Highly recommend an 8ft if you go down that route Richard, your tractor would have no issues. There the best investment one could make especially on a dairy farm, even if it’s just for topping or premowing. We seen great regrowths vs a topper. Just be careful of your back window when folding up, i always fold the front cover up when lifting up ours. 👍
Pause the video at 3:23 and look at the routing of the rope. Its been changed to a different position when its on your tractor and isn't pulling in an upward direction anymore.
@@williamjsmith9877 totally agree, i used to have a pottinger mower with a similar design, i modified it by doing as you suggested, fitting a eyelet for the rope to go through, problem solved.
I am sure Harry would go for a front mower and rear butterfly mowers, mounted on a nice big 400hp Vatra with reverse-drive capability. Well, that’s my go-to mowing option in FS anyway....
Looks nice Richard.Thats essentially a Lely mower,Agco bought Lely.I really think you should go up a size to the 2.4 metre which is 7' 10" I use one at ease on my 85 hp tractor.
Drum mowers are a thing of the past disc mowers or conditioner mowers are the only way forward if u buy another drum mower it will just give u more bother
My take on the transport lock is that you need to find the release point on your spool lever. I think your going to far either way past the centre and putting pressure on the catch. Tension the release catch rope and operate the spool lever slowly, you might feel where the release point is? A little bit like a push out hook.
Nothing wrong with a bigger drum mower i personally dont like that flip up mower coz it doesnt go inside the back tyres and i dont like that wire system only something to get stuck if you are getting a disc mower i would go gear driven over belts brilliant video as always richard 👍👍👍
Interesting. Not a Lely More likely a Massey take on a Fella mower. To lock the discs whilst changing the blades simply wedge a piece of a 5x 3inch between the discs . Thats ho we do it here since disc mowers were introduced . Most new ones now have spring loaded knife holders which have a tool to release the knife .Essentially a cranked bar. Very quick
We in the late 90s used 3 drum mowers and in 2005 we changed to 1 disc mower wider I will add we were almost cutting the same amount of land with 1 tractoer which left 2 other tractor free with a tedder or take or whatever it may be. We could go quite a bit quicker and the crop went through so much better with a disc mower never go back. Harey is right some of the mowers store up right that's lot more money!!!
The new Holland t6080 that Harry was on about is actually a very good, compact sized tractor but it is 165hp so probably a bit big for you. We have one and couldn’t fault it
chord is caught, it needs to pull higher, unhitch it,, look at beginning of video, time code (4:15) he is showing how to pull the chord to raise and lower..
Think if you let the mower down and pull the rope when it is on the ground as it is in transport mode while the mower is off the ground may be wrong tho
Good sized mower for you sir.. looks the part on the back of the Nash... 😊 and bigger and you would need to think about a conditioner to... mind and sort that brake light bulb.... 😮😜.. stay safe 🏴
Looked at a mf last year but they are rebadged fella and made of cheese. Buy a claas or kuhn. I ended up with 10 foot kuhn as they had one in stock. My mf 5455 handles it fine and it's so much faster.
Hi grass crops have get heavier swàrds over year's with new verify of seeds ,the seizes of the more depend on hp of tractors you have you can have bigger bed more ,for less hpr ,as grass slide over bed fed to conditioners which save on trying time by one to two days in drying time.less runs with tedder ,saving on time and money .as every time it cost £7/10 acre to run your tractor, not including Labour, it should all down to cost and efficiency.its not all ways having to get bigger equipment ,but be more been more efficient is more time-cost savings
Looks a good mower I'll probably go next size up if you do it I know it's more money but in long term be cost affected BUT remember it sticks out side of tractor 😮
Good day Richard. I have no background in farming I was just wondering what do farming contractors do when they are not doing cutting and bailing and sewing? Is contacting a full-time job or do they do farming as well like there own farming mean. Also Harry’s a brilliant Farm manager, he’s knowledgeable beyond his years. Have a super weekend.
There are always jobs for contractors they do have some time of but there will always be fields that need either plowing cultivating or dairy farmers that need there slurry on manure on the field. So there normally always busy but when it's a quiet time of season for them there either checking up on there tractors:machinery. I hope I've answered that for you.😊😊
Good morning Richard and Harry, It look like you have given your new mower a run round yours and Harry’s head, Lol You should have more fun with this one well the best of luck with it, You take care and stay safe and well.🚜🚜👍⭐️🐖
Hi, i,d try wider with quick fit blades, a class 2 years ago was 8100 for a 10 foot and 8400 for a 12 foot, run the 12 foot on a similar tractor to yours and slide it away on pallet forks for winter,
I'm not sure if you have the hydraulic pipe in the right spool valve ..........you need to put it in the single acting valve so that the bed drops down under it's own weight........it sounds like the tractor is pumping when your pulling the cord to let it down. i've got a Lely mower which is the same design as yours. another advantage with the hydraulic lift disc mower is you can trim a bank at a bit of a angle where as the drum mowers just stay at one level all the time when raised up. but the disc mowers are better mowers and will last much longer but i would go for the 2.4 metre 6 disc mower as you say with harry coming along as your main tractor driver in the future you need to think ahead
I really dont like the fact that it just has a plastic cover and not steel. Think about a blade snapping, it would just fly through instead of bouncing off a steel cover.
Have just ordered the hell of a crop of grass t-shirt and I am dying for it to get here as my lawn has now germinated and you know what I am going to say ?.....I am going to have a hell of a crop of grass :D and it will all get chopped down for the Composter next week , Spring is the best time
i know what harries on about parked upright mc hale have one maybe the bigger ferguson mower has it disc is defo the one to get lower the three point hitch before releasing the mower
should be pretty reliable, think they are lely made after Agco bought them out , just mf branded, they do them as fendt as well i think,so its a proven design , looks a nice size for you, very similar to farmer p’s mower working wise with the folding bed ,wont take long to get used to it thats for sure
I would not recomend the drum mower any more cause if u get real heavy grass it doesnt do as nice of a job the disc mower leaves a better job trust me have had disc mowers for 23 years now
Nice mower, my lil field at work I got a cub cadet ride on🙈🙈 it's like the vaxhall conference looking up to the premier League 😂😂😂 What FS is Harry playing? I got 23 the other day🙌🏼🙌🏼 I'm just grinding it out on Canola untill I can get the money up😂😂
I run a 1995 pottinger Cat mower, direct driven so no belts, never had it blocked up? 🤔 and i only mow long stuff for horses.. but you shouldn't/can't drive as fast with a drum mower for shure. But with longer and a bit blown around grass, a drum mower seems to leave a nicer field behind as to my experiences
Very simple very fragile looking mower. Everything gets bigger. Less well made. More Hp to power it. More electronics and hydraulics. Costs way more. Lasts way less. More to go wrong. More expensive to fix. The only win is the job is done faster. Except when the thing doesn't work. And the parts are on a slow boat from China. But the red looks pretty.

The rope goes over the top of the hydraulic ram, this gives it the right angle to pull the linkage up out of lock.
Still a very crude idea, could have the rope going through an eye attached to the ram to get the right angle pull.
@@williamjsmith9877 totally agree, i used to have a pottinger mower with a similar design, i modified it by doing as you suggested, fitting a eyelet for the rope to go through, problem solved.
Harry is right, you need to stop putting everything down and thinking negative. Try being positive.

Would have thought the guy from Chandlers would have been aware of how to change blades
Maybe he more from 'Sales'
You can see his confidence leave him after that 😂
You don’t lock them you just undo it against the opposite way it turns
Get yourself a set of mirrored sun glasses, we'll be able to see harry dancing in the reflection.
That mower would go behind our David Brown 996 nicely🙂
A 995/6 definitely would drive it ,

Your McCormick would easily handle a 10ft mower Rich, loving the content as always 👍
Got to remember with the mower folded up its quite wide to transport especially if your gateways aren't that wide.
I think harry has allready signed the cheque for the mower

Richard we use a 8 ft disc conditioner mower on a 95 horsepower tractor its a mower that folds behind you travtor handle it perfect
We in the late 90s used 3 drum mowers and in 2005 we changed to 1 disc mower wider I will add we were almost cutting the same amount of land with 1 tractoer which left 2 other tractor free with a tedder or take or whatever it may be. The rope for the release goes over the top of the hydraulic fitting to rise the look up.
How would we cope without a piece of string , reminds me of the trailer ploughs at ploughing matches 😀
"I do in FS"
Haha
Love that kid
Harry is going to make a great farmer like his dad
The fabric cover is stronger than it looks Richard and unlike the metal it never rusts especially after you wash at the end of the mowing season !
It's pvc, the same as used in lorry curtain sides, extremely strong.
The new Holland t6080 that Harry was on about is actually a very good, compact sized tractor but it is 165hp so probably a bit big for you. We have one and couldn’t fault it
I don’t think you are negative. I think you are a realist. You share the good and the not so good as it happens.

Nice handy sized mower for a 100hp tractor. What would the price of that mower be?
Think if you let the mower down and pull the rope when it is on the ground as it is in transport mode while the mower is off the ground may be wrong tho
pull the string upwards as aposed to pulling forward.
Drum mower travels over the ground better less spoilage that's the only advantage over the disc mower .
What?
Drum mower's revolving saucer glide's over uneven ground better.
👀🙄🐾👍Harry the star try not to kill Harry's youth full enthusiasm and exuberance
Agreed. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and communication skills are over the top for his age. May he never lose these qualities.
The HP appear very low to me , what cc (cub in ) are the motors? not being familiar with tractors.

Ask farmer p his mower folds up like that
If you've spent money on large tractors you could easily go a few feet wider on the equipment. Seems pretty small on that tractor
Looked at a mf last year but they are rebadged fella and made of cheese.
Buy a claas or kuhn.
I ended up with 10 foot kuhn as they had one in stock. My mf 5455 handles it fine and it's so much faster.
Before we had an impact we used a block of wood jammed in between the discs to stop them turning.
