  • What a difference! Upgrading the new Rampage version from Haiboxing (HBX 18859 1/18 4WD RTR RC Car Monster Truck) with metal oil-filled shocks, front metal universal shafts (with real wheel nuts) ... and well, let's shine it up with a new body too.
    The HBX 18859 was kindly provided by Haiboxing, free for review and tests. They did not provide any links to the exact products in the video, but I managed to find a few (non-affiliate!) links on Amazon (although I cannot guarantee it is the exact same products, so check before you buy):

    It's staggering, the difference in the car, a set of 4 oil filled shocks makes to these little trucks!! My son has the HBX16889, and I ordered the shocks at the same time as the car.
    I also ordered the cvd shafts, and found the same issue, in that the rears don't fit.
    I think the issue is down to a slightly smaller bearing on the rear hub, and the shaft can be made to fit by taking the cvd apart, and either machining, or as I intend to do (not having access to a lathe!!) put the shaft in a drill, and use a file to remove one of the steps off the shaft and allow the bearing to sit further back. I've seen this done on another channel, so I know it works, and shouldn't take too long. 👍🏻
    The difference is night and day, fitting those shocks, and the slo-mo shots really show it. Great video, as usual. 👍🏻

      Hi Rob! Yeah, got the shocks for the 16889 too. Also some shafts. I think I actually got the right ones for that one (everything was sent to me from HBX so I had no choice) 😅 Well, before you start drilling: (non-telescopic) cvds or universal axles are often causing problems in the rear (in my experience). The issue is that the angle of the axles are often more radical in the rear than in the front - causing the axle to bind and shake etc. That is why you see models equipped with universal axles in the front and dogbones in the rear. Well, if the angle isn’t too steep of course universal axles both front and rear are better. But I know that HBX produce metal wheel axles that fits the stock rear dogbones. If you can find them cheap that might be a better option. Just a thought. But if you can make the ones you already got fit and work that is of course a lot cheaper. And the project is often the reward itself 🙂 Thanks a lot for watching and the interesting comment bro

    Hi, thank you for the video. I just upgraded the shocks and it is great. Do you know if it is possible to upgrade to larger wheels? Specifically if I order the 16889 wheels? Since you have both models have you tried using it's larger wheels on the 18859?

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching, bro. Ahh, that always depends on the off set more than the size. I suspect there will be plenty of room for larger wheels/tires, but I can’t remember if they use the same hex. Been too long since I last took these ones out. Maybe it’s about time again now.

    Ah yes that did the trick. The stock springs look rubbish although it is a cheap car though to be fair. I wonder why those rear drive shafts don't fit? Must need a different hub? Anyway great vid my friend :-)

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, very cheap so stock ‘shocks’ are okay for the price. Yeah, I think Haiboxing send me the wrong combo. The universal axles are only for the front. Thank you, Pete!

    Are there other shocks compatible with this rc? The ones you linked are unavailable atm😕 this is my first RC

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could measure the stock shocks (from hole to hole) and see if there are any other good choices on eBay or elsewhere. Many other oil filled shocks for 1/18 or 1/16 trucks and buggies will probably fit this one.

    Goddag, Mikael! Good job, the oil shocks are so much better, and look great too. I'm much happier with the running of my 18859 now that I have done the same upgrades - just a pity the new axles don't fit the rear. Anyway, take it easy, mate! :0)

      @NordicRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Uhh, comment 2 … I was hoping it would get better, but apparently not. Still crossing fingers though. But thanks for the effort, Mark. And yeah, much much better. And yeah, the axles are only for the front. And anyway, universal axles in the rear can cause issues with angles and binding. I noticed that Amazon has metal wheel axles for the rear, that work together with the drive shafts. But saving my money for my Tamiya addiction 😅 Take it easy, my mate.
