    “I have no idea what I don’t know”! Well put. I went all in when I started my PPL. End up buying a Cherokee 140 20 hours into training because I knew I didn’t want to be held back by having to rent something. My Brother-In-Law (of Genuine Aircraft Hardware) used to have a Cessna that he'd take us up in.
    Seeing you all chatting as you fly reminded me of him.
    He passed away a few years ago of Alzheimer's, his Dad's Cessna and the handbuilt-experimental he'd been working on all went to other hands.
    I enjoy your channel and the flying I see, the planes and sights all bring back fond memories of hanging out at the Lompoc airport with him.

    3:47 - So when they say the MOA is not open... that means it's not open for you to fly though, or it's not open to military operations right now (i.e. "cold" or "inactive"). I interpret that to mean it's inactive, but it's kinda ambiguous by ATC comm standards.

    • @astral9872
      @astral9872 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're not talking about a MOA, they're talking about a restricted area, but the terminology is the same. Cold/inactive means military is not using it, civilian aircraft can fly through it. Hot/active means the military is using it so civilian aircraft cannot enter. With a MOA, it can be hot or cold and civilian VFR traffic can still enter it.

    • @ParadigmUnkn0wn
      @ParadigmUnkn0wn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@astral9872 Yeah, cold/inactive and hot/active I understand. Those are the terms I've always heard and used and they're completely unambiguous. And yes, VFR traffic *can* fly into a hot MOA, but unless you're a fan of suddenly becoming the training target of an F-16 it's generally inadvisable. Not sure if they're true or the pilot's version of a fisherman talking about a fish that was '*this*' big, but I have heard a story of a guy getting intercepted when flying through an MOA. Not because he did anything wrong, apparently he just became a convenient training target.

    Shortest time on the flight line? The time between yelling "Clear!" and hitting starter. That was a bummer buy gas for two planes and not getting to PIC either

    So sick, that's an awesome first tailwheel. Not to mention all the patey secrets hiding in that plane. I needed a flying video today. Hope the fires get under control soon although the caldor fire has "joined" the Dixie in not looking good at all. Praying for our firefighters and first responders here in California!
