Thank you for these videos, having just left 2 months ago a long toxic relationship and going through the process of healing. These have been very helpful as I did have to detach for a while and stay in a non reactive state for 2 months, now able to deal with all that had to be compartmentalize, the information here has shown me who I was dealing with, what I’m made of and I will use these practices even more !!! Save yourself, life is too short to live in misery because of someone else’s baggage. Love and respect yourself enough to empower you to be all you can be. ❤️

This video does an excellent job of demystifying Stoicism. It’s not about suppressing emotions but about understanding and mastering them. Thanks for shedding light on this important distinction!

Thank you, James for your videos. I spent 20 years in a toxic relationship. I finally Left it. I found your videos here and Stoicism. I am reading Marcus Aurelius and Epictetus. Your videos have given me a way to apply Stoic philosophy in my everyday life and to find a place to heal, also to become more anchored in the present. Thank you for these tools

We live in a world that more and more this is the scenario. Someone always has drama and knows you cant stand it, but still always dump their problems on you. The kicker is they know what they need to do, but never do it and constantly complain about the same thing over and over. And when you just give yourself a bit of distance, they start gossiping about you. People will always reveal their true selves when you give your self space. They turn to others and then you become the topic of gossip. Pretty sad. These types of people are not people you should give your time to.

I also have a toxic sister that we part ways since 2013. She’s been toxic with all family members. She decided she wants nothing to do with the rest of us. It’s on her! I miss my nephew and my niece of course.

Toxic should be replaced with love and understanding and most of all acceptance and never from a directive. Unless from the heart it has no power. Love the stoic philosophy but changing behaviour or thought does not mean connections on other important levels.

When someone asks me something inappropriate or it is just none of their business, I usually say " why do you ask ?", then when they give me the lame "Oh I was just wondering", I look at them and say "Oh" , and let the silence hang there. 😊

From your video I learn that: Protecting your mental peace is crucial; sometimes that means limiting exposure to toxic people, even if they're close to you. Lowering your expectations can also help you stay unbothered, as it gives you control over your emotions and prevents unnecessary disappointment. Thanks!

This video resonates deeply with me, especially the idea of detaching from external events to cultivate inner peace. It’s a powerful reminder that our emotions are within our control, and by practicing this, we can respond with clarity and wisdom in everyday life. Definitely a Stoic principle worth applying!

Practicing Stoic philosophy helps us realize that negative emotions arise from how we react to events, not the events themselves. By controlling our reactions and focusing on what is within our control, we can maintain inner peace and avoid being bothered by others. As Marcus Aurelius said, "If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment."

Oops, I’ve been the elephant in the room, that one who drains people, the scatty annoying, in your face, no boundaries, oops I had serious hormonal dysfunction that caused childhood through to adulthood issues, psychological and physical, had I been diagnosed with my birth defects, my abnormalities in my periods, i wouldn’t have had the cognitive, physical and mental disorders as bad and the labels that had caused the above, oops it was medical negligence. Oops mr stoic reader, maybe consider that children and adults don’t choose to be the way they are. Oops when you realise your behaviours are some of your family’s behaviours, as there’s are their parents, and you see them in your own children, your partner, and low and behold they also have the same disorders you do. I think the conclusion that if I didn’t know what was wrong with me and what caused stuff, how the hell do I judge someone else by their behaviour if I don’t like it, without knowing what’s going on internally for them. Diagnosis in the medical field is a joke, when you see abnormalities, symptoms, family histories being ignored, You realise again, even if you have to break up with people, you can have more compassion for them.
