I’ve watched quite a few how-to videos on TH-cam and yours are by far the best. You don’t cut corners and you explain things thoroughly. I plan on using this video as a guide when I install bead board my powder room. Thank you!
Nice project! Always adds a nice touch to a room with little effort. I like nailing in the groove of the bead, then I don't have to sand the little mound you get from nailing into mdf.
At first I thought you were ripping birch plywood but then you did that close up on the poplar. Very neat work Jon as usual. Thanks for sharing. I know a bunch of people will get good use out of this video..
Once again - perfection! I've done some wainscotting in the past, but this will my first attempt with beadboard. Starting to wonder what percentage of my house you've indirectly allowed me to remodel. Thanks for the great work!
How would you handle an uneven wall at the corners? We live in an older house and settling has made most of the walls out of whack to some degree. This is very apparent when one wall intersects with another when dealing with vertical lines.
Thanks for sharing Mr. Peters! -- Almost didn't see it today, as I was on my way out the door from the office and decided to check for updates! Thanks again!!!
Hi Jon , I've messaged you before on this job, I've completed the whole room (looks great) and built in a loose panel/ access door for heating unit which has bowed out a little. Any thoughts on how to prevent, remedy it🤔 cheers P
Hi! Really enjoyed the video. This is almost exactly what I would like to do in my dining room. Now, I am very inexperienced in this type of improvement and have limited tools and money. The dining room is small and there is an existing chair rail and baseboard molding that I would prefer not to remove/change if possible. Is the project do-able with out removing these? Thanks!
Mary LoPreste Home Depot sells textured beadboard wallpaper that looks just as good as the real thing, and is much easier and cheaper to install. You can also order it online, and search for videos and articles on how to install. You can easily work around your existing molding, or get ready-made molding that they will cut for you at any home improvement store, or just get an inexpensive miter box! I did my entire stairwell top to bottom with the beadboard wallpaper, looks beautiful!
I just watched 2 Home Depot videos about installing wainscoting and both just glassed over dealing with power plugs. The 2 seconds that were shown here was much more detail than they went into. If someone followed those, they would have plugs that were inset back into the wall so the cover would never go over them.
I’m looking at doing this around our dinning room with mdf wainscoting/beadboard as well as pvc wainscoting in our bathroom. Can you use liquid nail to adhere the material to the wall? Also are you nailing directly into the dry wall? I know you mentioned on the end of that one run there wasn’t a stub so you cross nailed to hold in place till the glue dried..? Thanks!
Jon - my bathroom is odd-shaped. I am comfortable cutting the molding/chair rail at the measured angle, but what would be the best way to meet the beadboard on that unique angle to avoid an obvious seam? Much thanks, Alex
Thanks for the video. I'm curious if you had to extend the electric box or use spacers for the outlet screws? Also, if you were putting this on top of baseboard heater, would you still use a toe molding? Thanks!
Jon, thank you for the video. You make it look easy. Hopefully my project will turn out as well as yours. What gauge nail gun are you using/recommend? Did you shoot into only the studs (besides the end with no stud)? How do you do the corners with the bead board (internal and external joints)? Thanks in advance!
Thanks. Question. Where the bead board wraps around a corner to the door did you miter the long edge at a 45 degree angle to get a seamless connection? I ask because that is what I plan on doing, but am concerned that MDF bead board with splinter and chip.
Hi great job! I have couple questions. Was the bottom molding over the baseboard just a preference? Could you please explain how to do the corners? Do I simply cut them at 45 degree angles?
Hey Jon, when you get to an outside corner with the beadboard, do you miter the beadboard to make it fit nicely, or do you have to put a corner molding over it?
finished my whole hallway except for a small corner behind my den door do I do one straight chair rail and 45 the small piece and cope to the straight piece already messed up a couple of boards the other corners wasn't hard this small one is don't want to leave it unfinished Thanks!
Great little face lift. Looks great! I'm looking to purchase a chop saw and I'm torn between the 71/4 blade to the 10". Any advice on the size of the blade for a miter saw? Awesome job!
Hello sir! Can you please advise me? Im not sure what can be done about the beadboard MDF that i added along the long wall facing the outside in my basement. It seems to have expanded and is wavy now. Apparently there are supposed to be joints in between the boards but I didn't know of this issue previously. And I watched few videos and no one left any gaps between the boards. Thanks!
Can I buy all the molding and board at Home Depot pre-made? Can I buy it and install it myself with glue and nail gun? (Trim nailer)?? Great video. Thanks for posting.
Hi, want to ask about finishing nail you use with the nail gun. I built a cabinet the other day and I use a 1" finishing nail to hold it together but it came apart any tip on how and what happen why it came apart on me?
Why is it necessary to use glue on the walls?...If the board even needs to come down or a mistake is made putting it up, then it would rip the walls up removing...Thanks for a response.
Gremlinsbreath had the same ? I have. Uneven inside corners I just scribe. It's the outside corners. I saw briefly that you just did a butt edge. How do you finish that? I haven't cone across one outside corner that is 90 degrees.
Were there any concerns about pulling the receptacle that far out of its box and perhaps exposing the area where a hot connection would come in contact with wood? @4:42
Hi Jon, I am hoping you can help me with this question. I am installing bead board wainscoting in my son´s bedroom and have a dilemma. He has a reach in closet, and it is about three inches further back than the main wall, leaving a small wall. This wall has a round edge, so I do not know how to put the wainscot in this area. Could you help me out with some suggestions? I greatly appreciate it. Regards, Natalia
Sounds like you are saying the corner bead on the sheet rock is round, if so just trim as you would any corner. There will be a small gap at the top of the chair rail that will need to be filled. Hope the helps.
***** Thank you Jon for answering so quickly, I think that would work perfectly in most cases, but I kept my original baseboard and that goes around the corner bead. If I do it that way I would be having a protruding edge at the bottom, correct? I hope I am getting the terms correct. Thanks again!
Jon, great video. I am planning on doing beadboard and a chair rail in the nursery, but I would prefer to not remove the existing baseboards. Is it possible to do this project without that step?
Hey madman, I've watched so many of your videos I cant remember where you covered it, what's a good trim level airless sprayer for cabinets of trim work?. I'm not looking to paint walls, only trim work and cabinet projects. Any thoughts of suggestions? Rich on Finish Carpentry has shown a few reviews, I'm interested on your thoughts...

Jon I swear you're the master of the miter joint. You make it look effortless!
Thanks Jeff....appreciate it.

I'm planning on doing this in my bathroom next week and I figured it would be an easy project. Thank you for the video!!
That's great, good luck with the project, really makes a big difference
How would you handle an uneven wall at the corners? We live in an older house and settling has made most of the walls out of whack to some degree. This is very apparent when one wall intersects with another when dealing with vertical lines.
First class job again Jon, done with your usual effortless skill.!!!
awesome job... can you make a video on how to hide the seam where the boards join.. did you end up painting the panels? thanks in advance Tom
Thanks for sharing Mr. Peters! -- Almost didn't see it today, as I was on my way out the door from the office and decided to check for updates!
Thanks again!!!
So helpful and well done. We are currently redoing the walls and trim for our 1940s bungalow DIY.
Thank you! I’m glad to hear and good luck with the project
Great content. I appreciate Jon taking the time to film and edit.. great entertainment
Great video Jon! Subscribed from here on. Beginning a beadboard project in our kitchen and half-bath thanks to this guidance.
HI! If I don't have the baseboard installed yet, should I bead board then put up the baseboard? Thanks for an awesome tutorial!!
Hi Jon , I've messaged you before on this job, I've completed the whole room (looks great) and built in a loose panel/ access door for heating unit which has bowed out a little. Any thoughts on how to prevent, remedy it🤔 cheers P
Great Video. I felt like i was watching This Old House. Great Editing, Great Cameraman.
Which type of glue did you use to mount the beadboard to the painted wall ?? Looked like PVA wood glue ?
You're too humble. The video was great. I'm going to do this tomorrow.
Thanks Brian, good luck with project.

Nice detail added here on this wainscot panelling!

Thanks, I don’t remember but I didn’t think so. . Maybe ad a 1x2 on top of the base board heat
Thanks for the detailed video Jon.
Great job john. It looks real nice
Love the colour of the walls
Thanks for this video. Really helped me to do the project. God bless you!
Amazing work Jon.
Thank you, appreciate the comment
What did you do with that outside corner? did you just overhang and paint?
Very Nice Job! These ideas will help with my first bead board project. Thank You..!
How did you fill the holes left by the nailgun? Just paint? Did you use poplar for the molding? Thx for the Nice video Jon! Thanks!
What type of wood did you use for the trim. Do you have a cost and what was the final height for the top rail? It looks great
Jon, thank you for the video. You make it look easy. Hopefully my project will turn out as well as yours. What gauge nail gun are you using/recommend? Did you shoot into only the studs (besides the end with no stud)? How do you do the corners with the bead board (internal and external joints)? Thanks in advance!
Came for the wainscoting, commenting because of the Warren Zevon quote. 👍
Thanks. Question. Where the bead board wraps around a corner to the door did you miter the long edge at a 45 degree angle to get a seamless connection? I ask because that is what I plan on doing, but am concerned that MDF bead board with splinter and chip.
Same here. I'm planning to use corner molding. Not going to risk the edge being wavy.
Hi great job! I have couple questions. Was the bottom molding over the baseboard just a preference? Could you please explain how to do the corners? Do I simply cut them at 45 degree angles?
you lead, and I will follow ! I think you have got your act together.
Hey Jon, when you get to an outside corner with the beadboard, do you miter the beadboard to make it fit nicely, or do you have to put a corner molding over it?
Beautiful Job! Plan on doing this in my family room.
priceypads Thanks
Jon,I noticed you use wood glue to adhere breadboard to wall. I would of thought construction adhesive.
You do beautiful work!
I am getting ready to purchase our first home. And I want to do this from the living room to the dining room. Since they are combined.
Smart putting the glue on the wall instead of the board. Like how you nailed the end with no stud. Should stay on the wall for a long time.
This is great, thanks so much for that, Can I use a hammer instead of a nail gun?
What do I do when passing a low window? Is there a trim I need to do? Do I go into the sill?
finished my whole hallway except for a small corner behind my den door do I do one straight chair rail and 45 the small piece and cope to the straight piece already messed up a couple of boards the other corners wasn't hard this small one is don't want to leave it unfinished Thanks!

Awesome job!
12" slider is the best.
Not sure if you mentioned it, but are you using standard wood glue for the beadboard on the wall?
Also, amazing job on the video and the finished product looks great!
Thanks Lola
Great Video. Thanks so much!!
Thanks
awesome video Jon thanks very much
My walls are not square and so what is the best way to fix corners when adding beadboard to the walls.?
It was a great job I wish I had that Talent it saves thousands of dollars
Any chance we can see before and after shots of the painted kitchen cabinets?

what will yield the best look installing beadboard when there is hot water baseboard heating. Mine runs full-length of the adjoining walls
Awesome video, definitely going to do this to my kitchen. Thanks
Jon, how do you deal with walls that aren't necessarily perfectly flat (slight warping) or is that not a big concern?
Can I buy all the molding and board at Home Depot pre-made? Can I buy it and install it myself with glue and nail gun? (Trim nailer)?? Great video. Thanks for posting.
Yes.
Thank you. Jesus loves you and your soul is priceless!
Another good video. Thank you.
Nice tribute to Warren Zevon during the intro.
Hi, want to ask about finishing nail you use with the nail gun. I built a cabinet the other day and I use a 1" finishing nail to hold it together but it came apart any tip on how and what happen why it came apart on me?
Very nice work..............
nice simple moulding but so effective
Why is it necessary to use glue on the walls?...If the board even needs to come down or a mistake is made putting it up, then it would rip the walls up removing...Thanks for a response.
Thank you for making this video! Very helpful.
Was that just normal Titebond glue that was used behind the beadboard? ...or is there a special kind of glue to use for this application.
+Rob I just wood glue, works great
Gremlinsbreath had the same ? I have. Uneven inside corners I just scribe. It's the outside corners. I saw briefly that you just did a butt edge. How do you finish that? I haven't cone across one outside corner that is 90 degrees.
I’ll try to make a short video on that, it’s difficult to explain.
beautiful work
im a beginner...but it would be nice to make your own trim board and chair guards. .cool vid
Were there any concerns about pulling the receptacle that far out of its box and perhaps exposing the area where a hot connection would come in contact with wood? @4:42
Yes, he should use a switch box extension so which would keep the receptacle away from the wood.
Great tips , thanks.
which paint did you use? I hesitate to finish with gloss. Thanks!
How do you handle the small holes left by the nail gun. Do you individually fill them all up or do you have a faster/easier technique? Thanks!
***** after spackling / joint compound the nail holes do you paint the bead board and trim?
I dig the Warren Zevon reference as well as the woodworking, heh
+Joe Guida Thanks Joe, got to love Warren
I follow Zevons advice .
What type of blade did you use on the circular saw?

really hard for me to know, sorry
Jon, great video. I am planning on doing beadboard and a chair rail in the nursery, but I would prefer to not remove the existing baseboards. Is it possible to do this project without that step?
Sure if the base board is big enough and will still have reveal that looks good.
What kind of nail gun is that?
What did you do about the seams??
Nice work
How did you make and attach the Fence system you have on your chop saw?
How do you trim around windows?? No one ever seems to show that part!
What size is the base board without the cap? 1 X 4?
what kind of glues and size of nails on oulet u add bigger screw
No materials list. You build the chair rail from common lumber or hardwood?
Hey madman, I've watched so many of your videos I cant remember where you covered it, what's a good trim level airless sprayer for cabinets of trim work?. Thanks I’ve always used a brush to avoid all the prep so I really don’t have a good answer
What about the nails on the seams how do you fix that or hide them
Beautiful only I wish a better and slow view of the finished work
great job
Enjoy every sandwich. Cool.
Can you bring your tools over and do this for my girlfriend and I? There is a case of beer and good times involved with the project!!
nice really improved your kitchen but personally i would have made it without nails to make it look better but still nice and easy to do
IF you know what you are doing you will never know it was nailed.
Hey good job man!
Good job. ♥
How do you install beadboard behind a sink and toilet?
