Thanks for watching!

You should be super proud of this project. I have all sorts of toys to help me build boxes, but your "get-it-done-with-what-I-have" attitude is what makes this an awesome build. And it turned out great!
thanks!
My son is getting married in a few weeks and I was asked to make the box for the ring bearer to hold. I figured like other first time projects I take on I'd watch a video or three of other hobbyists doing the same thing. I watched dudes use CNC, highspeed tools, slide vise's and who knows what else. In the end your approach was the best in my opinion. It wasn't over engineered and the solution was a simple concept that anyone with a few basic tools and scraps of wood can accomplish. Keep up the good work!
That's awesome - yea I definitely made this long before I had big tools at my disposal (basically had the planer and a chop saw, and a router) - but most of the steps I figured out along the way. Only thing I'd do different is maybe try to round the top a bit more versus the chamfered look, but it worked out well in the end if you know what I mean!
The box made your engagement all the more special!!! Love you!
Nice job! It was refreshing to watch a woodworking video made with the same kind of consumer grade tools in a garage like I have rather than fancy high end stuff in a dedicated workshop :) Keep up the good work and congrats on the engagement!
Thanks! I think having a great shop is a long term goal. In the immediate, I find I get creative in how I build things and find fun ways to work around what I have. Thanks for watching and the praise!
Who ever doesn't appreciate art needs to go somewhere else. I LOVE IT! Congratulations on your engagement may God send his blessings for a long and wonderful marriage.
I just customized my wife's engagement ring and band for our 21st anniversary, yeah can't believe it. I was also looking for something custom. Keep up the great work. I would give up my career in a heartbeat and do this beautiful work.
Thanks for the kind words! I'd love to give up my career and do it full time too!
The Cutting Bored .
I am sure that you are very busy.
If I give you a rough sketch for custom idea for a box would you be able to create it for me? I still need something custom to put the custom rings in.

Thanks
nice work your voice over is well done! congratulations on the engagement
thanks! appreciate it!
Very nice! I also appreciate how you're able to create such a great project with just basic tools. Well done.
I prefer the the way the ring pocket came out using the router verses a forstner bit, nice idea with that!
Thanks! I was pretty nervous for this step having never done something - as you can tell, I took my sweet time with it!
Very well done, especially considering the limited tools you had at your disposal! Congrats
thanks man!
Ive watched this video like 10 times. In my opinion the best video I’ve seen on this
Haha thanks man - appreciate the nice words. My fiance agrees with you - although I think she might be biased...
you do great work, and I can't wait to see your channel blow up like it deserves!
thanks man - appreciate that - shares and subs is all i can ask for - thanks!
Congrats! As far as the router table, just use a few pieces of plywood to mount it. Super simple. And still works great as long the router has some depth adjustment.
Agreed - I should just DIY one. I'm currently not accumulating new tools - just really low on space!
Also have to say, really nice work and man you managed to install barrel hinges using a hand drill, I can barely get those right using a stand up press, great work and congratulations
This is the first time on your channel and this is such a romantic thing to do! The finished product looked lovely and the ring is beautiful!
Thank you! Was a lot of fun to build in secret!
Do the barrel hinges stay closed well or are they loose? I'm trying to find a way to have the box stay relatively firmly shut unless I apply force to open it. Not a ton of force, just enough that it wouldn't just fall open in a suitcase or pocket
They stay closed well. They aren't "snappy" like a regular jewelry box, but they have enough friction in the hinge to provide a very stable open / closed setting. Having travelled with it to my proposal desitnation (suitcase, pocket, etc.) it stayed closed no problem.
A small trick I discovered was to rotate each hinge ever so slightly (i'm talking like 1-2° tops) so that they were facing inwards - that tension of having something open at 90° but the hinges be offset slightly so they're working a bit against that angle created even better friction. Let me know if that makes sense.
Lastly - if you were super paranoid, you could always add very small magnets to the lid and box so that when it is closed, the magnets touch and keep it closed. Lots of ways to DIY hack it - good luck!
Well done !! Your voice over doesn't sound monotone and "robotic". Very nice video!
Thanks for watching and the compliment!
Well done! I appreciate the dramatic action shots
Thanks!
Just imagine how awesome a dad he'll be.
Why didn't you just use a miter saw instead of the Sawzall?
I am having a hell of a time getting the jig to fit well enough that it's tight around the block without any movement. Would you have just used Forstner bits and then chiseled out the inside? Also do you think a mortise bit would have worked better? I'm trying to recreate this and am just having some issues because I'm a beginner, thanks.
Miter saw would have been way too sketchy with my hand that close to the blade. You can definitely just do a Forsner bit and keep it circular if you don’t want to worry about chiseling
Great job! Looks beautiful and functions well. Can’t ask for much more.
thanks! she loved it!
This was really helpful. The ring pillow part in particular.
not my best work, but as a novice, it was all I could come up with in a short time frame
I used your inspiration to make a box for my GF’s ring. I’m close to being done. Put the hinges in today.
thats awesome - send me a pic on IG when you're done. Hinges were one of the most challenging parts for me!
Supper cool, man! Love the creativity. Nice work!
Thanks man!
The box looks beautiful! I hope you like your girlfriend!
i do, but just slightly :-)
fantastic. I am looking for a nice design ring box to build for the same reason. I will follow your design. thank you. beautiful engagement ring also.
Cool! Thanks for checking out!
I love this! A lot of love went into making it for sure. Congratulations!
It was a lot of fun! Thanks for watching!
Great Box and Congratulations!
Thanks!
Very nice! The box looks fantastic.
thanks dude!
Where did you find that kind of hinge?
Amazon. Link in description
pretty cool, missing the lights!
Since this is an old video, hopefully you have a router table now. I did what you were doing there one day just to run a few sample profiles for my wife to choose from. The router grabbed one of the pieces and pulled my finger in it. That was the last time I did that.
I do - but even for this video, I should have just used the belt sander - I had seen Mike from Modern Builds do this and (as a beginner) probably didn't fully understand the danger of it
Great look! I love it
Thanks!
Wow it's beautiful! The box, the ring, it's all fantastic!
Hopefully you already did the thing and/or she doesn't watch your videos lol.
Congratulations on your engagement!!!
Did it on Friday! Had to keep it a secret until then and figured posting the vid Tuesday was the best move!
The Cutting Bored Congratulations! So happy for you guys!!!
Where did you get those hinges if you don’t mind
Amazon - there is a link in the description
Absolutely beautiful in every way.
thank you!
Nicely done. The box turned out great! And congrats? (Did she say yes?)
She did! I just updated the description - really blew it on letting people know the end result!
The Cutting Bored Awesome! Congrats!
Nice build i though the way you held the ring in place was a good idea and looked good
nice job! I'm going to give it a try!
Have fun!
Beautiful box and ring!
thank you!
what did you use to put the angle on the bottom
benchtop disc sander
The Cutting Bored I have that but how did he put the angle on. The level seemed to stay at 90 degrees not 45
Did you watch the video? Platform is 90° to the disk on the x axis, Miter gauge is at 45° to the disc on the y axis, then sand down. It's at the 6:42 mark...
You did an amazing job and she is super lucky to have you! Congratulations all the way around! Great, beautiful box, it will be a forever keepsake for her! :-)
thanks!
A back saw has very fine teet you,d want something bigger like a panel saw or Ryoba
Good effort to impress you girl. Good one
+Abhishek saha Thanks - I’d say she was just slightly more stoked on the ring than the build haha
What part of the country do you live in? Just curious. Also yeah that drawing is no bueno check out sketchup it's free and pretty easy to learn via youtube
I'm in southern California - and yea the drawing was just a brainstorm doodle while I had a free moment at work. It became one of those things I couldn't not think about.
And yea - barrel hinges - that part had me reallll nervous :-)
love this so much!!
Great job, God bless you and your future wife :)
Thanks!
looking so nice
Thanks!
woo- Congrats!
Thanks!
Amazing!
Thanks!
and she said......... "YES!"
She did!
So did she say yes?
skip ahead to the wedding arch video :-)
bro you use so much glue
And?
Не хочу оскорблять мастера... но сделано несколько неаккуратно. По-моему надо было получше отшлифовать поверхности и грани. А так задумка отличная.
Did anyone else cringe when the glueing job was done
Don't get me wrong it was a nice box but still
I did. Definitely :-)
