    "I think we have a bit more speed than the Chevrolet DPi. I think that's a slightly older DPi car, I think. I don't know anything about these cars. I'm sorry."
    Okay, I'll fill you in. There's really no such thing as an "older DPi car," because that formula was only around for one generation from 2017-2022 and the cars didn't really evolve that much if at all in that span. The only major change I can think of is performance tweaks to try to separate DPi from LMP2 when they were split into two classes from 2019 onward. The car SPeeDBEAsTx is driving is a true Daytona Prototype, but one with several enhancements over the spec that was run in the Grand Am years, changes that were made in order to boost the performance of the DPs to the level at which they could compete directly with the LMP2s of the time (and also the DeltaWing) in the same class. In reality, these improvements went too far and made the Daytona Prototypes OP. They could now brake and turn about as well as the P2s, and they had a clear straight line speed advantage, at least early on. You could not pass them on track. The DPs ended up with a final win record of 25-6 vs. all other cars in their class in that early unification period of IMSA from 2014-2016, even sweeping every race of the 2015 season (in the prototype class, not overall). You may have noticed both of the Daytona Prototypes in the Forza Motorsport series, both the Corvette and the Ganassi Ford-Riley, are from that 2015 season.

    • @longbowxmkii

      If my memory serves, most of the DP advantage was from low speed mechanical grip, as they were less reliant on DF and had more mass
      That also had the effect of making them really quick on restarts, as they could bring the tyres up quick
      If the race was green for a while, the LMP2s had the advantage. But this is IMSA, so that rarely happened lol

    Watching you hugging the bottom of the banked oval was painful. lol
    The Cadillac doesn't like the curbs because of its race suspension and the ground effects underneath the car. If the car gets lifted slightly, it acts like an airfoil and upsets the car. The suspension on those cars are basically non existent compared to the cars you usually drive, so if you upset one front wheel with a curb, the entire car suffers for it... which again, upsets the underside aero.

    • @chevypower22350

      But the fast way around is to hug the bottom of the oval. Watch the Cadillac's pole run for Daytona this year.

    • @swordmonkey6635

      @@chevypower22350 High bank ovals are made to allow cars to turn without losing speed since physics allows them to "stick" to the banked track where on a flat surface turn of the same degree, they would have to slow. That's why you see cars up on the ovals during races instead all trying to hug the bottom of the track. There's the shortest way around a track (bottom), but it's not the fastest.

    • @chevypower22350

      @swordmonkey6635 that's not why prototypes high up on the oval during the race. They overtake the slower cars on the outside because they are so much faster they can make the pass and slower classes usually take the preferred line. Throughout the race if there's no traffic the GTP's will be on the bottom of the banking. That is the preferred line on the banking.

    • @swordmonkey6635

      @@chevypower22350 Watch any banked oval race. The higher up the banking, the faster a car can go. It's the balance between the shortest distance (bottom) and fastest maintained speed (high up). It's the only reason the track is banked: for maintaining high speed. It's physics.

    • @chevypower22350

      @swordmonkey6635 that only works on progressive banking tracks where the banking gets steeper the higher up you go. Very rarely will you find an oval with consistent banking where the high line is faster. I promise you I have watched plenty of oval racing and pretty much every other type of racing there is. Clearly you know more than the professional drivers in the Daytona 24 who are staying to the bottom of the banking.

  • @whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306

    Seems you need another lap for any wins. But being you can get a podium perhaps with more practice wins are possible without an extra lap. So close. Literally seconds.
