The story of his dad hitting his shins is EXACTLY how I gained the same habit growing up😂 I’m glad that I wasn’t the only one who had a crazy dad like that🙏🏾
@@markusflavor1949 Oh, yes. Absolutely! The way he is doing it is the most gradual, safe and I am still doing that. But when I was a kid, my dad who was a sensei would have us break sticks, branches, boards and stuff over and over again. The shooting pain on some of the breaks was intense! Especially when failing to break and knowing that I had to! A initial piercing pain locally, from the point of impact and then a radiating pain that lasts for several good seconds. Clench my teeth and go again! Interestingly is that after smashing enough stuff and breaking enough stuff, the area gets numb and hard and very warm. Same with fists (used to condition our fists and forearms as well). Fists would end up staying clenched for a while. However the end result is that I have never had any issue striking someone, something hard, never actually broken a bone in my life (needing a cast), survived receiving strikes from stronger, bigger opponents etc. Also a bonus is that quite often when others strike me, they tend to hurt themselves hitting me. Especially when I check kicks or block with my forearms. All that being said, as extreme as my dad used to be, recovery is vital! We wouldn't do all this conditioning non-stop. @@ChrisKsan if you would advise someone starting from scratch would you say do this for how long and how many times a week, unfortunately don’t have a bag at home was going to start with the stick
@@Xtreme_Volatility For someone really starting from scratch, if I'm going to assume someone who doesn't train regularly and isn't quite fit, I'd recommend to start a routine of running first. At least 15, 20mins run per day, do some jumping jack's combinations, squats. The impacts from running, jumping and the loading of the legs promote good bone density and good combined with squats variations (own body weight), good muscle structure. All of this needs to be paired with decently balanced diet and proper rest for optimal results. After physical and mental effort the body always needs to rest in order to heal from the strain. Once fit, start rolling a piece of broomstick on your shins to condition your skin and surface nerves. Roll it, rub it, until one day (varies for every person) it becomes manageable or even comfortable. Depending on your pain tolerance, at any point of this stage, you can also start to lightly hit your shins with a stick, even a broom stick. Do this regularly, repeatedly, daily. Again, allow for proper sleep to recover and if you ever overdo it, hurts when using your leg, putting weight on it, carrying stuff, going up the stairs, dial it back for at least a week or stop the conditioning altogether for at least a week. Bones need to heal too. Now if you don't have a bag, there's several things you can do: Buy, get an old SH tire, fix it in place somewhere you can strike it. At first, you can pad it with some cloth until your skin and muscles get used to impacts, then you can strike it without padding. Don't need to go overboard, no need for maximum power right off the bat. The key to the whole process is consistency and rest. Light to moderate strikes in sets, daily. Also as a tip: whenever you are bored, stressed or whatever, find a stick and tap on your shins. When you feel more comfortable with it all, you can go to the woods or gather some sticks and boards and challenge yourself to brake them on your shins. Do this once a month. Again, consistency and rest are key. Mess up the rest or the diet, overdo it and you can hurt yourself unnecessarily.

No its all wishful assumption when you associate Jesus or anything or anyone as a god or a part of God with God or denies God's existence you will meet him ??? The facts stand against this mythological notion. This exact notion is precisely what he was up against and spent his whole ministry service fighting it during the time he was working with the lost sheep of Israel to remind them of taking none other than God as their God and to worship only Him associating no other thing with God as god or lesser god or even any image with God and to do righteous deeds as he was doing them to attain success. Used to play Lacrosse so I thought my shins would be strong due to all the years getting whacked but I was so wrong. Recently started Muay Thai and I realized how weak my shins r cuz I’ve never thrown a kick in my life until this point. Appreciate the tips I’m for sure going implement them into my training.
Aaarrrggghh - PTSD. You banging on your shins brought back flashbacks of when I did forearm banging in karate class. Oooh, the pain. The memory. I recently ran across a TH-cam video of some Okinawan karate-ka doing that forearm drill and, man, they WERE NOT holding back. I had to stop the video for a moment. I could FEEL the pain in my arms.
I remember being a TKD Black Belt in the early '80s, I remember going into the Muay Thai world of kickboxing. It was really foreign to a lot of us Americans. Wow, it was so strange for me, but I learned to love it. I often wonder how I would have done in today's mix martial arts world. I had the concept of mix martial arts in 1980 after several years of TKD I went into boxing and a few years later traditional jujitsu and later Muay Thai. Initially, my desire was not to learn for sport but to be prepared for any situation in a real street fight. Those skills came in a few years later when I put the gloves down and became a cop. There is no stress like the stress of fighting for your own service weapon. Thanks for the video it brought make memories. I sometimes wish I was in your generation. I remember the days of $50.00 buck :-)
Thanks for sharing your story, some cops give the job a bad name but thanks for serving in the force and I'm glad your techniques kept you safe. I'm sure you woulda been one of the best of your era had UFC been around. If you ever get the urge to compete, light sparring might satisfy that
@@blackout.X , thank you for your kind comments. I am long retired, but I am grieved whenever I see men & and women in uniform dishonor their badge and fail their citizens. I took my oath to heart to protect and serve. I often looked for homeless people not to harass them but to buy them food. I use to love the looks on their faces when I approached them in their sleeping quarters. Officer, I am about to leave, I would tell them I am not here for that, are you hungry. I miss those days, but I am also very grateful for my martial arts training. When it was time to go into dangerous situations, I knew the fear of danger from my days of fighting in competitions and having champions as teammates. My Muay Thai training really helped me. A leg kicked looked a lot better in the eyes of the public than a head kick. Plus a leg kick was guaranteed to end the fight quickly. A street fighter never felt a leg kick with bad intentions. They are ready to be cuffed after that deal. Are you a marathon running, I have a daughter who loves to run. She actually ran the route of the first marathon in Greece a couple of years ago. I was going to train a few MMA fighters in striking a few years ago, mainly in the art of kicking. Thompson has shown that very few have an answer to high-level kicks. Sadly, my health prohibited this venture.
@@blackout.X , I do get the urge to compete, but I have some serious medical conditions from an on the job injury that would prohibit light sparring. I have a few friends former champions and competitors who are still working out, I miss it and wish I could join them. But, the injury I endured, I would do over it was dealing with trying to save the lives of kids. Your words lifted me up today, I have had a rough medical week. Thanks for the smile :-)
@@Eagle1349 Did any of your TKD skills translate well into Muay Thai? I'd like to start kickboxing but my former TKD gave me this annoying habit of kicking with the instep.
I put shampoo on my head. Then I put conditioner on my shins after. Rubbing it on with a bit of 4 by 2. Worst thing about it, is the water goes everywhere.
My school was/is big on shin conditioning especially for competitors. During one tournament as a blue belt (probably 16-ish years old), I had ended up in the black belt division due to some strange rules. The gentleman who I was fighting was a solid kicker and I checked more than one of his round kicks. During the last few seconds I checked an especially hard kick and felt just a little bit of pain but also noticed his shins were unusually soft. After the fight, he lifts up his pant leg and has foam shin pads on! He took them off and limped away with a big ol bruise. He won more points, but I felt I won a small moral battle lol.
Thanks man I've recently started dunk training for basketball and I think the amount of force that I'm using to jump is causing shin splints and making my shins in general feel weak to touch and stuff so I'm gonna use your technique especially the last one to strengthen then up real good and hey I'm not a fighter but I guess if I have to throw kick at some point I'll be ready 😄👍🦵🧹
This has helped so much with my deadlift pain. The bar would tap my leg and that'd be enough to get me out but now I can walk up and hit a rep without worrying about bruising and pain

Not if you associate Jesus Christ or anything or anyone as a god or a part of God with God as a god or parent or child or associate or worship anythinfg besides God or denies God's existence, you wont meet Jesus Christ. 100% sure except as an opponent against the perpetrators and their perpetrated lies by them over him his mother and God Almighty. Are you gonna be one of the perpetrators or are you gonna be one of the rectifiers and affirmers and followers of the true teachings of Jesus Christ?
Do you believe Jesus submitted his will entirely to the Will of God, His Creator and creator of all or Not?
Follow and believe in the religion that Jesus himself followed or are you just wasting life wishful thinking on meeting him for 100000 years and whatever. Do ypu really care for Jesus and for meeting him or are you just talking out of wishful uncorroborated assumptions?
No its all wishful assumption when you associate Jesus or anything or anyone as a god or a part of God with God or denies God's existence you will meet him ??? The facts stand against this mythological notion.
This exact notion is precisely what he was up against and spent his whole ministry service fighting it during the time he was working with the lost sheep of Israel to remind them of taking none other than God as their God and to worship only Him associating no other thing with God as god or lesser god or even any image with God and to do righteous deeds as he was doing them to attain success.
Follow certainty. for truth is certainty is reality is absolute , everything else is conjecture assumption relative ...

Everybody gonna be watching this video after the chris weidman fight
LOL me
Sane I thought I'll never use low kicks
Hahahaha is that why this shit popped up in my reccomend?
That was a bad one jeez when he stepped back onto his broken leg
I came here after conor vs dustin. Lmao
When in doubt,
And you want to win,
Don't mess about,
And start dinging your shin.
I absolutely love that you're reading the comments and making videos accordingly. I knew you would teach me something knew but i really wasn't expecting you to do the same thing to your shins as people do their cricket bats. Keep making great videos Wonderboy, you have earned my subscription.
This is great training for MMA, it builds bone density and pain tolerance! 🙌
I wonder would it help with other bones? I have knee issues and might give it a try.
Master Bates Definitely not good for knees, cus they are more complex than just bones. Best way to help ur knees are warm ups, stretches and range of motion exercise
@@masterbates6463 Buy some rubber bands and start doing hip strengthening exercises, it did wonders for my knees. Strong hips will keep your knees in better alignment and take some of the load off of them in all activities, sports or otherwise.
@@Mrraerae Thanks for the advice, Penguin. The problem is my knee was basically destroyed in an accident 5 years ago so I'm trying to find creative ways to improve my condition. I'll do anything to avoid horrible surgery.

The Accountant. That's the movie, right?
Yep
great film
Roland P. Yes sir
@@WonderboyMMA hi Mr. Thompson
@@WonderboyMMA ay Wonderboy. I enjoyed your last fight. You went into a dark place to get the Win, so i see it as a big level up from the previous fights. I'm looking forward to seeing the new you in your future fights. Nice one.
I'm pretty sure the movie you're talking about is The Accountant
Thank you for this video! I practice gojo ryu and we condition a lot with a combine. It really does help alot. I enjoy watching your videos, and the way you fight in the UFC. Thank you for keeping karate important to young kids! Best of luck brother!
Hope your journey is going well! From lacrosse to muay thai is really cool! Your footwork is going to be very good!
Who here after the weidman vs uriah hall fight?
I was ready to puke after the crute fight tbh (need to google "how to condition your calf nerves")

Stephen you are literally my favorite fighter ever
Are you a Freemason?
@@Eagle1349 Did any of your TKD skills translate well into Muay Thai? I'd like to start kickboxing but my former TKD gave me this annoying habit of kicking with the instep.
I put shampoo on my head. Then I put conditioner on my shins after. Rubbing it on with a bit of 4 by 2. Worst thing about it, is the water goes everywhere.
“You can do all the conditioning you want, but you can’t condition that shin of yours” - Cody Garbrandt

How would you train if you die?

The accountant 😂 and while watching this I’m conditioning my shins!
I cought the Accountant refrence instantly, good refrence.
I like this guy. He's humble yet proven extremely dangerous. 💯
Yes!
Dudes so wholesome! It's so cool how he interacts with fans on his channel noone quite like wonder boy.
The accountant 😂😂 slipped it in I feel it
Movie: THE ACCOUNTANT(BEN AFFLECK'S)
8:22 Tony Ferguson: "Hold on im talkin wonderboy"
Thank you I'm struggling with this in camp right at this moment. You remind that as fighters we still aren't super human, unfortunately.
Conditioned shins are also amazing when moving furniture and for jobs where you can use leg contact for mechanical advantage.
Check out Knees over toes guy, brother
You know this video is gonna gain more popularity after the Chris Weidman vs Uriah Hall fight!
And ofc this video is now in my recommended list. I wonder why?
This has helped so much with my deadlift pain. The bar would tap my leg and that'd be enough to get me out but now I can walk up and hit a rep without worrying about bruising and pain
Hes referencing The Accountant! Its my favorite movie of all time and the whole time he was doing that I kept thinking of it. So funny. I love this guy!
I will love to see how is your cardio training, specialy how you run hills :D
😂😂😂 I was thinking about that movie the whole way through. “The Accountant” Ben Affleck.
Thank you! This is as very helpful. I thought I was being dramatic about how bad the pain was when I was throwing kicks but now it makes sense, conditioning.
Jogging really far will help with this too along with endurance.
Thanks Stephen, just what I needed to show my students.
Im from the old school brother, im just kicking trees in my yard
Tong Po taught me everything I need to know about conditioning my shins.
bro was kicking the corner of a damn cement post
It is literally impossible to condition bone.
@@TBDF12 wrong , you stress it enough you will cause millions of micro fractures which leads to nerve damage and less pain as less nerves
@@teddyjones3652 your bone is not conditioned you just hurt them so bad you killed your nerves. In that case your bones would be weaker and you'd be unable to feel them so you're going to not know if they are hurt until it's too late
@@TBDF12 bro if you’re going to talk on the subject it would take you 5 minutes to research it and then find out that the micro fractures actually make your bones STRONGER , and yes it is conditioning
