFINITELY entitled to state your opinion. It's YOUR channel, after all!
I'm always glad to hear your opinion, as you are always respectful and measured in it. You can disagree or not like the direction taken in the arrangement or the style or whatever else you might have a critique on, but you have always shown that you still appreciate and respect the talent and work that goes into the creation. I have always felt you have done that and it's why I come back and watch. These guys all have great voices in their own rights and while I personally like the soul J. None added, especially at the end, I also 100% understand where you are coming from. I adore the Metalica version, it is an absolute classic. This is VP's take with their voices and their arrangement of it. I can understand why J. None's voice may not be the one you would have chosen, especially when considering you have Geoff and Eli (L-E) (the bald guy with the rock voice) also in the mix who do carry it very well. Differences of opinion about J's part aside, I agree, this is one of, if not their best cover to date. Late in getting to your reaction, but I enjoyed it and hope you continue to do your thing just the way you do.
Glad you watched it! All in all I think this is one of Voiceplay"s best .I do appreciate your opinion but I still loved it! Glad you liked it as well 😊
A suggestion for your viewing pleasure..Try a band called Liliac...and, their cover of Master of Puppets....Or an Original Called Not Afraid, LIVE in Woodstock, GA...
As someone who is very familiar with the original (love it), Voice Play really did a phenomenal cover here. I will agree with you on your assessment/opinion regarding the “soul” part. I absolutely love, and miss J None, but Eli and Geoff were the stars in this because of the context of the song being Rock based. Eli killed it and brought the angst into it. Then you have Geoff brining us into the deep with those low notes. Then during the breakdown when they blew it out the water with the powerhouse harmonies and Layne playing the electric violin was the icing on the cake! It’s a Rock classic that they totally nailed!
I think you are right, and that might have been the point... Eli's entry with the rock tenor was so much more impactful than if he had been singing lead the whole song. My 2 cents.
@@DramaSydETV I am here for your opinions, and the way you present them. These are matters of taste, and I don't always agree...but I always come back!
You nailed it with your comments comparing this to the original Metallica rendition, and nailed it when you said this was one of the best arrangements that voiceplay has done. I like and respect your comments. That's why I listen to your reactions.
I had read some comments before watching, I knew exactly what you were going to point out, I agree while the soulfulness is beautiful and all- it doesn’t fit Metallica. I feel the whole song should have been led by Eli with his grit. I absolutely love what they’ve done here it’s amazing, but I had the exact same thoughts as you as to those few choices.
I think they are never trying to copy the original, it's making its own statement. And that's the thing about a hyper-creative group like this. They will always do elements that are the same, but their take will be their own. While I respect your opinion, and your right to hold it, I sometimes think it's better to go into it without preconceived notions about how it "should" sound, because they will ALWAYS make it their own. I think it's what sets them apart into a league of their own. That said I appreciate that you can still like it for what it is.
Hi again. VoicePlay did this the week of my birthday and after listening, it felt like a birthday present. It stunned me and I had to go and listen to Metallica do it. I now know why Layne did the instrumental solo, in this case the violin and in Metallica the guitar. Geoff had originally done a vocal "guitar solo" and at the end asked Layne to break out his violin, only 3 times has he done this over 25 yrs. I really appreciate your commentary.
This was great I'm not disputing that. But I was a little disappointed as it personally didn't meet my expectations from Eli. I felt for such a strong metal voice he didn't get enough time to shine. I mean this is Metallica but i feel like we've seen Eli do more metal in other songs than we did in there METALLICA cover.-for this one I feel like at the start Eli should have done all js parts with j coming in at the end with his soulful voice like he did because after the violin and loud harmonies j worked incredibly well with his voice but I didn't feel it worked in the start where I was wanting more metal specifically Eli
I think the idea that a song needs to be sung in a similar fashion to how it was originally performed is a bit silly. Imagine if Chris Stapleton tried to sing Tennessee Whiskey like David Allen Coe or David Michael Draiman tried to sing Sound of Silence like Simon and Garfunkel. Changes people make to a song may not always work, but I think J None singing this melody sounds amazing, so why fret over him bringing his own sound to the song. I personally don't think the song would have been as interesting if Eli sang the lead the whole time.
Thank you for the great reaction. I am a huge fan of Metallica and Voiceplay both. This is one if my all time faves by Metallica. I think they did an amazing job. I do agree that perhaps J could have put some grit in his part. Anyway, love your reaction and honesty.
Grit is not an easy thing to add without damaging your voice unless you've done some serious training. J may never have had that training. Eli certainly has and can drop into distortion as and when needed. Remember, you only have one set of vocal chords. When they're blown you're finished.
@@TheGrannyNut fair but I’ve been singing since I was 2 and can do so, but this isn’t even the point I was making, I was speaking of the arrangement and placement of the singers
@@DramaSydETV I know that. I was replying to the original poster, not referencing your point as to the arrangement. But - I'm not a patron of this group so don't get all the inside info. That said, I have a feeling the softer vocals were deliberately placed to make a point, to emphasise a more gentle line. The orchestral version of this song is not all about grit from James Hatfield, after all, and that is the version being covered here.
I'm going to have to agree with you here, DramaSydE - much as I love J.None's voice, I could happily have heard Eli sing all of the high lead parts in his gorgeous rock grit, which he always excels at. J.None's soulful voice is beautiful, but a song like this needs that hard edge Eli can provide. Having said that, I can thoroughly enjoy the song if I don't register it in my head as being a Metallica one.
Taking your point in all that you say regarding the arrangement, I would just like to add that I'm old enough to remember when the original came out, and the Metallica Fandom absolutely went bipolar. A sizeable portion considered the original to NOT be metal, or not metal enough. It was a rather boisterous disagreement, to say the least.
I didn’t expect an OPINION to cause such a stir, but I won’t stop speaking it otherwise what am I here for, I learned a lot after this reaction, and I’ll change things moving forward
I disagree with you in regards to J None’s part. I hadn’t heard the original, so after I listened to voiceplay, I listened to Metallica so I could compare, then I went and listened to voiceplay again. I love both versions, however I truly think that voiceplay did a truly just cover. I like the way voiceplay changes thing’s slightly, but still adheres to the respect for the original. It wouldn’t be respectful to just copy the original.
every time Layne catches that violin my eyes get watery. you never disappoint, DramSydE. love your reactions. edit: for what it's worth, i agree with you even though i still love the arrangement, it could have been better with what you suggested.
I went to Metallica after hearing this one and was surprised at how much homage was given to Metallica's version. I loved the quietude in the beginning and the swells in the climax of the song. To me, it brought everything from the beginning with phrases in truth and then hit so hard on the max before dropping back. Metallica also had the guitar solo toward the end. Geoff had written it for Layne and then asked Layne if he could use the violin for that. I felt like the guys singing and the violin at those incredibly high notes were in sync. I love this.
The bald headed gentleman that was nailing the High parts....his name is Eli. (It's pronounced Ellie). Then we've got Caesar and Layne!!! Thanks for the reaction Brother!!! I've got to go listen to the original by Metallica....not sure if I've heard it before!!! Thank you, again!!!
Yay, thanks for reacting to this! I personally like the full arrangement but I can appreciate the way you feel about parts of it. You still overall loved it! Which makes me the happiest!
Sometimes vocal gymnastics are not appropriate for a song.......I'm with you on this one . Jeff could have hit this one out of the park as lead vocalist.
im on a binge of VP-reactions. your take was really interesting to me so i went to hear the original, and... yeah. It really depends if you go in expecting a "metallica cover" (in acapella) or an "acapella cover" (of metallica). if you hear them back to back, it leaves you hanging with the way it was arranged. BUT if you havent heard the original in a while, the way it builds up to Elli makes you think "oh yeah its METALLICA BABY". two sides of the same coin.
I agree with your opinion. I can respect each piece for what they are, each accomplishing their unique musical goals in different ways, and I adore VP, but yeah.
I personally like that you give your honest opinion. You have a point wanting Eli and Geoff in the lead. Nothing Else Matters is one of the first songs that I ever connected with. It means so much to me. I completely agree that people should listen to the original song if they’re going to compare them. I think some people don’t go to the original because they don’t want comparisons (which only lead to disappointment). Though if they’re saying one is better and haven’t heard the other, I’m just as perplexed as you. With that said, look at it from Voiceplay’s side. Yes, it’s rock, but it’s a heartfelt rock ballad. They have different voices with different strengths to them. Each singer conveys different emotions but they kept it intimate like James Hetfield without trying to imitate him. Bless you for always sharing your honest thoughts.
I first heard this song when I was 7 years old back in 92 when it first came out. It’s didn’t understand the lyrics at the time but what seven year old does, still I thought the song was both amazing and beautiful. Hearing it again decades later song by these incredible vocalists it’s still as fantastic as it was the first time I first heard it sung by Metallica all those years ago.
Huge Metallica and old school metal fan and Death Metal fan as well. Love this version of the song (one of my favorite songs) and I like that VoicePlay does not try to be Metallica. If they had tried to imitate Metallica I would not have liked it. I think this song pretty much stands on it's own as a VoicePlay song. Love J None's voice although I thought he was a surprising choice for this one. He kind of provided a balance in the song. Really I tend not to compare covers with the original in music. I usually am very familiar with the originals but to me it is comparing apples and oranges, If I like the cover I like it and if I don't I don't mind saying so. I liked this cover on it's own merits.
Always Glad for an honest opinion. I agree also about people judging a work like this without having any idea of the source material. Not really a Metallica fan but I agree with your reaction. I do however kinda like this but as I said... Will be watching for your next reaction.
love this reaction it perplexed me in places too, but still very much enjoyed how it turned, n yes i'm an older person, but I can tell that while the original is extremely epic , the work put in here does make it an excellent cover ...honestly who would even consider doing it in accapella , and appreciate it foe what it is.
I think if it had been any other Metallica song I would agree with you. But Nothing Else Matters always had that more plaintive tone any melancholy to it, (James didn't even want to show it to tge rest of the band at first) and I think J. caught that perfectly. I also think a lot of the meaning of missing someone so important for so long is very real and personal between J. and the rest of the guys and that REALITY comes through in the performance.
Favorite Metallica song? Has it changed over the years or stayed the same? Orion is great but in terms of fun playing I’d have to give it to Disposable Heroes
I really appreciate this take and I can see how you got there (especially since I'm thinking we both probably heard the original when it first came out) I always felt like the original was one of Metallica's more melancholic songs and why (for me) it felt like J None's more soulful parts worked.
In my case, i seriously dislike Metallica and the original of this - makes my ears and throat hurt. But THIS one - makes me want to listen to the original again just to see how they got here from there! Love your reactalysis.
Ok this is random but it made me laugh-so I'm gonna share what your comment did to my brain (and I'm just going to say, in my defense, I've been at home sick for a week with little to no human interaction... And this is just how my little weird brain works. It it has nothing to do with your whole comment or the song but when my brain saw the last word of your comment it interpreted reactalysis as a potential medical diagnosis... as in "Mr. DramaSydE, we're sorry to tell you - you have reactalysis" and I just cracked up. 😄😁😅🤣🤪 So thank you for the laugh! And I'm sorry! 🤣)
@@charlottebailey1024 omg, i hadn't thought of it - and i'm the one always coming up with the puns! Don't be sorry - it's hilarious. "Mr DramaSydE, we have to schedule you for a reactalysis session" - now you've got me doing it!
I enjoyed your reaction, I feel a little different then you about the choices VoicePlay made with the song, but I understand where you’re coming from. I’m glad you enjoyed it though, for a second I was worried, but I’m happy to hear that overall you loved it. I like that you’re honest with your thoughts and feelings about the songs you react to, and I’m glad you don’t mind that others don’t always have the same opinions and that we can discuss and have conversations of some of the reasons we feel differently. (I thought I’d put down how i ended up looking at the song, but I went and got a little long winded… you all can totally ignore me, I just get over excited sometimes and I like respectful discussion.. sorry. Thanks again for the reaction) Honestly I was REALLY hesitant to listen VoicePlay’s version of this song BECAUSE I hold Metallica so close to my heart, and this song means a lot to me. I’ve heard covers that butchered this song, and I love VoicePlay so much. I would be so disappointed if it was too different and didn’t pay respect to the original. I was so happy with their version of the song. Is it different? Yes, very different. But, the original was very different for Metallica at the time, it was an emotional song written by one of the members and they hadn’t really done anything much like it before. (I believe don’t quote me, I grew up listening to them and all their songs so I might not be completely correct on the timeline but I’m mostly sure, there might be some slower emotional songs in albums before their Black Album, but I think it was one of the firsts and very different from their typical style) I personally liked that VoicePlay started the song softly, with a lot of emotion and some tenderness. I can imagine the original song was written with that type of emotion. I also like how the song progresses, the increase in the intensity then down to the settling ending. To me, it kind of feels (sounds?) how the feelings in an emotional situation grow and change. Slow like you’re sad or upset then grows to hurt and super overwhelmed, then calming down, to working thing out, or acceptance, then working on moving on. I don’t think I’ll ever compare Metallica’s and VP’s versions of these two songs. This will always be one of my favorite songs. And I just don’t think I could. I feel like VP focused on the emotional side of the song and because they aren’t a metal group they were able to put more tenderness into their version. I feel they paid tribute to the original and respected it. I didn’t feel disappointed (or disrespected lol because I think if they butchered it I would have taken it a little personally, this song really means so much to me) VP made the song true to them, and I love it. I listen to both versions regularly. And love them both. Now if they ever decide to try and cover Enter Sandman, I think I’d be even more hesitant. I’d have a headache I think actually. That one means the world to me and I haven’t found a cover yet that I’ve liked, can’t hold a candle to Metallica’s original. But Geoff and Layne have a way of surprising me, and surpassing my expectations so who knows. For me Geoff knocked it out of the park, the guys all did a great job. And I’ve fallen in love with this song. An A+ from me. 💛
I would Love to see what James Hatfield would say to this one…. They could’ve capitalized on J None a lill more.. but over all… they did the song 🎧 justice
When I first heard this song by Voiceplay, I had not heard the original. It's either because I'm a boomer or because I've been living under a rock- I don't know. I'm aware of Metallica as a band, but had never actually listened to them because I'm not that into metal. I'm just more into pop music - you know, Carpenters, Osmonds, Barry Manilow (sue me! I like his voice). At some point, after having listened to the song multiple times by Voiceplay, both on its own and with reactors, it dawned on me that I ought to go listen to the original. Went and found it and listened to it and it's good. It's not my new favorite song ever, but it's good. That said, I prefer Voiceplay's version, probably because I'd listened to it a dozen times at that point. And there's a tendency for me to like what I'm familiar with over something new. I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction, particularly because it was an honest reaction telling us the good and the bad that you saw in the song. I don't mind a reactor that says "oh, this is amazing. This is wonderful." But it's certainly nice to hear a more nuanced reaction.
Thank you so much bro
💯👏👏👏👏💯🔥🔥🔥🔥💯
Agreed 💯!
Dang SKIPPY!!! Michael is dead on with his opinions!!! And You are also Correct realbser56!!!
Reactors that hide their true opinions rarely make my sub list. I want to hear thoughts and feelings not just "oh yeah this song that was highly requested was great 8/10 like and sub goodbye"....
I appreciate your opinion and all of your expressions. ♥
Thank you and again it’s amazing, I just as the artist and producer in me I would’ve went another way vocally, but either way it’s epic
Thank you
I really appreciate that you always give your opinion and are honest about how you feel about the music you are listening to.
OMG this was awesome but I also understand what you are saying stand in your truth and I will stand with you.
You're amazing! VoicePlay are amazing! I'm a Home Fry but these guys are great.
Holy crap your face must've matched mine when I heard this and the how DEEP his voice goes. Holy....crap!!!!!
Exactly, what the??????. Thanks for the reaction!
Eli (the bald one) has an amazing range and has sung with rock bands so he has the perfect voice for this. Personally i like the soulful tones in this and the adding of the violin was pure genius❤🏴
Fair enough
You still should look up bluegrass Crazy Train. 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you, and thanks for watching
Isn't it amazing that we can respectfully have a different opinion, and the world won't end!?!!🥰
@@charlottebailey1024Staggering, lol! 'Respectfully agreeing to disagree', seems to have become a lost concept for some! 🙂👍
Thank you
I can complete understand and repect everything you said. Beautiful breakdown on your part. 💯🔥💞
Thank you
I'm a big Voiceplay fan.
EXACTLY, thank you, you actually heard me🙏🏾
I like your honest reaction.
Interesting. Hadn't considered that. Thanks.
They were building up to Eli's metal rock-out so it'd knock your socks off when you got there. :) Great reaction!
Thank you, and that very well could be
Great reaction video. I love your face🙌
I loved their proformance and your reaction.
Thank you, as you heard, I give J None his props, it’s one moment in one song, this man is still great!
🙏🏾
I have been a Metallica fan since the 80s and i can tell you, as a metalhead, this cover rocked my core and brought tears to my eyes...such a wonderful rendition of an iconic song....this is talent....salute to VP....
Your honesty is why I enjoy watching your reactions. You don't BS, you shoot from the hip. A lot of reactors out there are dishonest, and do it for the views.
It’s a slow grind doing it this way, but it’s the right way and as also an artist and producer. I’d doing what I would hope someone would do for me
I like your reaction, glad that you shared your thoughts.
I highly respect your opinions and your thoughts on this group, and all the other groups that you react to. You’re genuine and straightforward and I thank you for that. Continue being you and everybody else. Oh well.
Thank you
True, enough, J. None's voice, has its 'place', maybe Metal-Rock isn't it, but, except for a few places in the arrangement, it was very well done, Most 'reactors' have their ow 'jaw dropping' moment.....and yes, you had yours......>^^
Thank you sir
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I had faith. They did Wayward Son proud. They did this too!
That look when the Fiddle came in. Zak Brown does Sandman with a fiddle, I shit you not, on the SOLO!
Brother Michael, I went immediately and listened to Metallica's original version and was Thrilled with their rendition!!! It's hard to beat the Original version!!! Crystal Clear Vocals by Metallica!!!
I agree with you. There are not many metal songs that I like but this one has always been one that I love. Everyone has an opinion and I agree with you about everything.
Thanks, like I said from the comments I think my point was missed, I’m usually good at explaining my thoughts guess not so much this time
I loved this song when it came out. ❤
Love your reactions. voice play Has a place in my heart. Love you.
Might hold the record for longest "shocked" face by you! 😮 almost 1 solid minute.
I felt like we were waiting for something at the end that never came... right?
😅
I still remember when the original was released. I was working in a cassette/cd shop, we had a hard time keeping it stocked. I completely understand and appreciate what you said and even though I love J. to pieces, I also cannot disagree with you. Some songs are just better suited to some vocalists more than others. No wrong or right, just preference.
You need to do you don't let ANYONE tell you you are wrong with how you think
Thanks for reacting to this, Michael! I love that you're honest with your takes on the songs you react to. I think that's why I miss your reactions so much when they aren't there!
Now why can you say that and I get tomatoes when I state my opinion lol, thanks for commenting
@@WoobieHugs you are appreciated
I always appreciate your reactions! Thanx for coming back to Voiceplay, I hope to see more!
Thank you too!
My 2 cents.
I know some won’t like my point of view but it is what it is
@@DramaSydETV I am here for your opinions, and the way you present them. These are matters of taste, and I don't always agree...but I always come back!
@@iamkerok i think this is the true-ist statement ever
If you wish to react to something you might not have heard of, I would say Aesthetic Perfection with Bark at the Moon
Bless your heart!!! Your facial expressions were well worth the time watching this reaction!!! Thank you!
Not the point I was making, whatever
@@DramaSydETV then what point were you trying to make?
Thank you for the great reaction. I am a huge fan of Metallica and Voiceplay both. This is one if my all time faves by Metallica. I think they did an amazing job. I do agree that perhaps J could have put some grit in his part. Anyway, love your reaction and honesty.
Thank you
Grit is not an easy thing to add without damaging your voice unless you've done some serious training.
Bro, your opinion on point. Reaction on point. Subscribe, definitely.
Appreciate that
You are right every singer has strengths and they should use each the their best advantage to make the best song they can.
No one said copy the original, my point was obviously missed
every time Layne catches that violin my eyes get watery. you never disappoint, DramSydE. love your reactions. edit: for what it's worth, i agree with you even though i still love the arrangement, it could have been better with what you suggested.
Thanks for the info!
Yay, thanks for reacting to this! I personally like the full arrangement but I can appreciate the way you feel about parts of it. You still overall loved it! Which makes me the happiest!
Thank you
This is why I follow you. You thoughtfully and considerately give us another way to look at things. At least you affect me that way. Thanks
BUT if you havent heard the original in a while, the way it builds up to Elli makes you think "oh yeah its METALLICA BABY".
two sides of the same coin.
geoff did throat bass
Eli is a tenor
J. None is a baritone
Layne Stein is a beatboxer and also play violin
I agree with your opinion. I can respect each piece for what they are, each accomplishing their unique musical goals in different ways, and I adore VP, but yeah.
🙏🏾
🙏🏾
Since you asked LOL Yes thank-you, I agree with your view on this.
Again I wasn’t making a comparison
Always Glad for an honest opinion. I agree also about people judging a work like this without having any idea of the source material. Not really a Metallica fan but I agree with your reaction. I do however kinda like this but as I said... Will be watching for your next reaction.
I love your honesty! I have listened to a lot of reactions and I appreciate wat you do. Keep it up!
I appreciate that
Love both versions - thanks for the honesty - keep up the good work
love this reaction it perplexed me in places too, but still very much enjoyed how it turned, n yes i'm an older person, but I can tell that while the original is extremely epic , the work put in here does make it an excellent cover ...honestly who would even consider doing it in accapella , and appreciate it foe what it is.
Great reaction! Love to hear many opinions, not just one sided.
I appreciate that!
Favorite Metallica song?
Has it changed over the years or stayed the same?
Orion is great but in terms of fun playing I’d have to give it to Disposable Heroes
I really appreciate this take and I can see how you got there (especially since I'm thinking we both probably heard the original when it first came out)
I always felt like the original was one of Metallica's more melancholic songs and why (for me) it felt like J None's more soulful parts worked.
Wtf ???
Incredible !
👍👍👍🇸🇪😎💕
In my case, i seriously dislike Metallica and the original of this - makes my ears and throat hurt. But THIS one - makes me want to listen to the original again just to see how they got here from there! Love your reactalysis.
Ok this is random but it made me laugh-so I'm gonna share what your comment did to my brain (and I'm just going to say, in my defense, I've been at home sick for a week with little to no human interaction... And this is just how my little weird brain works.
It it has nothing to do with your whole comment or the song but when my brain saw the last word of your comment it interpreted
reactalysis as a potential medical diagnosis...
Grit. That's exactly what was missing. It was beautiful... but maybe "too pretty"?
totally agree with your review.
(I thought I’d put down how i ended up looking at the song, but I went and got a little long winded… you all can totally ignore me, I just get over excited sometimes and I like respectful discussion.. sorry. Thanks again for the reaction)
Honestly I was REALLY hesitant to listen VoicePlay’s version of this song BECAUSE I hold Metallica so close to my heart, and this song means a lot to me.
They could’ve capitalized on J None a lill more.. but over all… they did the song 🎧 justice
maybe they will make a version of this song .. the way that you have described ..
I love your facial reactions!
Thank you
When I first heard this song by Voiceplay, I had not heard the original.
