This isn't rare in anime at all, in fact its very cliche and doesnt make a good love story because almost every anime does this or a yandere/tsundere type of thing, also Kirito and Asuna are way too mature in this relationship. In my opinion the abridged version fixes this relationship and creates an interesting and unique love story

The anime cut out a lot of Kirito and Asuna scenes like how they kissed after Kirito beat PoH. It’s really not the author’s fault since Reki absolutely loves Kirito and Asuna’s relationship and always states how the story is about them and their relationship, but rather the director of the Alicization anime likes to shine more light towards Kirito and Alice even though they are just companions.
@@Luminous985 the anime is kinda bad after season 1 in terms of adapting Kirito and Asuna. It also likes to play up the other girls when Reki said literally nobody apart from Kirito and Asuna is possible or will ever happen. S3 suffers especially cause so many key scenes are cut out for the sake of adapting all of the human realm arc in 2 Cours. My main consumption of SAO content is now the novels and I'm so glad because it's just better in every way
