Nanai had just flown all the way to Vegas to participate in the biggest Evo in history and even placed in top 8 for the Idol Showdown tournament there. Such a shame to see him go, condolences to his friends and family.

It's nice of Korone to talk about it. I didn't know much about Nanai-san, but by being part of the FGC it really got me when he passed away. RIP Nanai-san, we'll remember the good times.
She's a sweetheart. Rest in power, Nanai. And to finish off in a warmer tone, her Ka-ZOO-no-Ko teammates Donpisha and Karubi all congratulated Korone later. Don-san showed up in the stream and gave her a red superchat, but Korone was confused if it was really him. It was. And Karubi asked to play some sets against Korone because now they are now in the same rank (Karubi has been training with Shuto these past few days) Go for diamond now, Koro-san! You can do it! Edit: I just saw it on twitter. Nanai's wife, Jango-san, also was following the stream and said: "Koro-san is a very serious and hardworking person, and I'm glad to see her growing and developing! I was so happy to see her progress at home. I think Nanai is really happy to see her continuing to work hard on SF6. Thank you very much."
I can relate, having someone I considered a mentor pass away somewhat recently. Its tough because while you"re not as close to them as friends or family, there's still a significant sense of loss. I really appreciate Korone talking about her feelings here
Seeing how she handled that talk really shows depth of character. The succinct way she talked about it, even though she didn't know if she should displays an understanding that comes with maturity. She'll always be the doggo with the seagull monkey laugh, but behind the goofy antics with the viewers, she's also a respectable and mature woman.
It was a shocker of a news. If I recall, Nanai mains Korone in Idol Showdown and he placed 7th in EVO2023 using Korone. Nanai will be proud and happy of Korone dedicating this stream to him. ❤❤
0:21 - this is actually a super interesting change from her performance at CR Cup that I just gotta explain: Back in CR Cup scrims against K4sen (th-cam.com/video/Kf_clGdZ9v0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rMFkeUS5jsS3x2B0 at 9:03), Korone was in this same situation; she lands Drive Impact, her opponent is in a crumple animation (meaning they are completely vulnerable), she has full Super meter. In scrims, she did Heavy Punch -> Medium Stribog -> Level 3 Super… and the Super missed. This was due to a slight technical error on Korone’s part. Firstly, she hesitated for just slightly too long after landing the Drive Impact to start her combo, so K4sen reached the point in the crumple animation where his character’s knees touch the ground. When a character reaches this point in the crumple animation, taking a hit will render them airborne, knocking them slightly further up and away than normal. As a result, her Heavy Punch knocked K4sen just slightly too far for Medium Stribog to land cleanly, so even though this combo would normally work, Korone whiffed. Light Stribog would’ve worked because it’s slightly faster, but Korone likely defaulted to the Medium version because it’s usually a reliable combo tool. Now, we see how Korone has adjusted. After landing the Drive Impact, she still hesitates just slightly, and her opponent once again reaches the point in the crumple animation where their knees touch the ground. However, her combo this time starts with Heavy Punch -> Heavy Stribog. This is huge, because it’s the opposite interaction as in scrims; this combo normally doesn’t work because Heavy Stribog is too slow, but since her Heavy Punch knocks the opponent airborne, it does work here. Unlike the Medium version, Heavy Stribog can land cleanly because its hitbox is slightly bigger. Furthermore, Heavy Stribog gives Korone a further combo extension that’s not possible with the Medium version, the two long-range attacks she executes immediately afterwards, and as she later realizes, she also could’ve ended with a Level 3 Super. What’s really impressive here isn’t the technical difficulty of this combo (although it is decently difficult since you have to pull off three special move inputs in quick succession), it’s the awareness. Korone’s hesitation after the Drive Impact is no longer attributable to confusion or panic, it’s highly intentional, selecting the best timing to use her best tools for the scenario. That’s higher-level play that truly demonstrates how her hard work has paid off, and I think that’s incredibly cool.
This was a great read, thanks for highlighting this. What’s clear to me is how super comfortable she is now comparatively to when she was training up for the cup, it’s been amazing to see her growth and expertise develop, very impressed and proud of this doggo.

I was wondering if she talked about it on stream, and I'm happy she did. That team shared a great bond, and it's a loss come far too soon. It's lucky they were all a part of each other's lives even for such a short time, training up and having fun, it really was special that Korone was his student at the time she was. I might be completely wrong here/hearing what I want to hear. But I swear, a while after mentioning that he passed away, I hear some sadness in her voice. But she's being very Korone about it, not wanting to let it show, because she wants to be a source of joy and hippieness to people. And doesn't want people getting sad because she is sad. Just, something in her voice? Also, as someone that grew up smack right in the "men don't cry/have emotions" hearing her say with that sweet soft voice of her that if your sad, you should let it out and howl. I'm keeping those words inside. 4:39
Geez. I thought this was just an incorrect application of the word "late". That's devastating to hear. I subbed him after they all played SF6 and even watched his EVO livestream a bit. RIP

RIP Nanai-san, you were taken far too soon m8 🙏
Nanai-sensei is watching for heaven and is proud!
It hurts hearing Koone talk about it… But I can’t seem to take her seriously with that listener-san gif playing at the back lol.
RIP Nanai-san.
Nanai was such a nice guy when he taught Korone, truly sad what happened there.
That sweet doggo is amazing on many levels
Thank you for translating this!
I had no idea that Nanai passed away. :(
RIP Nanai, welcome to the FGC Korone.
Wow, she looks like she's really been hitting the lab and studying. Very sad to hear Nanai passed away :(
I might be completely wrong here/hearing what I want to hear.

Nanai passed away!?!?!? Damn it. Why the good guys always had to go so early?
Fgc forever remember nanai-san ✊️
"since I was still friends with him on twitter" is a mistranslation. the kakugamers are the ones who were zutto his tomodachi, not Korone
Geez. I thought this was just an incorrect application of the word "late". That's devastating to hear. I subbed him after they all played SF6 and even watched his EVO livestream a bit. RIP
Same. I was prepared to try and describe the nuance of "Late [person]", assuming they were just late to the stream or something. feels bad, man.
Well done Korone.
