  • Apply to jobs and internships can be a frustrating experience, and facing rejection after rejection can be devastating - I can certainly attest because I was once in a situation where I was applying to internships non-stop and saw no end in sight. So in today's video, I wanted to share some of the tips that I've come across and some that I've personally used to help myself through the period of endless rejections and ultimately come away with a fruitful internship.

    Going into my junior year without any internships or degree related job. I’m gonna try to get a part time position at a bank during the year; and start applying to lots of internships. Thanks for the vid!

    Amazing video man - I am in my senior year, graduating with a Finance degree in May. I think you provided a great amount of information and I love the personal project idea for people that can't land an internship. I have been learning Python and SQL to make myself more attractive to employers. Looks like you have a nice PC too, what's your setup?

      Thanks! Currently using a Ryzen 7 5800X, RTX 3070, and 32gb of ram. Good luck on the rest of your senior year!

    This job market is so bad, at my school the finance majors even the ones with 4.0s can’t get internships, I don’t think it’s going to get better anytime soon either. I go to a non-target too so I’m even more screwed.

      I hear ya man, hang in there - the job market ebbs and flows but just keep applying and developing your own skills and knowledge base, that way when a rare opportunity comes your way, you’ll be more than ready. Good luck!

    I randomly ran across your videos. I don’t know where to start on thanking you!! I’m kind of at a cross roads on extending graduation until next fall because of the internship issue (I originally graduate spring 25). Any thoughts?

      I'm glad you found the videos helpful! Extending graduation could definitely be a smart move, especially since you get an additional recruiting cycle in but it really depends on your financial situation and if you need to start working right away.

    I start my Senior year next month and haven't landed anything yet. I got an idea of what I actually wanted to pursue with my Finance degree just last Fall, yet I feel it was too late. I've decided to learn new skills and resume build with certifications. I see close friends starting their 2-3 internship and potentially full-time positions while I'm struggling to get a response.

      Don’t give up man, you still got a year left. It’s never too late. Play with the cards you’re dealt and don’t pay any attention to anyone else. With enough persistence and effort you will get there eventually. Best of luck!

    About to enter senior year without an internship with no clear sight on a summer internship. Just wondering what other books do you recommend if I wanna get into investment banking/ finance in general? Also did you have to teach yourself how to use python?

    • @aaron_yao
      @aaron_yao  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Here's a few: Investment Banking by Rosenbaum and Pearl for IB, A Random Walk Down Wall Street by Malkiel for an overview of financial markets, The Black Swan by Taleb for a more academic/interesting take on risk.

      And yes, taught myself to code - still working on it everyday though!

      @@aaron_yao Thank you so much for the response! I’ll look into those books as soon as possibly! Do you have any book recommendations for risk management and possibly business/data analytics?

    hi there, for a career in risk such as yourself, wouldn't FRM be more useful than CFA?

    • @aaron_yao
      @aaron_yao  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure tbh - I don't personally know anyone that has taken the FRM but the CFA is, in general, more common and more versatile.

    (To note) Obviously 53% of graduates that are either unemployed or underemployed isn't telling the full story, some people do degrees with the intent to become underemployed, for example one might do physics and transition into a business role, this is beneficial if you want to do physics but don't want a career in physics due to needing a PHD for it to be financially viable.
    Good advice, Overall.
