- Recently, Croatian electric hypercar company Rimac needed to test its £2million, 1,888bhp EV hypercar… in the Arctic Circle. That’s when they gave us a call to see if we fancied getting behind the wheel of the mighty Nevera in the name of science and tricky insurance phone calls. It was fascinating. And led to some quite remarkable donuts. But we’ll let Top Gear Magazine’s Tom Ford explain as part of TopGear.com’s Electric Awards 2021, sponsored by Hankook.

The fact that you can drive it as full RWD or FWD etc when you feel like it, the HUD guidance to make you better on track. And much more is insane
This is the most revolutionary car ever made in the modern era. Yes Tesla started this segment, but Rimac is on another level

He has a point; this isn’t a car you can compare. It is a new breed, this hyper intelligent electric beast that is only limited by the charging demands
Which hasn't been a concern for many years now. You can drive an EV literally anywhere and most EVs have the same range as the average ICE. There are EVs out now that charge 0-80% in 18min with the 350kW charge rates, and it will only cost you $8 (though most new EVs come with 1-2 years free charging!)
The fact that almost everything was produced in house makes this extra impressive, especially since it's got a lot of the little things nailed as well

mate sometimes explained why do they make everything: because for ex: front light-they asked manufacturers to make it for them, they asked a bunch of money to make it, what would kill project if they have to pay for every non important too much, so they decided to make it by them self
Watching it feels like watching a game trailer with sound off. It's so quite that we start to expect a sound when it accelerating that just a missing thing. But I should say Nevera is my favorite electric car with no doubt.

@@rhyswilliams4893 what do you mean? Im not talking about driver aids. Im talking about gears, noise and vibration. Things that connect and involve the driver to the experience. Driver aids can be done in a way that makes the car fun but without over interference.

@top gear, for regen, during deceleration, I don't think the motor spins in the opposite direction. It just turns it briefly into an alternator and the wheels become the engine turning the alternator (like in a generator)😊

The torque is applied to different direction than the rotation. Alternator it is not but a generator yes.

@@SoulOne713 It's a gimmick built by carving massive holes in the earth and sending the material, by inefficient ship to another country to be processed. Then, loaded onto another ship to be sent elsewhere for more processing. Then, shipped elsewhere for installation. Then, shipped to where it'll be sold. Finally, it'll be bought by someone who's "saving the planet".
All battery powered cars are the same. Hydrogen is a much easier way to get off fossil fuels, even though we've got enough to last 5 centuries.
If we can't replace biodegraded dinosaurs by then, we deserve a massive asteroid strike.

@@Wache3 "it reminds me too much to ferrari" Nope the problem is Ferraris are based on Pininfarina's Designs. Now that Ferrari is doing mostly inhouse work, it's volatile Hit or Miss with a different design language. I like that it looks like a "Ferrari" to remind us who designed those Ferraris.
@@Neojhun It is not a problem, as you stated. Yes, I'm aware that Pininfarina designed a lots of Ferraris. And because of that, new Pininfarina IS reminding me of Ferraries. And, although Ferraris are beautiful cars, they are not that rare and unique looking cars. As Rimac is. And, perhaps for that reason as well, I like the look of Rimac Nevera more. But it is always personal taste, and personal taste is something that is not worth debating, because nobody can win in such debate.

I couldn't think of a car which has less personality and character...No distinctive styling, too much horsepower. Taycan or Koenigsegg is winning here by miles. Wonder why our perception is so different.
@@MarcS152 i’d argue that this car is impressively distinctive for only being the 2nd generation. The side-intake graphic which was modeled after the tie of Croatian soldiers (i believe) is instantly recognizable as Rimac. The taycan absolutely has more character, but the Rimac is still a very emotional design. It’s not gimmicky and soulless like teslas are.
@@budja1501 You're right. For a company that's pretty new on the market it is impressive. But I don't think they could charge 2 million pounds for that. Rimac makes brilliant hardware, no doubt. There's a reason why so many companies buying the tech from rimac. But for me it's like Bosch building it's own car.

This is a demonstration of what's possible with electric cars and publicity for Mate's business. A few wealthy people will probably rarely drive it. Hoping a few take them to tracks. I believe this car has the potential to break every track record for production cars.

@@evolicious Exactly! And they just started. Robotaxi could be a HUGE deal. It has possibility to change entire public traffic, including busses, trucks, city deliveries. All on demand. Imagine. Ofc, under the condition that their system really works. We'll found out soon enough.
The main source of income for the Rimac company, and the reason Porshe invested in them is because the are licencing their IP to other EV manufacturers. The Nevera is just a showcase of their technology, the real product they want to sell is all the subsystems they developped to make it work. I'm excited to see what comes out of it.

@@evolicious Won't be a real competition but a friendly one, the Koenigsegg will mostly likely have Rimac parts in it. Rimac also machines the Torque Converter Transmission for Koenigsegg's pure ICE cars. The two companies are rightfully close partners.

@@tonynemcich1756 I for one know that Rimac doesn't build its batteries, nor does it build its tires. Shocks are Ohlins, machines for the carbon fiber are from a supplier. Rimac buys from suppliers, and engineers the supplied raw materials to their specifics. The wires for the car circuit, is it Rimac that manufactured those? Be reasonable. I know it sounds cool for him to say everything is produced in-house, but no company today can be in business without suppliers. lol
Tesla does giga-castings, 2170 cells, chip design, superchargers, software, powertrain (motors), audio, Powerwall, Powerpack, Megapack, Solar Roof, Solar panels, sales, servicing, Autobidder in-house. They own Grohmann Automation, ATW (German battery assembly maker), Deep Scale, SiLiON, Perbix Automation, Hibar Systems. The company is very vertically integrated, but of course they source batteries and chips from third-parties, and huge suppliers like AMD, Samsung, and CATL. So no, they don't make everything in-house, neither does Rimac.
