      A lot of the roundhouse kick comes from the rotation of the upper body so yeah haha, all you do with the legs is chamber, pivot, and extend the leg really hard

    • @baldieman64

      Jarrod7755 And for initial teaching of beginners, it pays to get them to extend their weight forward over the supporting foot so that they learn to hit with their whole body weigh from the get-go.
      Once they're doing that, you can teach them to thrown it dynamically without over extending.
      Breaking the habit of kicking with the ass hanging out and just the leg swinging is a PITA.

    I'd love to train with Rogan. He seems like a great instructor who will tell you when something is good and tells you when it sucks. He is not into building up your ego, he is into building up your skill set. Why is he always out of breath? Maybe because he has been training for hours. He fights and trains with the best in the world. I would feel comfortable in saying, he can easily kick 99.9% of the UFC viewer's butts. What he does in his private life is his business. I appreciate him sharing his knowledge. Every time I see one of his videos, I have to go train. He has a side kick and spinning side kick that GSP asked him to show him. Yep. One of the best fighters to step in the Octagon, asked Joe Rogan, to teach him a technique. So if GSP respects the guys talent and teaching ability, I would say that endorsement is good enough for me. Also, he is an Eddie Bravo 10th Planet Black Belt. I wish he could talk his friend Eddie in opening a school up in Valdosta, GA. This is the martial arts waste land.

    Great tutorial, shame about missing the footwork for those who are beginners.
    Without correct footwork it is very easy to injure your own ankle, knee and hip.
    Your support leg must pivot, so the starting position of the support foot the toes would be facing your opponent and as the kick makes its impact the toes would be facing away from your opponent. Once you retract the leg back after impact your foot then pivots once again and you end up back in your stance, toes facing the opponent. Hope that helps any complete beginners 🙏🏻

    Did Hapkido for almost 8 years. I was taught to NOT follow through. The way we were taught was when executing the kick, stop, recoil the kicking leg and bring that leg back to where you will be in your original fighting stance. We were not allowed to follow through, especially do a full circle follow through, because our back would be exposed and open for a vicious counter.

      the toes of your grounded foot should be pointing outside of the opponents gate as if you are aiming to kick throw them and finish the motion after your leg has passed through the target. In a muay thai class they will encourage you to be on the balls of your foot. This is my preferance. In karate or at least in my experience of it this is discouraged while kicking.

    Can I explain how to make the strongest possible thrust kick here? My thrust kick is my strongest forward-facing kick, always has been. Since he's still healty enough to do this right, let's see how strong he can thrust kick.
    Isshinryu thrust kick:
    The heel is the weapon. The leg comes up and you push your buttocks forward into the kick as you extend the leg for maximum power and torque. I can thrust kick a 225lbs standing water bag and make it fly about 10 feet across a room I've walked it off before in the dojo. This is from standing guard with no running start. Combining a thrust kick with a windmill block becomes what we call "combined submission/striking" and we pull the opponent down into the thrust kick or a knee strike from a potential front wrist lock position. Kicking opponent repeatedly results in opponent tapping out or verbal submission.

  • @Epig420
    @Epig420 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason Thai guys drop their hand is to generate more torque, typically they will always tell you to move the hand in front of your face to block their vision and protect your head but kicks are scored alot in Muay Thai and punches are scored low so they will typically just sacrifice technique for power so you get leg blasting matches, but the correct technique is always hand out but on a straight line covering your face or going towards the opponents head

    In a thai style the heel of his support foot would point towards the opponent/target, reiterating what Joe said about following through, this guy is anticipating hitting the pad so he looks a little off because it seems his supporting foot is at best, toes pointing at 10 o clock,not 6 o clock to the target, different styles, ones a leg kick, shorter range, hands up style, other is longer range.

    One thing we was taught was with planting the foot then pivoting your heal towards the target to initiate the motion of the kick. It open and lines up your hips to drive through the target. It's something I see missing even up to pro mma. fights.

    • @jackbauer4186
      @jackbauer4186 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many pro mma fighters don't have a fundamental Karate or TKD base that would have drilled those foot and hip and knee positions over and over and over as a beginner. They are basically just doing what they need to have a full arsenal to fight mma. Alot of them even come from grappling where they have had virtually zero funafmental work. They are playing catchup and they just need something that halfway works to get into the cage.

      Super late response but do you ever get opponents who will just aggressively shoot in and flurry at you while your kick is still being sent? it can really jam you up and you often loose visual on them for a moment trying to dodge the flurry after if they’re serious about eating up your real estate. Also I can say from experience getting hit solidly a second after someone jams up your kick is doubly disorienting as just getting rocked. you get rocked while youre already stumbling 😅

    That's a power roundhouse, where the knee is lower. He needs to lift his knee higher to do a proper roundhouse. Higher the knee higher the kick. The kick should not involve the toe area hitting the pad. That's a recipe for injury. Further up the foot is the correct area of contact. Black belt TKD.

    If you step in close enough, you can use the dropped hand to grab onto and pull the person more into the kick.

    • @MorsoVallanKumous
      @MorsoVallanKumous 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And risk getting countered while your hand is dropped , nah id rather keep my hands up

    • @rudolfogar1886
      @rudolfogar1886 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MorsoVallanKumous it doesn't matter what there doing to your dropped hand when your shin is drilling into them. I'm not debating which is better, Im stating why the Thai people drop their hand while round housing, because in Muay Thai, they have gotten used to keeping their opponents stationed while throwing devastating hits, whether it is during the opponents attack or on this case, being held in a trap. The dropped hand keeps them stationary for a split of a second which is long enough to make contact with a kick. This is much the same concept with the clinching.

      @@rudolfogar1886 you make zero sense. Drop your hands, enjoy getting punched in the face.

    • @rudolfogar1886
      @rudolfogar1886 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomasbeall9069 it is in mid kick. Leg is longer than the arm. A round house beats even the jab every time. You just need to read, instead of being an arrogant asshole. Plus, the culture that founded muay thai practice dropping the same side hand while throwing throws kicks and like I said, it's too trap. It's not that hard to understand. Maybe you're just mildly illiterate.

    Do try this at home kids.. never kick with your foot instead of the shinbone.. your shinbone is the sword that needs to cut through it.

    how do you avoid bruising on shins?

    • @filipdebesche9613
      @filipdebesche9613 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You dont, really...
      You can wear shinguards of course, but this is a very destructive technique that, to some degree, will always hurt the user as well as the victim. However, if you practice them a lot, your legs will get used to the strain and you will even numb your pain receptors (as well as scraping the hair off the front of your shins).
      Gotta practice lots though ;-)
