If it's ever a documentary concerning the medieval period there is always stock footage of a re-enacted clash of medieval infantry in silhouette, with red overlay and the sound effects of clashing steel and whinnying horses and general incomprehensible yelling. The same scene is used over and over again every time the presenter makes a dramatic announcement: "It was here, in this humble, unseemly field, in 1356 that the fate of England and the House of Plantagenet would be decided..."
I'm dying here--this is SO spot-on with Schama. My professor up here at UCSC literally showed every conceivable program Dr. Schama came up with, to the point where it became a joke.
I've never watched Simon Schama presenting one of his history series but as a student studying history at uni...this parody of historical documentaries is hilariously spot-on!
It's a pun on the words 'wait' and 'weight' which sound the same. =) There's a weight on the scale but when he points to it, he's trying to make 'weight' mean 'wait'.
Nope :-( I doubt they ever will be unfortunately. I remember a time where the BBC uploaded every episode on TH-cam, but for some reason they suddenly remove them all a couple of years back. Thus finding an entire episode is now impossible, online, TV, youtube etc. I can't find a single episode.
@AmethystEyes UGHHHHHHH I thought that was it but because I couldn't hear him say the 't' I thought he was trying to weigh his options or something which was a bit less funny Thanks! :)
Simon Schama is indubitably a Great British historian, but he is by no means a great historian, British or otherwise. He's a telegenic show-pony with a very slim body of scholarship behind him.
There's a clip of DR on "army fails" (i'm running out of search ideas :/) which brought me here cuz it reminded me of this very clip that got me watching the show!
Brilliant!! Exactly like Schama.
"CARD... inal Woolsey." LOVE IT!!
I love Schama and this sketch cracks me up!
"All hell broke loose"
That bit is genius!
Watched this in a lecture. Had me laughing all day.
Jon Culshaw, you're bloody brilliant! You've got him down perfectly! Very funny!
I'm such a huge Simon fan and I couldn't stop laughing!

And there are like 20 people in the shot while the narrator says, "Ten thousands troops..."
Dont forget the "closeup of the actor in period costume, looking serious".
@@iapetusmccool Always surprisingly good actors!

Because of this vid I can never think of the Renaissance again without thinking CARD...inal Wolsey LOL
I love how the audience takes a second to realize he said 'wait' before laughing. XD
This was my first glimpse of "Dead Ringers", very funny; I hope the rest is just as good. (Yes, I actually HAVE been living under a rock, thank you.)
"And then Thomas More, Hampton Court etc. etc. the end."
Watched in a seminar - hilarious
I love Simon also but you gotta love this too!
You should see the one where him and starkey are going head to head!
My soul mate will definitely get this!
I've never watched Simon Schama presenting one of his history series but as a student studying history at uni...this parody of historical documentaries is hilariously spot-on!
HA! Dead Ringers always made me laugh - "Yet Another History Program" is just so true to the way Simon Schama is.
Never seen this before and I'm a massive fan of Dead Ringers. Pissed myself laughing.
bloody brilliant
As his children's nanny.....so on point.
Awesome find! Can't believe I missed that! Thanks, I'm gonna order it, can't go wrong for £1.27 incl p&p lol!
Brillant writing
"Card"-inal Wolsey made me just fall apart.
Hard to beat Jon Culshaw.
He's not a "doctor"; he never bothered doing a Ph.D.
bless you and thanks
I LOVE Simon and this was dead funny!!!! Forgive me please!!!
gotta love dead ringers
Great impersonation 😂
Great!
This guy wiggles when he talks just like Schama does!
That simon impression is EXCELLENT he even does that moving of his head. I do like him though :)
Still funny in 2020.
This is spot on for him =)
Love it!!
Are they not on DVD already? I'm surprised. Great show.
i liked it :-)
i saw it in my AP Euro class
That was very funny!
Brilliant
"Thomas More, Hampton Court, etc. I'm off to count my money now."
Have you noticed about how the voice used for Schama is the same as Dale Winton's?
simon is cool i liked his rothko program alot, agree this was funny:)
Can someone explain that bit where he says "should he way" and points to that odd object on the scales?
that was really clever! haha
"of card-(shows "yet another" acrd)-inal Wolsey"
looool
Love Schama. Anyone who says he's light weight obviously hasn't read any Schama.
I love Schama, but this is funny.
Horrible stew
Brilliant!
Now do David Starkey.
how come this has got an advert? it's the beeb.
why am I hungry?
Actually made a lot of historical sense. Dharma's history of England and his history of the Jews are excellent programmes.
I second that!
His history of Briatain is very good.
wahaha. ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. xD
Same, but my AP Euro class is in New york.....
great!
Classic
@Wysthric should he "wait"... weight...lol

no mr. peters is our ap euro teacher in ohio. he showed us this too
Ah, 240p, we meet again.
its saying "should he wait??" and showing a weight on a scale... to illustrate what he's saying
sorry but what's with the "or shoul he weight his ___________" (finger points out ) ?
@AmethystEyes UGHHHHHHH
I thought that was it but because I couldn't hear him say the 't' I thought he was trying to weigh his options or something which was a bit less funny
Thanks! :)
Failing that, they should repeat the old episodes on BBC 3, GOLD or Dave, or bring them out on DVD.
0:25
Who even does this sort of alert, and how do you bust the BBC's finances in one show?
HA!
@caldonia2 Ditto!
Just looked on amazon, series one is one there fairly cheap.
?
i'm from wisconsin and i'm david...
HAHAHAHA
peters?
or should he wait. pointing to the little weight on the scales.
yet another History Programme..ha ha I like BBC
Card.... inal
"All hell broke loose" ! :L
Not as good as Harry Enfield s

Still better than David Starkey.
Talk about being damned with faint praise! Yes, okay, Schama is a better historian than David Starkey.
His "British" history is the usual English/Anglo-centric history, he's just part of the establishment.
He's a front wheel skid 🤣
he ought to work on the voice more.
This is actually cruel and not at all funny. How can you Brits claim to like Simon Schama and then laugh at a programme like this?
There's a clip of DR on "army fails" (i'm running out of search ideas :/) which brought me here cuz it reminded me of this very clip that got me watching the show!
