Elden Ring feels like what I made of Dark Souls as a teenager in my own mind when it came out, 10 years ago.Back then it felt like what I see in those videos.Lordran was always a "completely" open world in my mind back then, although in the real game it wasn't.I believe Elden Ring is like a dream for every single one of us who loved those games back in the days of Demons/Dark Souls and got lost in their lore.
This feels like what they WANTED to make...but FromSoft wasn't big enough. But after such success they finally ARE big enough. And what I want to believe is that Elden Ring is the realization of that dream, because it sure looks like it.
For a game to surpass Dark Souls for me feels impossible but this seems like what I wanted to play all those years ago.And I freakin' love it!

Ds1 actually is the closes thing too this. It's the only one with free roaming, all the others you had to follow specific paths to get to specific areas. Ds1 had farming areas, open areas and you can go damn near everywhere at the start of the game. Ring the bells and then the entire game opens up after that.

Important Thing 11: ALL skeletons will reanimate. The way to stop it this time around is by attacking its body after "killing" it. Though if the skeleton glows while active, there's a necromancer to kill.
Important Thing 12: You can freely rebind your controls. Soulsborne veterans, are you tired of jumping when you want to pick up an item or read a message? You can swap those buttons around and instead jump when you intended to two-hand your weapon.

Nobody mentioned this to me either but once I found out, it changed my experience significantly lol. You now have a pouch in ER, similar to a hot-bar that you can access by holding triangle. You can select different items to be used with the corresponding buttons on the D pad. For example, if you put the spirit whistle in the pouch you can hold triangle and down and access it immediately. The same goes for your Physick, Fire Grease, etc. Using this means you can clear out most of the items in your bar that you usually have to cycle through. :)

Previous games you didn't have to worry too much because most items were really situational but swapping was still annoying at times. Nothing like getting toxic and having to AHHHHH through the pause menu hoping you don't get hit
Sekiro in particular would have been so rough but luckily we had an actual pause button so we could use items not on the bar.

at 6:00, you indicated the triangle button for two-handing, an additional thing for the triangle button is that it is the toggle button for the "pouch" in the upper right of the main menu, you can register flasks, the mount whistle, etc. to the 4 or 6 available slots in it, and access it via holding triangle + d-pad up/down/left/right. this addition to the game helps you avoid toggling the inventory tab in the equipment menu, so just place the other consumables and summons on the inventory tab, and the flasks and mount whistle in the pouch. it's something that's left out from tutorials, and other video creators failed/miss seeing/experimenting on it.

I think I'm still going to put the healing flask on the usual quick slots since it only needs 1 button to use. You probably need to stop moving for a sec as you hold triangle and tap the d-pad once as your finger move off from the analog stick, which may sound negligible but it can be a matter of life and death in combat.
The other flasks I might put on the triangle slot.

The spirit summons make the boss fights so much easier. I'm not sure how I feel about this but first impression is they are OP.

Basically everything that gets a boss's attention is OP. Because it's not the damage the spirits do but the damage you do while they distract.

I hope you can still parry with a rapier weapon in your off hand. Power stancing with rapiers could be a cool build, especially if there’s enough flexibility with the ashes of war to equip normally spear exclusive weapon arts on your rapier

The thing you mentioned that I'm most excited about was that there are creative ways to defeat enemies. One of my biggest gripes with Sekiro was that I felt like the designers had a specific tool or technique in mind for each enemy and boss, so all that was left for me to do was figure out the approach I was supposed to take. It made the combat feel even more rigid than the deflection mechanic and the "tell" attacks with the kanji that required a specific reaction already would have done. I much prefer Dark Souls and its "here's an enemy, use anything you want to kill it" approach.

Great video! I like the fact that you took the time to sit and time the whole passage of day to night. that's something I usually do too. One thing I can't stand are adds but the way you snuck this one in was hilarious. Not to mention the face that I am a huge Dune fan really lessened the blow also. First video I've seen from you and it earned you a like a subscribe. Thanks for your time.

One tidbit you didn't mention was mapping items to the item pouch. It's the boxes that show up above the gestures in the start menu. I mapped my horse whistle to that and even some of the spirits if I needed them to that so it doesn't take up a hot bar slot. The item pouch can be used when holding triangle/Y and pressing the corresponding button on the D-pad.

@@theendereyes4395 well you stinker idid say every one i touch.i did pick up sekiro, and i did try a heavy tools run but the game wasnt doing it for me. It felt good and was kinda hard at first but then after i got the rythm was too easy. I could have rang that difficulty bell i suppose but while the game felt good to play i dunno its the only souls game i totally fell off of. But when i say souls like its not just fromsoft. I mean stuff like salt and sanctuay and that kinda stuff too.
Maybe i will go back to sekiro and finish it though, the parrys do feel good

I’m so glad they are moving away from forcing you into one style of weapon like they did with Sekiro. It really never felt fun for me and honestly I’ve gone back to DS3 and DS1 way more often after beating Sekiro once.
Being forced into 1 build was never really what I liked about Fromsoft games. I can grit my teeth on it, but I won’t like it.

    • @markshamp3699
      @markshamp3699 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

sekiro reminds me a lot of deathstranding in terms of game design. both were created with a very clear vision for what the end gameplay was supposed to be like, and unfortunately that means both became the type of games that either click with you or they don't. no real in between. I applaud FromSoft for proving they could make a souls-like game that was completely different from any of their previous titles or really any souls-like game out there. I also have over 400 hrs. in sekiro so I'm probably a bit biased.
