- A long term review of the Dutchware Spider/Poly webbing for hammock suspension. These straps have over 200 nights on with a cinch buckle system without any signs of wear and tear and I can attest to their durability. They do tend to take a while to dry out but last a lot longer than standard polyester webbing.

I hiked the AT with the Spider-Poly strap with no problems. I never had the occasion to soak the straps in a bucket because I didn't bring a bucket on my hike. So I can't comment about drying my straps after a soaking. In the rain the Spider-Poly barely absorbed water and didn't present an issue of being wet.
I love my 500 lb test 16’ ratchet straps from orange for $3.14. 😊 Been using these for 10 yrs.
You've helped me so much! I use Dutchware 15' spider web 1.5 straps with toggles and marlin spike. The pair, each with a Jeff Myers evo loop weighs 51g. Two titanium toggles also weighing 8g. So 59g I think is great and it works great too.
I have been also using the same Spider/Poly webbing since 2017 with no problems.
I use my spider poly straps and love them. By the way, I get a laugh out of your bloopers at the end. See ya on the trail!
I'm currently using the Dutchware 1.5 Spider web straps with a becket hitch directly to the continuous loop on my hammock. I've done so many hardware setups and just prefer the simplicity of a single strap around the tree and a quick knot.
Do you have any tips for undoing the knot with this set up? I love the idea, but in the morning when I tear down the becket hitch is so locked in that it can sometimes take like 15 minutes just to loosen the knot enough for it to pull through.

I bought those as my tree huggers with the whoopie slings. Well I gave up on the whoopie's a few years ago because the distance between trees is a big issue. I just went with the nylon and use a becket hitch now. So easy and light.
Myerstech becket hitch webbing with Universal and evo loops for ultralight setup. Second is superior gear buckle suspension are the ways to go
Currently using MyersTech Evo Loops with a Lapp Knot and poly webbing… only about a dozen or so hangs, but no signs of fraying yet.
I’ve also a set of the MyersTech hybrid poly/dyneema straps anxiously awaiting for my Superior Hammock to arrive. 😊

I've been using the Dynaweave becket straps with FishHook add-on from Warbonnet for over a year now and they have been great. I've see little to no wear on them. They do absorb water but i think they dry out fairly quickly. One strap w/ FishHook weighs only 1.2 ounces.
1.9 gpf Kevlar straps with Evo loops using a variation of the Becket. Changed out the continuous loop with one with a extra loop for releasing the knot. My wife and I have used these is all types of conditions with not problems. The adjustment does take longer, but the weight savings on two setups is worth it to us. A set of 12' straps weigh 1.7 oz.
I use the beetle buckles in my spider webbing to hang. Easy to adjust and light weight.
Used cinch buckles for years or actually I guess Beetle Buckles. Went to a Becket Hitch last year and love it. Jeff has a Becket loop which makes untying the knot simple. I normally don't even like knots, but it is so simple. I didn't like how the amsteel was starting to look on my continuous loops after using them with buckles for a bit.
Superior hammock cinch buckle I have a pair and these are in my opinion the best all around including winter I do have the dutchware beetle buckles which are good and I use carabiners at the end I don't use it a little thing that you showed they ripped things up too quick and too fast but I found that the Dutch wear beetle buckles are excellent with the continuous loop but it becomes a pain in the rear end to try to tighten or loosen the hammock with any kind of weight such as my down under quilt the overquilt and a few other odds and ends that's used inside the hammock now on the other hand with the superior cinch buckles it is absolutely freaking easy to adjust including in the depth of winter where it can be up to -30 below zero or more and you can still adjust the buckles extremely fast efficient and easily and they do not move after adjustments
Hey Frozen, I have used the 12' Dutchware Spider/Poly & beetle buckles for a few years with great results as well. I may look at the evo loop for the hammock straps also. I currently use the similar soft shackles for my tarp setup. 👍

Mine ripped and got a hole in them from the Dutch clips. I ordered new ones and switched to Soft shakels from Autumm ultralight. And love that set up..
Dutch even said sometimes you may get a sharp hardware.

Myerstech Evo loops are the best!
As an Architect, I've experienced earning 'green' credits for using sustainable wall materials, but ironically a building receives no credits for not designing that interior wall at all. Applying the same, instead of buying a lighter material, look at less material. I've reduced to the 8' spider-poly webbing (instead of 12' or 15' lengths) without regrets. Sewn in half dutch clip and beatle buckle. Use less, not lighter.

I went away from those exact straps with beetle buckles and went to Myerstech straps and soft shackle with a Beckett hitch. It's actually easier to use and half the weight. I've had the point on the beetle buckle puncture my tarp one time, but this can't happen with a no hardware setup.
I love the dutchware poly webbing and a lot of the places I go onto here in Florida require you to use the wide webbing.
That's a shame. I assume you mean the 1.5 to 2" webbing?

Dutch clips are okay; but I’ve lost three of them in the leaves over the years. They’re titanium so you won’t find them with a metal detector. After buying my third pair I suggested they offer an orange powder coated version.
You can use orange spray paint

You can also get the dutch clips sewed on, can't fall off
I used the whoopie slings for the weight and space savings but switched to the beetle buckle spider/poly for the simplicity. Saves Soo much more time since I'm usually setting up mine and my son's hammock. Would be interesting if you found a better system.

The only thing I really like about these straps is the looks. I lost two straps now, one brand spanking new. I used the dutchware clip like you do and I used the dutchware cinch buckels. Even though I made sure the buckels were straight. Two times now the buckels slipped and badly frayed the straps. Their cheap enough, but I don't like it failing on me while on a trip. I now have eliminated any hardware from my system and have no trouble with my straps.
Were the dream hammock buckles by chance?
I've been using my Dutch Poly Webbing for years and they still almost look like new. I have them on my Dream Hammock and Dutch's Half-Wit hammock.
Love my dutchware stuff!!! I used to tie up a Hennessey hammock, got tired of that.... I shoulda switched to beetle buckle and Dutch clip a long time ago
I'd be very interested in your opinion on whoopie slings, maybe a video? I'm ready to replace my polyester straps after 6 years and considered whoopies. My wife uses the spider straps and we both love them.

Hey why don’t you try out my Dyneema spyder straps with cinch buckles from Dutch. I just used them once. They are crazy lightweight.
Courious , have you tried the ring system? It's basically 2 rings on each end of your hammock.

Great content. Just started hanging. Still trying to get everything dialed in. I have been going to the parks and my house trying to get the hang of the set up. Was just wondering if anyone has any advice and can tell me with a 12' chomelon how far I should space 2 4 × 4's apart for a good hang using poly straps and beetle buckles? Any help would be appreciated.

I have not but they look like Dutch sliders which I have used in the past.
I don't have a recommendation for your entire suspension system, but have you tried out the Myerstech Universal loops to replace your Evo loops for your soft shakles as well as an alternative to the Amsteel continuous loops for your hammock yet?

id love to offer up a different way but i use the same suspension set up and in my opinion if it aint broke dont fix it

No with Beatle Buckles. I don't like them to be completely honest.
How long your straps are? I have 15ft straps that came with my chameleon and I have been thinking that I should maybe make them bit shorter before my next years AT thru-hike.

I started out with spyder straps, Dutchware Beetle Buckles and Dutch Clips. I found the Beetle Buckles were just too damn hard to adjust so I replaced them with Superior Gear cinch buckles which are so much easier. Also, on your advice, I switched to Evo loops after finding some wear on my straps. I got mine from Anne Marie Akers at Autumn Ultralight Hammocks.
