Mooncakes are one of the worst food malinvestments possible. Nobody eats them, but billions are spent buying them. Imagine growing beef to sell, but nobody ate beef. Or raising pigs, but nobody eats pork. There is video online of dogs refusing to eat mooncakes. This is mal-investment. It is a gigantic waste of resources. Rather than wasting all this food, the food should be made in such a way that people want to eat it. All this food waste is happening in a country that cannot feed itself!!!!!

Don't worry the GDP will still be 5% But yeah, so many things are not looking up in china. So many economical factors. In the west we tend to be quite open about that and say "Yeah the economy sucks" And it is something to see that the people low down in china also are like, "Yup this sucks, this economy is bad"
I was in Bengbu, Anhui, China ( I have been visiting this city for the last seven years) during mid Autumn festival 2024. This city was very busy, there were lines of people at all the mooncake shops for several days before the actual holiday. On the holiday itself the mooncake shops were empty, there were no mooncakes left. Every restaurant we went to for the six days I was there were busy. Like everywhere in China the older shopping centers are struggling(10 years old) normally because a newer larger one was built across the road. I realize this situation varies from city to city. These people are like everyone else in the world, if they want a good quality product they go to a good quality shop.
Even if there are people to buy, one will question are those fake Mooncake made out of chemical substitutes. As such, it could produce extremely cheap. Note, in ccp's china fake food is common especially in cheap market places and cheap restaurants.
Hello from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I went to a large Chinese supermarket near me and was disgusted by how their "eating?" turtles were kept. They were crowded in three inches of dirty water, and their noses were all bitten off and scarred. I wanted to buy and take all the poor creatures home as pets. When I saw the condition of their live seafood, I got out of the store, QUICK! It made me sad and sick.
