      @@theonetrueking2685 Yes, she talks about this a lot at the beginning of her book. It's a great tactic.

      @@theonetrueking2685 Wow! Thank you for sharing your perspective. Action mapping is a great approach for customer service training (I saw you commented on that video as well). With good SMEs, you can draw out so many realistic scenarios for practice opportunities. Good knowledge management helps a ton w/ CSR-type roles, but information-dump courses probably don't help much.

    Thank you for this video, Devlin. It would be so helpful to see a video of doing a mock SME meeting. I know all meetings are different but a mock meeting going through the steps you've mentioned in this would be super beneficial!

      Thanks Cliona! That is definitely on my content list, so I will aim to get to this sooner rather than later 😃

    Staying on track is so important, pressure/inputs from many stakeholders may lead to distraction. Therefore, an ID has to use every means to remain focused so that the learners receive what they must. Thank you for your video, Devlin 🎉

      Great point, Sneha. A big part of our role in these engagements is to help keep the SME on track. ID as Project Manager! Thanks for watching and adding your perspective :)

    Could you clarify whether action mapping is practical for higher learning? Great videos Devlin!

      Good question, Theo. Action mapping works best when there's a measurable business goal to achieve, so it isn't really designed for higher education. If you're teaching a practical class though that prepares people for the real-world, I am sure that well-designed scenario-based questions (that borrow from action mapping) would be much appreciated by the students :D.

    This video came just in time before my next meeting. Thank you for sharing your experience with SME’s. This is definitely an area I want to get strong in.

    Love this! I have a question about SME's in general. When working with a client, whose responsibility is it to find a SME (or two) for the project? Is it up for the instructional designer to look for, select, and hire the SME or that is totally up to the client?

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Good question! That responsibility falls with the client. If they don’t have a SME available then it’s a red flag 😃

    This is great. It's not just about collecting requirements from others but exercising authority over your domain as an ID.

    Great video Devlin. Wish I’d had this information when I started out. Working with SMEs is hands down the most challenging (& potentially rewarding) aspect of learning design!
