The difference is basically that contour is bringing out natural shadows where there is less light hitting your face, which is why you want it to be cool toned in comparison to bronzer which is placed on the parts of your face where the light usually hits, which means by bronzing you bring out the sun kissed part of your skin that would be more tanned. :) Sadly, these product are often mislabeled by companies that don't know the difference. Contour should always be cold or neutral, while bronzer should always be warm. :) (Also I'm sorry for any grammar mistakes, English isn't my first language)
@@michellelashay3 I'm not a professional, but in general I would say this works for the majority of people. Keep in mind, there's an exception for everything! Also even if you have the right product, you also have to find the right shade for you. I would also always recommend, even with contour and bronzer, not to go too dark. Especially for beginners, this makes it look a lot more natural!
Facts and the exact reason why I don't contour, the right shade is really hard to find on a budget especially for really pale or really dark skin but I think I might try this one out!
@@michellelashay3 that's true for every skin tone. Of course cold tones are gonna be a different type of cold for different skin tones and undertones. But contour is still always cold/neutral and bronzer is always warm For example one of the darkest contour sticks, by fenty beauty in the color "caviar" is also cool toned. It's a very dark brown, almost black, but a neutral/cool toned black (yes pure black has a neutral undertone, but there are other shades of black that can be cool or warm toned)

These are very popular products that there are even cheaper dupes of everywhere (and she uses them all of the time), so I'm not sure how you haven't figured it out (especially because the label is visible) but they're the sheglam liquid contour, bronzer & blush.
I knew the difference and did it like that, my first years of doing my make up, but then I only found bronzers marketed as contour.. most contours are too warm or too dark..
You young ladies are so lucky to have the correct shades to use as contour readily available. I worked for MAC in college late 90’s and they had the best shade of cream contour called cool walnut. It was discontinued and there really was nothing like it until just the past few years. Everything was so warm toned…I had to use a taupe eyeshadow, lol.
This contour shade looks good on you because you have cool undertones. If someone with “warm” undertones used this shade they’d look unwell. This is why bronzer is used to contour warm complexions. Makeup is what works best for your complexion and this is a perfect example of “One size does not fit all.”
Why do you need a demo for understanding common sense ? Contours are used to create artificial shadows. Obviously a shadow is grey not orange. If you use a bronzer as a contour you'll just look burnt, like a great value Donald Trump
The reason why bronzer is used on people for contouring is because if you’re a warm complexion the cool in the contour makes you look sickly and drained when applied to your skin. I use bronzer for my contour, because I’m a perfect example of what I just explained above.
This is also the frustrating part about trying to find drugstore contour. Even products marketed as contour are almost always too warm to be contour, and I don't get it. Makeup companies (even at the drugstore) should know the difference between contour and bronzer.
Really glad for this! Companies often misled by saying the bronzer is just contour for warm-toned skin, and now there's very few actual contours that are cool toned
Exactly, this is what I’ve been trying to find-the natural cool sculpting factor to manipulate the face-reduce certain areas for a 3D advantageous effect not the flat face effect. But also in a camouflaged natural way. Bronzer helps with 3D effect also, but in a different, warmer way on top of the skin not camouflaged.
Being more warm toned (I’m a bit of both but a tiny bit more on the warm side) bronzer looks so much better on me whilst contour makes me look chalky same thing for lighter concealers and foundation
I’m warmer toned too and if I try to contour with a cool shade I look like death 😂🤣 I use bronzers for contouring. This is a perfect example of “One size does not fit all.”
In my opinion, choose upon your skin color if your white use contour it'll look more natural but if your skin is a bit dark bronzer will make it look more natural cause its more into your skin color
Your mom correcting you on disney is exactly what I do with my son now after he watches certain youtubers. I just purchased the Sheglam foundation stick based on a TH-cam review. I had never heard of this brand before.🤔 I was shocked at the price I believe it was 10 or $11. It was delivered today and the first thing I noticed is how nice the packaging is😳🥰. Heavy in your hand feels so luxurious.. The super soft blush color is really pretty. I can’t wait to put it on tomorrow👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! If this $10 foundation stick can replace my beloved yet sadly discontinued Tom Ford Foundation stick… That will be incredible … Can you imagine? 😂

Now that is a perfect contour colour for my skin colour. I never liked contouring because it was always impossible to find the right shade to match the actual shadows on my face, especially since I'm so pale, they were always very warm or just straight up orange on my skin and it is really hard to find a truely cool toned contour, that still appears cool on neutral to warm toned skin. Shadows are still always much cooler in tone than your skin and this cool shade creates the proper illusion of areas on your face you want to look more concave. Honestly this should work for cool toned paler skin as well, I must have it!
i love the concept of a contour and bronzer but here’s the thing the shein is not inclusive like at all i’m rare to medium skin tone color and it looks too bright so if there was a darker bronzer and that isn’t too cool toned too that would make it more inclusive maybe
One could also use a darker shade of their makeup brand and tone i suppose 🤔 like if you have cool skin tone. You can use the darkest cool shade of your foundation brand ?
Hasn't it always been like that? Contour mimics shadows where its cool and bronzer mimics sun where its warm is how the woman who taught me to do that part of my makeup taught me to remember it.
