      Thanks for commenting Carlos! I am glad for viewers like you and I hope the video helped you make a decision if that particular style of chair is right for you. Also, nice job on the keys over on your channel! I'm jealous because I can't play at all.

    I just got mine last week! Love it so much. My only issue is that I got the white colored one and it wasn’t my smartest decision. lol. I’m afraid it’s going to get dirty. Trying to find a seat cover for it right now. Hence, I came across your video. 😆
    Also, mine is fully chrome, including the hydraulics.

      I bet the white color will break in and age well even if it discolors a bit from use! It is a chair, and I personally think chairs look best when a bit worn and broken in. Thank you for contributing to this discussion Tara!

    I came across this video looking for a cheaper options than the Herman Miller Eames. I'm blown away at the cost difference. I'm quoted today at $1662 for an Eames. The SOHO Ribbed leather version is $450-$500. I would love to see the Herman Miller and the SOHO right beside each other. That would be a great video.

      That would make a great video for sure although I doubt I would make one since I do not personally own one to compare. Even if I did, I am not inclined to even post many more videos about alternative chair options like this since TH-cam took down my two most popular videos (over 30K views) for what I think are absurd reasons and flawed logic relating to chairs without a designer label on them.

    I just received mine and I have a couple of comments: Max capacity is high, but the width is not very big if you are larger than normal. This bears out in the dimensions -- the real Eames group management chair is significantly larger.
    The chair offers no lumbar support. I worked on a real Eames group management chair for years at my first company. The comfort of the Laura version is _not_ what I remember from that chair, but admittedly it was a while ago.

      Thank you for adding your perspective to the conversation Sam! I have sat in a high back variant of this chair (an authentic original from the 1960s) and it was a bit more comfortable than my laura chairs. However, given it was a high back and was broken in for 60 years, it is hard to compare. I hope you still enjoy it and thanks again for leaving a comment for others to see!

    What did the company say about the black lever as opposed to the chrome version in the marketing photo?

    • @doesthislookwright
      @doesthislookwright  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Doug. That is a great question! From what I recall, apparently, there are 2 types of this chair. The lower end variety has the chrome knob, while the higher-end model with the premium leather option (the one that I bought) is true to the original black lever design. To my eye, it looks cheaper, but it did seem more like the original chair it is modeled on when I looked at vintage photos. I think I had left a comment about this in my original unboxing video. This subtle difference may be seen in the marketing photos if you explicitly know to look for it. When searching for the chair info online it was not evident as a casual purchaser. However, since learning that I checked a few images and seem to recall that response being true. So it was not a case of intentional dishonesty or attempts to mislead, but rather the nonobviousness that the chair bases are different in addition to the material selections. I have not gone back to their site recently to check if they made this distinction between the 2 product lines in this family more clear. All in all, I still generally recommend the chair! Let me know if you pick one up and what you think of it! Thank you for watching and contributing to the discussion.

    Did you upgrade the arms on the laura chairs? I noticed yours are full solid metal all the way around comparable to the original ones, the ones nowadays appear to be almost a half arm that differentiate from the original design; just curious, I wonder if they had to pull that arm design due to legal issues or manufacturing costs 🤔

    • @doesthislookwright
      @doesthislookwright  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment! I didn't do anything special with the arms, it came that way on the model I bought. I think as noted in the comments elsewhere or in the video there are a couple variations of this chair though I do not recall the specifics. I think mine was the high-end model since it was ordered in aniline leather. I remember there being a difference in the handle to raise and lower the chair on the base as well. The online literature at the time did not do a very good job of explaining the differences.

    Does this chair dip in the butt area? I can only sit in chairs that are flat or that tilt forward or I get back pain. Also, is it possible to lock the tilt control? And does the tilt control ever slide out of place?

    I love the looks of the SOHO chair I purchased but after 6 months of very light use (under one hour a day average) the cushions began to sag significantly with no zipper access to repair the filling. I purchased through Amazon and used Amazon to contact the seller. Within minutes LD replied saying this was normal wear and tear and basically tough luck. I replied this was unacceptable, they didn't respond. Amazon then contacted them 2 more times on my behalf and each time LD responded instantly (obviously without consideration or thought) with similar 'tough luck' messages. At the end or the day, Amazon also gave up on LD and did the right thing, i.e. refunded a good share of the purchase price. I will NEVER purchase another LD product based on my experience with poor quality and LD's refusal to consider my valid complaints given the price of the chair. Amazon, however, has always done the right thing by me.

    I bought this chair about a year ago to, a couple days ago I heard a really loud snap when I sat down, pretty sure the spring broke, now the height lever doesnt work and the no rock lock doesn't work and it hakes all kinds of loud noises every time I move at all now. I went to their site, and this chair is apparently no longer available. I have an actual real Eames chair and i got this one to kind of match it. The original one is still perffect after years. Of course the real Eames cost an arm and a leg I guess you gte what you pay for.

      I am sorry to hear your chair is not working. I still see the chair listed on their website. Are you sure it is no longer available? I believe they have a 2-year full warranty. I would contact them online for sure. Their folks had been super responsive to me about online inquiries. www.lauradavidsondirect.com/products/soho-ribbed-management-chair-burgundy?_pos=2&_sid=9865e5092&_ss=r.

      Thank you for taking the time to comment. I don't ever appear in my own reviews but rather give my opinion about them. I imagine we are not the same size or shape. I can appreciate your desire to see someone sitting in a chair as a general reference, without context it might not add that much. Is there some objective measurement or information you want to know? Perhaps the height from the chair seat to the top of the back? With my torso, the chair back reaches between half way and 3/4 up my back. Another way to think about it is that the chair back reaches where the sleeves on a short sleeve t-shirt fall. The recline stiffness is adjustable so the tilt is configurable. My elbows rest comfortably on the metal arm rests. There is a high back variant of this chair that from the looks of it would reach the back of my skull. If you are very tall and want back support to lean back in, get the tall version for sure: www.lauradavidsondirect.com/collections/soho-tall-back-ribbed

    Late post to this video, but there aren't too many posts about this chair. Only glowing reviews online. I'll keep it short: One of the most uncomfortable chairs ever. Don't do it. Also, their 60 day return policy is a joke, because once assembled it is impossible to take it back apart and return. Why? The lift cylinder cannot be removed without damaging it or doing damage to something else. Very deceptive business practice by Laura Davidson. Strike this one of the list.

      Thank you for commenting Michael. I did not find the chairs I bought to be uncomfortable and they seem to be wearing in and breaking in nicely, though a lot of this is pretty subjective. I would wholeheartedly agree that this style of chair, no matter who makes it, is definitely not as ergonomic as a dedicated modern office chair design. To back up that assertion, I have a Herman Miller Aeron here that is far more suitable for extended working comfort due to the general shape, higher back, etc. I personally have never tried to disassemble the product to return it, but I value your comment and hope it helps inform folks who see my review and give them another point of view before they chose to part with their money.
