You did a good job explaining the difference in power. Too many people get confused around a small saw beating a bigger saw in a certain application. Stock ms250 will beat an ms660 in 6” wood so it’s a lot more too it than it beat a bigger saw. Excellent job on the echo!
Yeah. It's about chain speed. Lean out that g660, and put an 8 pin to get the chain speed up. To get true power and RPM's on those 660's a finger port really helps. Another tweak is let it breath. It's Achilles heal for true speed is the intake & carb.
LMFFAO! Awesome job on the video! I’ve been playing around with the aftermarket 10 pin rim available for the 660! LMFFAO! With that a 25” rollomatic and a loop of square ground chain someone made me I found my g660 meteor topend kit builder to be the absolutely insane and the hands down fastest cutting saw I’ve ever had a chance to run! LMFFAO! Definitely all about what you’re looking at getting in your chain speed and staying super sharp! LMFFAO! Really fantastic stuff from your last several videos and fantastic to see you kicking azz and taking names! But I’m still totally blown away by your little nitrous blowing wild thing build and run! Novice is quite the “Contender!” When the gate drops and it’s time to go! I don’t know man… you seem to have that cool underneath the pressure type deal that you can make those three cuts accurately and fast and not slip off and kill the time! I’m seeing a couple new racing titles in your future dude! Obviously you can build them and you have the ability to run them pretty freakin quickly too!!! I’d not put money against your doing anything that you feel like doing! Kick azz man!!! It’s just freaking awesome!!!!
I looked into the clone saws and after changing out the recommended gaskets and bearings too with oem Stihl parts for reliability. You can buy a nice used 046 or 066 for about the same price and have a legit big cc saw that will probably be worth what you paid for it 5 or 10 years later. The same cannot be said of the clone saws but they are interesting none the less. I got to pick up a 4910 and get it ported.
Yep I played with a couple of g372’s and by the time I replaced the carb, junk parts, and bought a bar for it was more than the price of my 590 and wasn’t any faster with a few mods, and everyone knows which one will last longer.
I know a few bought the Holzfforma 660 clones have no issues with them. Prices are rising now they have gotten more popular not all that cheap as they used to be spending $250-300 on a clone where can find a used Stihl. Used stuff can be a money pit. I don't need a big saw just picked up a Makita E5600F on Amazon for $400 nice saw for the price. I like the idea of a warranty I think if I wanted to tinker with porting maybe get a clone to play around with if it was cheap.
Impressive machine! Just curious.. wonder what fuel consumption is like, e.g. no cuts / x amount of fuel given the wood is uniform, for a factory saw vs levels of modifications?
You were rocking the saw on the right back and forth. There's no replacement for displacement. Ported or not, no way that 50cc saw should cut better than a 90cc saw.
Well, it did. And it would do it again. If you can't understand that the 50cc saw was capable of higher rpm's...then I'm not sure what I can do for you. If I had just let the big saw eat the way I did the 50cc saw, it would have just four stroked in the cut the whole way and gone even slower. I explained it all in the video.
I have a neotec 892. Until I added a 8 pin rim, which it came with and knocked the drags down on the chain it wasnt fast. They have good torque, you have to set em up to take advantage of it. With a stock chain and a 7 pin you could stand on it and it will keep cutting with the 24 inch bar.
That's a pretty tremendous exaggeration, don't you think? I mean...I've never understood why folks talk like this. I have only ran one chainsaw that I couldn't easily bog down...and it had a motorcycle engine. If you seriously cannot bog a saw down, your rakers are wayyyyyyyy to high. Not trying to be mean, but I've heard this sentiment a LOT! And at this point, I have ran some really serious machines. Every single one of them bogged with a simple pull on the dogs.
@@novicelumberjack Clearly im exaggerating, I'm fat I could bog it down lol. Being serious tho, you could have dogged the g660 in a lot harder and made it cut faster.
I get what you are saying. More often than not i'd take a torque monster with a bigger sprocket. If you ever get into a whole run of monster trees or need to run a bigger bar, change sprockets.
@nseric1233 Nope. Seriously. I'm not just being difficult. Lots of folks think this way, but it just isn't true. I've been doing these Wack-Offs for a long time now and I am Really practiced at getting the fastest cut times. I was pushing on it just hard enough to get it to clean up and not four stroke without dogging it in too hard and lose rpm. Forcing a saw through too much just drops the rpm's and slows your cut time drastically. I eluded to it in the video, but this 660 clones' inability to hold higher RPM is without doubt due to poor ignition timing. It has decent power and it should have been able to blast through way harder than the 4910, but it was clearly designed to run at a very low RPM. I will remedy that.
@@novicelumberjackMy 066 clone is way faster than my 50cc saws in 15 inch wood. I also run a very hungry chain on it that would stall a 50cc saw out non stop. I would never consider running the exact same chain on a 50cc saw as a 92cc saw, the stock chain is likely the problem. Try taking the depth gauges down by .015 or more, I bet it will cut a bunch faster.
I can believe it.... I have a blue 272 I bought to carry on my track cutter cause it's cheap and disposable... that thing has great torque but it cuts like shit if that makes any sense...😂
Awesome 4910!! Great build 👍 Doubt the g660 has 7.0hp OEM spec, it probably has close to the ported 4910. Had a g372 48mm (365) Hp spec 4.6, and my 590 smoked it.
Be carefull aftermarket 660 jugs are hit and miss.I and IRONHORSE have had some problem getting number because poor exhaust port deign and piston skirt lenght.Give yourself some time.
4910’s are great little saws ported! Stock they are lazy! Boedy you have a lot of work ahead of you with the clone but if you can do what Indiana Doug has done with the clone then it might be interesting indeed! 😎
I totally believe that 4910 beat that G660. A little tip about making power with a ms660 and why some stock run better than others is to aim the upper transfers back toward the intake with variable duration. Some cylinders don't let you do it with out slowing the velocity down. If you can find on old Stihl 066 cylinder that is great. I bet why that Holzfforma 660 in not as strong as it should be. The transfers are aimed straight over the piston and will lose a percent of the transfer charge out of the exhaust.

I have a pretty strong oem 066 round top and I don’t care for a 9 pin on it works well with and 8 for all around cuts
The doohickey!!! The term for a fancy POS part that dosent even need to be there anyways. Great work bud, that 4910 is petty damn strong.
