What always disturbed me about this mission is the callousness of the BTR in the beginning. It isn’t attacking a military site. It is driving through suburbs, firing randomly at houses. It’s absolutely horrifying.

Check out how the Pearl Harbor attack started, two dudes saw the whole japanese aircraft fleet on radar on the top of a mountain which they only used for training (radar technology was not widely used for aerial defense at the first stages of WWII). They informed the chain of command and the officer assumed it was an exercise of their own land based airforce thus they didn't take any action and it was a massacre for the Americans.

Man, I really love this mission, because of how open the space is and has few sandbox elements. Also, friendly a.i. Follows u wherever u go, it makes it feel like a commanding officer that doesn’t talk at all but focuses on actions rather than words.
This is late but Advanced Warfare did something similar, in the mission throttle they let you zip around the level like batman for most of the level so that was cool
In this single battle in this random place in the US, Ramirez killed at least 200 Russians, destroyed 2 BTRs and 2 Attack Helicopters, single handedly. He also commandeered and turned an attack drone against the Russians which forced them to destroy it. Ramirez needs a very big promotion.

If you take it with you, you can use it to help provide cover fire as you approach the building to secure the drone controls. Put it in the parking lot in front of the windows, then go to the right of the building; as it shoots at the windows, crouch and approach from the alternate angle to breach.
In Half-Life 2, you can bring every hacked sentry turret with you in Nova Prospekt. While carrying it with the Gravity Gun, it shoots everything in your path, and can be set down somewhere as supporting fire. You'll have to run back and forth if you want to bring more than one (I think the mission has around 8 total), but it's worth it in the final standoff because you can just stand there while they mow down all the Combine trying to get into the teleporter room

I see cars and stuff in the driveways, my guess is the moment the Reds rolled in, they upped stakes and fled. Later missions mention evactuation points and we see choppers lifting off, so most likely they all headed inland.

James Booth Wait so your choices actually affect how certain things play out in the campaign? Neat feature, although 5% combat effective is better than 0% combat effective. Mind you, they’re also mid evac, they aren’t likely to have been banded together in the proper sort of militia mentality yet. Given a chance to regroup and organize and even a ragtag bunch can do good against conventional military forces; or at least buy time.
The addition of the squad screaming as the humvee explodes at the very start is one of the reasons that the remastered campaigns earn their pricepoint. So many small details that make the immersion of these games so much more than the originals. Gems.

The current event however is clearly a full on flesh illegally invasion. We definitely should not intervene though. Thinking about this mission again, I never realized until now that's it's unrealistic for russian ground vehicules to be on US soil. The invasion just started with paratroopers, ground vehicules would need to arrive from the sea and that would take way much time and logistic to prepare an invasion like that.
Yeah, it'd have to be BMD's dropped from the air, but even then those things have thin ass armor for weight. Either way it wouldn't look good for Russians.
Imagine driving home from your family's place or your work on the I-95 and seeing a bunch of fighter jets flying down the entire thing, with paratroopers being dropped down minutes later. I'd be fucking terrified.
I love how this whole scenario is also predicated on the notion that if this were to happen, you WOULDN'T have every American with gun, from a .22 to an AR, just forming up with every soldier with a US flag on their shoulder.

They informed the chain of command and the officer assumed it was an exercise of their own land based airforce thus they didn't take any action and it was a massacre for the Americans.

Man, I really love this mission, because of how open the space is and has few sandbox elements. Also, friendly a.i. Follows u wherever u go, it makes it feel like a commanding officer that doesn’t talk at all but focuses on actions rather than words.
This is late but Advanced Warfare did something similar, in the mission throttle they let you zip around the level like batman for most of the level so that was cool
In this single battle in this random place in the US, Ramirez killed at least 200 Russians, destroyed 2 BTRs and 2 Attack Helicopters, single handedly. He also commandeered and turned an attack drone against the Russians which forced them to destroy it.

You'll have to run back and forth if you want to bring more than one (I think the mission has around 8 total), but it's worth it in the final standoff because you can just stand there while they mow down all the Combine trying to get into the teleporter room

even if they manage to cyber out the entire US, they use the good ol naval force to blockade with the legacy targeting systems for the anti-air.

And you can hear General Shepherd losing his mind and accept his fate because he was the one that started the war.

Mind you, they’re also mid evac, they aren’t likely to have been banded together in the proper sort of militia mentality yet. Given a chance to regroup and organize and even a ragtag bunch can do good against conventional military forces; or at least buy time.

The addition of the squad screaming as the humvee explodes at the very start is one of the reasons that the remastered campaigns earn their pricepoint. So many small details that make the immersion of these games so much more than the originals. Gems.

The truth is no one can fully tell on how far this conflict can escalate. Personally I don't fully think that WW3 will happen but the time for China & Russia to expand their power to no end for as long as someone like Biden is president. He is very weak and ineffective and our opponents will definitely take advantage of such circumstance for as far as they can.

Thinking about this mission again, I never realized until now that's it's unrealistic for russian ground vehicules to be on US soil. The invasion just started with paratroopers, ground vehicules would need to arrive from the sea and that would take way much time and logistic to prepare an invasion like that.
