Aside from the terrible sound, the new 2,0 liter twin-turbo diesel in Astra proved to be a very good engine. It has amazing range of usable revs from 1 000 to 4 800 rpm, quick throttle response, linear character and it is quite powerful. With adequate gears, it makes even the heavy Astra ST (1 626 kgs DIN) a fast car, mainly above 100 km/h. Be sure to see the last acceleration on 6th gear from 60 to 200 km/h, it shows the best what is this engine about...

This is great, I love it! Opel cars are frequently very underestimated...
Check out my Astra 2.0 cdti 160hp, it's stock and goes 0-100 in some 7,5 seconds! :)
Golf mark VI came out in 2009, the same as Astra J. Golf VII came out this year. Can't compare those two. And there still won't be much difference.
The point is - despite being heavier, underpowered, with manual gearbox (but being much cheaper etc), Astra competes with Golf.

You are right - why should I have a brand new, best in class car with factory waranty and excelent resale value when it gets older, when I can have slower, worn out, 4 years old Astra :)

One thing you can't deny. The Astra is terribly noisy above 50mph.

Andrew Gallacher Yeah, yes it is. If you're buying a sporty car (ferrari, subaru impreza etc.) you want them to sound loud and good. If you don't then you might as well just get an electric one...
Check out my video. It's a stock astra J, versus a stock Golf GTD, both similary loaded. I don't care what journalists say, they are sponsored by those same brands (except these less significant ones which can be neutral).
the engine is really new after 15.000km will be a little bit faster but I think the best solustion to be fast at all is to install a race chip ti increase the maximum hp from 190 to 230 and the torque from 400Nm to 490Nm

J Bi-Turbo is 1600kg, comes from factory only with 19" or 20" and their gerbox F40 is not very good, slow and clunky + bad gear ratios...so here is your answer 👍

That is normal. When you start the car very fast the diesel gets pushed against the back of the tank, thus tricking the sensor that it might be more than it is (sensor works based on depth)

Your H has 1300kg, J has 1600+kg and from factory Bi-Turbo comes on 19" or 20" with wider tyres.

My remapped 1.7 125 hp Astray H was good for 240. It shredded the gearbox every 15.000 km's....

Also new 1.6 liter CDTİ's are designed by GM

I don´t think the most important is what is overvalued or not. The weight of the particular car is quite crucial - accelerating, braking, cornering. Can you tell me, why Opel makes such beautiful cars... but so heavy? They are killing the potential themselves. And - if you save up when buying the car, think about the petrol you load in while driving with 250 kg useless load... Astra is heavy. Full stop.

@@heislikejim I know this is long time ago, but I think weight does not really matter on a diesel engine because of the high torque..those engines and cars aren't really meant for racing, more for a comfortable and efficient trip. I just looked on this video because I drove a similarastra myself and I really liked it

All that extra power is totally killed by the 250 kg of extra "pork" it has to haul around when compared to VW Golf.

Kenan Begić That is very impressive. It's a very good engine. I have this car but it's manual and not an automatic, which can be a pain in slow moving traffic because of the clutch use.
Yes it is impressive. Car is heavy like 1500kg and it is slow to 100kmh like 9s but for top speed i reached 230kmh which is very good for that weight...you can checkv the videos for biturbo versio that has 195hp and to 100kmh it is also slow but after 100kmh it goes like rocket...

To zadne biturbo.tak to moja 160 km chodzi 232 km/h uzyskałem na w trybie sport.kolega ma 190km to leci jak sie uda 250km/h.

this car is so slow :( my 2009 lancia delta uses the predesesor of that engine - 1.9 TwinTurbo..... (190bhp) and the delta is way faster top end..... granted below 1500 it wont pull to well....
Your Delta is not on 19" or 20" from factory like J Bi-Turbo and your Delta(1400kg) does not weigh 1600+kg like J Bi-Turbo.

+1100HondaCB I beg to differ I loved petrol but after having a diesel for 3 years i am hooked would never buy a petrol again unless it has a turbo in which case i could not insure. I am getting a GTC 2.0cdti sri opted for this over the 1.6T.

Buddy you are mixing intentionally 2 cars or don`t know how to read roman numbers. You compared old GOLF GTD VI and Astra J. The current GOLF VII is cca 250 kg lighter then your fat Astra, so what are you talking about fictional "sponsorships" those are facts! There is even a video here on YT where an GOLF VI GTD is runing against NORMAL Golf VII with only 150HP, and the VII wins because of huge weight difference. Now imagine VII in GTD trim with 184 HP - it would blow doors of that Astra!

Weil Opel beim Astra J aus Kostengründen auf 'ne Plattform von GM zurückgreifen musste und die ist viel zu schwer für einen Kompaktwagen auf dem Deutschen Markt. Pack den Diesel in den neuen Astra K und die Welt sieht ganz anders aus.
Desen Problem bin ich mir bewusst, ebenso wie das "Tolle" F40-Getriebe
Ja, das F40 Getriebe hatte auch bei Mir Probleme, aber wurde vor 40k Km bei Opel auf Kulanz behoben. Seitdem ist Ruhe. Der Astra J hat sicher seine Probleme (Vor allem Gewicht/Getriebe und Interieur) aber im Grunde ist es ein Zuverlässiges Auto. Ändert allerdings nichts daran, dass er bei der Beschleunigung (In derselben Leistungsklasse) gegen VW/Seat/Skoda/Audi/BMW den Kürzeren zieht.
Okey was wurde denn auf Kulanz gemacht, sprich was war das Problem? Fahren den Zafira Tourer BiTurbo und die Synchronisation in den ersten 2 Gängen unter Vollast ist atemberaubend schlecht. Mir wurde gesagt das sei so! Ebenso wie das Bypass-Ventil sich ab und an Verabschiedet vom Turbo... aktuell 55k km
mein ZT hat ein Leergewicht von 1870Kg ^^ hat 19" 235/40 OPC-Line Pannoramascheibe+Dach, 7 Sitze, AHK... hab in den Urlaub mit Familie ca. 6,2l verbraucht bei ca. 120km/h fande das sehr gut. im Alltag dagegen, wohne in Baden-Württemberg Zollernalbkreis geht es viel bergauf und ab liegt der Verbrauch bei 7,2-8,6l.
meine Erreichte TopSpeed war 251km/h und lag Top auf der Straße. Also ärgern kann man schon. es fehlt halt einfach das Drehmoment bei 2,500-4500 die 400NM sind einfach zu harmlos für das Gewicht. Gechippt bei EDS bringt er ja an die 270PS und 515NM... was das Auto auf ein Niveau bringen würde, wo Spass Macht.
