Thanks for this. I first played Warcraft 2 on the PS1 bsck in the day and went back to W1 and bounced very hard off it because of the controls. But the remaster has really made it an enjoyable game.
@@FlinnGaidin It did- the game didn't run particularly well and the more units selected the slower the machine would run. You could literally see the frame rate drop the more units that were on the field
This is cool to see. I just completed Warcraft 1 for the first time with the remaster. I don't regret not having to deal with the old controls, but I did play with the superior original graphics. I'm replaying Warcraft 2 now :)
I do wish they had a WASD option for moving the camera, frankly. At least in the new version. I had great fun with Karazhan in the remake, trying to not lose anyone. I took ages, of course, but it was quite amusing. Just step by step movement. Very fun.
Yeah custom hotkeys would be great in general! I wonder if DOSBox allows rebinding of keys. I forgot to mention that the arrow keys can move the camera as well.
@@mickcraftgaming Yeah. Arrow keys do work, but they're just not in the place I'm used to (and I don't have the space on my desk to move everything around).
Oh, it reminded me playing Warcraft in the past, very clunky, units feel like they have 5hp and with your lowly troopers dealing 1hp per hit and no regeneration nor grappling. Camera control being surprisingly good, the right click move to is snappy, fast and works way better then many games drag'n'pan or even edge-scroll features.
@AleksanderDrako yeah the movement is quite clunky, the right click snap to center is incredibly useful though! I find myself missing that kind of option in newer RTS titles
I just wished that attack-move were kinda "remastered" in both WC1 and WC2. In WC2, Patrol works better than Attack Move. Those are kind of features Blizzard could work on in future patches.
I would love to see some kind of update to the remaster that adds better MP and skirmish support (more player slots, AI that knows how to actually build a base and not just start off with a late mission full town)
I dunno that I've ever used those region hotkeys, beyond perhaps giving it a try after reading the manual back in 1995 (and perhaps not even that, lol)
Haha for sure. I didn't even know they existed until I started taking StarCraft 2 seriously in my push for master league. They are really useful for flipping between your base and a battleground in the middle of action.
I actually thought this was going to be a strategy based video. What are the strategies? Are there some units better than others? Economic vs aggressive strategies? Cheeses or timing attacks?
@bonehelm yes there is additional strategy which will be coming later! With Warcraft 1 I find the controls are actually the biggest barrier to entry and the main reason most people I have try the game give up before finding the true beauty of the game. I figured I'd start there and move on to additional strategy later. I have a big 1v1 match coming up with one of my members, so stay tuned for additional Warcraft 1 strategy, information, and gameplay
When it comes to moving personally there is no reason to use M, using A is much more time effective since if you are moving units it's to attack even when scouting
This is so important that I find it an only reason why Submarine Titans failed - great idea, very good mechanics, but they didn't do correctly attack move making controls a hectic action even in easy maps.
Thank you for your Videos. I´m a WC player since ´95, I really appreciate your dedication to it. Have you seen that the video clips of the game before/after mission for the results and the map videos are now in the game folder , dated to 18.12.24? I really think your videos made a part Blizzard to update the Remake as you mentioned (Squarepixels and so on). Please go further, I like to see Blizzard do the work on the remaster to the fine very end. Thank You!
You're welcome! I want to make sure these games are treated well and we can keep enjoying them into the future. I think Blizzard is listening and it has me feeling hopeful for the future! Thanks for watching and for your comment.
You purchase Warcraft 1 Remastered. It's worth its price. Still not 100% sold on WC 2 Remaster, but I don't have to be doubtful anymore seeing how they pulled it off the shelves(as it were).
I got warcraft 1 from GoG before it was delisted. I plan to play it, as I never have before.
@@OriginalTwitch I'm glad you got it! I hope you enjoy your playthrough and that this video may be useful to you.

@mickcraftgaming It's been a revelation. The Playstation version of WC2 isn't talked about often, you can select an *obscene*number of units
@@colonelbarker I've been meaning to give it a try!

This is really helpful! I didn’t know about area hotkeys.
Thanks! I didn't either until I started practicing StarCraft 2

@Silence-qm3ku 😂🤣 if you prefer using the modern controls, I don't blame you. That being said, the game controls decently well with some practice.
