Thank you for the nostalgic videos! It might be a big ask, but... I'd love for such a challenge run with a focus on Death Knights and Mages. I understand that's difficult, given that many missions don't grant you access to them (yet). But I love their spells and would love to see a challenge run based on them, maybe even with a restriction to the spells they can use.
I'll think about it. Honestly, I feel like Admiral Iddy's 'Warcraft 2 Deathless' series is pretty close to what you're asking for. Obviously he uses other units too, but mages and death knights are super op in this game, especially when controlled against the AI, and are the only reason most of the deathless strategies were remotely doable.
This video was the calm before the storm hits, which is trolls only. I was surprised that the transport frames surprised me again, carving path from ocean to a lake. Really interested in what would come after WC2 if its going to be an old RTS, & what type it is!.
Yep. I consider this video a prequel. Archers only wasn’t too bad, but trolls only… Even tides isn’t free, and the last three beyond orc levels are the three most challenging levels I’ve faced thus far in my Warcraft 2 series. It’s insane. I honestly have no idea where I’m going after this! I will definitely continue making videos but I don’t have concrete plans yet for what I’m going to do.
I actually go back from time to time and replay Warcraft 2 every few years. (It's just that good), I did an Archer playthrough as well, it was super busted but really cool to do. I'm glad you're bringing back War2 into the spotlight. It's a gem.
Wow, really appreciate the improved quality of the video ^_^ The background music was nice, the new discoveries and self-imposed challenges were interesting. Great work, redwings, I enjoyed the video!
28:17 you might know that by now, but in case you don't - just simply order your transport ship to deploy a unit elsewhere and it should automatically slide through the thin terrain back into the waters :) Hope that helps! Loved your video btw! War2 is one of my favourite games.
Ooh, fascinating! I didn't know that! This is the first time I've ever had this happen, and I completed the missions without getting it free, so I didn't know there was a way to get it out! Thank you! :)
Nice :) These series has definitely made the footman my favorite unit in Warcraft. That's a new development though, before I played these challenge runs the knight/paladin was definitely up there for me too.
One of the biggest mistakes was implementing a damage system then completely omitting it from the UI. They made the mistake with Starcraft as well. "A vulture says 20 but it's doing 4 to a dragoon. Guess I'll just die then." This is a non-issue for the tiny sliver of serious players, but most people who bought the games just had to deal with "uhhh what?"
Yeah, it’s crazy! I actually had no idea how the damage system worked until I looked it up as I was writing this script! It’s easy enough to intuit how units function after playing enough, and it’s easy to realize something feels a bit different than what’s stated, but I didn’t know anything about piercing damage while playing these challenges! I just knew that the archer upgrades felt really strong, and now I know why!
The vast majority of people aren't interested in the formulas, and will never look any deeper than "this one hits with a sword, that one shoots arrows."
Have you read what the upgrades do in StarCraft? Me neither, to this day i dont know what some upgrades or abilities do. Something as simple as tooltip was non existent in SC
yeah SC1 is so messy one never knows exactly the range of the nuke. And for some fkin reason ghosts in SC1 are super awful in terms of their stats...yet they have the strongest anti terran ability in lock down@@The-jy3yq
What I love is the idea that this is the timeline that explains WHY the elves fuck up so bad later; they used all their troops wiping out Draenor, no wonder they all got turned into blood elves!
I found that if you create a lot of units they can overpower the enemy by sheer numbers -- though they can easily be slain by an equal number of ogres. You can use the dragons or gryphons the same way to win a game against all units. Their weakness are arrows, however, so if the enemy figures out your strategy they will used massed archers and towers.
Khadgar was secretly an archer. Wow I am surprised the game could be beaten with archers. I guess it really was about making a death ball group and hoping for the best
Pretty much. A death ball of archers is honestly a pretty solid composition in a lot of missions. Once you get enough archers (you do need a lot for this to work), everything around the death ball just kinda dies. :)
Haha yep. The aim delay is ridiculous. It forced me to change my entire strategy when it came to destroying enemy bases. Once I adjusted and realized I needed to destroy production buildings with my death ball before moving forward to snipe peons, things worked out, but until I had that realization, enemy bases were shockingly tough to deal with. At first I was trying to play archers like I would play footmen, and it didn't work at all, lol!
To be honest. I expected more difficultly in the Tides Campaign, still, I am amazed how many mono unit runs are possible! It was a very entertaining watch I will say, the pathfinding is still proving to be as werid as it was, seriously who programmed that? And about trolls, are they actually nore challenging? I mean, the orc campaing always seemed easier. And to end it, will you do more runs after that? Maybe a catapult only? (Would that even be possible?) I do remember that a "ship only" (+ catapults) was possible for a lot of missions. Anyway, amazing content and I can't wait for more!
Aw, thank you! The warcraft 2 pathfinding is so jank. I love it and hate it so much. :D Trolls only is much more challenging than archers only, and I'm excited to start working on that video now! The last few levels of the orc campaign are absurd, and there are a few starting locations that make a few missions in Tides pretty challenging. Also the fact that I had done footmen only without the save glitch before this run gave me the experience necessary to know how to beat a lot of the levels here. I had to learn it all from scratch for Trolls only since my grunts only beyond run used the save glitch, which trivialized a lot of levels. I'm probably going to stop with warcraft 2 challenge runs after Trolls only, just because I feel like the runs get a bit less interesting when I focus on the same levels multiple times. A lot of the strategies start to repeat, and I find myself with less to talk about (though trolls only will be an exception because no save glitch essentially creates entirely new levels). I also want to make other types of videos too, though exactly what I'll do next I haven't figured out yet. Thanks for watching, and I'm happy you're enjoying the series!
@@redwings13400 Not sure if I posted but one trick I used to beat the Dark portal/ last Orc level in beyond the dark portal with only grunts, was to rush pink with the grunt heros/grunts. Pink takes a few mins to mine before he starts building units, so if you can kill their peons before then they are out of the game. I'm not sure if you can do that with just Ax throwers though. If you used the grunts/grunt heros as meat shields you could probably take pink out right away. There is like a little peninsula just past the pink guards to their base. I would run the grunts/peons there, organize the survivors, and use em to kill the peons. I found it easier than taking on teal first.
@@iangraven8948 ooh that’s brilliant! Doing this is almost certainly a whole lot harder with axe throwers than it is with grunts, and probablyyy impossible, but if I ever make a follow up video for grunts only, I will definitely try this strategy! Getting an early kill on purple would dramatically change that mission, and I know from my experience with axe throwers that I only beat the mission with grunts because of the save glitch.
this is not a challenge at all. only difficulty is indeed Tides of Darkness. Tides of Darkness first DOS version. Looks like AI more aggressive before BtDP and Bnet versions/patches. and lower unit limits = 200 (1000 in Bnet re edition). Not sure if Sega Saturn The Dark Saga version harder or not. It is better than Bnet Edition (and even wc3) in terms of controls/some features. If you a fan of warcraft rts games and did play only Bnet i highly refommend try both original dos Tides of Darkness (without addon expansion!) and then Sega version.
It's specifically hardcoded so that only Khadgar does damage to the portal on this mission. Other units can attack it, but it will just do zero damage, which is why I had to use Khadgar there. I'm still gonna pretend it was the archers, but yeah, if Alleria could have actually damaged it I definitely wouldn't have used Khadgar here.
I love War 2 and watching this video was so much fun hahaha I imediately subscribed to your channel! BTW, r u aware of the widescreen patch of War2 or do u intentionally don't use it? It is so much better in my opinion (tho it can be considered an advantage compared to OG War2 lol)
Aw, thank you! :D I heard of it from comments in another video, but I never took the time to figure out how to install it. It does look pretty cool! Maybe someday I'll try it out!
I could when i was a kid...It's funny how all the little challenges we made for ourselves in the 80s and 90s games have become youtube content. Remember all the times you'd re-create the Normandy beach landings in RTS games? I've sent Billions of pixelated men to their death...Many of them were archers.
:) glad you’re enjoying! I think I’m going to do a big finale with axe throwers only, then probably move on to a different type of video after that. Not sure what it’s going to be, and I may come back to wc2 eventually in the future, but I do want to vary things up too! I can promise you that axe throwers only will be insane, it was definitely my most interesting and ridiculous Warcraft 2 run. I’m excited to start working on this video and can’t wait to share it with you!
Once you have enough of them, that is very true. Most of my issues were either in missions where I needed to move out before I could get an overwhelming force, or just due to me going in too soon before I was ready. This was one of the easier challenge runs I’ve done on this channel, level 3 was the only one I really struggled on. That won’t be the case with trolls only, as there are a number of factors here that make this run significantly tougher than archers only.
@@ballsofsalsa01 yep! Warcraft 2 is much more macro focused, where warcraft 3 is much more micro focused with its emphasis around heroes. Combat in wc3 is very unique in the series because it generally has smaller armies with more hp, which makes each individual unit much more valuable in comparison. Other bliz rts games are much more macro focused with larger armies and units that die a lot faster.
@@redwings13400 problem is, macro focused when only grouping 12 per round and dying so fast is the reason why I never want to play SC1 ever again x_x after tasting the delicious response of SC2 with large armies but intelligent pathfinding and movement vs dragoons occupying more space than buildings randomly and bottlenecking every bridge? no ty :-x
"Protect the archers.." a clasicc. Sending archers with no scape route and a straight forward attack... well, you lose a bunch of them. But i like the only archers military unit winning condition.-
Maybe. I think I'm going to take a break from WC2 challenge runs after Trolls only in favor of doing some sort of other video (I don't know what that will be), but this does sound like it could get very weird. I feel like balistas only would be a pretty strong late game army if I were also allowed guard towers, and it might have a really hard time with naval landings, but I'd really struggle in the early game in certain missions that require immediate aggression to get a base.
That’s fair! I sped through it a bit, let’s see if I can explain it better in a comment. So every unit has two different damage values, regular damage and piercing damage. Regular damage is resisted by armor, and piercing damage ignores armor. So let’s do an extreme example. If a unit has 100 regular damage and 0 piercing damage, then it will do 100 damage, minus a targets armor, divided by a random number between 1 and 2. So if a target has 70 armor, this hypothetical unit will do between 15 and 30 damage a hit. If a unit has 100 piercing damage and no regular damage, then the amount of armor a target has is irrelevant. Armor doesn’t work against this thing, and it will always do between 50 and 100 damage a shot to everything, even if the target were given 1000 armor. In the case of an archer, their basic damage is only 3, which means anything above base 3 armor will completely ignore this basic damage. However, the archer also has 6 piercing damage that ignores armor, which will deal 3-6 damage against armored targets every shot. In practical terms, this means that most of the archers damage ignores enemy armor, so archers do the same amount of damage to everything that has armor above 3, and only slightly more damage to something without armor. The archer will do the same amount of damage to an upgraded footman as it does to a knight and even a building. Armor upgrades won’t help against it because a fully upgraded archer has only 3 basic damage, but 11 piercing damage. Does that sorta make sense? Piercing damage ignores armor, so the fact that archer upgrades get additional piercing damage is quite good for them.
Considering humans archers in WC1 destroyed everything and Orc lancers did the same I guess we can safely say Elves sucks at being archers and so does Troll axe throwers.
@@redwings13400 thank you! I'll check it after I'm done mining Legend of Legaia OST for tracks I like.... Btw thanks for explaining the muckery behind WC2 damage calculation. Now curious why target acquisition is so clunky...
I just audibly Whoa'd seeing my own name pop up in the first two seconds of your video haha. Thanks for the shoutout. Hey also, whats the song you used at 20:00? It slaps
At 20:00, I’m playing a track from casette beasts, and the next song at about 20:16 is from Celeste! I’ll give you the specifics later today when I can get back on my computer, but both of these games have absolutely incredible soundtracks!
Ok, now that I'm on my computer: The soundtrack at 20:00 is Like Chimeras from Casette Beasts. If you're asking about the song that starts at 20:10, that is Confronting Myself from Celeste. :)
Must be much easier with regenerating berserkers. Might be possible to win some scenarios without losing a single unit, just takes a lot of micromanagement: checking out for catapults, sending back damaged units until they heal, changing positions during a siege etc.
Haha Ahahahahahahahsha You are making this comment in good faith but oh my god this is so far off the mark. There’s a reason I did the archers video before the trolls video, and that’s because the beserkers are so much harder than archers! Like it’s not even close. Regeneration has its uses, sure, but the lack of +3 piercing damage combined with some of the most ridiculous starting positions makes the beserker run absolutely absurd. I can’t wait to share it with you!
@@redwings13400 I really don't think it is harder to play with them. Just need to check how strong is the opponent to make sure that guys in the first line will have some HP left until you can send them behind. Durability is more important for me than pure piercing damage. If I play with the orcs, I only use starting melee units to protect trolls until getting regeneration, then they can just stay in the village. Berserkers escorted by some catapults and/or necromancers do such a clean job. Berserkers alone still can do a proper job, just make sure to send enough of them so they can protect injured fellows until they recover.
@@blubmuz well, it’s definitely possible that I’m just bad at the game. I will never discount that theory, lol. On lower game speeds it’s also possible it’s a bit easier to micro beserkers to take advantage of regenerator, but I found that on fastest speed, regenerator just didn’t mean that much when my units died so quickly even at full health! It was good defensively, but assaulting enemy fortresses with cannon towers, ballistas and paladins was a bloodbath, the lack of damage felt very significant while the regeneration barely made a difference there. Naval landings were also much tougher for beserkers than for archers. Beserkers only was much harder for me than archers only, and I’m very excited to share the run with you (I’m writing the script now). I’ll be very curious to hear your thoughts on it once I release it, and if there’s anything big you think I did wrong to make it harder on myself! :)
@@redwings13400 Looking forward to see the new video. I wish that you will find the way to properly use berserkers. You are right that defense is easier with them than offense, but even when assaulting towers you can just take back injured units. If you don't have enough units on full health, just wait. I usually only do landing if there is some area on the map cleared off by juggernauts who obviously destroy enemy ships first. Without a navy, it definitely sounds like a bloodbath. They only can escape to the transport ships, which as well might be targeted. In that case, regeneration really doesn't help much I guess. It might be an option to land on a small, nearby landmass or lurk them to your own coast by transports to fight enemy ships first. You should avoid fighting too many targets at a time. Zeppelins can help a lot to estimate whether or not the time has come for an assault. If there are ballistas nearby, you can move a single berserker forward to trigger them, then quickly move your guys forward and hope that they will not have a second shot until they get destroyed. Anyway, when I play The Dark Portal expansion pack, I always wish there was a troll hero with similar skills as Allaria, just regenerating. That would be awesome.
@@blubmuz yep. Honestly it’s not that every level is a nightmare. It’s mostly naval landings and levels where you don’t start with a base that are the issue. The final three levels of beyond are essentially 90% of the challenge, but they are all nightmares with only beserkers. The last level has both a naval landing section and no starting base, and without being able to save in the level, that just creates absolute insanity and such a stressful experience. :) A troll axe throwers hero would have been awesome and definitely made this challenge more manageable lol
Nice :) congrats! :D I don’t think I’m going to do peons and peasants. Most levels are probably doable (beyond would be kinda absurd but mightttt be possible?) but naval landings would probably be impossible. That said, destroyers and workers only might actually work. I’m doing a trolls only video next, then I’m planning on pivoting to other things after that (not entirely sure what yet), but maybe I could come back to this in the future.
Quick questions: When you did trolls and grunts, did you play on fastest speed and ban the save glitch? If so, you're better than I am at this. I only got through grunts because of the save glitch (and haven't reattempted it), and I found the last few levels with trolls to be a nightmare. Super fun but also insanely tough. Also, how did you deal with your starting units and heroes for these challenges? I haven't been super strict about starting units, usually allowing myself to use them only to kill themselves off, but otherwise treating them as allied units that I can't command. As for heroes that I need to keep alive, I've usually been giving them a hold position command at the start of the level, or hiding them in the back of my base, basically choosing to do whatever I think makes the level most interesting. There are a lot of little things that I think could be very different with this run with slight ruleset modifications, so I'm curious how you approached the rules of these challenges and what you decided was fair game in your runs.
An archer with 11 piercing dmg is not bad even against 20 armor buildings including towers. Archer fires once for 2.6 footmen, knight attacks but they have 3,4 piercing dmg and need to get close. I think melee dmg upgrades only affect basic dmg not piercing so they cancel themselves if the enemy has the armor upgrades. If true that means blood-lusted FU Ogre Magi deals TRIPLE damage against FU paladins. Perfectly balanced. The dmg system should have been very clear. Albeit even in SC 1 it was not. Afaik in no real game the canon tower can do 10 dmg minimum........So sometimes actual minimum damage is more than stated. Also, the maximum dmg is sometimes 1 higher than stated. I think dragons actually do their dmg twice per attack.......so do 16-32 piercing dmg low chance of 1 hitting a peon. Warcraft 1 ranged was OP they had piercing dmg only and the upgrade was and they attacked faster.
Yep! I didn’t go super in to the other upgrades because it wasn’t relevant to the archer, but the extra piercing damage makes a huge difference against buildings! You’re right about the melee upgrades too, those are just basic damage upgrades. Bloodlust does in fact triple the damage from ogres because it doubles both the basic damage and the piercing damage! Bloodlust is so insanely op as a result! You can also notice dragons hitting twice because the two hits are in slightly different areas/timings, and you can sometimes dodge one of the hits if you’re good at microing. I think. I have no idea how the cannon tower works. It definitely has a minimum range with splash damage, so it deals extremely little damage to units right next to it, but is utterly devastating to everything else. If cannon towers knew to prioritize enemies further away from it, they’d be even more deadly. Blizz definitely did a much better job with the damage system ui in Warcraft 3 and sc2 than they did in their previous games. It’s pretty fascinating how many calculations are running under the hood.
Thanks for trying this out. I was among the ones who wondered about this challenge as well, after seeing what you did with footmen. 😅 Do you plan to make a run with Berserkers too?
I wonder how much easier this challenge would be if campaign levels allowed you to build walls to create chokepoints (walls aren't buildable in the campaign, right?)
Probably extremely easy, because walls are neutral passive, which means they don't belong to a player and the AI wouldn't naturally target them. You could probably cheese every level by walling off enemy attack paths. If your walls were treated as your units and the AI attacked them, they might help a bit, but I'm not sure how much. You can still wall off with farms or other structures (which is extremely useful in many situations), so there are ways to achieve the same results without the wall. Depending on how expensive the wall is (I've barely played multiplayer so I have no idea how easy it is to construct walls there), it could be really good or not super useful.
I’ve never played the original Warcraft, and honestly don’t have much desire to play it, so probably not. I’d definitely be curious to see if anyone else could though!
@@redwings13400 oh really?! I found it much more challenging than 2, because the AI comes at you in waves and makes more use of summons like undead and scorpions
@@redwings13400If you fancy the idea, there's a Custom campaign for WC3 hat remakes the units, mechanics and missions from WC1, its about, eh, 85% accurate
@@SoulKiller7Eternal I've never played Red Alert before, so while I might try the game at some point, I'm nowhere near good enough at it right now to even attempt a challenge run. Maybe in the distant future if I really like the game, but probably not anytime soon.
Dude, you chose evil, you killed non-hostile peons, try without that next time :- Could have shared the mine, its just money and they were there first, they didnt attack you when you went in and mined
On a moral level, I do not condone any actions I have ever taken during any of my videos. The footman republic and the commune of archers are not reasonable, accepting, moral societies, and I do not condone using them as role models for our own society. Even if I write from their perspective, I think its pretty clear I'm the bad guy in all of my runs xD
Mounted units (knight/wolf rider) were ok for defense, Catapults were stupid OP, hindered by non existance of the "attack ground command", and ofc, greater summons were THE busted thing
@@EMDakka The knight had the advantage of being microed and healed by the cleric. It could take a hit from a demon then microed away and healed after demon was dead. In hands of the player, demon+unholy armor was broken. I remember modding the game files as a 9 year old kid to balance the game better than the original developers. I doubled the health of the footman and grunt, removed unholy armor and gave warlock invisibility, gave spear thrower equal range, and made skeletons faster with four times health and reduced raise dead mana cost. Spiders and scorps had double health too, and lived twice as long.
Using peons to attack seems a bit cheating. Also you could have taken out Deathwing with archers (Blizzard seems cheating). You could have moved archers to attack Deathwing and then moved someone more important such as Khadgar for example into Deathwing attack range. This would have cause Deathwing to cancel attack on archers because more important target came. Then you immediately walk away and Deathwing will switch back to archers instead of tracking Khadgar because archers are currently attacking him. But every time Deathwing cancels attack he needs to prepare next attack from zero. So with enough practice you could take him out with 1 archer and 1 other unit that repeatedly moves in and out of his range. You can start with lower game speed and normal Dragon to get initial feeling of success.
I'm pretty sure I had to use peasants and khadgar on that mission in order to get anything interesting there, so I did use blizzard a few times to get up to that point too. Even if I could theoretically kill deathwing with archers, I doubt its possible to get to deathwing with just archers on that mission if you exclude peasants. Maybe its possible without using Khadgar but that would just be some absurd micro that honestly doesn't sound super fun to pull off. If you could do it though, let me know, I'd love to see it! As for peasants, I have thought about this and wondered if its cheating. Ultimately, I'm the one playing the run, and I do this for fun, so I just feel like its more fun to have their attack available as a desperation backup option. Most of the time its not necessary, but when you see me use peasants attacking, it basically means I'm pretty desperate lol. I'm going to guess that it isn't necessary to use peasants attacking most of the time (and I could have beaten the level without doing it with just a bit of better play), but there might be a few levels where not being able to attack with them would make an already tough beginning even more absurd. Using the peon attack, for instance, opens up an incredibly absurd and really fun strategy on the Tomb of Sargeras that I'm excited to share with you, that would be impossible without the peon attack. You can definitely view it as cheating, and I respect that argument. Ultimately I just decided that the playthrough felt more fun when I was allowing attacking with peasants.
@@redwings13400 In Deathwing map I actually didn't mind peasants. The idea about using them is cheating came when I watched Turalyon map. The micromanagement trick then I mentioned is demonstrated in video titled [TAS] PSX Warcraft II: The Dark Saga "Orc Expansion" by Flip in 1:10:27.57 . at time 26:40. But yes, I got to admit that pulling it of by hand is a bit tricky but not impossible. With Deathwing I would keep it for 100k subscriber special so that then at least youtube money would compensate for the lost time. 🤣 Or I would simply make auto clicker in AutoIt to take care of repetitiveness and timing issues.
@@test-rj2vl ooh, I’ll check that out! I’m not currently monetized, and have no plans to monetize at the moment. I’m aware that ads play anyway and there’s no strict downside to doing it, but honestly, I kinda really want to keep TH-cam as a hobby, and want to minimize the incentive I have to care about subscriber count and view count. I do this because I really enjoy editing videos, and I worry that if I turn it in to more than a hobby, I’d start making decisions around how many views or how much money I’d get, and I feel like that would sap some of the enjoyment I get out of making videos. I don’t know if that makes sense, but that’s my logic right now. I currently have no plans on making money from TH-cam and I’m perfectly ok with that.
Vass? Not sure what you mean by that. Though yes, i made a ton of mistakes in this run, especially early in beyond. I think it took me a long time to internalize how archers move, so for a long time I was trying to control them like I’d control footmen. With footmen, spreading out and killing all the opposing workers after getting rid of towers isn’t a bad strategy, since footmen get rid of buildings pretty slowly, and there’s significantly less advantage to having a ton of them in one place. With archers, this method had predictably disastrous results, but it took me a long time to figure that out. I enjoy highlighting the learning process and showing all the mistakes I make. I do not play perfectly, and i feel like the process of figuring out the levels is usually just as interesting as the final results.
Haha. I actually held a community poll on that because I was wondering the same thing, and I was shocked when 93% of voters voted the ranger being ok to use in this run (279 votes). After that, and after finding a lot of the orc campaign to be absurd with beserkers, I decided to allow it. It would be kinda interesting seeing if this is doable without the ranger upgrades, though, because those upgrades are extremely strong, and a base archer challenge would probably make a lot of levels much more challenging.

Thank you! :)

Impressive work! You are a legend! Archers are one of my favorite units in WC2! Great upgrades available for the rangers.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed! :D
@@redwings13400 you're welcome!
The archers/Rangers where my second favorite unit in Warcraft 2, first is the knights/paladins
Nice :)
These series has definitely made the footman my favorite unit in Warcraft. That's a new development though, before I played these challenge runs the knight/paladin was definitely up there for me too.
@@redwings13400 yeah lol I got back into Warcraft stuff recently and started playing the trilogy for the first time. Warcraft 2 was really fun!
@@ballsofsalsa01 fun fact: Ghosts usually end up nuking themselves, but with Ocular Implants they can survive a nuke launched from max range!

Excellent. Archers are definitely really fun to use! :)

You rekindeled good childhood memories, and kept my pulse high while I watched this :D Nice video! :D

What I love is the idea that this is the timeline that explains WHY the elves fuck up so bad later; they used all their troops wiping out Draenor, no wonder they all got turned into blood elves!
Hehehe yeah that checks out.
I'm super stoked you beat it using only archers! I thought for sure that they were too squishy/jank, but was wrong. Also thanks for the shoutout!

Background music is from cassette beasts for those wondering. Game has a great soundtrack.
Some of the later tracks are Celeste I think
Yep, you’re both right. I absolutely love the soundtracks from those games! I also put a few tracks from Chained Echoes in there too.
Awesome, can't wait. THANKS

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed! :D
oh man, memory lane right here. great video my guy
Thank you! :)
28:02 I forgot this bug was in the game!
I had no idea before it happened here! Absolutely insane bug!
Exalted one?
Impressive run. That pack of archers struggling to kill a couple of peons was painful to watch though. The aim delay is disgusting.
Trolls only is much more challenging than archers only, and I'm excited to start working on that video now!
@@redwings13400 You could do a Red Alert series?
lol
this is not a challenge at all. only difficulty is indeed Tides of Darkness.

35:10 not only Khadhar, but Alleria was attacking portal too, so might be regular units really can't do damage to a portal, interesting

Archers jamming hold position are super powerful.
Archers tying up Orcs with red tape and of course Alleria being the best archer in the game...
Peasant building permits are surprisingly strict. The orcs haven’t experienced the horrors of human burocracy
@@redwings13400
Peasants also know how to queue for those permits.
@@redwings13400so WC2 was like StarCraft basically? 40 hp low damage and +10hp upgrade or shield...and WC3 multiplied hit points by 10 😂
@@ballsofsalsa01 yep!
@@redwings13400 problem is, macro focused when only grouping 12 per round and dying so fast is the reason why I never want to play SC1 ever again x_x
after tasting the delicious response of SC2 with large armies but intelligent pathfinding and movement vs dragoons occupying more space than buildings randomly and bottlenecking every bridge? no ty :-x
"Protect the archers.." a clasicc. Sending archers with no scape route and a straight forward attack... well, you lose a bunch of them. But i like the only archers military unit winning condition.-
You lose a bunch, which is why the strategy is to always have more
You should try with ballistas probably not possible but still would like to see it
You mean Artillery Only?
Isn't that how the Campaign is normally played?
Ah good classic game.
:)
1:12 i feel like this was terribly explained. I kept going back to it and it still never makes sense.
Hey mom! i'm on the video!
I forgot to list one drawback of the Archer
They're elves.
Hahahaha true :)
Considering humans archers in WC1 destroyed everything and Orc lancers did the same I guess we can safely say Elves sucks at being archers and so does Troll axe throwers.
@@jeanbob1481 that....
Makes terrible amount of sense, then comes wc3, human ranged unit is good again, and its a dwarf
guard towers, on final level, npc teams have more units, & cash, you can starve them out

Must be much easier with regenerating berserkers. Might be possible to win some scenarios without losing a single unit, just takes a lot of micromanagement: checking out for catapults, sending back damaged units until they heal, changing positions during a siege etc.
Haha
Ahahahahahahahsha
You are making this comment in good faith but oh my god this is so far off the mark.
A troll axe throwers hero would have been awesome and definitely made this challenge more manageable lol
Jeez, I wonder if those 181 archers built a skyscraper with the arrows they used to destroy the dark portal.
hehe, maybe :D
Ha. I beat you to this challenge. Did it over a year ago. 😝
Already did trolls too.
And footmen.
And grunts.
Peons and peasants next 😂
Nice :) congrats! :D
I don’t think I’m going to do peons and peasants.
27:57 all these years and I didn't know you could repair transports!?
Yep! You've been able to repair transports in this game the entire time! :D
Bravo🎉
Thank you! :)
Thanks for trying this out. I was among the ones who wondered about this challenge as well, after seeing what you did with footmen. 😅 Do you plan to make a run with Berserkers too?
Yep! Beserkers only is going to be a fun one, there are some absolutely brutal levels in that run!

The knight had the advantage of being microed and healed by the cleric.

I currently have no plans on making money from TH-cam and I’m perfectly ok with that.
fun
:)
You made that same mistake ove and over map after map " but I didn't kill their barracks" Vass has something to say to you.
@@redwings13400 Vass you know from Far Cry 3 have ever told you the definition of insanity?
@@miragegaming984I haven't played the far cry series before, but I looked up the cutscene. That was quite the trip, wow!
Now do it without loosing a single unit ;D
Haha admiral iddy recently made a video of him doing that. It’s really well made, highly recommend! But he also used units that weren’t archers. :)
why?
Why not?
No, 'cuz you can't get 'em in the first level. 0/10 run dead on arrival.
For real though, good video!
RIP. I've been exposed. Guess that was a boring video. :p
you dont have to kill anyone on the first level, soooo
Invalid. Challenge was to play archers. Not rangers.
@@redwings13400 ah ok. No problem then. But yeah see if you can do it with archers and their archer upgrades only.
I don't like this video why you not use all units
I don’t really know how to respond to that lol. Sorry you didn’t like it!
They are still useless on the multiplayer scene.
True, though that’s not relevant here, thankfully
