    Thank you for this wonderful video with an additional perspective to think about. I have always believed the world is missing context and translation differences that are difficult to understand. What I do not understand is why Christians have persecuted the Jewish people over the years. The way I see it is if Judas had not betrayed Jesus or the sequence of events did not occur as written, no matter how horrible it may seem, then would Christianity have even been born and were would many people be today?

    This is from the online Virtual Jewish Library; Isaiah 53:
    53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
    So is there a translation you would recommend for those of us who don't read Hebrew?

      @psandbergnz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Fishers of Evidence, the translation you provided for Isaiah 53:8 is fine, but it doesn't get us to your Jesus! "He was cut off from the land of the living" refers to the exile of the Jews (their bearing away into captivity in Assyria and later, Babylon) away from Israel (which is the "land of the living"). To support this, we can cross-reference the exact same term in Hebrew with Ezekiel 37:11: "They say that our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; "WE ARE CUT OFF." It would help you to read chapter 37 of Ezekiel, which is a prophetic vision of the Jews' exile away from Israel, but God promises to lead the Jews back home and to bring them back to life metaphorically, i.e. bring them back to the land of the living (the land of Israel, their home).
      Can you cross-reference "messiah" with a suffering servant? If you could, then that would support your case for Jesus being the suffering servant in Isaiah.
      "For the transgression of my people" means that the servant (Israel) is stricken as a result of the transgression (iniquity) of the Gentiles. It is the Gentile kings who are speaking here, owning their guilt.
      "Stricken" means afflicted with disease (probably due to privation as captives), which Jesus was not! There is no indication in the NT that Jesus suffered from disease.

    The Rabbi asks who is speaking in Isaiah chapter 53.
    His answer: Not God, not Isaiah, but "kings of the nations" according to chapter 52v15.
    It can't be "kings of the nations" because someone is telling us what kings of the nations will do.
    Who is this person? That is the person who is speaking.
    According to his own counsel, the Rabbi should just look at a few earlier verses.
    In chapter 52v13 it says "See, my servant will act wisely..."
    The same person speaking in verse 52v13 seems to be the same person still speaking in 52v15.
    My servant will act wisely (v13) and kings will shut their mouths because of him (v15)
    If "kings of nations" are speaking in 52vs15, then they are the ones talking about '(my servant" v13)
    Is Israel the servant of "kings of the nations?"
    The one who speaks about "my servant" in Isaiah chapter 52 is God.
    In Isaiah chapter 53v1 there is a new speaker, yes and it is not God.
    However, to say God is not speaking in chapter 53 would not be totally accurate, because it seems God has a voice in saying
    "My servant will make many righteous" (53v11)

      They want Jesus to be God according to their understanding of the Torah even though God already gave Moses the laws of how Jews need to live their lives, their salvation , their dietary laws . Even the God had already revealed himself to the Jews that he is ONE & BESIDES HIM, THERE IS NO SAVIOUR. Christians took this verse & tweak it their way.

    Before making any conclusion about whom the prophet Isaiah referred to in Ch 53, we shall understand under what historical background and to whom God wants Isiah to speak and why.
    The audiences in this video are very unlikely to know, they came to a bible lesson and ended up with only 3 bringing the bible.
    Isaiah 1:1 talks about when was the time of the ministry of Isaiah, 2:1 talks about who he was, and chapter 6 talks about how he was called by the Lord and what was his mission assigned.
    A preface of a book pretty much can tell you what the author is about to write, the preface in the Book of Isaiah is Chapter 1, if anyone has ever read this chapter knows how sinful the nation of Israel is, which Rabbi Tovia Singer admitted the nation Israel suffers because of their people's own sins, and this servant killed the prophet Isaiah eventually.
    Rabbi Tovia Singe suggests the servant in Ch53 are Israel, he quote such as 41:842:1, 44:1 etc to prove it. But if read carefully, what kind of servant God is talking about? 42:19-20, 43:22-28, ch44.
    Lastly, it's very interesting that Rabbi Tovia Singe use 43:10-12 to prove Trinity is wrong. Are these verses written by the prophet to fight against Israel's belief in Trinity? NO, the background of these verses and the context of the whole chapter and the follow chapter prove Israel is an idol worshipper and rebellion. What was the reason suddenly God restate to Israel says '...That you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was o God formed, Nor shall there be after Me. I, I, the Lord, and besides Me no saviour.(43:10-11) Because they didn't know and believe the Lord, they didn't understand that I am He, they thought other nation's gods could save them. God has to chasten His servant to let them witness who is God through His redeeming(V14).
    How does a sinful nation redeem other nations? How Israel a sinful nation herself can be an offering of sin (53:10), and how a nation full of iniquities bore the sin of many(53:12)? Who is the singular Seed of the servant(54:10)?
    If 53:1 was talking about other nations or the kings of other nations, to whom those nations report to?
    If they had reported why their mouths shall shut?
    If the holy servant is Israel in ch 53, why God urged them to depart, get out of Babylon, don't touch unclean, and be clean in 52:11? Which basically indicates they are unholy.

    Isaiah 42:1-8
    1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold,
    my chosen, in whom my soul delights;
    I have put my Spirit upon him;
    he will bring forth justice to the nations.
    2 He will not cry aloud or lift up his voice,
    or make it heard in the street;
    3 a bruised reed he will not break,
    and a faintly burning wick he will not quench;
    he will faithfully bring forth justice.
    4 He will not grow faint or be discouraged
    till he has established justice in the earth;
    and the coastlands wait for his law.
    5 Thus says God, the LORD,
    who created the heavens and stretched them out,
    who spread out the earth and what comes from it,
    who gives breath to the people on it
    and spirit to those who walk in it:
    6 “I am the LORD; I have called you in righteousness;
    I will take you by the hand and keep you;
    I will give you as a covenant for the people,
    a light for the nations,
    7 to open the eyes that are blind,
    to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,
    from the prison those who sit in darkness.
    8 I am the LORD; that is my name;
    my glory I give to no other,
    nor my praise to carved idols.
    The servant in these verses, is the same servant in Isa 53. Also: Stop trying to take the Glory of that servant and apply it to weak men. All men fail - even Jews - that’s the message of the Bible. Men fail, God does not fail. That’s God’s glory ! Stop trying to take credit for healing the nations with Jewish sufferings. You’re sufferings are not “the Savior” of mankind. God’s ordained, chosen Messiah is.

That “regular man” rose from the grave after being dead for a span of time that covered three days. He showed Himself alive to his defeated disciples, which invigorated them to proclaim that without recanting unto their death. His hands and feet were “ pierced“ describing a Roman Crucifixion that was not even invented at the time that David wrote that psalm. It’s amazing how every single book, the design of the temple, the description of the high priests garments, the ark,etc etc etc etc all point to Christ - the son of David - whom the Pharisees got mad at as they interpreted Him to claim to be equal with the status of God. I’m satisfied, completely so with placing my total faith in Jesus the messiah for obtaining a godly righteousness outside of any human’s capability - God’s very own righteousness … applied to my personal account before a Holy God. The Old Testament is replete with example after example of every sing human failing to live up to the righteousness that God requires. Jesus did that perfectly without sins. Born of a virgin, he had no physical father … his true father could only be God - which is how he was able to not sin as he had no sin nature. He claimed to exist before Abraham when He said: “Abraham lived to see my day and was glad in it.” You can say all this is not true all you want … but the law teaches us that it;s impossible to keep the law. No one, you me, any Muslim, any pastor, and saint … no one kept the law to the level that God requires. Either Jesus is the only way … or else all humanity is doomed. I know the perfect plan that God had from the beginning … I recognize it … I humble myself and all of my religious effort and count it as nothing at all to be valued in comparison to the FREE GIFT that a very loving and HOLY God offers anyone who honors His Son to recognize that He is worthy to receive the same honor and worship that God receives. He is the prophet that Moses wrote about when Moses said: “God will raise up for you a prophet among you - it is to Him that you must listen … whoever does not listen to Him … I will require it of them”. Jesus had soooooo many pointers all throughout the Bible … such that when he arrived … everyone who was searching would have recognized who he was !!! The nations were supposed to be introduced to God through the people chosen by God to represent Him to the world … yet, even though they failed, God revealed Himself anyway. A people who were not his people saw and understood. Praise God ! Thank you Jesus that you took me in … a person far far far away from you … hopeless … doomed … without even knowing it … and you allowed me to see the beauty of the Gospel message. I understand how H O L Y God is … and yet He has mercy upon thousands … He truly is a wonderful God unlike any other … it’s right that He seek true worshipers to worship Him in spirit and truth. I’m one of those. Transformed, made alive spiritually … and I can not even boast about it because it is something He did … I just recognized Him , and called. Say these things are “not true” to someone who might be under spiritual blindness … my testimony is that I see God’s righteousness available through the Christ. And I understand how God remains Holy … being both Just and the Justifier of the one that believes in Jesus.

      Keep in mind these facts...
      1. The original Christians were not called Christians when they recognized Jesus as the Messiah. They were Jews who referred to what scripture stated and who followed in the teachings of Jesus. Jesus actually was teaching everyone to be a proper Jew because all through what is stated in the Tanakh aka the Old Testament Jews were not doing as they ought to per scripture. Christians are the Jews who focused on being better Jews. It obviously made reasonable sense to the majority because from Jesus and the Apostles spread a form of Judaism which kept growing and growing and now is the largest religion in the world while the Jews who don't acknowledge Jesus as the Messiah are one of the smallest religions. The Apostles did not have an objective to start a new religion. They taught what Jesus made them aware of from scripture and how the Jews at the time were not doing as they ought to. Not that all modern day Christians are living as they ought to, but they at least are a step ahead from the corrupt and denying nature of what people who refer to themselves as Jews in the modern era do.
      2. You are labeling Jewish texts as "their own texts." Ok. Jesus was a Jew. The individuals who followed him and his guidance were Jews. Prophets before Jesus warned Jews how they were not doing as they ought to. Multiple Jewish prophets gave forecast of the coming of Jesus. You are simply focusing on the individuals in the modern era who are referred to as Jews as saying the text is theirs while you don't give any consideration to Christians who stem from Jews who logically may be referred to as Jews who were more reasonable at being Jews.

      6 And He said, "It is too light for you to be My servant, *(it is too light)* to establish the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the besieged of Israel, but I will make you *(the servant, Israel)* a light of nations, so that My salvation shall be until the end of the earth."

      I capitalized the IMPORTANT PARTS ? Isaiah 52:15 is a false prophecy if interpreted like the rabbis!
      ! 52,15 so he will sprinkle many nations,[4] and kings will shut their mouths because of him. For what ⚠️⚠️⚠️they were NOT TOLD, they will see, and what they have NOT HEARD⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️, they will understand.
      So why do the nations shut up their mouths? According to the rabbi interpretation? Oh yes, because they see what is said in Isaiah 53!
      Can anybody explain to us why the nations already know;)?? Although the nations only gain knowledge when Isaiah 52.15 occurs = the statements in Isaiah 53 must be fulfilled except for the last verse = Isaiah 53 is already fulfilled except for the last verse +the Jews don't believe yet! At the end Rabbi Tovia Singer is demonstrating the verse Isaiah 53:8 "For the transgression of my people they were stricken". We know that "my people" here are Israel, if "they" are also Israel as Rabbi Tovia Singer is stating, this verse makes no sense. For the transgressions of Israel the people of Israel were stricken. So, at the end of the lecture Rabbi Singer is disproving the very theory he has been trying so vehemently to prove to these silent people from the Far East. We also know from the interpretations of many Christian writers that Israel is a type of the Messiah, Christ, so throughout the book of Isaiah, Israel is typifying the Messiah, but here specifically it is the person of Messiah obviously, otherwise, again this verse would make no sense.

    So the question is, does this king who reigns over all the earth come gently, riding on a donkey in peace, or in great wrath, ready to do battle? Is Zechariah contradicting himself? This is a big puzzle for Jewish scholars as well. But this is not the only place in the Scriptures where we find seemingly divergent pictures of Messiah. For example, Micah 5 tells us he is born in Bethlehem, the city of David. But in Daniel 7, the prophet tells us he will arrive riding on the clouds of heaven. Is the Messiah going to be cut off (killed), as predicted in Daniel 9, or will he come in regal splendor and reign forever, as Isaiah 9 tells us? Is he the suffering servant of Isaiah 53 or a royal king portrayed in Psalm 2?
    In response to these two seemingly opposite pictures of Messiah, some rabbis decided that there must be two messiahs, the Messiah ben Joseph, who would come and suffer, and the Messiah ben David, who would come as a conquering king.
    Another Jewish tradition explains the two contrasting portraits of Messiah like this: “If the people of Israel will be righteous, the Messiah will come in the clouds of Heaven. If they will not be righteous, he will come as a poor man riding upon an ass” (Sanhedrin 98a).
    Are such explanations necessary or is it possible that one individual might “fit the bill” of both pictures, someone who would be both a king of peace and a king of power, a humble servant and a conqueror? If so, what would this extraordinary person look like?

    Its because you need to interpret scripture with scripture. God gave parts of prophecy to more than one prophet, its best to consider all of what has been said to understand a fuller picture. In the same sense as "by two or more witnesses is something established", I think both Jews and Christians are guilty of pulling scriptures to support their theology. Tovia quoting all of those references is a perfect example. Just seeing the parts you want to see, the parts that is relevant to you and your theory. not referring to the context surrounding those references is misleading, some of those chapters from those references you quoted refer to the restoration of Israel from Babylon captivity, but you have presented it to support your idea that Israel is the suffering servant of Isaiah 53.
    God is not linear, that prophetic revelation happens in sequential order of the chapters progression.
    In regards to isa53:8 It is translated as "He" in many Hebrew bibles, as well as strongs concordance. But the key is to read it in context to understand.

    Later, however, Zechariah gives another description of the coming king, a picture quite different from that of chapter 9. Let’s take a brief look at the context for his statement:
    For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured. Then the Lord will go forth and fight against those nations, as when He fights on a day of battle. In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley, so that half of the mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south. (Zechariah 14:2-4)
    This picture is very much like an epic battle scene from a movie full of bloodshed and tragedy and triumph. Then, in verses 8 and 9 we read:
    And in that day living waters will flow out of Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and the other half toward the western sea; it will be in summer as well as in winter. And the Lord will be king over all the earth; in that day the Lord will be the only one, and His name the only one. (Zechariah 14:8-9)
    Chapters 9 and 14 are the central passages in Zechariah telling of this king who will reign over all the earth. In chapter 9, the king is humble, but in chapter 14, he is a force to be reckoned with. In the latter picture, the king is a conqueror; he comes in wrath, meting out judgment to the enemies of Israel. This is perhaps a more traditional picture of Messiah, a mighty hero who fights on our behalf.
    Mysteriously, this passage seems to suggest that this Messiah-king is none other than the Lord God himself, God coming to fight on behalf of his people. In any case, we are presented with a dramatically different picture of the king here than the one we see in Zechariah 9.

    Isaiah 53 isn't the only old testament prophecy of Christ. He has to remember that "Israel" became the entire body of believers, that Christ is literally the "New Jerusalem".. but he'll never see it this way.. He asked "who's speaking" well.. every word from the Bible comes from "Holy Men" written out of the "Inspiration of God" to claim Christians aren't reading Isaiah in its entirety is wrong. Of course Christians take the whole book into account..

    Yeshua is the Meshiach. If Israel was this righteous, sinless servant who brings salvation to the nations-why does God say the afflicted Israelites are “not guiltles” and “deserving discipline and judgement” and why does God NOT save these nations who afflicted but instead “completely destroys them”? The idea of Israel being the suffering servant is not backed up by other scripture, which is a basic principle of hermeneutics. Now, Yeshua absolutely fits the criteria which is why rabbi Rashi and every other following him are so scared of this passage, and continue to make outlandish doctrines to distract Jews from their Jewish Meshiach-Yeshua:
    “HE COMMITTED NO SIN, NOR WAS DECEIT EVER FOUND IN HIS MOUTH. While being reviled and insulted, He did not revile or insult in return; while suffering, He made no threats [of vengeance], but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges fairly. He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross [willingly offering Himself on it, as on an altar of sacrifice], so that we might die to sin [becoming immune from the penalty and power of sin] and live for righteousness; for by His wounds you [who believe] have been healed.”

    In the book of Isaiah the Lord also calls David and Isaiah himself עבדי, so you can’t just say every time a servant is mentioned we should automatically think it’s Israel. The verses quoted specifically said “Jacob” my servant, so there’s no argument. But Isaiah 53 doesn’t directly name the servant, so there’s no immediate reason to think it must be talking about Israel. If we read the full chapter and think about who the servant is that’s being described, it couldn’t possibly be Israel. Very lazy hermeneutic to simply say because it mentions “servant” and sometimes that servant is Israel (although not exclusively) that it must be Israel in chapter 53

Don’t be weary for the Jews, they have seen what the scriptures say about Jesus. And yet they choose not to believe. Isaiah 6:10: “The Lord has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts- so that their eyes cannot see, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and have me heal them.” Yet, God has not forsaken his chosen nation, in the Days coming to an end. You will see the Victory of Salvation upon all of Abraham’s descendants.

    Only in Isaiah 53 is the servant called my "righteous servant." Therefore this servant stands unique before all others who were called God's servant.
    The Hebrew word in Isaiah 52:15 is not “startled” as Tovia has said here, the word is “sprinkled”. @3:07
    It is used 24 times in the Old Testament and almost all of them refer to the priest “sprinkling” the blood upon the altar after the sin sacrifice. I cannot conceive or can I believe that Tovia does not know this and therefore he changed the word obviously to keep the listeners minds off of the Levitical sacrificial system which points to the spotless lamb whose blood was sprinkled on that wooden altar.

      signed out, anyone could say anything or believe anything. That doesn't make it true. Reality. That's the only judge. Crafting a story to make it emotional and logical.. that's for oscars, not real life. Unless you believe all fictional movies are true. Nothing in the O.T talks about second coming. He must fulfill ALL or he's not the messiah. Nothing in the O.T talks about death of the messiah for our sins. Forgiveness of sins is very clear in the O.T... God of the O.T got nothing to do with the trinity. The trinity is pagan concept. God of O.T is not the father of Jesus. Jesus never said God's name... not once. His mother and family, knowing how he was born, rejected him as a messiah. Paul never said a word about the virgin birth. Never. Christianity is a badly written story. Extremely weak script. And got nothing to do with Judaism. At all.

To conceal that the Jewish Year 4800 was the year 31 AD and 358 is the numerical value of MSchiH (Messiah)? 358 => 31 and 48? Dear Rabbi Singer, I'm Christian (not a Nicean Christian, for me Jesus is just a human, a prophet, but not a G'd) but I'm sharing the same surname as you "Singer". I'm very proud, to share the name with a teacher so wise like you. Thank you very much for your explanation about Isaiah 53. For the people here I must say, that the problem is not Rabbi Singer or other Jews who defend their faith. The problems are the Christians - including the Messianic Jews, because every person who believes, Jesus was the Messiah => "Christos" in greek, is a Christ -, which cannot accept the Jewish Faith and are trying to convert Jews. Why can't people let the Jews live there faith??? The Jews never try to convert someone. Why Christians do? It is written, that the Jews will not accept Jesus as Messiah. This is the order of G'd. So don't try to convert! Have you not read in the chapter 6 of Johns Gospel: Jesus says: Nobody can come to Christ, if not G'd has chosen him. That means nobody can accept Christ as Messiah, if only G'd has chosen him. And have you not read Matthew chapter 7? Jesus said: Not these people, who call myself LORD, LORD will ascend to the kingdom of heavens, but those who fulfill the will of G'd. Conclusion: It is time to finally end the Christian Antijudaism and condemn it, because it was the root of antisemitism and the horrible Shoah. Live and let live, Don't do to others, what you do not want to experience yourself - this are the Law and the Prophets. Why my christian brothers and sisters can't stop breaking the law of G'd? I wish you all the best, dear Rabbi Singer! Shalom! Pierre Singer

    Shalom 💕 Rabbi TOVIA. Can you explain to us D'varim 18:15-19 and Yesha'YAHU 42:1-9
    Can you tell us that which was spoken of in this chapter reffed to Israel as a people to come like Moshe or a promised Redeemer as you are waiting to come? If then mentioned in reference to the Jewish people you are all Redeemer, As in Yesha'YAHU 53
    WHY Are you still waiting for the Messiah to come when you Jewish people are that Messiah for the Goyim? Please explain to us the truth. And who was that Man 100% accomplished all the prophecy as a Redeemer, Jewish people or that Man?l

    I’ve listened to it, this guy is going in circles and he picks and choose what fits his belief , it’s look like he forgot Isaiah 7 :14-16
    And Isaiah 9:6-7
    Notice that he didn’t go into what is actually written in Isaiah 53
    For example verse 3 it’s talk about a man rejected by his people, that this man is carrying on him the sin of others that he’s the sacrifice of sin verse 10 ....
    So this rabi didn’t come near to explain the verses in Isaiah 53 and he didn’t because he doesn’t have an explanation to what is written.
    14Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 15Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good. 16
    Isaiah 7
    6For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.
    Isaiah 9

      Isaiah 7 he, Isaiah tells the king to ask for a sign, that GOD would deliver Jerusalem and not a virgin next before the child know right and wrong those kings against him would die. Now in 53 the whole nation is the him those talking are other nations and they are seeing the affections done to him ,Israel.

      I disagree with you, Isa 53 talks about someone taking the sin of people on himself a person God made him to be the sin sacrifice, now we all know that
      the suffering of Israel was simply because of their disobedience to God , their affliction was the consequences of their unbelief and idolatry, while the person in Isaiah 53 was sinless he was like the lamb of sacrifice blameless, while Israel was full of sin.
      I contact Isaiah 9:6 to Isaiah 7:14
      This child name is Emmanuel ,
      18Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way. While his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19Because Joseph, her husband to be, was a righteous man, and because he did not want to disgrace her, he intended to divorce her privately. 20When he had contemplated this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a son and you will name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." 22This all happened so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled: 23"Look! The virgin will conceive and bear a son, and they will call him Emmanuel," which means "God with us

    Isaiah53 is a looking back from the future. Its about the change from flesh to spirit. Its about understanding the sacrifice. Its about the introduction to a new life of Gods kingdom. Its about his Son Jesus who will come and save the world from the destructions of the flesh.
    Jesus came to fulfill the words of God and to prepare his children for his Glory.
