      I may have to give it a try. I have switched to shooting everything in RAW, and 90% of the time it's nice and sharp. So I'm not sure if it's just the camera age/use starting to give out on me. Thanks for the kind words and for watching the video, much appreciated!

    Just saw your channel. Great videos, brother. I just got done shooing my grandson's football match. My first one, by the way. Right now I only had my 70-200mm. Time to save for something a tab longer lol. Looking forward to learning more from you. Have a great day.

      Me too but then sometimes 70mm is too long for me when I want to capture an action rather than a player, like the penalty spot and the goalie

    Thanks for making this, always great to see. Can I please ask why you have the 400 on the 80D, and the 70-200 on the 1D? I would have thought making the 400 into a 640 would be a bit too long, and if you did it the other way you would have a 400 and a 110-320 - or is that the issue, 110 is too wide for the goal /close shots?

    • @Talru
      @Talru ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there. Great question, and you're right. If I had the 70-200mm on the 80D it would be too close really for some of the shots of the goal and celebrations. Also, the 1D IV is quicker (fps) and less buffering than the 80D, so if there is a goalmouth scramble or a great cele in front of me, the 1D will keep shooting whereas the 80D's capacity for doing so isn't as good. Ideally, I need to upgrade the 80D to a full frame, probably an old 1DX or something.

  • @joffemannen
    @joffemannen 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Do you have a video like this for now, after covid? Am looking for tips on how to capture a goal with a 70-200. In my case very liberal access, very limited spectators so players don't yet run towards the crowd. Swedish women's 2nd division for context. So far only one camera, and sometimes a hipster analog. So normally, with 70-200, behind the goal and to the side, I get the player making the shot but the goal isn't in the picture, or the ball is in the goal but the striker is not in the picture

    Depending on your Go Pro model why not look at getting a Volta. They extend battery life x4 and are fantastic for when covering games, as you don't have to worry about changing batteries at half time.

    what do you think about mirrorless cameras? Or Canon 1D IV is the best right now?

    • @Talru
      @Talru ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, sorry I missed this comment a couple of weeks ago. I use my 1D IV purely because it still works. I do need to invest in something newer at some point and mirrorless will be the future. R3 looks insane, but R5 and R6 look interesting options, though I have used neither myself. If sticking with DSLR, also look newer than 1D IV. 1DX ii or iii if affordable

    It's great that you share and show what it looks like. I have a few questions, I would be grateful for the answer.
    I am from Poland, with us, the cost of equipment 70-200 and 400 mm is a good class limousine car. Have you taken credit or do you have any other way?
    2. How to get to the club? You sent the question yourself, did they catch you?
    3. It is known that everything costs us the mentality that if you take a photo you upload it on FB, you can "steal" it for free ...: / How is it with you? For example, on the match day, what money can you count on for photos from the club?

    • @Talru
      @Talru ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Marek. Thanks for watching and for the questions. Regarding equipment, I never buy any cameras or lenses new, always used. That said, my 1D IV I did take some credit to purchase even used 7 years ago. The 400mm was a case of slowly working up to it buying smaller lenses when I could afford them and trading them up - there was no overnight quick purchase. So yes, a little credit and a lot of saving and trading up.
      Regarding the club, I first contacted them a year or so before I started photographing for them. Thankfully, they kept me in mind when the opportunity became available and after a three game trial, I was in!

    How are you able to transfer your images from your cameras to your laptop and then off to the club? Thanks for the good info regarding sport shooting.

    • @Talru
      @Talru ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Wayne. So the club like to receive them during the game on Whats App as it's easy for them to save and put on social media. So, during the game I will put memory card into card reader and transfer images to laptop. Edit them in Lightroom and then do a batch export - one hi-res image without watermark, one smaller version with watermark for social. Both auto saved to different locations. I then send some of the smaller ones on Whats App to the club's media team. I use Whats App on my laptop (desktop version) which makes that easier. This video has some info on that process:

      Two things: 1) I use Affinity Photo for my editing so LR isn't applicable to me and 2nd it looks like you shoot your sports photo in jpeg and I suspect most sports photographers do? As I mostly photograph landscape/wild life, I'll likely need to shoot in jpeg for wicker editing.

    • @Talru

      Hi there, apologies for the slow reply! I think the starting point is to build yourself a nice portfolio - get out and shoot as much as you can, grass roots/amateur level (seek permission first) and build out as many types of shots as you can. The more practise you can get the better. That will then put you in a good position to share your portfolio with agencies and also send it to clubs, leagues, teams etc who may need a photographer. Good luck!

      @@Talru Thank you! I will keep that in mind. Your videos are of big help. I have one last question and that is, is there any woman sports photographers? Could they work with a men’s sport or would that automatically mean they’d have to work with a woman’s sports team?

    • @Talru
      @Talru ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@makethatcaaaake sure, there are quite a few female photographers who shoot the professional men's game. Off the top of my head, there are 4 official club photographers in League Two who are female and I think at least 2 of the big Premier League clubs also have female club photographers. There's a good number of freelance/agency photographers who cover mens football too, so definitely do not let it put you off. It is male dominated, but less so now than a few years ago. Equally, I know loads of male photographers who cover the Womens Super League here in England too.
