Yep, almost certainly what happened. Yeah it's from Warcraft 3 Reforged. It is probably an artifact from me recording in 60 FPS and replaying at 30 FPS, captured some of the weaker visuals that were meant to be played faster.
Not so hot: The pathfinding VS WC3 still makes the units appear completely lobotomized, like trying to run against water and not realizing there's a land bridge 5 feet away, or running straight into trees instead of going around them. 😂

Fair enough, and yes they did change it by Warcraft 3. I only knew because of the artwork in the manual. She is admittedly hard to make out in the original sprite since it has so few pixels, takes some imagination I guess haha. Thanks for the comment!
Even so Warcraft3 ruined Warcraft, not because the game was bad but because it led us to WOW and we never had a new rts game afterwards in the Warcraft lore.

Preaching into the void isn't the best idea when it comes to Blizzard. Damn, I remember having such high hopes for this company when they developed Heroes of the Storm only for them to release the damned Fenix last in the order, giving his place away to nonames like Qhira and Orphea and some unwanted additions like heroes from Overwatch. They had like 10 years to do that, very anticlimactic. They didn't even bother to hire Bill Roper to actually voice this character.
that would have required some actual designing instead of just feeding the old game data to the AI for the upscale. all the additions to the game combined aren't worth even an expansion but just a literal patch to fix some early mistakes of the design like 4 unit control limit.
I see why they may have "censored" the water elemental in this way because it doesn't really fit what Blizzard considers to be acceptable today, but I feel like you're absolutely right about everything else.
He's right about this too. Someone needs to function as Nozdormu at Blizzard, and disallow changing the past. We can see what Blizzard finds "acceptable" these days, like a gay succubus called the Incubus, which was inserted into Classic WoW. Again, where is Nozdormu when we need him to protect the timeline from these Sodomancers?
I played through both campaigns before checking out videos online about them, I would not have known about the tall pixels if people hadn't said anything. It looked fine in game imo.
Understandable, especially if you weren't familiar with or at least recently familiar with the original. While it may not render the game unplayable, it is just as strange as stretching a 4:3 video into 16:9 or taking an anamorphic widescreen film and not applying the anamorphic lens, thus viewing a squished in 4:3 image instead of the intended ultrawide view. Is it a matter of preference? Not really. It is possible to not really care, sure, but the taller look is the intended and correct look of the game.
Never knew about the water elemental and I just recently realized that the spell far see is a landscape in a dark circle, I never understood why it is a head of an orc with a cape :D
As long as they update the game, I think its fine, but if they do not, then it is not fine. I would like to see multiplayer. My friend and I tried to play together on an old version and could not do it on modern stuff. Also, I like making maps in Warcraft 2, so it would be a nice edition to have world editor. It doesnt have to be much, just make it like in Warcraft 2. For its time, it is enough to put your imagination and in some way tell a story and make a fun map. Also, there are a few problems that bug me. When you look at a daemon upgrade, it says that allows summoning water elementals for conjurers. Another one is invisible units. If you have health bars turned to always show, invisible units will have their health bars shown and thus you will know if invisible unit is coming. Again, as long as they update the game, I think it will be fine, but if they do not, then it is not. Also, I like to see someone make Warcraft Orcs and Humans content :)
Agreed, we are a couple of updates away from this being really good! I also wish we had a map editor! Warcraft 2 style WE would be great. Interesting additional bugs that you pointed out, the invisible units showing their health bars is a funny one that should be easily fixed. Thanks for watching and the comment!
I must disagree a bit with the artwork thing. I like a few of them quite a lot, and some are even very clear, though others are indeed eh. The Water Elemental is... eeeeeh, but honestly, I remember being very confused as a child as to what the Water Elemental sprite actually was. It looked pretty blobby to me back then too, even if more details can be picked out with scrutiny in the old one vs the new one now. That said, it's kinda... like, I do see the same form in the new one, kinda, it's just... bleh? And yes, I saw the manual back then too, but the Fire Elemental was also meant to be a beautiful lady (missed a "hot or not" opportunity not using that one instead of the water elemental, it'd have been a pun) and ended up as whatever it is/was, so I didn't know what to make of the Water Elemental. Still loved em though. My main "Not" right now is... spellcasting. If I select two Clerics and hit "H" for "Heal", neither Cleric heals! I have to select a single Cleric! This actually hurts with the control groups, because if you have a Cleric control group then you can't really use it for healing purposes! It's infuriating, even if it was like that way before (and I'm not sure it was). Also, I'm fairly certain that some things had different names. I have a distinct memory of Cleric's attack ability being called "Holy Lance" or "Burning Lance" or something, and maybe I'm misremembering, but right now it's just: "Attack" I think. Misses some flavour, is all. That said, I'm enjoying it. I've had fun with the Human campaign so far (almost done), and then I'll move on to Warcraft 2.
Yeah some of the art has potential! And the original art is very blobby for sure, not a ton of detail to get through with that few pixels I suppose. True, I should have worked in the fire elemental for the pun haha. Absolutely agreed! Missed quality of life improvement for sure. Great! I'm beginning my playthrough now. Videos coming soon!
The intro video won’t even play for me anymore. I’m glad you mentioned it here, because it confirmed I wasn’t crazy, that I did see it the first time I logged in!
Yeah! It played the first time I started the game up and I couldn't believe how bad it looked haha - I was able to load it from the game files where it is uploaded as a webm file alongside the movies.
1. Multiplayer. Let's try out what War3 did and maybe even expand it to more than two players if the code allows it. If this is doable, then a map editor would not be that far behind either in theory 2. I badly need the animated graphics for the breifing screens and the maps. It seems like you and me both had different priorities skewed: You really wanted the tall pixels which I thought was important but really paled in comparison to the briefing screens and other notions of auxillary animation that was peppered everywhere in the game. These things all showed a sensitivity to the graphic and sound design of the overall audiovisual feel of Warcraft, and classic Blizzard were great at it. And also the beautiful, yellow scrolling font. No transparent dark containers in the background. 3. Since War2 already demonstrated it with recent patches, it begs the question: would it be possible to commit to game rebalancing? Could it be possible to make Grunts the powerhouses they are in War3 while Footmen more cheaper and numerous? This would add a lot of interesting tactical approaches, but this only makes sense if the multiplayer is set in. War1 is already quite closer in its ludic philosophy to War3, since it emphasises micro usage a lot more than War2 does. I already see War1 in many ways as a predecessort to the design philosophy of War3, so this commitment to balancing it to be closer to it might be interesting. 4. This is for lore nerds like me mostly, but I wish there was more to the story than just what lies on the briefing screens. Maybe an auxillary mission descriptions, maybe dramatic voice line readings, but these things weren't really present in the new War2 either. But still the War1 storyline feels too vague than what it should be yet on the other hand there are things explained in the "Chronicle" lore book that I did not like in respects to how they interprested the story of War1, so that may be a good thing. Just - something to make the story reading better. 5. Only HERE do I now wish the sprites to be better. You're right about the Elemental and I balked at that.
1. Agreed! The War1gus mod has 8 different player colors and a map editor. I've played a 2v2 multiplayer match via that before. Would be nice to have it in the remaster! 2. We just got the briefing screen! Only the first part though, still missing the maps. Also missing the victory and defeat animations. 3. A balance patch would be interesting, but would require a lot of work to implement. Surprisingly, WC1 is probably a bit more balanced than WC2 was. 4. The Warcraft 1 manual has some good backstory. It would be cool to offer both the Human story and the Orc story from the manual as maybe a new cinematic with a dramatic reading of the story taking place. 5. Yeah, hopefully we can get some tweaks to the graphics. Thanks for the comment!
very good video. what I also dislike about the newer version is that you do not have any feedback when executing an action apart from the audio feedback in form of unit response. I mean like some kind of "x" or the tile box flashing or whatever.
I like the remastered music but they should have re-done the sound effects and voices, even if they are different. Also re-done cinematics would have been nice too. They can release it as a DLC to cover costs, I would pay as I grew up with this game.
It's probably the reason, but... I don't really see the problem? I haven't played the games, but I think there are basically no women involved in the game anyway, so taking away one of the only recognisable women seems like a step in the wrong direction?

Missing one of the biggest problems with the game. The difficulty is now broken due to the modern mouse controls. Playing through the Orc campaign, once Warlocks are available, all you need to do is make a few of them, build a spider army, double click one of them and swarm the enemy. As an example, this completely breaks mission 10 which I completed in a few minutes and was a tough mission in the original IIRC. That's what happens when you tweak one part, it affects everything else. While I appreciate the modern mouse controls, the lack of changes to the missions/resources in the campaign has sadly messed up the campaign. I'm sure the same is true on the human side.
@@Robtech yeah, I'm going to recommend that they add an option for 4 unit selection and the original mouse. They just added my tall pixel request today!
@@mickcraftgaming Needs balancing again. Reduction to 2 spiders over 4 per Warlock might help or reducing their HP. Anyway, it's not going to happen as it would be a lot of work. Enjoying playing through Warcraft again after almost 30 years, but it's not up to the standard set by C&C Remastered. Edited first comment, it was mission 10.
I know only having one town hall was in the original game but wish they would allow another so I don’t have to send my workers all the way across the map to mine for gold
Question: Does attacking a point work in any way similar to Warcraft 3 or Warcraft 2 BNE? Do the units attack anything in their sight until getting there or do they only respond to getting attacked?
As far as I can tell, they primarily just respond to being attacked. Units on move command will ignore being attacked and just keep moving, so that's the advantage to using it. Attack command also works fine while selecting an individual unit or building.
This came out of nowhere but I've been enjoying it. Out of homage to the original I agree each "NOT" needs to be remedied including the Water Babes. I noticed some other small things like crosses missing on shields, animations missing their rhythm and the original color pallet dulled a tad on some tiles. You hit the biggies.
The fact that they forgot about the tall pixels and scrapped all the little animations tells me this is just another cash grab. Old Blizzard would have painstakingly remastered every last aspect of the game with their legendary level of polish…this is just pathetic in comparison.
Hello Shadi! Happy to see you comment here, I'm a big fan of LoreCraft Designs and the work you are doing! I'm decently familiar with the World Editor, long ago I spent long hours trying to make my own maps and cinematics. I haven't used it as much lately though (I did make the cinematic used in the interludes showing Dalaran, although the terrain was borrowed from the Hive Workshop).
Very nice video! It’s unfortunate they lost some of the old features, like the revealing campaign map. It was such a nice touch that felt good when playing through campaign. And I would have loved some multiplayer fun for sure! That said, the positive changes were enough to get me to do a new play through, so overall I’d still classify it as a win for me. An unexpected one at that.
Yeah you are 100 percent on the ball. The Nots 3 and 2 really get me. Not 2 makes the buildings that were drawn in perspective look wonky, which is going to drive anyone with a professional art/draftsmanship credential, or who otherwise knows what two point perspective is nuts. If you were wondering out the door what seems "off" about the buildings. Particularly the more rectilangular human ones. Yo, this is it! Not 3 is just laziness. Its a lack of work ethic. I can confirm for you that those animated table side, mission details segments could have been comfortably animated by a working artist in a week. Not 4 bothers me too. Artistic fidelity matters, making weirdo sexless character designs is a trend and an embarrassing one. The D2 Remaster John Cenazon and the reaction to it by mentally healthy sound people should have been a wake up call but its clearly one they missed. The only thing I can promise you is that artists did not go to art school so they can draw bible studies approved character designs, these decisions aren't being made by people swinging pencils or drawing on tablets. Someone is standing behind them screaming "Make it more fagautistic!!!" and Not 1 is to dumb for words. Lacking the features of the base game means it shouldn't be billed as a remaster. I think there was a stronghold cash grab that did the same thing and that was a deal breaker. It remains unbought for that reason. At the same time, the 5 Hots are all valid. Frankly a unofficial WC1 remaster was something I thought I was going to end up making myself some day so i'm overjoyed to see these buildings and units 21st centuried.
Thank you for the detailed comment! I'm glad you liked the video. Yeah, the more I hear about it from animators and 3D artists the more I find it dumbfounding that they didn't include the animated backgrounds. Feels like a really rushed project. I'm glad Blizzard did add the Tall Pixels in, one change in a promising direction. I'm hoping we get multi-player next!
I prefer the first warcraft. In the first game all my units are Orcs or humans. In two we got more units but , it forces you to play as a Acient Soviet Block vs a Stone Aged Nato.
I'm still not a fan of how when you click "A" and move to attack anything in sight. The pathing and targeting is still off by quite a bit. I've had archers/spearmen ignore something that my melee units are involved with. I guess I could solve that by grouping, but I've just basically cheated my way through the game and make nothing but archers, and laugh now as I come in with 24 of them, and decimate the map.
I loved Warcraft 1 which made me love Warcraft 2 even more because it was such an overwhelmingly awesome upgrade in all ways (which came out only a year later!!!!!) You’re dedicated
@@adrienestevez6350 seems to be. What I think is happening is the UI doesn't have room for it so that selection is appearing below the UI panel. Either need a scroll bar added or the spacing to be fixed.
Agreed! If they fixed even just the top two I'd be quite happy. Definitely very lazy, especially when compared with the remasters of Doom & Doom 2, Quake & Quake 2, and the Age of Empires series - all of which have great remasters in my opinion.
Always saw only swirl on WE icon. And sprite always looked to me just like blue ooze/sludge spitting its projectiles. New sprite is just the same ooze/sludge.
Honestly the cinematics were a huge bummer for me. I'm *guessing* they no longer have the original files to re-render them but like, those things were such low quality to begin with that I feel Blizzard's cinematics team could whip out a new version that kept the spirit of the original but didn't look like a blurry mess in a couple days. The lack of animation on the menus too was just straight up lazy. And yeah, the water elemental feels so dumb to me. I get maybe they wanted to be P.C. and censor it but they could have just put a bra on her or something. Honestly my other complaints are mainly just control enhancements they didn't make. Stuff like allowing you to cast spells with multiple units selected, queuing for buildings, etc. I wouldn't have said no to a slightly slightly less terrible AI too :3 I get some aspects they may have wanted to stay true to the original feel of the game, but at least the spell one feels like a huge missed opportunity.
Yeah someone pointed out that the Quake 2 Remaster had the cinematic completely remade from scratch and that someone probably could have done the same for Warcraft in a single weekend. Sad that we didn't get something like that! Agreed - I think she could have remained and in a subtle enough way that it doesn't mess with the rating of the game or anything haha Definitely agreed on the spells - super micro intensive to multicast spells in this game! Thanks for the detailed comment!
Everything I said on social media, you said it better, although nobody knew that because of the DOS 16bits pixels that the water elementals were sexy aquagirls. WTF... Blizzard why censor a good moment of the RTS? water elementals in WC3 are more like what the blobs look like in the remake, just like it was with the Anime magicals girls Helfs or Belfs sorceresses in the WotLK version that seemed to not give it a new model, just like the Blademaster samurai that we will never see in any Warrior spec, wtf... something that I never liked about Blizzard's censorship through a retcon.
@@mickcraftgaming I forgot that you forgot that they didn't include a map editor, there are things that the same WC1 remaster would have been very useful for the new audience but without changing many things from what it was in 1994.
I disagree about the remastered soundtrack, it sounds very odd to my ears as there is no option to emulate different sound cards or sound canvases. I'm used to hearing the soundtrack on a Roland SC-55. Also I don't understand why they shrunk the minimap for no reason, the audio in the cutscenes also sounds worse.
This is a great point actually! I wish there were different render options for the soundtrack. Same thing with the graphics, the GOG release includes various filters that are absent from this release. Bring back the big minimap Blizzard! Thanks for your comment 🙌🏻

Yep! If you check my video on "the GPU fix" I explain how I'm doing it. The game is appearing with tall pixels on my monitor and then for the video I have to add a transformation to the image size.
As much as i appreciate playing wc1 remaster, it's just sloppy work. Some portraits of units just look wrong and dumb; you can clearly see that AI upsacling went wrong there. my best example would be necrolyte, who just has some kind of red paint as eyes. also there are just errors in the game, which show how unserious this was taken. for example; read the description of researching the summon demons skill of warlocks: it says conjourers will learn summon water elemental. that's just sloppy.
Yeah this definitely needed a lot more work. I'm guessing it was an afterthought to the Warcraft 2 Remaster and they probably rushed it for the 30th anniversary release.
This made me sad because it feels so lazy. None of the Blizzard staff that made this game are still there and it shows. Compare it to the CnC remaster that the OG Westwood crew. It was a passion project for them, this feels like they threw a young team at the project that had no love for the game. They may be so young the game is older then some of the devs.
These Warcraft remasters are duds when it comes to game preservation. They replaced a lot of the immersive menus with static images... They should just release the source code and assets and let people with actual passion for the games cook.
Fair enough! I wish they'd give the option to select how many units you can select. People that like 12 could select 12 and people that want the original 4 should be able to select that.
Queuing and waypoints would be cool! The War1gus mod for Warcraft 1 includes that. I debate back and forth on changing the controls too much. I personally care about the tall pixels quite a bit because I'm particularly sensitive to videos being stretched, can always tell when it is off, and I think they should render the game in the correct art style.
If Blizzard remastered the game better then they wouldn't be able to reremaster it in 15 years with more of the features they left out. Maybe they won't be so gay then too and will update female characters in a not weird proper way.
Diablo 2 : resurrected was a very good job and Warcraft 3 : reforged was bad as hell ! I just remember WC 2, but the work in Warcraft dont look so great for now and I fell sorry about the game. My hope now its a patch in the games. GG mate.

😂😂🤣🤣 the complaint is about the HD graphics, the water elemental is just a prime example of that complaint. The old unit sprite is in fact a woman, as seen in both the concept art and the icon.
To be honest, let's face Blizzard totally don't care about its games anymore. I think they upscaled the images in 1 day, made a new background call it a day.

Heroes of the Storm was very promising. Sad that they wouldn't bring Bill Roper back in!
I would of loved a map editor.
Oh I can't believe I didn't have that in my list actually! Absolutely agreed!
that would have required some actual designing instead of just feeding the old game data to the AI for the upscale. all the additions to the game combined aren't worth even an expansion but just a literal patch to fix some early mistakes of the design like 4 unit control limit.
I see why they may have "censored" the water elemental in this way because it doesn't really fit what Blizzard considers to be acceptable today, but I feel like you're absolutely right about everything else.
Thanks!
Is it really a remaster when they remove and censor stuff? Honestly, I think it's a no-buy.
Some things are good, but so far there is enough rough things that I'm really wanting a patch to feel good about it.
There are ways to get it. Try it, see if you honestly like it 🏴☠
i totally agree with your takes about the game, for me one big miss oportunity is the option to rebind hotkeys on the game. i mean even SC:R have it.
That would have been a simple yet useful update to include! Patch it in Blizzard!
Never knew about the water elemental and I just recently realized that the spell far see is a landscape in a dark circle, I never understood why it is a head of an orc with a cape :D
Haha yep! It's fun the little details that can be found
As long as they update the game, I think its fine, but if they do not, then it is not fine.

1:40 comparison between remasters and war1gus (or wargus for wc2) would be interesting to watch next.
Yeah that's a good idea! Thanks
1. Multiplayer. Let's try out what War3 did and maybe even expand it to more than two players if the code allows it. If this is doable, then a map editor would not be that far behind either in theory
That kind of feedback is definitely important!
Looks brilliant! Does it come with a map editor?
No map editor yet, hoping that's something that will come in the near future
@@mickcraftgaming Here's hoping!!

I'm glad you found the video helpful and thank you for the comment!
I like the remastered music but they should have re-done the sound effects and voices, even if they are different. Also re-done cinematics would have been nice too. They can release it as a DLC to cover costs, I would pay as I grew up with this game.
Great ideas!
What costs? They did almost nothing and ask 10$ for it. At least they should fix it for free xd
I think the water elementals got changed so they dont get into controversy because when the original got released they were diferent times
I could definitely see that being the case... wish they'd have kept it as is though!
It's probably the reason, but... I don't really see the problem? I haven't played the games, but I think there are basically no women involved in the game anyway, so taking away one of the only recognisable women seems like a step in the wrong direction?
it's definitively an AI problem, since the elemental got a womanly face on the icon. Blizzard just doesn't care.

Hey I love that old art I was wondering if maybe you can comment on some old art for vid maybe.

Yeah! I'm actually planning a read through of the original manual at some point.
@@mickcraftgaming Damn, that's kind of a bummer.
Hopefully we get a fix! Thanks for the comment.
Are farms roofs and plantations out of proportion / perspective?
They do look weird... but I just overlaid the original sprite with it and it seems to match fairly well... not sure why it looks so off though
wow the retro graphic on widescreen looks so much better than whatever AI upscaled art they used on the remaster
Yeah the classic graphics look great to this day.
I think it's why the remaster was done quietly. It really falls short. WC1 was bit better in improvements than 2 though.
Agreed
The fact that they forgot about the tall pixels and scrapped all the little animations tells me this is just another cash grab. Old Blizzard would have painstakingly remastered every last aspect of the game with their legendary level of polish…this is just pathetic in comparison.
Absolutely agreed. Tons of mistakes in Warcraft 2 and 3 too! And now, pulling the game from Good Old Games... sad state of affairs.

Hello Mick,
I'm Shadi, Co-Founder of LoreCraft Designs, I'd like to ask you if possible, how familiar are you with World editor and triggers?
Glad for the wins of the remaster and hopeful for patches that can fix these negatives!
What about the GOG versions of WC I and II, have you talked about them? I couldn't find a video.
That's the version I did my playthroughs on, but that was the only version at the time so I did not make a special video. More on that soon!
@@mickcraftgaming Oh, ok. I'll check those videos out then. Thanks!
@@SrSacaninha you're welcome!
Someone is standing behind them screaming "Make it more fagautistic!!!"
and Not 1 is to dumb for words.
I like that comparison for Warcraft 2, too true haha
I'm still not a fan of how when you click "A" and move to attack anything in sight. The pathing and targeting is still off by quite a bit. I've had archers/spearmen ignore something that my melee units are involved with. I guess I could solve that by grouping, but I've just basically cheated my way through the game and make nothing but archers, and laugh now as I come in with 24 of them, and decimate the map.
Yeah target acquisition during A move is ROUGH in Warcraft 1.
not #1 and #2 are big deals. The no animated victory/defeat screens are really a big shortcoming of Remastered wc1 and 2!

If they fixed the stuff you mentioned I would consider getting this. I feel it just lacks for a remaster and was a lazy take.
Fair enough, which is what I'm guessing they saw too. It is the woman though believe it or not!
Agreed - I think she could have remained and in a subtle enough way that it doesn't mess with the rating of the game or anything haha
Definitely agreed on the spells - super micro intensive to multicast spells in this game!
Sad to have a good thing washed away!

Warcraft style should had been more 'realistic-fantasy' vibe...
Agreed, it started out there but then slowly slipped away
This made me sad because it feels so lazy. None of the Blizzard staff that made this game are still there and it shows. Compare it to the CnC remaster that the OG Westwood crew. It was a passion project for them, this feels like they threw a young team at the project that had no love for the game. They may be so young the game is older then some of the devs.
Crazy to think that the devs were younger than the game, but probably true
It shows how fat and lazy Blizzard has become

Fair enough! I wish they'd give the option to select how many units you can select. People that like 12 could select 12 and people that want the original 4 should be able to select that.
@mickcraftgaming it wouldn't be so bad if they updated the ai to accommodate so if you had 4 units or 12 the difficulty is the same
I wouldn't expect blizzard to update it any further, looks like a nostalgia cash grab to me.
I'm still keeping a modest level of hope - we actually just got the animated briefing screens today!
only not that i wanted was queuing and waypoints. who cares about tall pixels
