I am an indigenous woman who has worked in social services for over 40 years....the issues around DV, murder and missing women is a tragedy and Im inspired that you have taken on this issue on your channel.
i work in funeral services and death care and i see an astounding amount of murdered indigenous women come through my work. as an indigenous women myself, its heartbreaking and terrifying. it’s just as bad here in canada

This happens so much more than we realized. It's what makes this case all the more heartbreaking. I was researching the case for Jelani Day which will be up on my channel in the next few weeks and the hoops/red tape that the family had to jump through to get any exposure is unreal. I can't imagine having to go through that.

I just finished researching and sharing about a case from BC Canada 🇨🇦 on my channel and we talk about how indigenous women experience so much more neglect and violence than we realize.

Why aren't the male elders doing more to protect the women in their tribes??? Or are they taking bribes to allow the murders and/or trafficking??? I live in the UK. I had absolutely no idea there was such a disproportionate amount of unsolved cases in indigenous women. This is truly shocking. This should be known worldwide. Truly a disservice to these tribes. My thoughts and prayers go out to the community.
What no media will tell you is that indigenous men disappear without a trace four times more often than indigenous women. It’s just that very few people care, so no one knows that statistic. The trail of tears includes all genders.
I was going over these stats with one of my coworkers a couple months ago and he had no idea either and he had just moved from New Mexico which has a lot of native reservations.
The women are thought to be trafficked. It doesn't help the reservations are OVERRUN with alcohol and drugs. Domestic violence is a huge issue on the reservations too, as is poverty. Put all that together....
It’s the same here in Australia with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples… unless they are the perpetrators, law enforcement doesn’t seem to care about the victims. Basically, if you’re missing, don’t be a woman or indigenous… it’s awful!

He said she always randomly went into the woods alone with no explanation, that's sketchy. He said he seen her days after no one else hasn't, that just doesn't make sense. I do believe in a lot of cases of Indigenous women being trafficked and murdered, that the police departments are corrupt and are involved in the rings. There is an incredibly strong and powerful Native woman on TikTok who talks about her case TW: EXTREME violence against women! (she was kidnapped, sex trafficked, and eventually tried to get arrested so she could be found and the police sent her back to her captors instead of taking her to the department to be fingerprinted. Her captors then tried to brutally murder her and left her for dead but she miraculously survived. She exposed the ring and is getting justice against them.) As we all know, police can cover things up and do horrible, awful things to people with impunity and it’s outrageous and infuriating. I mean that 80% statistic Kendall quoted is heartbreaking. Corruption is absolutely involved.
I couldn't agree more with you here, there is such a disregard and it's heartbreaking to hear about/read about. I just finished researching and sharing a case on my little true crime channel about exactly that where the victims were not valued in the slightest and so that case carried on for over a decade. It's horrendous.

I am so grateful for this exposure on how poor the justice system treats not only the Indiginous community as a whole, but specifically Indiginous women. So many families with no justice or trust in the system to receive the justice they rightfully deserve.
@@smurfylee you have to keep in mind how much trauma our people have been through, residential schools and abuse from colonization runs in our blood now and we are still working through to try and overcome it. the men are just as affected by this as us women are. i truly hope this case gets exposure and gets answers for ashley and her family.
The federal government has its hands tied to a large extent. The reservations are considered sovereign nations, and it’s very difficult for US law enforcement to get anything done, or to even gain access to the evidence or to the reservations at all. Like Kendall said, the BIA law enforcement has done NOTHING with the evidence the family uncovered. The FBI has no access to that evidence.
Coming from a Native American mother and African American father, I thank you so much for shining the light on these missing women of color. Especially native women. They (statistically) go without the most justice, atm. I pray that this family will figure out what happened to this young woman, and that justice will be served.

I hate how predators seem to know that it's a logistical nightmare to investigate on reservations. It also shows that it's not just people ignoring the case, it's the law getting in the way of itself.

Yeah, it really is sad. I'm in Toronto, but went out to BC to work on HVAC systems in the remote telephone stations along the highways there. I spotted more than a few underage native girls hitchhiking, or passed out drinking Listerine or drugs. Some of them were so far from any towns that it's obvious they were just left there by someone. I saw one girl in Chilliwack face down in the middle of a parking lot, and the police just circled around her and took a quick look, then drove off. Not only does no one care about them, they're seen as a nuisance in most communities. All that Justin Trudeau campaign for them is a total act.

Thank you for covering this story I worked on a Apache reservation for 8 months doing service work for them and I LOVE them with all my heart I got to learn and see their hearts and culture and it’s amazing. The women are strong resilient and beautiful. While I was there so many went missing one was found chopped up in a box and no one ever did anything about it. So bringing their cases to light is HUGE thank you so so much.
@@vera944 I don't think it's necessarily not caring, I think it's being understaffed and underfunded. Those bureaus need to be better equipped to handle all those missing people. Even the evidence that's not processed - it's probably money they don't have to send it in for testing. So they just don't. It's so frustrating and heartbreaking but I think the responsibility should be to fund those bureaus more thoroughly especially if it's known to be so underfunded for such a huge amount of people who are hurt and violeted. I really don't understand why the government is not putting more money into those units and expand them if they know of the threat and epidemic. Maybe if the cases would be taken more seriously and solved, indigenous people wouldn't be attacked as much. No consequences is just an invitation for all those disgusting humans who are trying to hurt others and take advantage of a community.

it’s so disgusting that the family have done the most work in this case. it’s traumatic enough for you to lose a loved one, but when you know that the family are the only people that are truly following her disappearance trail - it really puts into perspective the injustice. i can not imagine how hard it is to have to go over everything the police does, just because they didn’t do it correctly; how difficult it is to keep fighting when nobody else is helping you find your answers. i hope ashley and her family receive their justice 🤍
Literally JUST lastnight I came to look at her videos thinking I needed some Kendall too and so was excited to see it pop up like a present in my feed today.
I grew up on this reservation when I was young and eventually my family chose to move to a different town outside the reservation because of the dangers there. I'm glad that you covered this case, when I saw Ashley's name I immediately clicked on the video although I know of the case. You cover cases with such grace. As a defendant of The BlackFoot Tribe my heart breaks at the statistics I just heard. I scream out loud WHY are they not listed as missing??? It’s like they are disposable or something and I get angry! Those beautiful women are mothers, sisters , daughters like any other woman that goes missing ! A movie on Netflix that really opened my eyes to missing Indigenous women was "Wind River". It's on Netflix and soo well done. It's intense, so TW, but very, very good. I recommend it to anyone whenever I can.

Thank you so much for discussing this case! I'm Native and have studied the laws and such around MMIW and it can be tricky to understand. I appreciate your thoughtfulness towards the situation and encouraging change! Another crazy thing is with sovereign government jurisdiction is that for the most part they aren't able to properly prosecute a nonnative and can only give a maximum of a year in prison even if it's the murder of a native girl/woman (there has been some policy change in this but still true on many reservations).
I pray so much that Ashley is ok and makes it back home. My heart goes out to Kimberly. She’s a wonderful Sister. I can’t imagine how hard it’s been for her and I’ll pray for her.
I live in Ronan Montana on the Flathead Native American Reservation and I remember hearing about her case. I remember when her photo went around on the Mission Valley safety page on Facebook... I also want to bring up Jermain Charlo. She went missing in my home town(Missoula Montana)and is still missing. 5 years later. I see her Billboard every weekend and it breaks my heart.
Omg! When Kimberly started crying and saying "Sometimes I wish there were two of me" ..."I feel like I don't know what I'm doing"... I lost it. Can't stop crying now, but soon I will, and get to signing the petitions and whatever else I can do to help. I hope everyone does. Those three people need to be investigated to the fullest! The meth world is hell on Earth and can turn people into monsters capable of the unimaginable. They know something. They know.

The circumstances of gabbys disappearance was what made it so intriguing to people. It was obvious that her boyfriend was the perpetrator. There was so much video of her right before it happened which made people feel connected to her . There's many white girls going missing that aren't publicized like gabby was.
I first learned of the atrocities of the BIA when I was a kid. Then later read about it in historical fiction. I was in my early 20s in the early aughts when I learned the BIA still existed and I was sickened. It boggles my mind how a government institution can continue with such a HORRIFIC past. I’m not sure what should replace but I imagine Indigenous communities would have some ideas about that. I know SOME things have changed within the BIA over the decades but the history is just so sad. We can send billions in foreign and military aid overseas but can’t manage to help our own Indigenous nations.

I have mad respect for the Blackfeet nation. Back at the turn of the millennium, I worked with them regarding ICWA (Indian Child Welfare Act). Good people. It was a pleasure working with them.
So I don’t live in an area where there are any reservations but I have law enforcement experience. I see everyone talking about how native women apparently just get murdered and go missing all the time and no one does anything about it but I haven’t seen a single person talk about how to actually fix it. Seems like some of it is due to reservation police departments being “under funded” (like most departments) and so they simply can’t work all the cases. So it’s native cops not working them? Maybe we should do away with reservations all together since apparently part of the issue is too many governments involved. I mean what is the solution?

I was researching the case for Jelani Day which will be up on my channel in the next few weeks and the hoops/red tape that the family had to jump through to get any exposure is unreal. literally one of the reasons i will always support this channel is how you talk about cases that are often swept under the rug. the lack of attention toward MMIW is genuinely heartbreaking & being Canadian, it literally makes me shake.

I live in the UK. I had absolutely no idea there was such a disproportionate amount of unsolved cases in indigenous women. This is truly shocking. This should be known worldwide. Truly a disservice to these tribes. My thoughts and prayers go out to the community.
What no media will tell you is that indigenous men disappear without a trace four times more often than indigenous women. It’s just that very few people care, so no one knows that statistic. The trail of tears includes all genders.
I was going over these stats with one of my coworkers a couple months ago and he had no idea either and he had just moved from New Mexico which has a lot of native reservations.

The women are thought to be trafficked. It doesn't help the reservations are OVERRUN with alcohol and drugs. Domestic violence is a huge issue on the reservations too, as is poverty. Put all that together....
It’s the same here in Australia with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples… unless they are the perpetrators, law enforcement doesn’t seem to care about the victims. Basically, if you’re missing, don’t be a woman or indigenous… it’s awful!

I do believe in a lot of cases of Indigenous women being trafficked and murdered, that the police departments are corrupt and are involved in the rings. There is an incredibly strong and powerful Native woman on TikTok who talks about her case TW: EXTREME violence against women! (she was kidnapped, sex trafficked, and eventually tried to get arrested so she could be found and the police sent her back to her captors instead of taking her to the department to be fingerprinted. Her captors then tried to brutally murder her and left her for dead but she miraculously survived. She exposed the ring and is getting justice against them.) As we all know, police can cover things up and do horrible, awful things to people with impunity and it’s outrageous and infuriating. I mean that 80% statistic Kendall quoted is heartbreaking. Corruption is absolutely involved.
I couldn't agree more with you here, there is such a disregard and it's heartbreaking to hear about/read about. I just finished researching and sharing a case on my little true crime channel about exactly that where the victims were not valued in the slightest and so that case carried on for over a decade. It's horrendous.

I am so grateful for this exposure on how poor the justice system treats not only the Indiginous community as a whole, but specifically Indiginous women. So many families with no justice or trust in the system to receive the justice they rightfully deserve.
The indigenous men need to seek help for their anger. They are hurting the women and not protecting them AT ALL.
@@smurfylee you have to keep in mind how much trauma our people have been through, residential schools and abuse from colonization runs in our blood now and we are still working through to try and overcome it. the men are just as affected by this as us women are. i truly hope this case gets exposure and gets answers for ashley and her family.
The federal government has its hands tied to a large extent. The reservations are considered sovereign nations, and it’s very difficult for US law enforcement to get anything done, or to even gain access to the evidence or to the reservations at all. Like Kendall said, the BIA law enforcement has done NOTHING with the evidence the family uncovered. The FBI has no access to that evidence.

Vancouver Island girl here 👋🏻 Anytime I drive out to the interior it shocks me to my core how many billboards/posters you pass about MMIW, and to think that it’s barely a fraction of the amount of indigenous people that have gone missing in our province is insane. Also while I’m grateful they’re finally working on uncovering the horrors of the residential schools, that number is also sickening when you think about the fact that these were children as young as 4

Yeah, it really is sad. I'm in Toronto, but went out to BC to work on HVAC systems in the remote telephone stations along the highways there. I spotted more than a few underage native girls hitchhiking, or passed out drinking Listerine or drugs. Some of them were so far from any towns that it's obvious they were just left there by someone. I saw one girl in Chilliwack face down in the middle of a parking lot, and the police just circled around her and took a quick look, then drove off. Not only does no one care about them, they're seen as a nuisance in most communities. All that Justin Trudeau campaign for them is a total act.

Thank you for covering this story I worked on a Apache reservation for 8 months doing service work for them and I LOVE them with all my heart I got to learn and see their hearts and culture and it’s amazing. The women are strong resilient and beautiful. While I was there so many went missing one was found chopped up in a box and no one ever did anything about it. So bringing their cases to light is HUGE thank you so so much.

@@vera944 I don't think it's necessarily not caring, I think it's being understaffed and underfunded. Those bureaus need to be better equipped to handle all those missing people. Even the evidence that's not processed - it's probably money they don't have to send it in for testing. So they just don't. It's so frustrating and heartbreaking but I think the responsibility should be to fund those bureaus more thoroughly especially if it's known to be so underfunded for such a huge amount of people who are hurt and violeted. I really don't understand why the government is not putting more money into those units and expand them if they know of the threat and epidemic. Maybe if the cases would be taken more seriously and solved, indigenous people wouldn't be attacked as much. No consequences is just an invitation for all those disgusting humans who are trying to hurt others and take advantage of a community.

Honestly in all of the other docs about Ashley that I've watched V Dog's girlfriend's interviews creep me out but I have terrible red flag detectors.

I grew up on this reservation when I was young and eventually my family chose to move to a different town outside the reservation because of the dangers there. I'm glad that you covered this case, when I saw Ashley's name I immediately clicked on the video although I know of the case. You cover cases with such grace. A movie on Netflix that really opened my eyes to missing Indigenous women was "Wind River". It's on Netflix and soo well done. It's intense, so TW, but very, very good. I recommend it to anyone whenever I can.

Thank you so much for discussing this case! I'm Native and have studied the laws and such around MMIW and it can be tricky to understand. I appreciate your thoughtfulness towards the situation and encouraging change! Another crazy thing is with sovereign government jurisdiction is that for the most part they aren't able to properly prosecute a nonnative and can only give a maximum of a year in prison even if it's the murder of a native girl/woman (there has been some policy change in this but still true on many reservations).
I pray so much that Ashley is ok and makes it back home. My heart goes out to Kimberly. She’s a wonderful Sister. I can’t imagine how hard it’s been for her and I’ll pray for her.
T, Paul, and Sam all know more than they're letting on, and at least one of them probably knows EXACTLY what happened to Ashley.

I live in Ronan Montana on the Flathead Native American Reservation and I remember hearing about her case. I remember when her photo went around on the Mission Valley safety page on Facebook...
I also want to bring up Jermain Charlo. She went missing in my home town(Missoula Montana)and is still missing. 5 years later. I see her Billboard every weekend and it breaks my heart.
Omg! When Kimberly started crying and saying "Sometimes I wish there were two of me" ..."I feel like I don't know what I'm doing"... I lost it. Can't stop crying now, but soon I will, and get to signing the petitions and whatever else I can do to help.

imagine if EVERY missing person got the same amount of attention and resources dedicated to their case as Gabby Petito. a lot more families wouldn't be living their own special brand of hell.

@@gabrielleroussel6676 I'm aware. that's why I didn't propose it as a concrete solution, notice the word "imagine", but there's plenty of room in between "every missing person getting coverage as saturated as Petito" and "it's unrealistic" and we have a LOT of room to move towards said middle ground. and is it really that unrealistic?? true crime has a massive audience. in a world where the elite are seriously working with a goal to colonize Mars I don't think it's THAT unrealistic a goal for all missing ppl to get the same coverage as Gabby Petito. if enough mega rich ppl wanted it it would already be done. it's troubling that your very first response on a comment such as mine, on a video of a missing and possibly murdered Indigenous woman, is to immediately shut it down as "unrealistic" 🙃

The circumstances of gabbys disappearance was what made it so intriguing to people. It was obvious that her boyfriend was the perpetrator. There was so much video of her right before it happened which made people feel connected to her . There's many white girls going missing that aren't publicized like gabby was.

I first learned of the atrocities of the BIA when I was a kid. Then later read about it in historical fiction. I was in my early 20s in the early aughts when I learned the BIA still existed and I was sickened. It boggles my mind how a government institution can continue with such a HORRIFIC past. I’m not sure what should replace but I imagine Indigenous communities would have some ideas about that. I know SOME things have changed within the BIA over the decades but the history is just so sad. We can send billions in foreign and military aid overseas but can’t manage to help our own Indigenous nations.
As an indigenous women myself, i really appreciate how much you genuinely care about the lives of indigenous women. You are one of the only youtubers who has covered multiple cases about mmiw. So thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I have mad respect for the Blackfeet nation. Back at the turn of the millennium, I worked with them regarding ICWA (Indian Child Welfare Act). Good people. It was a pleasure working with them.
So I don’t live in an area where there are any reservations but I have law enforcement experience. I see everyone talking about how native women apparently just get murdered and go missing all the time and no one does anything about it but I haven’t seen a single person talk about how to actually fix it. Seems like some of it is due to reservation police departments being “under funded” (like most departments) and so they simply can’t work all the cases. So it’s native cops not working them?
Maybe we should do away with reservations all together since apparently part of the issue is too many governments involved.
I mean what is the solution?

I’m about halfway through but I’m certainly disappointed Kendall didn’t mention this!! Payne gathered so much information on this case. Definitely worth spreading the word
@@carrieharlow435 that was my thoughts. I made that comment and Kendall did respond that she wasn't aware of it, and didn't use it as a reference for the case. That saddens me, because that just goes to show its not getting out there like it should.

What a heartbreaking case. My heart goes out to Ashley's family. Kimberly is a brave and strong advocate for her sister; it's just sad how much she has had to do to fight for her since law enforcement has once again failed missing indigenous women.

This case hits home for me. She is my age I was born in November of ‘96. She seemed like such an amazing and kind woman.
