    I just fixed some of my DIY installation mistakes. Please watch this video and see how I connected this whole house dehumidifier to my HVAC blower fan. I also added a condensate overflow safety switch. th-cam.com/video/En1CghNt-T0/w-d-xo.html

    You inspired me to take the plunge and install a E080. Like you, I chose a platform over hanging the unit. My platform was attached to the trusses. To quiet the vibration I swapped out the 2"x4" wooden spacer you used for blocks of styrofoam. I alternated that with pieces cut from an extra yoga mat I had. Worked great.
    Here how I sandwiched things:
    1 - 2' x 3' piece of yoga mat between the plywood platform and the condensate pan
    2 - 3.5" x 24" strips of the mat inside the pan on both sides under the feet location
    1 - 3.5" x 24" styrofoam elevation block each side over the mat strips. I used 1" because that's what I had.
    2 - 4" x 4" pieces of mat over the foam under each foot location
    1 - 4" x 4" styrofoam block under each foot to add height
    1 - 4" X 4" piece of something to keep the feet from sinking into the foam. I used some hard rubber garage flooring I had, but a square of plywood or whatever will work.
    The end result was in the neighborhood of 2.5 inches tall. Plenty for the drain line to clear the pan.
    Almost zero vibration gets though that sandwich. No more hum. My installation uses a dedicated intake and exhaust. I used an Aprilaire thermostat so that I could turn off the "call for fan". I didn't want the moisture from the wet AC coil to come back in the house every time the dehumidifier ran. I also wanted a single box to control both the heat pump and the dehumidifier. The house is now a perfect 79* with 45% humidity. For Florida, that is fantastic.

    I’ve hook my Aprilaire Dehumidifier up every way possible. You want to hook your return as high as you can get it and feed the supply line to the lowest level of the home with its on register. When I hooked it to the HVAC supply, in the summer when the blower blows to mix the air from the dehumidifier running, the humidity would actually raise until the evaporator coil would dry. It works but far less efficient.

      im not sure why this person ran the ducts for dehum the way he did. I normally come off the return of the hvac unit into the dehum out to the supply plenum after the coil. This way when the ac unit reaches setpoint and shuts off your not putting humidity back into the space when the dehum runs.

    Your air passing thru your dehumidifier is getting dry, but when you dump the dry air below the coil in the air handler, your passing that air thru a wet coil, that's just re wetting the air, just a heads up, (12 plus years hvac installer)

  • @MrCadillactruck05

    Man, as a hvac professional that pretty looks good. Just blocking the doors for the units wouldn't pass code and you couldn't work on it at all

    Yes you have a very large restriction factor with flex duct. You can eliminate a whole lot of ductwork by installing an elbow at the supply air outlet

    Can hook the return from a supply of an ERV? Building a recording studio and will use ERV for fresh air but will need a dehumidifier down here on the gulf coast where it’s liquid air for most of the year. The A/C will be split units.

    RE your spray foam insulation. My guys sprayed over the wood rafters. Thermal imaging shows that wood lets cold and heat by so covering the wood helps with insulation.

  • @ncooty
    @ncooty ปีที่แล้ว

    @20:22: The different RHs are a function of wiring and airflow. You probably wired it to run with the signal wire for the evap fan, so it'll only run when the fan runs. Second, that dehumidifier has a much lower air flow (1,000 CFM), so you're dehumidifying a portion of the return air and only when the evap fan runs. (Granted, the A/C also dehumidifies.)

  • @lifeaccordingtobri
    @lifeaccordingtobri 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    nice video. One thing I noticed is your output of the dehumidifier into your "Y" will not work correctly I believe. Unless you have a damper in place between the HVAC return grill and the "Y" the dehumidified air will take the path of least resistance and flow right out that grill near your dehumidifier return making an air loop essentially. I believe Aprilaire has the ability to trigger the HVAC blower only to circulate the dehumidified air throughout the house.

    • @G00dstuff247
      @G00dstuff247 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. If he's just running the dehumidifier alone it won't go through the hvac but instead will loop back into the room. At least he's dehumidifiing something which will eventually spread throughout the house...

  • @GregoryGuay

    So, with the Tee, you are sending DeHumidified air back into the HVAC (return) AND back into the house for recirculation?

    • @BrantleyBlended
      @BrantleyBlended  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That was possible when I first installed this dehumidifier, as shown in this video. I posted an update video where I connected the dehumidifier to the HVAC blower. Now, every time the dehumidifier turns on, it turns on the HVAC blower. That helps circulate the dehumidified air through the house much better.

  • @2purplemartin1

    Question. Did you have an issue with the drain. Reason I’m asking is the airhandler is negative air and will pull negative air from your dehumidifier and into the airhandler, especially if the main trap goes dry. This will cause the air to push the water away from the drain. Just a heads up.

    Fine video. Look at AprilAire specs for connecting your E80 supply duct to the supply duct of your house AC. That mixture should be drier than your space air and therefore absorb your undesired space humidity better. FYI.

    • @BrantleyBlended
      @BrantleyBlended  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ERV is not saving me any money. It doesn't really cost me much either now that the installation is done. It draws very little power so it doesn't run up the power bill. I spent about $3000 to install my ERV. I regret it now. I wish I had my money back. Also, the ERV requires cleaning every 3 months. I'm tired of cleaning it all the time. I should've installed fresh air intakes on my 2 HVAC units. It would have been cheaper and requires no cleaning.
