We were acquainted with the pilot who flew the plane that killed Buddy Holly & Ritchie Valens. He had just been married a very short time before the plane crash in a field not far from our home in Iowa. We were so sad about all those who died.

The very first mention of Glen Miller showed the wrong photograph. Also, the year before,1943, Leslie Howard, who played Ashley Wilkes in “Gone With the Wind”, was killed in a crash of a KLM commercial airplane that was shot down by Nazi soldiers. The Nazis bragged about what they had done,even though it was a blatant violation of the Geneva Convention. There were three other VIPs on the plane besides Howard, including the head of Shell Oil.
An irony of this situation is that three of the top four cast members died prematurely: Leslie Howard, Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh. However, Olivia De Havilland, whose character died in the movie,lived to be 104.

Glenn Miller was an accident while an allied bomber was unloading some bombs in the English Channel , the tail Gunner noticed they being followed by a below them a C-47 or C-46 ,as the soon they approaching land the tail gunner noticed the plane suddenly disappeared , It was speculated one of the bombs smashed into the transport. Oh , you forgot Audie Murphy.
