Thanks so much for this. I have 2 labs I’d like to bring to Scotland. If it takes a little more $$ to be able to be with them the whole time, totally worth it.
2 Notes: I actually know someone who snagged a last minute ticket for Cunard to move to Surrey with her 2 dogs from Colorado. She was very relieved she didn't need to ship them. Appears it all went well. They kennel them and you can visit them. I looked into it. Cats are allowed, BUT you have to actually pay for 2 kennels because unlike dogs, Cunard requires 1 separate kennel (adjoining) for the litterbox and 1 for the cat (plus your cat is going to be kenneled with a bunch of dogs). No pets are allowed in cabin (per my last check - if anyone knows differently...) 2nd: Looking into United Airlines and while they say they allow cats in cabin as long as the city you're going to isn't on the banned list, they wouldn't let me look at a ticket to Paris or Amsterdam if I had listed a cat. Not sure what that's about. I'm going to call and look into it. If anyone has any advice we'd be appreciative.
I used to work for AA and I think United was the same policy. Even though they legally could, they didn’t allow cabin pets on any transatlantic flights. I believe delta is the same. That’s why I made sure I booked a flight that was operated by KLM since they do allow cabin pets!
You really want to double-check with the airline directly because it can change! But last I looked, none of the US based carriers allowed cabin pets on transatlantic flights but many of the European ones do. I personally have brought cabin pets on transatlantic flights with KLM and Lufthansa. If you’re going to AMS then KLM would probably be your best bet!
Hi Peter. Thank you for this video! Again, I am so sorry for your loss of Gandalf. I was in tears 😢He was such a beautiful ginger! Secondly, This is a GREAT video. I took notes while watching and will be checking in with the GOV.UK website for updates. I am with you on the cats in cabin. There is no way I will be putting my cat in cargo. I've heard too many stories and also heard that your pet changes after that. I can only imagine the anxiety these pets go through! The Taylor swift joke was hilarious! 😂 It makes me wish I was best friend with Paris Hilton (I see her videos all the time with her pet on her plane in her hotel commercials..so envious! lol) It will just be me and my cat and probably 4 suitcases! lol I've learned some new things with this video like the timing of the trips, and vet time line info with your flight dates along with the vet stuff being valid in both or any country you are traveling thru and the microchip info!. In about a years time, I will be moving to North Scotland myself so Amsterdam would be my choice I plan to do this during the cooler months. I will be using KLM as well. I just pray there are none to not too many changes at the time of my move. I will look at it as an adventure and hopefully my cat will too ..not lol I have a question and have to add. My cat is heavy. and I am working on getting his weight down. We flew from NY to Chicago one way back in March 2022 Southwest Airlines ( I live in Chicago now) he weighed 20lbs then maybe even 20.6lbs lol and I also had a soft carryon case. they didn't weigh him they were looking mostly at the case and a long as it can fit under the seat. I paid 100 dollars for him to be onboard. My question is do you remember the airlines weighing your pets? for the in cabin flight? I know your cats were definitely under 20lbs each! lol but I am curious to know if they took weight seriously or just as long as the cat was able to be in the carrier comfortably and was able to go under the seat in front? Believe it or not my biggest fear for this future mow if not my Anxiety of flying for so long but more IF the airlines will deny him .That is my only worry. Thank you so much for this! I wish you all the best. ❤From Chicago! 😺
Good luck with your move! What part of Scotland are you heading to? As far as the weight is concerned, I don’t think any of the agents have ever actually weighed the cats. When we took them out of Manchester back to the US in 2018 they actually forgot to charge us the cabin pet fee because they were so confused and had never done a cabin pet before 😂 also, when we arrived in Newcastle in 2020 off the ferry they barely even looked at any of our paperwork; they just made sure that we had paperwork but didn’t really verify anything. With that being said, you should obviously make sure everything is fully in order in case you come across someone that does actually care and thoroughly checks everything.
@@peterkonradort ok thanks. I am looking into Aberdeen Aberdeenshire.. One of my company's offices is in Edinburgh but I don't have to reside there since Ill be working from home. I prefer as far up North as possible but since I do not drive (yet lol) public transportation or a town with the basic necessities is what I will need Places that I want to be is like Moray and Frasersburgh areas. If lower then, as low as Montrose and upwards closer to the coast line. If I must be in Edinburgh then it would be the outer areas like Leith and outside of it ,right above, like Kirkcaldy or St. Andrews. I just don't want to live south or west sides. I'm running away for the midges as far as possible lol There are so many beautiful towns in Scotland but I can always explore once I get there and settled in. About my when I relocated to Chicago, the airlines did the same. they never really looked at my cat until I had to remove him from his carrier. I was told I would need his paper work too its a requirement for the state of Chicago but they never asked me for it at all! I could have saved myself 100 dollars ! but I guess it was necessary just incase they randomly asked. They did check him and myself for narcotics lol they came out and wiped his paw and my hand with some special liquid on a napkin. It detects if my cat is carrying any drugs inside of him and I guess it would be on me since I am handling my cat. lol It was so weird and random. but it was protocol.
Thank you so much for posting this!!! So sorry for your loss of your kitty. ❤️🩹 They really are family. Question for you - for the Atlanta to Amsterdam to Newcastle journey - can you verify the name of the paperwork needed? And that you were able to get it all while here in the US? I believe you said get paperwork as if we were going directly to both countries but just want to verify. Working through this in the next few days with our vet. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you! I think the name of the document has changed a couple times so your best bet is to look up on the government website to make sure. Also, ask your vet if they’ve done this before! If they have experience with it they should be able to tell you exactly what you need, but the gist of it is that the paperwork has to be valid and have all the information that both countries need.
@ gotcha! Did you need any paperwork that was official from the Netherlands to the UK? Or documents for the USA to the Netherlands plus US to the UK was enough to cover the bases? If that makes sense haha. Thank you!!!
Thanks for this video. If you fly with cats in the cabin, did you have to take them out of their carriers for TSA and customs? I'm super concerned ours would be really squirrelly if we got them out at all in a busy place like that.
Thank you for sharing Van Gogh with us

@@peterkonradort Awesome, thank you! We're considering all the options. :)
Great info mate - not clear on one thing - is there any airline that allows cats in cabin on transatlantic routes e.g. SFO to AMS?

Hi Pete, hope life is good. 👍
Hiya! It has its ups and downs but I’m glad to actually put out a video again after so long 😂 I hope all is well for you!
I have cats too
