Think it's a fairly good idea, but the hook point insertion will definitely cause the foam to deteriorate quickly. I like the silicone tubing idea a lot more. Works good on bare and ball weight hooks, but hard to tie in neatly on lead bodied hooks.
Fantastic hack. I, too, have more than a lifetime supply of that material from Hobby Lobby. It is remarkable stuff and so much of it. I tend to use barbless hooks primarily which complicates the securing of the hook in the foam. If I come up with something that works, I’ll let you know.
I wonder if you smeared a thin layer of clear silicon on them, it would make them more durable? Probably other fishing hacks for that material too. Great idea. Thanks 👍🏼
Have you try reusing torn plastic baits as weed guards but cutting them into the shape you want? Maybe make a mold with wood and pouring the melted plastic if you really want to get fancy.
If you cut a long 1/2" strip then just cut at an angle from the corner then cut across you get 2 long triangles with no waste. I bought some 2mm EVA but I'm going to use them as trailers by cutting different shaped tails into the ends so they flutter in the water under a popping cork.
I bet you could add a dot of super glue where the hook contacts the foam to make it last a little longer. You could also add scent to the foam for more attraction.
lol! Hopefully, this week. March is a tough time inshore here. We are back out mostly doing recon to see what changed over the winter. But, you never know!
Oh heck yeah, I'll definitely be trying this one out For Sure!

Good point!
That is a pretty cool idea
I use 40lb. Fishing line , just my though. Happy fishing👍
Answered my questions!!!!!

More hacks! Good!
I will definitely try it and let you know the results!
Thanks again
Please do!
Great Idea!
That's a Great tip!!
Glad it was helpful!
thanks again for another great tip. question, do you find this hack effects the bait presentation and bite rate?
I do not think it has much impact. But you make a good point. I need to try this in a pool where I can see what happens better.

Good one, steve.

I have made trailers out of used gulp - your idea is a good one! Thanks!
Imagine if you used some old Z--man plastics. It might help the hooks stay up so you can better cross-eye hooksets. :)
I received my material this morning. I’ll be fishing with it soon. It does appear seedless … I’m anxious to see if the fish will be caught.

Yeah, like a chatter jig
Nice

If you laminated two layers it would make it a lot tougher? Maybe cut it thinner to avoid buoyancy?
I also bought 3mm thick EVA foam and it is just too thick to work well.
Any luck trying it with fish? looks like a nice idea

I got a good laugh out of that one!
Try sliding the EVA passed the eye and see if it makes the eye weedless too...Ya think?
Easy to work that on a hook. Great idea!
Does this affect the buoyancy of the lure?
Since I am not using top water or mid column, I have have not been able to check that
Nice! I think if you could make a die cutter you could make those by the thousands.
