  • Do you need to use DDU when upgrading your GPU? Whether it's the same brand or switching from NVIDIA to AMD or even Intel. In this video I try my best to mess things up without using Display Driver Uninstaller to see if there's any instability, performance loss or other issues.

    As the developer of DDU I have to agree. DDU is a tool made mainly to fix problems that you *may* encounter when you are switching brand or update driver etc. It was not made specifically for using everytime or to give free FPS boost . The main 2 things that would happen when using it everytime is that you are sure to avoid *possible* conflict/corruption, name it, between driver version / brand and mostly recover disk space on your main drive. If you have a lot of drivers updates and never clean installed, you could have several wasted GBs from theses drivers. Bottom line, use DDU when you need it or if you want to recover some disk space of accumulated drivers. DDU is not mandatory to upgrade your drivers if everything's goes fine.

    Actually after just going through a major headache switching from Nvidia (GTX 1660S) to AMD (RX 6700XT), I can say that using DDU is a good idea. The AMD RX 6700XT driver was very confused and kept choosing crazy refresh rates like 30 and even 24 on Crysis 3! Doom Eternal claimed that it needed a driver update even though I was running the latest driver! When I ignored the message, the game booted and stuttered like crazy! Ironically Rise of the Tomb Raider had no problems running whatsoever. I initially thought that the AMD drivers were just trash or something, but then I gave in and booted into safe mode. I pulled the internet connection, ran DDU, and cleaned all the drivers from both manufacturers. I reinstalled the AMD drivers and then reconnected the internet (which DDU tells you to do btw). Now Crysis runs in 60ish frames (which is normal on AMD) and Doom Eternal runs flawlessly. Before running DDU I did reinstall the GTX 1660S to find that everything still worked great so it seemed that just the AMD drivers had issues. I have in the past switched to better Nvidia GPUs several times without using DDU with no issues, so going from one manufacturer to the other may be where problems can pop up, and like me they can pop up only in certain games. So just do it. It may save you alot of trouble.

    • @michaelv1984
      @michaelv1984 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would always DDU when switching from different manufacturers for sure. Same brand, nah. I just swapped my 2080ti with a 4070ti and everything was detected just fine. Was going to at the very least uninstall GeForce experience along with the drivers, but the 4070ti and the 2080ti use the same exact drivers. If I have issues benchmarking/using I'll fresh install but I doubt it as windows is pretty smart these days. It's kind of the same thing switching CPUs, you don't need to reinstall anything. Windows and AMD software pick it up just fine and the AMD drivers are the same for the desktop CPUs.

    • @OldsXCool
      @OldsXCool ปีที่แล้ว

      @@itsprod.472 Interesting that you should ask me that. I returned that card and went back to Nvidia because I had more problems with many driver features not working on games and that was because the drivers truly were broken. I ended up with a RTX 3060ti and haven't looked back. That being said the 6700XT was massively more powerful than the 1660S and a bit more powerful than even my 3060ti. Unfortunately the mini game that I had to play trying to get some older DX11 and DX9 games to run wasn't worth it. Plus as just a bonus the raytracing on the 3060ti is worlds better than the 6700XT if that's something you want to play around with and DLSS is almost black magic. AMD is gonna have to do much better than they're currently doing if they want my money again. I was all for supporting the underdog and deflating Nvidia's head a little bit especially after the 40 series mess, but Nvidia is still the best by a pretty big margin when it comes to driver stability, features, and running games in APIs lower than DX12 and Vulkan.

Change from AMD to Intel, chop and change GPU Brands, the O/S doesn't care; it'll just download the basic drivers it needs off Windows Update to make the Card or Board useable, and then you get the proper drivers later.

This is not the first time I have had this problem. Just because you did not experience problems doesn't mean that others won't. I also had a problem going from two AMD cards from the same generation. You should really take this video down. 2. Is it good to have an antivirus software to be used to protect my PC or Laptop???

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      1. Every graphics cards has different performance and pricing. AMD and NVIDIA also focus on different aspects of graphics technology and have different features, so it's not an easy question to answer. But, I will say the RTX 3060Ti is probably the best value GPU at it's price and performance when comparing retail pricing.
      2. Windows 10/11 has inbuilt virus protection, Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome browsers do as well. There is no need for third party software. They just slow down your PC and are a waste of money unless there's a specific security feature that you need, which isn't available in Windows Defender.
