I absolutely love that Home Front album. Feels like early U2 meets Sigue Sigue Sputnik in a frozen 1982 Soviet Russia. Without being a punk or hardcore album, it manages to give us some absolute hardcore new wave anthems. "New Face of Death" is exactly what Dennis claims: all the cheese of some early Glen Danzig Misfits lyrics, throw together in a mess of new wave torture. Missing album: Paint it Black - Famine

Great list, I've got lots to check out now. The Hives album is indeed great, I think it might be my favourite of theirs since the debut. It's just so much fun. I think my favourite punk/hardcore for the year is the new Ett Dödens Maskineri album, but I also really liked the new albums from Closet Witch, The HIRS Collective, and Protomartyr (and got to give a mention to Vännäs Kasino too of course 😉).
Dennis, if you haven't yet, check out to the Norwegian band Weight and their latest release "Violence of the divine", technically it came out in late 2022 but it has such a nice early 90's NYHC vibe. I dig Zulu too, but this album really takes the cake for me. Vocals (and lyrics) are just great, that last song is memorable.

I recommend Pain of Truth, Never Ending Game, Mindforce, Drain, Restraining Order, Exhibition, Knuckle Puck, Scarab, Fleshwater, Koyo, Judiciary, and Fiddlehead. I may be leaving something out. 🤣🤷♂️ Still a great list! Turned me on to some new bands! Love it!

Mutant Strain - Murder of Crows was my top for the year but I am biased because they are from here in Charlotte and they bring some serious intensity in their live gigs. I love Chain Whip and still need to pick the new one up. Good to see The Hives back. Will check some more of this list out.

It's like they listened to the Aglio E Olio EP by the Beastie Boys and decided to turn everything that's there up to eleven. Woah, I had no clue that The Bots and Zulu share a member. They were so good opening for you in Tilburg. Three that were on my list that I didn't see here are Drain, John Coffey and Ploegendienst. Fuck the gatekeepers and fuck the conservative "punks". Now and always.
@@Dennisdeepcuts very strong return Dennis I fully agree with how it went so alpha metalcore in 90/00s totally heartbreaking... but these new bands, you can feel the true punk/hc spirit oozing out of them Was an American band called Gouge Away played our venue few years ago that totally blew me away as well Oh lastly, a northern English band Benefits put out a record called Nails, that was incredible... bit more electronic/noise/poetry... but super impactful Anyway, really enjoy these episodes!!
I am from 70’s-90’s punk in California. Fudgie raw vibe. Raw seems better to me. Maybe less produced. How do kids today stay raw with social media beating them down. Social media controls too much. If my band played today, would have none of it. You’re on top of this and forged a lot of ground for you and other bands. How does the new angst view social media?
Your presence is more important that you may realize. You’re all the way over there, I’m here in California, but you are the one echoing the voice of punk in the canyons. I don’t have that voice anymore. My neighbor Rollins doesn’t either. Punk needs a good modern rep. My man…you’re it, like it or not. I’ll pass your Chanel on.

Poison ruin and Chain Whip have been in top lists of many. Strangely old bands like Rattus and Terveet kädet made excellent return records in 2023.
