A 172 can Cruse faster than a cub in rough air but in smooth it's near the same

Austin... a flying club might be a good way to get a handle on aircraft access and learning about ownership through the club. It's but one of the ways that you can get access to an airplane without bearing all the costs by yourself, from the outset. Shared ownership/partnerships are also another possibility.

@@austyinglenn If you are close to an airport with an FBO (Fixed Base Operator), apply for a job as a line boy. I was totally enthralled with learning to fly, and even tho I initially was just paid minimum wage, they let me rent the planes for 1/2 price, and instructor time was also 1/2 price. All the "hangar flying" chat was invaluable, and I was able to pass my written exam for my SEL, as well as my instrument rating, just from books & help from people I worked with & those who owned the planes I fueled. Another huge advantage was that I taxied a lot of different aircraft, and was able to get a feel for so many different ones. I was also invited to ride along in many different aircraft. Assisting the mechanics & doing oil changes, etc. for the 25 hour checks gave me confidence to work on my own 172.
