This is a dumb comment. It is perfectly logical for a dumb company to keep making dumb mistakes. That is what I see here, there's no malice, just gross incompetence on just about every level. The only malice I can assume is that €40 pricetag, that is just f'd.
Part of my problem is ... I really don't want to give that company my money. Maybe there is some day a game will come out to change my stance but these aren't it.
The last 2 Blizzard hits were Overwatch (OW1 ofc, not the monetization overhaul patch called OW2), and D2R. Other than that it's been a pretty shitty company since Activision bought them.
Just uninstalled the launcher after experiencing so many greedy releases from them. No reason to return to games riddled with monetization and no hard work.
FYI, the original WC1 and WC2 are available from GOG for cheap. Not sure what their deal is with Bliz, but I doubt Bliz gets much money there. Plus you actually own the game, no Bliz launcher, and no future Bliz changes to ruin them.
I don't think it's that much about trust. It's about people putting more value on nostalgia/company loyalty than on actually informed purchases and acknowledging the fact that your favorite company might just not be that cool anymore. People have devoted their lives to Blizzard, a lot of people, it's a hook bro, it's a part of a lot of people's lives and routines, it's like walking a dog. Sure he may be a bit snarky or w/e after all those years, but it's your mutt, you can't just leave him on the side of the road because he pissed on your floor a couple of times, right? Another thing is sunk cost fallacy, folks have spent so much time and money on this fucking company that it would be seen as nothing more but waste and a defeat, if they were to just up and leave. I speak from experience too, because it took me years of not actually having fun in WoW anymore before finally loging off for the last time at the end of Legion, to have this realization that I'm just logging in because I have mundane shit to do, not because I'm having a good time.
They could have at least allowed people to still buy/play the original version of the game instead of "upgrading" everyone to the unfinished remake. Microsoft are still selling Age of Empires II on Steam despite the Definitive Edition being sold, they're even asking for less money for it.
What sucks is that the modding community is miniscule because Blizzard now owns all of it per their EULA. They can't even pull a Bethesda and let fans finish the game for them.
it's also worth mentioning the Azeroth Reborn campaign on sc2 which allows you to play the entirety of the WC3 campaign in sc2 for free and it is so much better quality than reforged since the SC2 engine is just that much better than WC3's
@@algumnomeaihehe it's definitely better for scrubs like me who don't know anything better than A-moving (Warcraft 3 has a unit selection limit, SC2 doesn't).... not that that's a good argument... ._.
@@algumnomeaihehe have you played sc2? It's the hold standard of rts that even after 14 years not a single game has come out that remotely has better patching and unit controls
That's how I'm playing the WC3 campaign for the first time. It's so much better than the control groups of 12 max. That's why I also play the Mass Recall remakes of SC1 instead of the remastered one. It's a horribly dated mechanic that I can no longer stand.
I think it's funny how one of the reasons given is that Blizzard isn't "willing to invest in a big enough in-house RTS team" when that's literally the first team they had - and it was one of the best in-house RTS teams in the world. Team 1 was the RTS team. They made Warcraft, they made Starcraft. But the team was gutted, and people were fired or relocated to other projects. That's one of the reasons we now have Stormgate: Acti-Blizz didn't want to "waste" time on RTS games since they're not as profitable. I dunno, it's just funny that they pissed away so much talent only to outsource like crazy to make up for their own screw-up.
To many managers just dont get it. The name doesnt make the company its the people in said company that makes or brakes the company. And Blizzard still doesnt get it. Gutting your talent cause of expenses and then be suprised that the cheap contractors or interns make a shoddy product.
Indeed. Blizzard had the money, resources, and talent to make Reforged a success, but they threw the talent away after they failed to make Reforged good with the limited resources and development time that the higher ups decided to gut. Team 1 had a solid track record of high quality games under their belt, but one single failed product was enough to destroy Team 1 that put the name Blizzard on the map in the first place. Letting a couple of junior developers run what is by far Blizzard's most important game to date, WarCraft 3, is just pathetic and sad. I really hope Stormgate is able to turn things around and become a hit by the time 1.0 launches next year, since it would be perfect karma for the injustice that was the closing of Team 1 after gutting Heroes of the Storm, StarCraft 2, and WarCraft 3 Reforged.
Blizzard figured out that they could make an in-game store, and sell horse skins for €20 with absolute minimum effort, which would earn them more than RTS games - such as SC2. We, the playerbase, killed Blizzard's RTS team.
So true. But somehow they had a teeth about the WarcraftEditor since the MOBA style emerged from it. While the whole point of the Editor was specifically to let players try game editing for the sake of the gaming industry.
I used to play Warcraft3 a lot. It was actually one of the first games my brother installed when we got our first PC. Over the years, I would came back often to at least play custom games. But I never touched the game again after Reforged came out. As for Blizzard. In the past I played all of their games and sunk lots of time into WoW as well. It was quite a painful journey to see Blizzard transform into what it is today. But it's been many years since Blizzard became a joke, so I'm not surprises. I don't remember the last time I heard any good news that included Blizzard and I haven't touched any of their games. The last time I played. I guess it was 4 month of playing when wow classic came out but not since then.
Same. Uninstalled their games after reforged and never touched a Blizzard product again. Their map editing tools got me into game design, dammit. The Blizzard that inspired me died years ago.
It's not that people forget the malice part, it's that some people hyper-focus on the malice and forget the first part. The first part gets highlighted because the first part is the one that almost never gets considered in online conversations. You too, seem to know what you are doing. /s
3:57 The problem i have here is yes, they called the group of images "Gameplay concepts", but the files themselves are called "Gameplay Stills". That implies to customers they are direct screenshots taken from the game. I cant say if thats an error from the marketing team, but intent is an important consideration for me. The industry standard with larger studios of late has been to mislead or outright lie to customers and given the release state of WC3 Reforged, its highly unlikely in my mind that the marketing team would make a mistake like that and not move to fix it ASAP
Wow do people still play Risk? Everyone should check it out. I remember it being so much fun back in the day. And you make youtube content on it? Amazing!
As an sc2 modder beginning to tinker with wc3 modding, this also failed to mention how reforged and the 2.0 update also shafted custom maps. The map editor has been accruing bugs and issues since reforged with every version that aren't getting fixed. If you have multiple pre-reforged versions of the game on your system, opening the reforged editor sets a registry key that causes older versions of the editor to crash on startup. 2.0 added a new data field to game objects, potentially leading to issues with older maps not working properly. One of the first things I did when starting on my project was pinning down the version I'd work with, and I picked 1.30 (context: Reforged was 1.32~1.36, latest update 2.0). If there is one thing I wish blizzard would do, is provide legal avenues for people to purchase classic keys so they can download an older version of the game. It's still possible to legally download, you just have to provide your own CD key to activate and I'm not sure where I can tell people to acquire that legally when I deploy my project. And I really don't want to put up with updating and maintaining my project for the rollercoaster of reforged updates and breakages.
I've looked at a couple of reviews of this package today. Here are things I've noticed that are wrong with the Warcraft 1 remaster. They upscaled the mission briefing screen, but removed the animation. It wasn't a lot of animation, just a guy chewing his food, but it was something that livened the screen up, and they left it out. They left out the animation of the map rising up between each mission. They didn't account for the fact that the original 320x200 screen resolution was stretched on VGA to fit a 4x3 aspect ratio. Without adjusting for that, all the art currently looks squat. I do think it looks nicer in a lot of ways. I'm glad they added all the interface tweaks like right clicking and selecting more units at a time. It just seems like they took the lowest effort approach to the art. It looks like instead of actually redoing it, they just ran every art asset through an AI upscaler.
It's not just Reforged btw, it's also both remasters for WC1 and WC2. Both of them were made with AI, which isn't necessarily a problem, but it IS an issue that it's noticeable - at least when you know what to look for. It's also especially noticeable in the promotional art. It's also the fact that they didn't openly disclose that they used AI. If they were honest I think the backlash could've been smaller. But of course, they didn't disclose that.
I got so fed up with all the bugs in the latest Warcraft 3 patch (including characters who simply aren't there anymore in cut scenes, and items like claw of attack +6 still being broken) that I found a download for the last Warcraft 3 patch before Refunded butchered it, entered my license key to play it, and it's just SO much better then Refunded.
I miss the days when Blizzard had the “it’s done when it’s done” mentality that produced games with unparalleled quality and attention to detail. Now it feels like a they just throw things together as fast as possible. Just throw on a fresh coat of paint, meanwhile behind that is popsicle sticks barely held together with hot glue and fishing line. No care at all…they just want fast cash.
Back in the early 2000s they said they want to revisit WC3 one day and complete the Arthas vs Illidan fight and actually make a real cinematic for it. Been waiting for 20 fucking years for that cinematic, will end up being made by AI probably
Ai upscaling is letting a braindead coworker do the art before the actual art team has to play copy editor. If you never planned to put the effort in in the first place, all it does is overwork the people who could have probably done it right the first go.
Just give me the fucking original Frozen Throne version back. Revert all of these stupid reforged updates. I never asked for any of this. I just want the game and the online systems to work the exact same way they did when I bought the game.
I hate these half baked remasters. Heroes of the storm has INCREDIBLE Warcraft models. They look amazing and stay true to original artstyle of Warcraft 3. That's how a remaster should look like.
Blizzard have money to make Demons Souls level of remakes, and then remake those remakes to make movie level of graphics in those remakes, and still have more money than god himself. But they just... Dont. Because they dont care. They hate gamers. And gamers should understand it.
They also fucked up the aspect ratio - most images shook uld be more square, because the original game was stretched as well (making the icons more square than what they are now).
I may have used a third party key, but I did manage to get the original Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne so I can at least play the campaigns like they were originally developed. I may not play WoW but it's interesting to look back on how we were all interested in an mmo version of an rts style game based on the lore and characters.
The great thing about my PC is that it has a DVD drive thats sat in it since I originally built it in 2015. Besides keeping a backup of the game files, I can just pop the disc into my PC if I for some reason need to. WC3 Reforged is complete and utterly irrelevant to me.
In the 2.0 update Blizzard updated the environment art of Reforged (which in itself is a good thing), so I'm a bit optimistic that maybe some Microsoft money could enable Blizzard to continue improving the rest of the Reforged models (read replace those models) over time. Microsoft have shown a lot of love to the RTS genre in general when it comes to the Age of Empires series; maybe some of those development teams later on can assist with Warcraft 3 Reforged? My gut feeling tells me that the work of Warcraft 3 Reforged is far from done, that the 2.0 update was released now in its current state because of a deadline for the Warcraft 30th anniversary event. Like the 2.0 update is a foundation of whats to come. The community have provided a lot of feedback of what works & doesn't work in terms of new art. A half-baked Warcraft 3 Reforged taints the Warcraft IP in general as WoW still is active & generates profits, so it might be of Blizzard's interest (at least under Microsoft's umbrella) to eventually get Warcraft 3 Reforged in a state that the community would proudly accept & recommend.
This leaves out some important details about new bugs that make the game utterly unplayable for a lot of people. Reforged already had a lot of these that were never fixed, and 2.0 came out and added way more of these. For example, older maps and custom games simply do not load models at all. No unit selection, no hitboxes, no gameplay. They are just utterly broken, and no fixes exist in the settings menus.
Sidenote: One of the tweets complaining about AI-upscaling. Important thing to take note of: Warcraft 1 and 2 specifically cite updated, hand-painted artwork. Warcraft 3 does not. Warcraft 3 simply says the old assets were up-rezzed to HD.
Guy complains about misleading marketing material, but then runs an ad that nonchalantly talks about 100K developer salaries as if that's what people could expect from using a gamified learning website light years behind the skills you actually need.
Actually surprisingly easy to hit $100k within a year or two. Takes 3 things: 1, live in a major city (one that people in other countries would’ve heard of - NYC, LA, Chicago, SF, Boston, DC). 2, be the type of person who’s capable of advocating for yourself. 3, recognize that you have to continuously work on your skills (until you retire). Most people won’t do any (not shaming) so they don’t get far… but the average level of “skill” in the industry is bewilderingly low, and most people won’t make any personal sacrifices until/unless they’ve been paid for it.
@@Tokyodb lol very few people in dev, especially web dev make $100K, especially now the market is saturated with juniors that only need to know how to set up a render server and make two react apps. You want to make 100K? You have to learn data structures and actual computer science and then apply for FANG for a position 1000 other people are going for.
This is just double dipping. We should have at least gotten the WC3R we have now back then, and then serious effort put in on remastering WC1 and WC2. The lack of budget is completely depressing.
Lets be real it was rushed out for 20 year/30 year anniversary. But i have some hope. The guy who's in charge of the RTS team as small as it is seems pretty committed to it. Additionally I've already seen a small update for Warcraft 2 I didn't expect to see as fast as it was. On launch day none of the intro music during the mission introductions is playing while the voiceover was playing. They actually fix that the next day after I complained on Facebook. Microsoft cleaned house and I'm sure this was an arbitrary deadline based on the anniversary of the games. Let's just see what happens from here. You can see that there is intent to make the remaster a good thing. You can see that with the 12 unit selections for both Warcraft 1 and 2. It's a huge quality of life Improvement and was completely unnecessary. But it happened
I picked up Reforged over a year ago when it was on sale super cheap. I don't remember the exact price but it was under $10. The update isn't as much of an improvement as what's needed, but it's something I guess, considering everyone thought it was abandoned.
Warcraft 3 was 40$ in Canada when it came out, nothing was 50 or 60$ back then. On sale you could get it for 25-30$ Back then prices were normal, 60$ was already insane
Should have made the other 2 remasters free for the people who originally bought reforged. Now thats an apology. I honestly dont know ehy anyone bothers eith Blizzard anymore. None of the founders are even there anymore. This isnt the same company that made the Classics.
The macos version was broken for a month. They said it was fixed, it wasnt. We waited another couple of days, then they said it was fixed, it was fixed for some But the menu interface is still extremely choppy and if I alt tab out and back again the cursor disappears 😢
Hits so damn hard for me. I still play reforged almost every single day. I have played WC3 almost every day for 22 years.I don't play the RTS side of WC3 it is 99% Custom games. ALL Blizz had to do with reforged was update the graphics, not touch the story line, Add some modern features to multiplayer, and release a full Dev pack for custom games. Multiple games like DOTA and Legion TD where berthed from WC3 Custom games and grew into stand alone games, DOTA growing to be a full blown universe. There is so much damn potential that was robbed from this game, replaced with a shitty version of the storyline.
They didnt start it in the first place. Thats why i hated how they treated Wc3 in 2018 and once Reforged released with 2020. Its abhorrent. The idiot as an art lewd ruined the game, their laziness and cost cutting made them cut corners and rujn the menues and take away things we had for 2 decades irreversibly, i have no respect for blizzard and as i swore in 2018 i will never give them any of my money.
I just think it's funny that companies like Ubisoft, Sony, and BioWare can shit out horrible products and take multi-million dollar hits and keep trucking, but Blizzard can't just take a hit to make a good HD remake? Make it make sense..
my peg-legged friend brought me a copy on the low. i haven't tested it, but it has been shipped and arrived safely through the seven seas. that's all i can do for blizzard.
Wtf happened!!! UI, grapics and performance just got fucked with the patch. Give me back reforged?! I might be alone in this but it was great(not at launch)?!
The amount of people praising Blizzard for 2.0 and the half a$$ W1 and W2 remasters is disheartening to me. It's been 30 years and this bare minimum remaster of Warcraft 1 is all we've got? We should have a Warcraft 4, and a remake of Warcraft 1 by now with all the new story and lore changes they've had with WoW. Hell, I actually thought they'd launch a Warcraft remake when the movie came out years ago. But they didn't.
custom games are now broken and inviting my friends to an already started lobby isnt easily done anymore... what the hell are they doing? it just keeps getting worse.
If they would put money into Warcraft, maybe they could dream bigger and make Warcraft 4. Translate WoW story from classic to WotLK, with the game ending with the fall of the Lich King, and there, we have a game that will sell million even if they fuck stuff up.

That is what I see here, there's no malice, just gross incompetence on just about every level. The only malice I can assume is that €40 pricetag, that is just f'd.
You know full well that the 90$ mount probably generated more cash and manager coke parties than all the Warcraft game up to WoW Vanilla
Part of my problem is ... I really don't want to give that company my money. Maybe there is some day a game will come out to change my stance but these aren't it.
Good games can't make up for atrocities.
The last 2 Blizzard hits were Overwatch (OW1 ofc, not the monetization overhaul patch called OW2), and D2R. Other than that it's been a pretty shitty company since Activision bought them.
@@TheLuceon naw. No reason to ever give them money.
I am still amazed people trust Blizzard this many times in a row lol

Giving blizzard benefit of the doubt is actually wild.
What sucks is that the modding community is miniscule because Blizzard now owns all of it per their EULA. They can't even pull a Bethesda and let fans finish the game for them.
it's also worth mentioning the Azeroth Reborn campaign on sc2 which allows you to play the entirety of the WC3 campaign in sc2 for free and it is so much better quality than reforged since the SC2 engine is just that much better than WC3's
>the sc2 engine is much better than wc3s
Calm down.
Are we really surprised by Blizzard/Activisions bullfuckery at this point? 🙄
If they still have that silly agreement where "We own your custom maps", removing that might bring some people back.
100%
They're not a small indie company.
That's just the level of staffing they're down to for their products. Gotta finance those stock buybacks somehow.
If Blizz hadn't ruined their custom map modding community, Reforged could have made them a ton of money.
So true. But somehow they had a teeth about the WarcraftEditor since the MOBA style emerged from it. While the whole point of the Editor was specifically to let players try game editing for the sake of the gaming industry.
they learned their mistake as dota and it's successors came from the editor from sc2 and they did'nt profit from it.
"but dont rule out Malice.". I love how people "forget" that last part of the quote.
You know what you are doing.
You can have both at the same time. Is something that's not usually considered either
It's not that people forget the malice part, it's that some people hyper-focus on the malice and forget the first part.
The first part gets highlighted because the first part is the one that almost never gets considered in online conversations.

3:57 The problem i have here is yes, they called the group of images "Gameplay concepts", but the files themselves are called "Gameplay Stills". That implies to customers they are direct screenshots taken from the game.
I cant say if thats an error from the marketing team, but intent is an important consideration for me. The industry standard with larger studios of late has been to mislead or outright lie to customers and given the release state of WC3 Reforged, its highly unlikely in my mind that the marketing team would make a mistake like that and not move to fix it ASAP
and even the apologizer-version aka gameplayconcept is cheap. They are not showing any new gameplay, aren't they? They show new visuals.
Never expected to see myself on a Bellular news video!

It's better, but it's still incomplete which will leave a bad taste in your mouth.
If you need a deep dive Grubby goes into great detail.
It probably wouldn't sting as badly if Blizzard hadn't completely replaced/removed the original game.
@@roetheboat1 100% This
I've looked at a couple of reviews of this package today.
Hold the phone, you think Warcraft 1 and 2 look good here? They look like goddamn flash games, the original style is nonexistent. Am I going insane.
Props to Tycho of Penny Arcade for coining the term 'bullshot'.
Back in the early 2000s they said they want to revisit WC3 one day and complete the Arthas vs Illidan fight and actually make a real cinematic for it.
Been waiting for 20 fucking years for that cinematic, will end up being made by AI probably
Yeah... there's no chance they "accidentally" promoted the game using faked screenshots.
Warcraft 1 reforged took away animated mission breifings, animated map screen, and animated mission end screens.
Ai upscaling is letting a braindead coworker do the art before the actual art team has to play copy editor.
If you never planned to put the effort in in the first place, all it does is overwork the people who could have probably done it right the first go.
But using AI upscaling did great for the _GTA Definitive Edition!_
...wait, hang on....

They straight could've nicked wow classic's models and have done a better job...
Can you imagine if Blizzard put the same effort into making an actually good game as they do into pretending they're making one?
We lived that reality when many of us were teenagers or young adults; it was the standard. Not anymore, not with Microsoft or Activision.
Blizzard have money to make Demons Souls level of remakes, and then remake those remakes to make movie level of graphics in those remakes, and still have more money than god himself. But they just... Dont. Because they dont care. They hate gamers. And gamers should understand it.
The remaster of Orcs and Humans actually had a lot of it's charm removed
They also fucked up the aspect ratio - most images shook uld be more square, because the original game was stretched as well (making the icons more square than what they are now).
It's nice to see they slightly fixed a remake they released 5 years ago of a 22 year old game.
Blizzard could've hired some dedicated modder's and probably would've ended up with a very good remake of all Warcraft games
I may have used a third party key, but I did manage to get the original Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne so I can at least play the campaigns like they were originally developed. I may not play WoW but it's interesting to look back on how we were all interested in an mmo version of an rts style game based on the lore and characters.
Maybe the problem is our expectations. We are after all, expecting a different outcome despite the evidence of the last decade.
its not that they didnt finish the job. They actually broke it and made it worse.
No, they didn't finish The Job since it is still technically playable. The Job will be over when the game is truly and completely dead
Ah, warcraft 3 refunded is back at it again, and as expected from the failure that Blizz became by losing all of the original Devs, they failed
holy moly its already been 6 years
Hasnt it been like 4 years since reforged came out? Little late doncha think?
100%. It's unfortunate.
Better late than never, I suppose...
Blizzard do work VERY slowly on their updates...
January 2020... They cocked it up again. I'm not even going to try it, because it'll just fuck up my memories - no thanks.
The RTS team stands for the three people in it: Roger, Tim and Sandra

"Why couldn’t they make Warcraft 3 as perfect a remaster as Age of Empires 2? What’s Blizzard missing? They should take some inspiration."
The only hope would be Blizzard selling the IP to someone else.
On sale you could get it for 25-30$
Back then prices were normal, 60$ was already insane
Should have made the other 2 remasters free for the people who originally bought reforged. Now thats an apology.

For some reason the battle chest is not available here in Brazil yet.
They didnt start it in the first place. Thats why i hated how they treated Wc3 in 2018 and once Reforged released with 2020. Its abhorrent.
