I have to agree with a comment below... that this is one of the very best video's on TH-cam... helpful, detailed, no stuttering or stammering, right to the point... SUPERB !
My climate control system works again thanks to this video. Ozzstar is a great mechanic because he is experienced, clever and is not afraid to take something apart.
People like you are GREAT! Please multiply yourself!! Even if the attempted repairs fail the care and consideration are worth way more than money savings...from those of us decent caring people out here----THANK YOU
Thanks very much for posting this video Glen. My '93 Ruby's climate control buttons were sticking and one of the bulbs was intermittent. I followed your instructions exactly and she's back to working like a charm. The pencil eraser idea is genious! Didn't even need Taz to get it done....
I recently purchased a 93 C4 and the climate control was really hard to operate. Followed this process and it works perfectly now. Thanks for the video.
This was a great instructional video. My 1995 climate control was just about dead and is now fully functional. Really appreciated the quality instructions that are complete with the things to watch out for and avoid damaging the unit.
Did this today on my 93, perfect fix! The single most helpful video I've ever watched-no b.s.- and it works!!! Took a little over an hour, methodical and careful wins.
I am experiencing this exact problem. My control head sometimes works perfectly on my 90 C4 and sometimes not. I was going to send it out for a rebuild but now I'm gong to do it myself. I like the way you do a step by step explanation of how to do repairs. I've been turning wrenches since the early 70's. Happy to say you just taught this old dog some new tricks. First time watching you but it won't be my last. Great Job
I followed directions exactly & my 94 Corvette Climate Control is now fixed. This has been 10 years of frustration that was fixed in 2 hours. Thank you. PS: I also had to remove the console elbow rest off, 4 phillips drive screws... real simple. Thanks again
IT WORKS! Frustrated and unable to use the climate control unit, it seemed to have a mind of its own. Sometimes it would work, most of the time it wouldn't, buttons wouldn't respond, thought I would have to buy a new one. After watching your video I felt sure of myself and followed your directions...disassembled and cleaned the contacts...reinstalled the unit...and now it's working perfectly! One small problem I had was getting the rear wiring harness to fit back into the left cutout behind the climate control unit while reinstalling. I zip tied some split wire loom around the harness and it went back easily. Perfect! Everything works like it was new! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO.
Hey Ozzstar, i just fixed the same issue on my c4 CE earlier today. Took me like an hour and everything works again. Your video was always very helpful. Keep them coming and thanks for the detail video.. Cheers!!!!
hey ozz just cleaned my climate control contacts on 1991 c4 vet . total success exactly like your video. total success and I had no idea what was wrong when I started . local shop wanted 1000 dollars
I was having the exact same problem as you. Followed the video and now all of my buttons work properly. Thank you so much. You saved me over $400. I really appreciate this and hope everyone that sees this will give it a try!!!!!!
PERFECT!! I hope you know how much we all appreciate your vids. My 93 is cherry and all original. The AC head was the only problem on this 20 k mile beauty. Problem was just as you described. I followed your post to the letter and now I have a perfect C4 with great AC and Heat. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
This worked great! I had all of the C4 climate control problems as described in my 96. Watched your video and followed the step by step instructions. Its great to have like new smooth working controls again! Thanks a bunch for sharing your video!!
Thanks Ozzstar! Just finished this repair on my 1994 Corvette. Followed your Video Step by Step and it is working like new again! Saved me a bunch of money! You are the man!
What an excellent video! I am on my 3rd HVAC unit in my 1993, which I have owned since 1996. Symptoms were exactly the same but now I know how to do it myself. Thanks again for this great how-to!
Worked great! What a relief and an easy fix. I replaced the heater core last summer and when none of the controls worked this spring I thought maybe I'd messed something up when I did the heater core. Great to know that I didn't.
Great video! This has been a problem in my 92 for two years now.....going to tackle this project now after watching your video. Thank you for taking the time and sharing this repair video. Regards Dominick
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. My car is a 96 so I had the vacuum module issue too. I fixed it a few days ago but knew I had another problem still. Glad I ran across this video. Some of my parts fit a little differently but the information was still very helpful. My HVAC is working perfectly now. Thanks again!!!!
Great video! I had this exact same problem with a ‘94 that I bought from a private seller. I never would have thought to clean the contact points. Great step-by-step. Saved me hundreds of dollars
I did this for my 1986. It sort of worked but didn't last. I tried again and used Deoxit on the contacts. The 1986 also has solder covered sliding contacts. I carefully used a soldering iron to renew the solder and thicken it (I'd cleaned it with fine sandpaper previously). It all works now.
Just followed your instruction and my unit now works perfectly. I substituted rubbing alcohol for electrical cleaner. I sprayed some into it's own cap and used cotton swab. I also used it on the electrical connectors. Thank you! You saved me quite a bit of time and money.
Oh boy, what a life saver. Just bought (barn find) a 93 with 30k, bone stock. First owner was an engineer with GM, second owner had last 15 years. Minor issues, one including the Group #1 Electronic a/c panel not working right. Almost ordered a new one, but will in the next few days, take my time and do what you recommend..... I'm sure it'll work... Thanks from an old man in Hawaii........
Couldn't wait a few days, started, carefully, taking it apart as per your video which was clear and helpful. Once apart, I was able to open the unit and did the cleaning with an eraser and alcohol. I also did one other step and that was to clean those parts that touch the board when you push each button and found them a little dirty also.......... Assembled it all back together and "bingo" it all works as designed. Again, thanks for taking the time to put this video together, going to see if you have others on the 93 that I might be able to use....... aloha, arte
That great news Arte, thanks for your comment and I'm glad it worked out well for you. This video has saved people lots of money and I'm glad to help out. I do have many videos some including the C4 generation Vettes. I took a tour of the Bowling Green Kentucky Corvette Assembly plant a few days ago and it was amazing! Building the new 2017 model now....if you ever get to the mainland, check it out! Thanks for your comment and I'll see you on the next '93 Corvette vid.....take it easy - Ozz
I have a 1996 LT1 coupe, The climate control buttons did not work, was stuck on 70 degrees could not turn the unit off. I remove the control unit cleaned the pins & boards then reinstalled. Now all buttons work great. Thank you!
I just bought a 1990 ZR-1 that had been sitting for about 5 years. I am reworking everything, am having trouble with instrument cluster, no lcd, no warning lights, no indicators and no tones of any kind. I have the dash apart now and did confirm power to cluster from all sources, took it apart and all bulb holders are rusted and a lot of greenish corrosion, think I'm going to buy the Batee rebuild kit for it. My climate control needs attention also, thanks for posting this video really helps a lot. I got a ways to go on her but hopefully by fall she will be back together and smoking some tires. 👍👍🏁
That's a cool Vette to have! Be sure to find out why the corrosion occurred and make sure the leak is fixed. I'd like to film some LT5 repairs if I had a C4 ZR1 to work on. 👍 -Glen
So, I just left you a message about the Targa Top material repair. Now I find this on the Control Head for the A/C. Great! You are definitely the guy to know for repairs on my 90 Corvette.
Thank you sooo much - I was soooo distressed not knowing how to turn on the stupid AC in the 95 Corvette! It was different single time - turning on the AC - it would work and then wouldn't work. I'm sure my husband can do this!!
I don't have control on my head, except for a few buttons. Bro, i gotta admit, even watching you go through, it is still kind of intimidating. I'll keep you posted. Great video! Thanks!
I know this vid is 5 years old, but this tutorial is awesome. Just followed this to repair mine on my 94 and it worked like a charm. Oh rapture - LOL. Thanks.
+racerxf12004 that's good news, glad the fix worked out well for you. I should have left a tip jar out a longtime ago....lol Take it easy and thanks for commenting/watching the vid - Ozz
Thanks so much for the instructional video, my 1996 C4 issue is I lose ALL power to my automatic climate control unit intermittently. the unit turns complete off, not lights, temp, fan etc. This video will help me remove and inspect the climate control. Thanks again for sharing.
You are welcome Dlatin. Hopefully this repair will cure the problem your car is having, if not it's time for check into the climate control module and the blower motor control module (fan resistor). Good luck with the repair and thanks for commenting
Thx for this. I just did the work and am not putting back in. Took me 30 minutes total work. Such a simple fix for a really bothersome issue. Nothing like not having your AC turn on when it is 90 plus and the car has been sitting in the sun for a few hours.
Great video, I bought a 94, and the ac worked fine but two weeks later the controller wasn't working. I thought I just got a nightmare. But, I followed your video and everything works great, it took me about 2 hours, but I was taking my time. Thanks for the help. P
Paul Saunders nice repair! Glad to help ya out Paul. Now you can spend all that money you just saved doing something else to the car......or buy me a beer?? lol You take it easy and thanks for commenting - Ozz
hey Ozzstar, just finished doing this on my 95 and it works beautifully!!! Thanks so much for posting this great video, and keep 'em coming!!! Again, a thousand thanks!!!!!
Great video tutorial!!! I followed your video and performed the same repair on my 1993. It works great now and I don't have to buy a new A/C control unit. Thanks man keep up the awesome videos I really enjoy your channel!
I also did the blower resistor repair because it wouldn't stop. I got the replacement on Amazon for $40 and followed your instructions. Boom problems solved. I'm saving to buy willwood brakes and I also need new shocks. Thanks to you I'll have a guide to know how to do the job. I was wondering though I have the FX3 shocks on my 1993 are they any different than the ones you did? I'd appreciate any advice you might have. Thanks
Enjoy all of your vids...this was excellent. One suggestion...you do not have to use the pencil eraser. Use Caig Deoxit...Spray it completely and it chemically cleans all of it...safely..I use it on computer boards...and yesterday the resistor on my vette ignition key kept it from starting. sprayed inside the switch and the keys...fired right up. Use it on my motorcoach relays, hydraulic system switches. Works great. fwiw...Thanks...I will take my head unit out and you prob saved me a ton of bucks...+++!!
This is the greatest video ever made in the history of mankind! I used this video to exorcise the gremlin that had taken over the CC in my '95. Thanks!
These cars are a lot of fun. Take one step at a time. Steve if you click the 3 small dots to the right of the comment there is an 'edit' tab...corrects the typos. 😉 Take care
Awesome video. I just bought a 96 that has the same problem. Same buttons as yours intermittently working. Going to do this contact cleaning soon....Also, I have that same shirt! Thanks!!!
Cool ! Thank you...Working on a 98 vette...fan motor stays running, think it might be the relay switch, but, I also have problem with front face the buttons do not work to good, so I will clean like you said and hope that takes care of one of my two problems....Thanks again.....................Bobby
my 96 had everything working except the heat. all the control buttons and a/c worked properly. i was told it was the blend door motor. so i took it out, put power to it, the motor turned the shaft both ways without any problems. i played with the door while the motor was out and it swung both ways with out any problems. so i put the motor back in and i might have had the door and shaft open now where it was probably closed before so now i only get heat and not ac. would this get the blend door to work properly also? thanks, tom
Good eye. That is upside down and during editing I neglected to show the rubber piece going back correctly the way it came out. Sorry for the confusion.
Nice video and easy to understand. I have a 90 C4 with the same digital control. I changed the heater core and now the control appears to power up, display lights up, but no numbers appear and no controls function. It was a little sporadic before the heater core work. Would you guess it just needs a good clean up or would there be something external not getting signals to it?
Ron Bland the repair in this video may solve your issue. Do it yourself and it's free. Cleaning the control head unit contacts will solve many of the issues you are describing. If it doesn't, then you need to start diagnosing the climate control programmer which is located up under the dash, driver side and is attached to vacuum tubes. Let me know how it works out for you Ron - Ozz
I am in the process of doing this fix and hoping it works. It's taking a bit longer since I am waiting on replacement LED bulbs before I put things back together. While cleaning the contacts I wondered how they worked. Turns out there are small black electrically conductive dots inside each of the bubbles on the gray plastic piece. I gently forced them inside out and did a very light scrub with the clean pencil eraser and lots of black came off them too. So maybe if you go to all the trouble to tear the A/C head apart you should also do this additional simple step. I'll report back in if the fix shown in this video solved my problem.
Fantastic video with excellent verbal description
Thanks
your info. is priceless . As a new 91' C4 owner and already 30 years old finding detail directions is quite difficult Thank you sir
No prob Ken, you're welcome.
I followed/did this today and it worked as advertised. Same symptoms same results. Thanks
What a good feeling.

I'm saving to buy willwood brakes and I also need new shocks. Thanks to you I'll have a guide to know how to do the job. I was wondering though I have the FX3 shocks on my 1993 are they any different than the ones you did? I'd appreciate any advice you might have. Thanks
Thanks Tony, glad the repair worked out well for you.

Yes Deoxit is good stuff. Just didn't have any on hand at the time. Let me know how things go and thanks for watching the vids. -Glen

Very helpful. My 90 Corvette spent too much time in the Seattle weather. I hope that when I year into mine it will look that clean. Go Seahawks

These cars are a lot of fun. Take one step at a time. Steve if you click the 3 small dots to the right of the comment there is an 'edit' tab...corrects the typos. 😉 Take care

Cool ! Thank you...Working on a 98 vette...fan motor stays running, think it might be the relay switch, but, I also have problem with front face the buttons do not work to good, so I will clean like you said and hope that takes care of one of my two problems....Thanks again.....................Bobby
Hopefully it will solve the problem Robert. Thanks for commenting and watching
Was just about to buy another control unit. Will try this first. Thanks.
my 96 had everything working except the heat. all the control buttons and a/c worked properly. i was told it was the blend door motor. so i took it out, put power to it, the motor turned the shaft both ways without any problems. i played with the door while the motor was out and it swung both ways with out any problems. so i put the motor back in and i might have had the door and shaft open now where it was probably closed before so now i only get heat and not ac.
would this get the blend door to work properly also?
thanks, tom
Most likely not. Newer cars the blend doors are computer controlled and they can be calibrated with a scan tool.
At 7:10 you pull apart the 2 pieces the rubber tabs of the gaskets are down when you put it back together the tips are up ?
Good eye. That is upside down and during editing I neglected to show the rubber piece going back correctly the way it came out. Sorry for the confusion.
Thank You! I have the same problem. Will be dealing with it in the winter.
This video is awesome. Answers a lot of questions and concerns for me. I dealing with the same issues as you were. Thanks
You are welcome, thanks for the comment.
Very informative and easy to follow thanks!!
Glad it was helpful!
Ill be using this on my brother in laws 91 vette. thanks for the video man!
hope the video helps you out, thanks for commenting Ben
