Thermocline (metalimnion) - is a thin but distinct layer in a large body of water in which temperature changes more rapidly with depth than it does in the layers above or below. In this video I demonstrate how the temperature of the water at the surface (epilimnion) was significantly colder than the temperature of the water at the bottom (hypolimnion). The reason why this happens is because water is one of the rare substances that floats when in its solid form (ice). So, as the water reaches a freezing point, it becomes less dense as it starts to form a crystalline structure and actually rises to the surface, while the warmer water remains at the bottom. However, during the summer, the colder water is found at the bottom while the warmer water is found at the surface. As you're probably aware, hot air rises and cold air sinks, the same can be applied to water when in a completely liquid state. During the spring and fall, "turnovers" occur where the layers in the water become uniform in temperature for a period of time.

You should definitely invest in a 7'-9' L-UL spin get rod with your choice of reel for crappie fishing, dedicating a very long light setup will allow you to throw very tiny and light jigs where the crappie like them

I have three questions if you don't mind answering...
    1) How do you use that deeper finder from the shore? If it's easy I would definitely love to try it out haha.
    2) Are Crappie popular in colder weather?
    3) Were you just letting that minnow sink and then jigging?
Anyways please respond haha i'm really curious i've been hoping to get these questions answered!

Hi I just recently subscribed to your channel... good stuff. I too have a deeper but have been to afraid to cast it on my rod. What are you using to cast it? Rod strength and line? I think I heard you say 10 pound braid? My only setup is a med fast St. Croix rod with 12 pound braid. I was thinking about picking up a second rod just for cast that.. What do you think?

hey Mike if you have time try at loch raven, under the dulaney valley bridge. lots of people fish off the bridge in the winter for crappie, pickerel and occasional bass. if you come from 695 cross the bridge and u will see where people park, then I like to go under the bridge instead of fish off it. take your deeper, the water is like 60 feet. another good place is liberty res. off the Nicodemus road bridge. great crappie, yellow perch and monster white perch.

Best way to fish for crappie is in a boat, using a 10/11 foot long pole with a crappie jig going from tree to tree or pylon to pylon jigging around till you find out what depth they are hitting in.

haha I had the opportunity to fish bass in Louisiana but I fly fished them using a TFO 8wt Fly rod with floating line using pike/muskie flies haha Being a fly guide in Montana and fishing Trout, N Pikes, Salmon it was a whole new ball game for me. my personal best for trout was a 12 lbs rainbow trout and it had taken me close to a hour and a half to land it cause I was using a size 16 scud hook haha and thats pretty dam small for a fish that big.

+Andrew Yang April is a prespawn time for where i live. I tend to have the best luck fishing around wood cover on or around deeper water.

Wow pretty cool use of the deeper. I've been thinking about getting one. Great job on locating them!! I got my first good crappie action in twin cities MN in February. Pretty crazy to see them caught in January.

Crappie travel in big schools so when you catch one cast right back to where you caught the one and more will be there

Congrats on 100k subscribers! I love your videos and I've learned soooo much more about fishing because of you! I don't just go to the gas station and buy night crawlers and toss it out into the lake, I've learned about Texas rigging, crankbaits, jerk baits etc so thank you keep up the good work!!!
