This was the most clear tutorial working up to the 180 pivots that I've found. I've been able to figure out other transitions myself but have been having a lot of trouble with this one. Thanks!
Found your tutorial on pivots. I find it so challenging. Having found your tutorial, I love the way you explained the procedures after the crab walk, which I was lifting my wheels to HIGH. I will try and keep my wheels on the floor and shift my weight! 👍🏾
It looks like this could be my way to learn the artistic/figure's 3-turn I want!! I'm still at what I think would be level Zero-B, crabwalk like you showed (zero-a) and both feet together and alike (both toes then both heels). Gotta get confident to try on one foot only, but standing still seems less dreary than rolling
Thank you for this! I spent all night working on pivots before I saw this and made 0 progress 😒. This definitely makes sense and gives me steps to progress with understanding 🙌. Can't wait to try it tonight! 🤞🤞🤞
Thank you so much. Came across this video on Facebook and had to come here to TH-cam to add to my playlist. I have been skating for more than several years and have been trying to brush up on some basics and came across your pivoting video. This video is the first to give a thorough and easily understood tutorial! I am looking forward to watching more!
Yes! It’s one of those things where I’ve been skating forever, I would consider myself an advanced-intermediate level with the potential to be better of course, but I’ve never had any formal introductions about the basics and/or the whys or how tos. I have always just skated and learned by just mimicking what I saw. BUT THIS is golden because you actually give great context! Looking forward in improving my craft! THANKS AGAIN!
@Andvilsk8s Zen Skate School I've been working on this the past couple of weeks, and I did my first 180 pivots last night!! Level 2 is officially in the works!! Thank you so much for this tutorial.
Tighter trucks will give you more stability when practicing, at the cost of being agile. I recommend tightening the trucks little-by-little until you find out what works for you. 😉
Like you said, pivoting from back to front can feel scary. That’s me. I have a hard time completing the 180. Any other tips besides practicing in socks to get that full 180 rotation going back to front?
I recommend turning your Head & Shoulders around first and always focusing where you are rolling to. The goal is to look at where you are about to turn first. That way you're not surprised by what is behind you.
Can you give a breakdown on your equipment? Is that the 3200? And looks like you have one different wheel on the inside heel? What is your favorite wheel on wood? Roll line plate?
I'll start putting together a video going over my setup in detail. For now, my wheels are Sure Grip Velvets & Fo-Mac Harmonies (the black and white inside wheels). My boot is the Riedell 3200. My plate is the Roll-Line Giotto.
Great tut, but I did 'notice closely' that you said during the pivot that all 4 wheels are in contact with the ground. Watching in slow motion, that is not the case.
I said the same thing when I was in the editing cave. If you have hard wheels, over 99a in hardness, and skate on a relatively smooth or wooden floor then all four wheels will slide on the ground. The overall idea I wanted people to get, is to use least amount of pressure to break traction with the ground in order to get the wheels to slide.
So this is a silly question as it looks pretty clear your skates are tied super loose/not tied. I've been experimenting with tying my skates only halfway up trying to find a comfortable feel. I love them to be loose. Do you skate like that normally? What are your thoughts on loose boots? Do you think at any point it's disadvantageous/dangerous? Ps great video btw!
My skate boot is so stiff and hugs my feet so well that I can roll around in them without having to tie them up all the way. The main reason I skate with my boots loose is to allow my feet some room to expand before lacing them up tight. I picked up the habit after seeing another skater do so and learning the reason why. You can lace up the boot similar to how Jam/Speed boots are laced up, with High-Top skates. Making only up to the top part of your foot tight and keeping the ankles a bit loose. Doing so gives more ankle mobility than if you were to lace all the way up.
Depending on the surface of the floor you are skating on and how grippy your wheels are, then you would have to do a slight hop to break the traction between the wheels and the floor. What kind of wheels are you using (brand & model) and what is durometer rating of them?
No. It is not okay! 😤 You walk using both feet, so you must skate using both feet. Learning on both sides will make you a much more well rounded skater. Also it is best to learn both sides sooner than later since you can just knock it out one time. 😎
The blue wheels are the Sure Grip Velvets (99a). I'm always going from outdoor to indoor and these wheels just work for the environments I frequent the most.
Indoors = Sure Grip Velvets or All American Plus Outdoors = Sure Grip Velvets or All American Plus I usually skate on smooth surfaces when outdoors, like tennis courts.
Please make more. Your tutorials are some of the best I have seen!! And I’m picky 😂🤣
Thank you so much! I do my best to keep them coming!!
Your breakdown structure is really good !
Im finally to level 2

Absolute cleanest, clearest tutorial on TH-cam. Makes total sense.

Finally someone with true technique and good camera work!!!!
Thank you! All thanks to my trusty tripod 😁😁😁

Yes you got the right idea. It always best to start slow and work your way up.
We need more videos!! I can do a decent amount on skates but never been good at pivots away from my free leg
Brought new hamsters to power my PC. More will be coming in the future!
This is this BEST explanation video I’ve seen. awesome content
Wow, thanks! That's great to hear. 😇

Dude this was the best video I've found on learning these (snaps/pivots /3turns) thanks so much!
"Remember to practice on both legs"
Meanwhile my left foot: well, now I'm not doing it
I'm scared shitless attempting pivots...I believe in me and I can do this!
I agree. At full speed pivoting can be risky. 😆
Remember you can always practice in your socks to build up your confidence 😉

Excellent tutorial💝💝
Thank you! 😇😇
These are the best tips to help me with my pivots. I've been trying to learn for some time. I followed level 1 then I was able to progress to level 3.
That's really great to hear!
Glad to know that you're making progress! 😇
Your tutorials are so good I would love to see a crazy legs tutorial
I'll have to add it to my list!
I guess I have to wait for the video to find out what "Crazy legs" means... LOL
This was amazingly thorough 🙏🏾 thank you

Thank you! This is super helpful
You're so welcome! I'm glad I was able to help.
Ty so much this helped❤
What skate setup do you have? Skate, plates and wheels
Great tutorial
Thank you!
You’re the man
Great tutorial!
I'm glad to be of help. :D
thank you so much!!!!
You're welcome!
Do you think tighter trucks are better for pivots
Tighter trucks will give you more stability when practicing, at the cost of being agile.
I recommend tightening the trucks little-by-little until you find out what works for you. 😉

Looks like snapping!
Snapping is another name for pivoting. I completely forgot to mention that in the video. Shame on me.
@@Andvilsk8s haha its all good! I just learned something new lol
Great tut, but I did 'notice closely' that you said during the pivot that all 4 wheels are in contact with the ground. Watching in slow motion, that is not the case.

What was the flare move you did @6:55 could you make a tutorial on it
Its called the Matrix. You're in luck cause I already made a tutorial on it! 😇😇😇
Can you do a tutorial on the sping you done at 1min 34 in this video?
Its on my list already. I got you fam.
🖤👍🏻
Great!

Damn those are some nice skates... 👍🏽
Thanks! The 3200 boot really holds up well.
Thanks for this tutorial! Are you in nyc? Curious what rink you were in 😃
I am! The rink I was at is United Skates of America
Hipsssss everyone hips are your best friend
How does the wheel hardness play into doing this?
What angle are your kingpins?
I have no idea. Roll-Line didn't specify on the Giottos.
What kind of skates are those?
I stopped skating for a few weeks because I couldn't get my pivots right.this tutorial was so broken down I have to get back on them
Glad to hear it! Now you've got a nice spring/summer goal 😁
👍🏾🙏🏾
is there like a lil hop to it cuz i can’t get my wheels to move when i keep all my weight on the foot
Depending on the surface of the floor you are skating on and how grippy your wheels are, then you would have to do a slight hop to break the traction between the wheels and the floor.

Are those 3200s?? They're gorgeous. 😍
Yes they are. Best skate boot I've used so far!
I have never practice my pivot on the other leg is that okay if I only know how to pivot on my left leg only?
No. It is not okay! 😤 You walk using both feet, so you must skate using both feet. Learning on both sides will make you a much more well rounded skater. Also it is best to learn both sides sooner than later since you can just knock it out one time. 😎
What type of wheels are the blue ones and how are you using those FoMacs outside?!!!!
The blue wheels are the Sure Grip Velvets (99a).
I'm always going from outdoor to indoor and these wheels just work for the environments I frequent the most.
Hey, what wheels do you use on your skates indoors? What are the hardness?
Indoors = Sure Grip Velvets or All American Plus
Outdoors = Sure Grip Velvets or All American Plus
I usually skate on smooth surfaces when outdoors, like tennis courts.
@@Andvilsk8s how lose are your trunks. Scale of 1 to 10. 1 being loose as hell 10 being stiff as hell
They're around an 8 right now.
My cushions a broken in so they need to be replaced.
I wanna learn the level 3 pivot, but I'm scared imma fall
As long as you look before you turn and take your time you'll be able to get them a lot sooner than you think.
Is it weird that I have more control over my rolling pivots than my standing pivots? 😅😭
Not at all! Some skate moves are "easy" can be harder to do.😖
*Looks at Side Surfing intensely* 😤
this Lincoln terrace?
Yes it is!
I foresee so many butt landings before I get this right.
Don't worry. I've done my share of butt landings as well. Hell I still do! LOL
Your not doing it with style and relaxation, your too stiff
Thanks for this great instruction 🫶🏼
