    I watch dragon Ball. Thus my base origin of style is stocky muscular men. But I was missing a certain body structure that I hadn't noticed. Watching Naruto, I realized how characters posed and stayed laxed. Causing my style to focus on positions. Which fixed my arm problem. I was putting the arms against the torso, which didn't look good and caused agony. Now I let the arms have space, which makes my art dramatically better.

    Hay names zigzag(not literally) I'm a full body and stick figure animator on Hyun's dojo. I believe you videos carry more truth than you know, in fact I was gonna do the same thing you do, but you already said what I had to say XD. I believe these words can inspire many beginners and I hope you become more successful as well, later.

    This video is one of, if not, the most insightful n in-depth take on finding your art style and I think it really helped, so thanks

    Thank you for this video :3 It was one that I didn't realize I needed until I watched it
    I've been meaning to change my style for a while now actually. I kind of like it as a style - to me it's generally simple and quick to draw each frame (I can easilyget a bit of animation done every time I take the train to school) and I haven't done a lot of modification to it since I started, plus me and a lot of people around me like the style.
    But I kinda think it is, in a kind of strange way, 'too' simple (or maybe too childish), if that makes sense. I kind of wanted to get a more complicated or sophisticated style but I think I'm allergic to hard work.
    But now I understand and I get what I've got to do so thanks :D

      yeah I think a lot of styles I consider to be the coolest styles take a little bit of extra work, weather it's the thought that goes into each line or the detail that is added to the drawing. thanks for commenting!

    You truly inspired me. In 2018 i was lookin for some tutorials about animation,and i found your channel. And see your passion about this kind of art .(animation and drawing).Really make my passion about art increase .You have so many interest thoughts in your videos ,and this help me a lot not so in art stuff.But in my life too.This year (2019) i make a decision to be a artist no matter what's cost. Is this or i will kill myself,cause for me when you have the obligation to do something just for the money,for pay the bill,or instead do what you really love,you already dead,but just inside not physically.I just want say thank you man for you just exist.Cause you are one of the many artist i know,who help me a lot to make this decision.
    My name is Douglas lima and i living in Brazil,one day i hope so i will master and all kind of art i admire.
    Drawing in general,a great skill to be a animator,(essential i say).
    I like to drawing on paper,do a digital paint also.Sculpts traditionally and in 3d(just love zbrush.kkk)
    animation in 3d and traditionally .I want be so good like all artist i have like reference in all this kind of art.
    Sorry about my english ,cause you know i`m brazilian guy,and i refuse use the google translate.kk
    I learned English alone, just watching movies and series. As every child learns any language. I only took 30 years to know what I know today.
    And that is man.A really big thank you.Appreciate a lot, everything you do.Just keep doing that,cause certainly you help a lot of people around the world

      That's awesome man, very happy to see that you are on track to pursuing your dream. But I would say that your alternative is very extreme. I would urge you to never consider suicide. That would remove all potential for future happiness. No one can predict the future and you can't ever tell when fortune is around the corner. So please... No death. Just creation and living life as best we can

    Can you do a demonstration of how to breakdown an artists work? I have a hard time doing this for myself and would love to see a method of do this.

    • @HowardWimshurst
      @HowardWimshurst  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good recommendation. It's not an easy thing to do and a lot of it depends on the artist's observation skills. I have tried a few methods and i am trying new ones now. I will remember this request and make a video about it in the future. Thank you!

    it's funny really because I have been trying to better my art style. lol
    and now that you've made this video I see what you mean, because I have always tried anime and manga styles when I was younger. but also trying new style isn't that hard because I have drawn for so long. lol
    thanks for the video man, keep it up!!!

    • @HowardWimshurst
      @HowardWimshurst  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yeah man, right now it's more of a struggle for me to know what I want rather than finding how to get to what I want. I can't quite decide what style because it's a combination of artists styles

    • @BD-fi5wy
      @BD-fi5wy 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      well if you can take any knowledge from me is work on producing your own anatomy style.
      I find triangles to be easy to work with and I have thought about making a tutorial on figuring out your own anatomy style but I don't feel I am experienced enough to do it just yet.
      also I know you are in college and I haven't a clue what they are teaching you but your animation style seems to be unchanged, and not in a bad way.
      think of the shapes that are relatable to all the styles you want to Implement.
      hope it helps and if it does I'd love to hear it. you can email me your results or reply here or the next video either of us make. lol
      again keep up the good work and hope your classes are going well.

    • @HowardWimshurst
      @HowardWimshurst  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks for the advice man I will use it
      Most of my teachers don't really influence my drawing style that much, it's more about other things in animation and storytelling
      i would love for you to make more videos, if not about that then about whatever else you want to make. the important thing is that you start somewhere and keep going

    • @BD-fi5wy

      I have wanted to.
      TH-cam is such a great opportunity for people like us.
      I've had a lot of barriers to get by because my confidence in art has felt low till recently.
      so once I find the right idea for a video I will make videos again.
      thanks for the encouragement man.

      one thing I have done for ideas is to do case studies on other youtube channels. have a look at their most popular videos and see how you could make variations or your own version of that video. You will soon have a massive list of videos you can make and ideas for how to make them

    Hello, this is my first time commenting on a video of yours. I've seen a few of your videos now and plan on watching many more. I'm midway through a graphic design program but what I really want to do is become an animator. Thank you for being so informative and professional.

    I never draw in the same style twice, I always make different and random drawings. This bugs me because it makes my content so ununified and I never get to refine and master even one of my tens of different styles.
    But whenever I think about doing art in only one style- forcing myself to express myself in one way only and not allowing myself to draw out of the style box, I feel afraid. I love people with styles, they make great art, but I don't want to be one of them.
    you can see some of my art here to understand me better:
    the-darkness-rider.deviantart.com/
    I don't know what I should do about it because I've got to have a direction in art but I want to be able to draw anything.

    Hey Howard, cool video! I was wondering if you could make a tutorial about how to do changing perspectives, like from front view, it transitions to side view, like in dynamic scenes such as running. Thanks a lot! :)

    • @HowardWimshurst
      @HowardWimshurst  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I cover a lot of that in this lesson
      th-cam.com/video/e1lbIe0J3cM/w-d-xo.html
      Make sure to listen to the part where I talk about the three core principles of making a 3d moving background. I will say that if you want to make 3d moving backgrounds, be prepared to spend a lot of time on the scene and be prepared to re-draw things again and again and again.
      I might make an updated video with more information in the future
