    Absolutely loved this behind the scenes video. The amount of work put into doing a nearly 30m video like this is highly appreciated. I try to do the same in my channel, but the most frustrating part of making these videos is getting permission to shoot video - the fact you were able to do this at a premier league match it's fantastic, kudos to yo Mark! Keep them coming!

      Thanks David, appreciate your kind words. Yes, it’s certainly an 8 hour or so jigsaw to piece together, as I’m sure your aware! If it helps out just one person with their photography then I’m happy with that. Yes, quite tricky at games, it’s a MUST that I don’t capture any match footage, hence aiming the camera up my nose basically. But I think it works ok and gets the photography aspect of it across pretty well. Thanks again for your support David. Keep up the great videos and catch up soon👍🏻

      @MarkKerton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great tip there NikCan with the tape!

    • @NikCan66
      @NikCan66 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark Kerton I do use this gaffaers tape all the time as a remote lens . At basketball and netball games I also mark out a spot on the floor with gaffers tape thats placed at an angle that takes in the hoop from the ground. I take a test shot with attached pocket wizards to check the light and angle. I mark out a position on the court with gaffers tape looking up at the basket by using a roll of AA batteries are gaffered tape together. I then use these batteries are now gaffered taped underneath my camera body to provide an angle to the basket.
      This provides a higher angle without the need for a mini stand that may kicked.
      If any player gets near to my camera I can swipe away then quickly replace my camera back at the spot I marked with gaffers tape and continue to shoot.

    • @NikCan66

      Mark Kerton as your aware gaffers tape leaves little or no residue on the backetball floors or damages the surface so you wont get any hassle from security or the people maintaining the court.

    Discovered your channel by accident ( whilst doing the ironing) and found very interesting and entertaining. Lots of photography videos on TH-cam can come across as very staged and false but this was spot on, by someone who clearly knows their stuff. Look forward to more sports related videos. Out of interest, on average how many shots do you take in a game and how many are used for publication? Cheers Nick

    • @MarkKerton
      @MarkKerton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Nick, really appreciate your kind comments. Just finishing off yesterday’s footage, should be out tomorrow all being well. Average shutter count is around 1000-1500 per game, if it’s a good one! On average I’ll send in 40 odd frames. It all depends on what the story is on the day as to what ends up published. Yesterday’s match had a red card and a great goal celebration, both of which have been in papers today, as well as online. Thanks for the support Nick and hope that helps👍🏻

    • @MarkKerton
      @MarkKerton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Donald. Yes, that’s it. I’m on the 400 for the long frames, opposition goal mouth back to just outside the 18 yard box, then swapping to the 70-200 for goalmouth action. Keeps us busy! Sometimes it’s a challenge to stay on the 400 for as long as possible, turning the body to shoot portrait, then onto the 70-200👍🏻

      @MarkKerton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Josh, yes we always pull the net back to make sure the ball wont reach the camera if it bulges the net. The net is always in the frame obviously, think there’s an image or two in the videos, but it adds to the composition I find and the papers certainly don’t mind when it’s a good goal. I’m using a 17-40 at the moment.👍🏻

      Thanks for watching and sorry for the late reply! At the Premier League games once we choose our spot we have to sit there unfortunately! I chose this spot when it was dull and overcast as I quite like it in the corner next to the away fans so any celebrations at the waiting do I usually right into the corner. However, the low some caught us all out and as we couldn’t move we had to put up with it unfortunately! Thanks for watching

    A matter of interest Mark, if the haze was giving you a lot of trouble in the first half, how come you didn’t position yourself on the opposite side thus also avoiding the linesman?

    • @MarkKerton
      @MarkKerton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’ve just been discussing last weeks issues David. I moved with Chelsea attack for the second half to the other corner flag as that’s where the away fans are. Had there been a late Chelsea goal they would have ran and celebrated straight at me, so with that in my mind risked the haze! There was some cloud floating about too, but just not when Alonso scored!

    Wanna asking,
    Camera behind goal keeper
    1. You put camera on the left, but final image, on the right. Did you move it?
    2. When it rain, you protect the camera ? When?
    3. You said, manual exposure with 1/2000 f: 7.1, when it rain, you change the setting?
    4. What your memory card on the camera? Same with camera trigger?
    5. How your set manual focus , because there is no subject? Or u set infinity focus?
    Thanks for thw answer, i like your video.

      Hi Yulius. Thanks for the Q's. I moved ends at half time so the goal cam moved with me. The rain cover is easy to put on so that goes on as and when it rains. I have my goal camera on auto ISO. Same memory cards are used, Lexar 1066 32gb. I manually focus the goal camera focussing just past the goal line, using the back screen. This is all covered in the video. Hope that helps Yulius.👍

    • @MarkKerton

      Hi Rene. I use f5.6 on my 70-200 to ensure goal mouth frames have a good depth for capturing say two players in the focus area and not one. Sometimes, with the action so quick, the focus area may not quite be perfectly on the player, but both him and his opponent should still be sharp enough. Hope that helps👍🏻

    Love these videos Mark! Really like that stool too, if I end up getting one I’ll be sure to buy through your link.
    One question I do have: the 70-200 pretty much covers the closer stuff, which I’d assume would be most of the key attacking action from the side you’re at. Does the 400mm have that much importance if it’s mainly getting stuff from the other end or guys nearer the middle of the pitch?
    I do a few amateur games and typically have my 70-200 for the whole game. I do find it lacks reach for action at the other end to me, but I tend to go with the attitude of I’ll miss the stuff that happens at the wrong end and live with that - I’m just doing it for fun predominantly, so not too worried and if I’m hired by a team I’ll be at the end they are attacking. I’d love the 400mm but my god it’s not half expensive!! Cheers! Hope you’re all good during isolation!

    • @MarkKerton
      @MarkKerton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Simon, great that you enjoyed this video. Hopefully I’ll soon be making some more fingers legs and toes crossed!
      Regarding the 400, I would be lost without it to be fair! I only really come off the 400 towards the 18 yard line. It’s also essential at the beginning of the season to get lots of stock images of the players in their new kits etc. Plus, once football season is over are usually turn to cricket or athletics where it is again essential especially for Cricket as you can imagine. Are usually add the 1.4 extend it to the 400 to 4 Cricket Sometimes the only story from the game can be the managers so it’s a must that we have it to get over to the dugout too. Yes, they are very expensive but there are some really good quality secondhand ones on eBay and online at MPB for example. You can pick one up for around £3000 at the moment.
      Thanks for supporting the channel Simon and hopefully you are keeping well and finding things to photograph at the moment. Catch up soon

      Mark Kerton cheers Mark! I’ve went and ordered that stool! Boredom in isolation is hammering my credit card!! 😂
      I think if I was doing professional games it would be worth me looking at investing, my main issue is I’m on Sony so I’ll likely be waiting a while before their g-master hits the second hand market! I love mpb - great company! Since I’m only doing amateur games where the pitches are much smaller and you can get much closer maybe the 400 isn’t as necessary for me - as nice as it would be to have one!
      Here’s hoping we’re not stuck in isolation for too long, although the biologist in me thinks it’ll be a long time before crowds are back at games ☹️. Great to have videos like these to watch though, I love that “behind the scenes” type stuff of football matches, seeing how your day goes! Take care! 👍

    • @kingweddingmedia
      @kingweddingmedia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark Kerton yeah I think they are maybe missing some third party options for the telephoto side that would give cheaper alternatives, and maybe a 300mm prime would be a good option, but they’ve been doing quite well recently to build their lens options so long may that continue!
      I have experience of both DSLRs and mirrorless and while I absolutely love the canon grip and how the cameras feel in your hands, I just find the electronic viewfinders and Sony’s eye autofocus to be sooo good I could never see me going back to an optical viewfinder again. But I do think canons are more fun/enjoyable to use!

      Thanks Vedren. Very good point. It’s very important that we freeze as much as possible. I have worked in 1250th but find the ball is still carrying motion in some frames.
