I missed my own premier LOL! I had a call run late.
Makes me feel less idiotic for being late.
@@Thelaretus Haha same here
Are you trying to audition for Jeopardy host?
Unpopular opinion:The fact that Amazon’s Middle-Earth show is confirmed to be woke proves that the truth is simple: They can't create good stories, because good stories are mostly based on tradition and archetypes, that they deny and rebel against them, corrupting them and trying to erase the past and its values and tales.
Anyone agree?
When daniel said we were doing trivia about Peter Jackson's best movie I figured he meant the 2005 cinema classic "King Kong." Otherwise I would've been SO prepared.
I saw that movie twice in one day when it came out haha!
Or reading Lotr. That might have helped. Great meme though.
This is slander, clearly his best movie is “London’s on wheels and it’s going to eat you” the movie.
@ Jonathan Joestar
Mortal Engines?
Honest mistake
Let's do a Dune one. I shall be redeemed!
And let's get Brando Sando on the crush you at it, HAHAHAHAHA!
A "three body problem" one would be maaad!! I know it won't happen, but it's nice to dream 😝
That’s not even a competition, it’s a slaughter.
@@peterwolfnibaircs2791 I can tell you with 100% certainty that will not happen on Daniel Greene's channel
It seems very fitting that RF Kuang would take out all the most valuable questions to destroy her opponents' chances of winning.
Rebecca knowing almost everything but then missing out on the meme lmao.
And still getting it right 😂
Daniel: I am a strict host
Also Daniel: I will also take Little Stoner Dudes
Agreed
Sweet!! This was a lot of fun!!
Can't wait to see R. Kuang in another video! She's the type of person I aspire to be :)
We all do.
*sigh and swoon* 😍😍😍
Daniel just casually playing LOTR jeopardy with an award winning author.
I didnt think I was that much of a LOTR nerd, but jesus I know almost all of these.
Legit yea, i think the only ones i didnt know were Morgoth's cat and the Sam quote (im fairly certain that quote isnt in the movies, book only)
This is exactly how I felt. I went "oh... bro how?"
I did remember reading about morgoth’s cat in a Quora post, but didn’t remember the name. Other than that I just missed Tom bombadils wife’s name. He’s cut out of the abridged and dramatized version of the books that I listen to on repeat lol.
@@fredtrunce5931 I missed her name and the cat, but that's about it.
Seeing Quinn here was unexpected, but at the same time a pleasant surprise. He’s gonna have his graphic novel released next year, so a shoutout to him!
I was going to get to the Poppy War soon, but knowing she's a huge Tolkien nerd too I feel like I have to read it next.
saaame
This was awesome! Would love love love to see some Wheel of Time jeopardy in the future!
I'm with Rebecca on "Durin's Bane" answer - wasn't Gothmog, from the first age the only named Balrog?
Yeah Durins Bane is more a "nickname" given to him by the Dwarves.
Durin’s Bane is just one name given that particular Balrog. Most of the Maiar have multiple names and most of those were given to them by non-Ainur.
Even Gothmog as other names (Kalimbo, Kosomot and Kosmoko; with the first of these meaning “savage, barbarian, monster” in Qenya and the last two of both meaning “war-hate” in Qenya).
The word “gaffer” is a contraction of “godfather” with its vowels influenced by the word “grandfather”. It’s generally used outside of Britain to mean “old man”. The informal British usage roughly refers to the leader of a team, a boss, foreman or coach. The word can also refer to a sailor or (in coastal maritime regions) a baby who resides in a house. The feminine version of the word is “gammer” which roughly means “old woman”.
It’s also important to note that the word “gaffer” in English also independently refers to the head lighting tech on a movie set or a glassblower. These meanings of the word “gaffer” are etymologically derived from the word “gaff” meaning “hook” or “to hook” (it can be either a noun or a verb) and the ‘-er’ suffix which is added to a verb to make it into a noun denoting a person or thing which performs that action.
Rebecca looked thoroughly disappointed in her competition.
I mean, can you blame her? 👀
The word “hithlain” means “mist thread” in Sindarin. We unfortunately don’t know what exactly it is based on the text of the The Lord of the Rings as Haldir tells Sam he doesn’t have time to explain how it’s made and what it’s made of.
An early draft though, which is now collected in the seventh volume of the History of Middle Earth entitled The Treason of Isengard, states that Hithlain is made of fibers from the bark of the mallorn tree. This may or may not have been the final intention of Tolkien as he discarded this statement before the final published draft.
Classic Elf move: "You'll be 80 by the time I explain it and dead before I can teach you."
Torech Ungol and Cirith Ungol are different. Cirith Ungol is the entire pass into Mordor, while Torech Ungol is specifically Shelob's Lair within Cirith Ungol.
Also if we're being very specific, the 'Dwarven home' that was called a mine would be Khazad-dûm rather than Moria, since it was only called Moria after it had ceased to be their home.
Also Harad is almost certainly larger than Rhovanion going by Tolkien's Ambarkanta Map V published in The Shaping of Middle-earth, though that's also going off of regions known to us as readers. Harad is really just a general term for the land south of Gondor, and is probably split up into smaller regions we don't know about (just as 'the Westlands' refers to all of western Middle-earth and Rhûn to the East).
The fact that there exists a video series were Nux Taku and Rebecca Kuang are both participants is insane
While Gwaihir is the greatest (fastest and strongest) eagle in the third age, the only ever official king of the eagles was thorondor
I think in the Hobbit he's called the king of eagles
@@satana8157 I looked into it and I think Gwaihir was called "lord of the eagles" at some point, and thorondor was called "king of the eagles". So very similar but the slight difference in use of language may have been purposely used to denote rank. ie gwaihir was lord in the third age, but thorondor was KING of all eagles and birds for all ages. But I could also be totally wrong, I dont know what connotation, if any, tolkien was actually trying to convey, obviously.
@@fastbirb27 Good point. I read a translation of the books so it's easier to miss this small differences.
It's official. Jake is the comedian on deck
This was absolutely great to watch. More please!!!
It'd be amazing just to see Colbert ok this kinda thing atleast once 😂😂
Old gaffer = corruption of "grandfather". There's a mention somewhere of "gaffers and gammers", as well. (Thus, Sam's "Gaffer" was not actually *his* gaffer; it's just that "the Gaffer" was his dad.)
Cirith Ungol was the pass through the mountains near Shelob's Lair. I didn't even know Shelob's Lair had a name other than Shelob's Lair.
Everything has very specific names & sometimes tons of nicknames lol Tolkien loved to name things, even if it was just a hole in the ground lol
Daniel we 100 percent need a first law jeopardy
This was pretty cool. You should do Stormlight next
"You should never step between a Nazgul and his lunch - they're very hungry."
*cuts to Burger King commercial*
Cosmere Jeopardy would be brutal!
I'm assuming this just didn't get enough views but I hope you make more of these it was a lot of fun to watch.
This was so cool, well done Mr Goblin and everyone
I love how comfortable Daniel is at ribbing jake and he takes it well - that’s some pretty wholesome content right there
Hey I got most of those :)
Well played Rebecca!!
Good effort Jake
I'm here from the manga side of things so it's really fun seeing how your normal fans must feel watching the one piece videos lol
I wanna see Discworld Jeopardy.
You're not alone
Speaking off the top of my head here, but didn't Aragorn also have a brooch given to him by Galadriel? That used to belong to Galadriel's daughter, Celebrian?? Also that question about the evil cat was SO hard, as I think the only place it's mentioned is in Book of Lost Tales pt. 2. And Tolkien really hated cats. I think the only two times he mentions them in his works that I know of depict them as evil. He liked dogs though, what with Huan.
Question 18 was a weird question, but I enjoyed this.
The Book of Lost Tales is criminally under read. And so is The Lord of the Rings from the sound of it. Haha.
I'd love to do this as a participant for The Night Angel Series, or anything from Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman. Almost on book 5 of the Lightbringer, or I'd do the same there.
I think I've watched first 10 seconds of this like thousand times. Rebecca's reaction to Jake's words is so priceless and gleeful.
I played along with you guys, it was fun!
This was great
Do more!
Can you do more of these? It was fun to follow along myself with the quiz and see how many I knew.
Love this. Would love more jeopardy nerdom.
This one was just awesome 🙂🙂
Man Carrying Thing going, "that was 100 it was so hard" at the very beginning was a mood.
I didnt know this was poppy war's author until you said it 🤣 such a nice person
Good thing Tim (HelloFutureMe) is in a different time zone, I feel like he'd have given Rebecca a run for her money. Plus he's mad competitive, would have been fun
A lot of these questions I knew from playing the Lord of the Rings card game.
Also on the white tree question my mind jumped to nimloth as a symbol of Númenor
Damn you guys. I got all the quotes right but like none of the other hard ones lol
How do you get Rebecca Kuang to just casually join a Lotr Jeopardy video???
She has a new book coming out. She wants to promote it. So you tell her sure, I'll do a bit about your book but you have to come play jeopardy with me.
PS. Her new book is getting massively positive reviews. Going to check it out myself.
Ok now we desperately need one for the Wheel of Time
We need a Dresden files version of this
ASOIAF jeopardy would be great.
11:55 - It's actually Udun. A deep enclosed deepness before the entrance to Mordor
Udûn is the Sindarin name for Melkor’s first fortress Utumno. The word “udûn” in Sindarin does literally translate to “dark pit”, which makes Gandalf’s statement vague though.
@@ryancruz1876 It' also mean the spirit-energy of the Balrog.
@@yw1971 Where did you read that?
@@ryancruz1876 Gandalf's words to the Balrog
A Dresden Files version would be so much fun!
The ring is definetly adressed... In The Two Towers, Grima talks about it to Sauroman...
Dammmnnn I'm setting notifications on.
I’m a fan of all of them and I don’t know who to root for.
I loved this
Durin’s Bane is just one name given that particular Balrog. Most of the Maiar have multiple names and most of those were given to them by non-Ainur.
Even Gothmog has other names (Kalimbo, Kosomot and Kosmoko; with the first of these meaning “savage, barbarian, monster” in Qenya and the last two both meaning “war-hate” in Qenya).
wheel of time, dresden files, & malazan jeopardy's please!
Since you showed his face, it would be cool as hell and hilarious to have Stephen Colbert on something like this lol. Also please invite Jake and Quinn again to do this but with Dune or broader classic SF. 🙏 Also no fair giving the eagle question to R.F. Kuang when she didn't say Thorondor but not giving the answer to Quinn when he got it so close. 😔
Gimli would have never called it “the mines of Moria” Moria means “black pit” and at the time he thought his cousin Balin was ruling there. He would have called it Khazad Dum!
I can't give but just one like, but count it as a hundred, anyway. Amazing video, LotR and laughs, what else could I ask for?
Long life to you, mellon of mine.
i have no idea how much Tekking knows about Lord of the Rings but something tells me he would know the geography question
Obviously you gotta do Stormlight Jeopardy!
Lmao Jake just saying whatever.
Cool video
Man I hope we see Colbert on this in the future.
I haven't watched Jeopardy in some time now, but I'm pretty sure the answers need to be in a question form to count
Yes, you are right. Daniel should just call those a quiz if he's not going to follow the rules right.
@@MaxdenaroIt’s not that big of a deal. It’s still structured like Jeapordy so it’s the same thing minus answering in question from. Basically the exact same game with one little tweak. You two contrarians are the only ones who have a problem lol
Fun fact, was reading a copy of the silmarillion or the solo Turin book, and there was a line in Christopher’s notes saying telvido was originaly just Sauron chilling as a cat, but changed before the book was actually published
Not the Turin book, the beren and luthien one, my dumbass forgetting the timeline lol
Did this just disappear for half a year and return now 👀I'm not complaining I totally thought this was just gone forever
Nerdy smart, accomplished author, and amazingly beautiful; Rebecca is a real triple threat!
And don’t forget REMARKABLY well-spoken.
@@billyalarie929 A quadrupedal threat!
Gaffer is generally a of endearment for a boss or someone so with boss like status. My granddad (from Yorkshire, England) used to use it to describe me and him, ie. Big gaffer (him) and little gaffer (me) when we were doing a job. I don't know if this is just a term used in certain areas of the UK but it's also used in sports like cricket and rugby to describe coaches/managers. I've always assume Sam is using it to describe either his father/grandfather as a term of endearment but also respect.
I completely forgot Rebecca was the author of the Poppy War until Daniel mentioned it again
That was great
I just saw RFK in the thumbnail and clicked. I'm currently reading her Poppy War trilogy and it's great. Coming from someone who doesn't read a lot.
I honestly never finished the books exactly. I read most of it but skipped the majority of Sam and frodo's story .
You should reread them fully. I love them!
@@Shrek-ru5of I tried, I just found Sam and frodo boring and dry. And my fist book series was the wheel of time.
I think I could beat anyone at this game, I’m pretty confident in my lotr lore knowledge! I didn’t miss a single one lol Would be cool to play with other Tolkien junkies, I wonder if there’s a way we could set up an online version of this game open to anyone who wants to play. That would be super cool. I’ll have to look into such a thing to see how it could be done lol
next one should be eragon lore. movie and book because it would be so funny. maybe have maddie in it?
OH SNAP
wow Rebecca is so much younger than i expected, apparently she released Poppy War when she was only 21
I do enjoy seeing Jake fail dramatically over and over again, it’s cathartic
I didn't know Rebecca Kuang, but I guess I'm reading The Poppy War now.
Man carrying things has a Stephen king kind of chaos vibe
rebecca did better than i expected and jake did worse than i expected
I could have sworn you said "Rogue Onion," for the largest region of Middle Earth...which, come to think of it would be a great band name.
Hithlain was a strong fibre made from the inner bark of mallorn trees
Rebecca bossed that. I’m a $200 level player. Good theme bro. Stormlight one please. Peace
Never thought the day would come when I would compare Rebecca kuang to Tekking 101but here we are
Lmao
lol this wasn't even fair -- Rebecca came out swinging
Dune Jeopardy please! Even if it's just for the Kwisatz Haderach questions.
A face off between Quin and Brando Sando
I mean… I guess a lot of people have done it, but obviously WoT jeopardy
Is there a favored person to win or will this be a close match?
I reckon Quinn's Ideas has an edge but unless they brought in Tolkien Untangled I'd say it's close.
"I so clearly remember that scene where..." fails to remember the scene correctly 😂 No hate, it was just funny
R F KUANG??!?!?!?! HOW?????? WTF. I am shooketh.
HOW DID NO ONE KNOW THAT LAST ONE?!?!??!
The most precious thing in this video is rebecca
Haha. Why is Quinn even there . Classic.
In twentieth century British slang a gaffer is a boss, a foreman or head gardener or floor manager or such. Basically the boss immediately over the workers. You don’t hear it used so much these days.
